Simplicity Films 'twas only but a joke
Dat boi jcole is mostly as great as he is because we all or rather, the majority of people who have listened to him are usually bullied into liking him by stans. I'm a big fan of Cole but I also understand he's not this unstoppable Force like the world will have you think he has bars but he isn't for everyone not because their dumb or ignorant but because he's an acquired taste musically. Not everybody wanna be conscious with the headphones. Just like not everybody wanna listen to club bangers.
Estryus Flemming I'm just giving the general critique about his specific rap style. Kendrick can get on a pop track and and sound like Kendrick still. Damn was a great album yes but it wasn't really saying anything. Atleast Cole consistently tries to say Something Even if it's common knowledge the simple fact that he decided to use his platform to address it is eye opening in and of itself. Kendrick hasn't really tried to say much since tpabf so idk what you're going on about. Actually, all he's spoken out about or addressed recently was a white fan saying nigga on stage. 🤔. Moreover, Kendrick has on more than one occasion been accused of stealing his "consciousness" from Lupe fiasco so atleast the great value woke we get is something other than his new freezer or odd goosebump verses. 🤷
Estryus Flemming although I understand what you mean. I'd personally say cole hasn't peaked yet and can't necessarily say he has always been about something. He started off just like everyone else. Making bangers but with a severe bare every other line. Where as Kendrick or a Joey badass came out the gate with some shit of substance which is why most of their fans aren't so defensive or aggressive when it Comes to you liking their favorite artist. They don't have to only bring up recent works or reach for explanations on songs. Tbh Cole just recently got woke and now every fan wanna act like he always been our voice most of us just like him cause he's relatable and can carry a vibe and a bar or two. Make you think. Music is music, it dont matter how it sounds you either fw it or you dont. Especially with hip hop you cant really give any artist shit over one song or over an ablum. Music can have the least amount of effort and still sound good expecially now a days, personally ion like them trap beats but i dont got a problem with the artist i still fuck with them as long as i vibe with it.
Its seriosly as simple as either u like it or you dont, respect the music dont worship because these heads rapping are just people like us.

To your point around 3:17, the same thing happened to John Sebastian at a concert in 1978. He was playing and while it was the twilight years as far as his success was concerned, college students at the concert started booing him and making fun of his songs and one of these reviewers on Amazon--instead of talking about his albums that were being sold online--only talked about how they joined in on that mob mentality despite his amazing musicianship and didn't know why. Sebastian ended up leaving the show halfway through. So while a roundabout long-winded story, it is proof that mob mentality is dangerous.

However saying you have to be this totally woke intellectual being who has transcended the entire hip hop genre is both condescending and false. I can’t believe this is something that even has to be said. I can enjoy complex and thought provoking music about heavy topics like war, loss, human nature, etc. like Pink Floyd, lauryn hill, tool, Radiohead and classical masterpieces.......and still go 100% OFF when I hear knuck if you buck and none of those things determines how intelligent I am. Stop gatekeeping and looking down on others, stop treating these people like infallible gods who we all must WORSHIP without fail.
