i own a valdai 44-2 and it does its job good being a 44-2. well built, very pastel colored, dreamy looking pictures with swirly bokeh and good center sharpness wide open. its flaws are also it strengts so i dont even mind if the KMZ version is the better one because if you really want a vintage lens with very good contrast and sharpness, there are better ones in the same price range. so i would not say avoid the valdai, if you want more contrast just correct it in post
The point is - you can't trust anyone, as quality control was always questionable and condition varies. So the only way is to try different lenses and see by yourself. I would likely trust a mint valdai lens, which is easier to find, than a well-used older lens. But then again, without trying, won't know for sure.

I have the Valdai 44-2 and love it -- it's clean and very sharp...once I learned how to use the focus rings!
Great video! I have the Valdai version and this was helpful.
I'm still not clear if you think Valdai is recommended or not recommended. I think you confused it several times.
