Welcome aboard 😊👍 if you ever wanted to go down the rabbit hole on understanding how different irons will potentially work for your own swing we have some amazing features on the website www.askgolfnut.com 👍
The head design of the Pro S3 is very similar to the first set of irons bought in 1983 - Browning Premiere. Pictures of them can be found with a search. Golfers in the US are not familiar with Browning as a golf club maker - its main like is firearms. I got my set in the Philippines at the Clark AFB Golf Course during my first Foreign Service tour there were I played my first three years with a caddy on my bag which was quite helpful. I put the Browning blades aside in the 1990s when I went down the ‘game improvement’ rabbit hole, first with a cheap set of Nicklaus brand clubs from Costco then a set of nearly identical but 3x more expensive 2010 Cobra S9s. By then I had retired from the Foreign Service and taken a job a course as a starter/marshal which allowed me to play every day for free 😊 and as a result my swing had improved so out curiosity put a new set of grips on the 1983 Brownings and was pleasantly surprised how much better I could shape shots with them. I played with them for a couple years until the head of my 5i snapped at impact and wound up in a pond and I found a complete set of PING EYE2s in like new condition for $60 at a thrift. During the 2008-2014 period I also bought, re-grippe and played circa 1978 Wilson Reflex irons noteworthy as being the first thin face ‘slot’ design which some asshat at USGA banned because of the design, later admitting on his personal web site he did it on a ‘hunch’ not based on any actual testing. That was the set I used to re-groove my game using Hogan’s Five Lessons as gospel until I was able to figure how to accelerate the club head and compress ball as much as it can be with imprints the size of a quarter on the face irons. I played the with PING EYE2s from 2014 until 2022 when I switched a set of circa 2008 PING S57s I bought for $400 then in 2024 switched to a set of Mizuno T-Zoid Comp/EZ I found for $120. Historically club designs changed to graduated loft numbered sets starting in the late 1920s with Bobby Jones promoting Spaulding and Walter Hagen promoting Wilson. By the early 1930s steel shafted graduated loft numbered sets were the norm. On some older sets the PW was a number of 10 iron. The 56/12° sand wedge enter the game when the USGA and PGA banned the concave ‘Spoon’ club which had been used to scoop the ball out on a flying carpet of sand. Pro Gene Sarazen took a PW and melted lead onto it with blowtorch in his garage to create the high-bounce ‘snow plow’ design still used today. It was Karsten Solheim taking up golf in his 30s in the 1950 and noticing that his Bullseye putter was so toe heavy it twisted his hand open / and shut \ during the swing and his blade irons did the same which lead to the design changes since 1960 when the then revolutionary PING Anser putter and PING EYE irons were first sold. It wasn’t until 1982 the PING EYE2 replaced the original. Have both and they are not significantly different, just bigger faces on the EYE2s. The 1990s is when the marketing departments took over and its just been smoke and mirrors ever since. More distance became the marketing mantra which was done by turning a 50° PW which was standard in 1980s set along with 56/12° SW you learned to open and close to hit fades and draws, to 47° PW, then 45° PW then 43° PW which can now be hit 160 yards because they have the loft of a 1980s 7i. If you fall for marketing hype you are just paying the tab for the makers name on the shirt of their tour players not anything that will improve your skills any better than a set of circa 1980s irons will. Using blades to learn the game will show you the ugly truth about how much your swing technique sucks and motivate you to fix it and that’s when to try to higher MOI designs for comparison to see if they give you better situational control of the club face.
Got fitted for this today! It has the feel of 241 but forgiveness is much closer to 243! Also i think the lifespawn of this iron is 4 years so it will be brand new even after 3 years or maybe ever with that timeless desing😍 Thank you for making this video!
I absolutely love Mizuno, I love there take on clubs, I love the way they approach marketing there clubs, I love how low key they are about there launches, I love how they feel, look, shelf appeal, love to see reviews like yours because I can tell how much you enjoy the brand, keep up the great work, love my 243s but these look fantastic
Jay once again the top quality review anywhere on the planet. I believe that your data driven analysis as baseline for review could be easily adopted by manufacturers to actually fine tune their future designs. Well done.
@ sometimes it 20 years fore the world to see the light!!! I was an engineering student intern when I thought about using MIM technology to manufacture golf clubs heads. 20 years later Cobra showed up to market with that technology. ☺️
I agree that thing would look better in chrome, that's why I just got some used MP-37s as a second set to my 243s. I think it's fair to say Mizuno has swayed me.
Got to hit the S3 the other night at the sim. 7i on a KBS Tour Lite stiff shaft. Carry ~164 over and over again. Mishits were quite forgiving, considering. I was actually quite surprised by how little penalty there was on mishits. I think lovely is a good description of these wonderful irons. I wish you could have hit the 5 iron. That would be my only hesitation is what hitting the 4 and 5 irons would be like. Your breakdown at the end was excellent! I have never seen anyone review and classify clubs like this. Lastly, I about dropped my coffee when you said "if you need ultimate spray protection". That was funny.
It's healing, torn meniscus can take months to heal and that's as long as it doesn't get hurt again by pushing too hard too soon. It's just sods law for it to happen at this time of year 😐👍👍
I've recently returned to this wonderful game after a 15 year break. Dug my old MP60's out of the back of the garage and have been getting up to speed again with them. They are much better than me at the moment but I think they'll be staying in the bag and I'll just work on my swing/game and improve into the player they are designed for. It would be interesting to see a direct comparison between the modern S-3 & near 20 year old MP60 using all the tech you have available to you.
Thanks Jay. Great in depth review as always. I love how Mizuno continue to make irons like this when most other manufacturers don’t update their MB/CB for years. They’re not going to fly off the shelves but ……
Hey golfnut! I got the mizuno 923 tours and I love them so much. Been trying to convince myself that maybe I need more forgiveness but I compared my shot to the mizuno pros and even the p790 and my dispersion is still much better than those. This mizuno s3 looks amazing and also looks a bit more forgiving then my tours. Would you say the 923 tour and s3 are comparable or which would you choose? Thanks again for all you do!! :))
Remind me of my MP18sc, I loved them and sometimes wished had never changed to the 223s. Maybe the S3 is my calling!! Great video, thanks Jay, get well soon bud.
I wish I had the ball striking to play something like this, I recently picked up a used MP-69 6 iron just to practice with in my backyard simulator. Wow is it much less forgiving than the 245, it makes a great training aid just by practicing to hit the center more consistently. To be honest if I could hit the S3 I much prefer the looks of the 241, which is why I love my 245 so much, looks almost identical to the 241 but much more forgiving.
As far as sole, size and length comparison how are these in relation to the Pro 245’s? I’m planning on going to get fit in the near future and these look super clean. Now, to hit them good is a different story but I’m very interested in these.
thanks for all the top down views of the club face... guys do all these iron reviews and rarely ever let you look down on the iron like you would at the ball.... drives me crazy searching a vid for a quick look.... thanks.
Its not the best at the moment, had a knee injury that has stopped me from swinging for quite a while and only now getting back to swinging whilst trying to protect the knee 😬
@@AskGolfNut eat real clean and sleep well...really the only way to truly heal once you get to our age.... everything else is just band aids.... your build suggests your diet is pretty good, but as I have found, cheating on a clean diet when healing doesn;t help the healing.....an injury is a great chance to low carbs and just eliminate all simple sugars, even fruit.... watch the heal...... I'm constantly, or yearly it seems, ripping shat up.....what ever, it's life......who wants to swing at a golf ball with vigor? Chop wood like a sissy? Ski scared of the edge? imho, If you are making incorrect anatomical actions in your swing, your body will tell you...some injury will show up, guaranteed..... from my experience here, one of the most important things a person can do as a fundamental in their golf swing as they age (or any age) is this..... make sure their right hip is dropping as your left hip posts through impact..... not getting that right hip dropping correctly is the absolute worst thing for the lower back and sacrum.. and age will show any golfer this golf swing truth...... the right knee cannot move out toward the ball through impact, but must more so collapse toward the left knee.... Scotty Sheff being an extreme example of this action......anyhow......
That graphic seems to explain how how i have been fit into a blade a number of times even as a 7 hcp. I have a decent swing swing speed (92-94mph 7 iron), launch the ball very high but with relatively low spin. My miss and general strike pattern is heel side as well. Iv currently got P790's but looking to change as the distances i get are rediculas (7 iron carry 185-190) and i am prone to getting the odd 200 yarder and flying greens far more than coming up short. Recently got fit for the pro 241 which i was amazed at. I absolutely love them but just never thought id actually be fit for them.
A bit demanding on my sum setup having GS Pro and Foresight FSX 2020 running together side by side but agree for the visuals it's the most impressive platform 👍
That is a beautiful iron, well presented and well done with your dodgy knee. Does tomorrow bring something I can refresh my T7 wedges with? I hope so, can't believe they binned the T7. Been in my bag for donkeys ❤
Those distance numbers seen low for the club/ball speed. Or, alternatively, club/ball is high for the distance? I know there's a lot of variables, but still.
@@AskGolfNut Using my Uneekor Eye Mini, JPX 923's, here are my numbers: 9 Iron: 149.6 club km/h 185.9 ball km/h 147.9 carry (metres) 7 Iron: 141.3 club km/h 198.2 ball km/h 171.3 carry (metres) I am assuming it is the springier face on the JPX's?
Hope your knee feels better soon. Thanks for the timely video release. The sound was nice for those strikes. I use the 241, but looking of a combo set. These lofts look like a perfect fit, but is it worth that or should I just get the whole set? Also using the heat maps on your bronze site the 241's have a bigger sweet spot than the 245's. Is that correct? Thanks
In a manner of speaking yes, it's due very much like a lot of other players irons, to the fact that the CG of the head is more in line with the strike point allowing a better transfer of energy. Now the hotter clubs get around this by having hollow bodies with thinner faster faces, but their CG location is lower so sometimes suffers in the Forgiveness front. However if you look at the Advanced Data section with all the Launch dynamics differences this is where some clubs differ again. Due to the CG location, Launch Factor, Face, Spin Rates and Distance Potential numbers are different also so Forgiveness is only 1 part of a much larger fitting puzzle 👍
Great review Jay. Might be testing your memory here but how do you rate these against previous JPX Tour models... in particular the 919 Tours? My guess is better feel and looks but likely similar in terms of distance and forgiveness. Tempted to go for these 7i-PW, and a couple of 245s in the 5 and 6i bent 2° weak. Leaves a 5° gap between the 6 and 7i but feel like the higher launch of the 245s might mean this isn't too much of an issue. 9HCP, 7i SS ~88mph for reference if you think something like this could work 😊
That the old 221s were poorly custom fitted, or you prefer the aesthetic difference between the two. Other than that there will be very minor performance and forgiveness differences to justify changing 👍
Excellent video, these new Mizuno Pro S-3 irons do like fantastic but since you have previously hit and reviewed the Cobra King CB (which I currently play) how do both these irons compare in size, performance and forgiveness?
I love the fact that Mizuno has maintained traditional lofts with the S3. Seven iron is at 34 degrees. What’s new is old again. These new club series will have four-year cycles as opposed to the one-year cycles that the big boys have.
It's a brave direction to go with a 4 year life cycle, it absolutely means that having a stable players platform is really good for continuity however the marketing machine needs to work hard to ensure these don't basically get forgotten about in year 3 and 4.....👍
My New Year’s resolution is to get Jay to embrace satin finish in all these irons. Reason #1: satin finish prevents sun glare from messing you up #2: satin finish represents a more relaxed take on the game of golf #3: satin finish is more like a nice French Polynesian fusion dish vs chrome and traditional lasagna Just a start…. But there are so many reasons why satin should absolutely be in and chrome should forever be out!!!
Really love these and on my wish list for 2025. Hope 2025 will also bring a real contender in the driver market for Mizuno to seriously rival the QI35 line. Thanks Jay as always.
I'm curious...if you slap some lead tape out on the toe, will it stretch the green part of the heat map out? I'm not a bad ball striker, but for some reason, I intuitively like to stay away from the hotel, and for some reason feel as if the sweet spot on clubs would be further from the hosel. Any advice? I have a set I think I want to play with, but I thought I would seek your input first.
It wouldn't stretch the green area but it would shift it so it would have the desired effect. Although face closure rate might also be affected by moving weight towards the toe.... Just a thought 👍
@AskGolfNut Thanks! I'm going to give it a go. I think my more solid contact will outweigh the compensation I may need to make for my potential slower closure rate. We'll see.
I have some concerns about getting enough flight out of the 5 & 6 and have similar speeds to your own. Would you combo those at the top of the set or do you feel comfortable up to the 5?
Personally (if my knee would allow) I feel comfortable all the way to the 5 iron. The Pro S3 irons do surprisingly well at launching the golf ball from a blades (basically) perspective and as it spins also very well it allows for good long iron use 👍
Yep it has been irritating. I believe I've suffered a torn meniscus so has been pretty difficult to swing and twist on the left knee. I think it's getting better but I'm at the stage where I don't want to risk hurting it as it's possibly nearly there in its recovery 🤞🤞🤞
Hmm....I currently play off 7 and have been gaming the JPX923 Tour for a year........would you swap for the S3.......is there enough difference, in your opinion, between the two to change? thanks - great review as always and hope the knee gets better..........
Honestly if you love your 923 Tours then I'd stick with them for at least another season. These Pro S3 irons are a 4 year life cycle product so they'll be about next year when you may consider again a change 😁
I'd put it out therer that the MP18 SC actually had more tech in there than these 👍 although raw tech doesn't necessarily make something automatically better 👍
@@AskGolfNut appreciate the comment mate you said you’re looking at the T wedges tomorrow. I actually still have the 18s and still play the S-18s wedges of old so would be intrigued to see if the new T’s work with them!
Let's say hypothetically that the Signature Series will continue running along the Bladed design and an S1 would be a replacement for their blade, the very earliest we would likely see something would be say around September, however if we look at Mizunos release cycle of every two years prior and the month of that release, we would be looking at this time next year.... We will just have to wait and see and search through the forums for any leaks going forward 👍
I don't think so, I believe Mizuno want to full on Players irons in the Signature line and thus leaving the 2 other more tech inspired heads within the Pro line currently to be placed in another named line up... What it will be called unfortunately I'm bound by NDA to not disclose 👍
Very odd…it seems to slot between the 241 and 245 where the 243 is…if you look at the comparison chart on Mizuno’s site, it’s pretty close to the 243s in all the measurements (blade length and offset almost identical), but a noticeably thinner sole…I’m glad they made it because I loved the 221s, but needed more help, but for some reason, I can’t get on with the 223/243…it just feels too big…with this thinner sole, I’m looking forward to comparing it to the JPX Forged…
In reality I see this very very close to the 241s. I think Mizuno is going through a rebranding of its iron ranges starting with the Signature range with the S3. The full on blade will most likely come next..... Guessing S1 and then the other end of the MP line with all the tech in them will sit possibly called something else but I like it how Mizuno are wanting to go back to its roots for an iron design of this type 👍
Not allowed to say, however if we look at previous patterns it would suggest that the earliest we'll see something is late August at the very very earliest... Latest in January 2026 👍
@AskGolfNut Well played sir. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get surprised in a month. I know the refresh to the 241 usually comes in January next year, but wasn't sure if they would push it forward, and bring it out this year to pair with this S3.
Whenever they do I hope they are chrome.... I think I'm hoping there.... But I can see the next set of irons if the potentially named S1 irons come along and are slightly even more sleeker than these lovely specimen 😊😊👍
What a gorgeous iron. Even if you are a mid to high handicap player with 70 mph swing speed, if you are content with carry from traditional weak lofts, and you like to work at golf, then you can spend many pleasant hours working to improve your contact, your strike, with the help of a can of Dr Scholl’s spray foot powder. You are the type who doesn’t want it to be easy but to be rewarding when you hit it correctly.
I agree anyone wanting to get the most consistency from themselves would do well using these irons and learning the art of consistency of strike. Many Game Improvement Irons with large areas of forgiveness does nothing to train the golfer to keep towards the middle of the face and rely on the club to do the work. 🤞
@ And as a 70 mph swing speed, you’re going to use the PW, 9,8,7 and maybe 6. You accept 127 carry with the 7. All the other gaps fall neatly in place. Then you will use hybrids or high lofted woods to complete your set: for example 11w, 9w, 7w and 5W, plus driver. Plus maybe three wedges and putter.
Handicap is and always has been a terrible way to select equipment to test or buy and I put this purely on the shoulders of the manufacturers being responsible for pedalling this common misconception. Handicap is a measure of score only and in no way an indicator of what golfer should use what equipment. Base your equipment choices on the needs of your personal swing. Do you need forgiveness more than say optimising Launch Factor, Face Speed or Face Spin Rates...there are always generalisations to make that higher handicap golfers need more forgiving irons but through the years of coaching and Custom Fitting I have lost count of the amount of golfers that not only buck the trend but are in total opposition to it 👍👍👍
They left the tour in the jpx range for marketing. They wanted people with the jpx game improvement irons to feel like they were playing something similar to the tour guys.
Unfortunately in a review there is no actual way to compare the effects of the bounce differences between the sets. The camera may pick up the sole thickness differences but in no way what the angle differences are between them. The difference between the two are so small in this particular area that no reviewer could objectively measure how one does over the other 👍
Just remember handicap is a measure of score rather than equipment needs... Depending on what you need from an iron these are well worth a test but agree Forgiveness wise the HMP is really really hard to argue against 👍
im not a fan of that JPX-style satin with white paintfill that Mizuno is stuck on. I miss the days of MP60, MP64 chrome. This beaded pearl satin finish rubs to some odd shiny-but not-chrome around the hosel and face when it lives next to other clubs in your bag.
I wouldn't know as mine stay under cover for the entire time and only see daylight just as they are about to be used and then straight away housed into darkness again 🤣🤣👍👍
Agree. Mp64 would also be quite a bit more forgiving. This is a blade disguised with a cavity back. Mizuno has now created 2 competing blades. I don't get it. Give me a forgiving players CB without jacked lofts. I guess there's plenty of older Mizuno CB's to choose from.
I'm using a relatively low spinning ball so if anyone was to use say a Pro Vx the spin would move to around 6500 say... Again it's all to do with dynamic loft delivery also, I'm delivering 6 iron static lofts dynamically so anyone that delivers with more or less will see a deviation in spin from my averages, and that's before we talk about attack angles and face to path differences 😊👍
@AskGolfNut Ya its not a lot but for this type of club it is a lot. Doesn't make sense. This is supposed to be between the 221 and 223. So basically a blade with minimal cavity. Yet they put that amount of offset. Cobra CBs look nicer. I'll have to see these in person first but seems frustrating
In Mizunos own words they are trying to go back to their Timeless roots of club design for the Signature models and then leave the Timely heavily tech inspired irons in a different range.... Name to be disclosed at a later date 😉😉👍👍
How could best can get any better. I have 2 sets of 221s. I play the chrome/satin set regularly and have the limited blues under my bed. Let’s see what the S1s are gonna look like but, I am in agreement with you that I prefer the chrome or chrome/satin finish versus the white satin. 😊 I am willing to be curious as to what the T1s have over my T-24s. Thanks for the intro!
T1 and T3 Wedges coming tomorrow. It's a much more of a video explaining the differences between all the wedges and what golfers would suit which Grind and Bounce 👍
@ Gotcha! Thank you! I work at a Mizuno Authorized Dealer as a fitter and builder so they should be in by the release date. I won’t hit any other wedges but the Ts.
In the UK the fitting accounts have had their update kits to the DNA carts which includes 8 or so different wedge heads for golfers to finally be able to test the wedges alongside the irons within the fitting 👍
Is it not the case that this is the JPX 925 Tour, satin, boxy, more bounce than the MP range, but the tour pro’s who want those modern details over the MP don’t want it stamped JPX? So Mizuno stamp it Mizuno Pro even though it is not in the style of an MP. Which then leaves Mizuno in a tricky spot when it comes to the next round of Mizuno Pro.
@@AskGolfNut just one point on the looks. For us Antipodeans, the intensity and regularity of the sunshine makes the chrome a distraction, even though I agree shiny looks better.
No I've been very fortunate, as soon as I felt something go I stopped straight away... It's been building over time so I've been super careful with it over the last month or so, fingers crossed it's well on the way to healing.... Wrong time of year for it to happen unfortunately 👍
I am guessing you want sympathy from YT for your knee because there is a lack of sympathy at home! As I have had a grumbling knee for decades (school rugby will do that), you have my sympathy. I loved the JPX Tour irons. First tried the 918 Tour and could not believe how easy it was to hit, although the size of the 5i was definitely scarily small. As I got better the 5i in the Tour looked less scary but each generation was still so easy to hit, I just felt the looks gradually got less attractive From the video those irons sounded so soft. I am not changing my i210s any time soon but the S3s are very tempting
They are absolutely back to full on 1025E Grain Flow Forged with Copper Underlay, no tech apart from Sole relief so are back to its roots of being a proper honest forging 👍
I really don't understand spending 20 minutes reviewing these given that most people who are gonna be hitting these aren't sitting on UA-cam watching it. I love your channel man but I'd be spending five minutes on this video. This is a tour player irons and they're gonna get fitted for these. There is really no point in us watching this videobut I do love your channel. Don't see that as a criticism.

S3 vs Blueprint S comparison .... yes please
If the request gets enough LIKES I'll absolutely be putting it on the video list 👍
Given how many times you used the word "lovely," how about a Ping i230 comparison? 😄
Two very lovely irons 🙂 if the suggestion gets enough LIKES then I'll definately add it to the list 👍

Gotta get that knee better! Thank you for putting yourself through the paces for us!
It's healing, torn meniscus can take months to heal and that's as long as it doesn't get hurt again by pushing too hard too soon. It's just sods law for it to happen at this time of year 😐👍👍
There is no way I could ever hit those irons, but I still like to watch your reviews.
Well worth a test as testing irons is a fun activity and you never know how you might get on 😉😉😊👍👍👍
This video is amazing! Great breakdown and love the heat maps!!! Great job
Glad you enjoyed it! Much appreciated 👍👍
If you like smaller heads, the Ping Eye 2s are still amazing, I have 2-sw in BeCu. The GOAT.
Thanks Jay. Great in depth review as always. I love how Mizuno continue to make irons like this when most other manufacturers don’t update their MB/CB for years. They’re not going to fly off the shelves but ……
Yep and from what I'm hearing they are a 4 year life cycle product .... 👍
When is the release date in the uk. They look amazing
This looks amazing. But I feel like it's a 923 Tour with a pre-worn leading edge. Any chance we could get a comparison between the two?
Hey golfnut! I got the mizuno 923 tours and I love them so much. Been trying to convince myself that maybe I need more forgiveness but I compared my shot to the mizuno pros and even the p790 and my dispersion is still much better than those. This mizuno s3 looks amazing and also looks a bit more forgiving then my tours. Would you say the 923 tour and s3 are comparable or which would you choose?
Thanks again for all you do!! :))
My jaw dropped at the sneak peak of the T1 wedges. S3 irons and T1 wedges might be making a debut in my bag this season.
Make sure you go to a good Swing DNA Custom Fitting facility.... Let me know how you get on 👍👍
If this head is above average in forgiveness, what's not to like?
Cannot wait to test it. 🤩
Remind me of my MP18sc, I loved them and sometimes wished had never changed to the 223s. Maybe the S3 is my calling!! Great video, thanks Jay, get well soon bud.
Thanks very much Ian, glad you enjoyed the video 👍👍
Wondering what these look like next to the 923 Tour? Are they comparable in footprint?
These or the new srixon zxi7s will be my new irons. Do you know which ones are more forgiving out the toe? Thats my miss.
Haven't as yet reviewed the new Srixon irons, they'll be soon so make sure you are subscribed and have the notification bell on so you don't miss it 👍
Hi Jay, any chance you can hit the S3 back to back with the MP62. Seems a similar design!!
MP-62 was my first every Mizuno set. These S-3 irons are definitely taking me back.
Looks like the love affair with the 245s will continue and for good reason 👍
I have the 245 as well. The amount of tech in those clubs really makes you feel like you could hit anything. LOL.
Still Mp20 still takes a beating & will still game them absolutely love them
The chrome on the MP20 was lovely, I played them myself 👍
@AskGolfNut yep simplicity squat looking little Mizuno emblem perfect
And the feel , shot precision
As far as sole, size and length comparison how are these in relation to the Pro 245’s? I’m planning on going to get fit in the near future and these look super clean. Now, to hit them good is a different story but I’m very interested in these.
I wanted these but 2nd swing had new 923 tours close out for $599. Very similar but these look better
thanks for all the top down views of the club face... guys do all these iron reviews and rarely ever let you look down on the iron like you would at the ball.... drives me crazy searching a vid for a quick look.... thanks.
You're very welcome, I'll ensure I add enough footage of down by the ball in all reviews going forward as well 👍👍
@@AskGolfNut thanks man
new sub, I was lookin' at your swing too
Its not the best at the moment, had a knee injury that has stopped me from swinging for quite a while and only now getting back to swinging whilst trying to protect the knee 😬
MP H5 are the best ever, great looks, soft feel and accuracy in short irons, height, accuracy and distance in long ones
Wow they are a blast from the past 😊 some say the H4 and H5 paved the way for the design of the modern 245 👍
That is what you call a very nice top line❤
Shame they can't make the JPX Forged look that small😂
Get the file out 😊 I was, kidding before anyone actually goes to the garage and grabs their tools 😊
@AskGolfNut Have a bench grinder 😃
I absolutely love them but just never thought id actually be fit for them.
love the move to GSPro!
A bit demanding on my sum setup having GS Pro and Foresight FSX 2020 running together side by side but agree for the visuals it's the most impressive platform 👍
Great looking club! And that approach looks very similar (minus the creek) to Pasatiempo number 16!
That is a beautiful iron, well presented and well done with your dodgy knee. Does tomorrow bring something I can refresh my T7 wedges with? I hope so, can't believe they binned the T7. Been in my bag for donkeys ❤
Check out the video I just released at 2pm UK Time 👍👍

Will they go in your bag though Jay?
Those distance numbers seen low for the club/ball speed. Or, alternatively, club/ball is high for the distance?
I know there's a lot of variables, but still.
What would you have been expecting to have seen? 👍
@AskGolfNut my numbers... Uneekor Eye Mini, JPX923's... Km/h and meters, not mph/yards... Stock solid strike:
141.3 club
198.2 ball
171.3 carry
@@AskGolfNut Using my Uneekor Eye Mini, JPX 923's, here are my numbers:
9 Iron:
149.6 club km/h
185.9 ball km/h
147.9 carry (metres)
7 Iron:
141.3 club km/h
198.2 ball km/h
171.3 carry (metres)
I am assuming it is the springier face on the JPX's?
@@Sisu2280 have you got the spin rates and Launch angles 👍
@@AskGolfNut Yep - I took a screen shot of both:
7 Iron:
17.8 Launch
5177 Spin
9 Iron:
21.2 Launch
7381 Spin
Lower spin the reason?
Great review as always. These look not unlike my old mp60s and mp18sc.
Yes if the MP60 and MP18 had relations.... The Pro S3 would be the result 😊👍
9HCP, 7i SS ~88mph for reference if you think something like this could work 😊
What would be a reason to move from the 221's to the S-3's?
That the old 221s were poorly custom fitted, or you prefer the aesthetic difference between the two. Other than that there will be very minor performance and forgiveness differences to justify changing 👍
Sad that the tour is gone. I think they need a tour that's slightly more forgiving, but much less chunky than the forged
this is the tour now. looks great!
Excellent video, these new Mizuno Pro S-3 irons do like fantastic but since you have previously hit and reviewed the Cobra King CB (which I currently play) how do both these irons compare in size, performance and forgiveness?
If this suggestion gets enough LIKES then I'll happily add it to the video list 👍👍
@@AskGolfNut That would be good but I was just wondering what your own thoughts are between these 2 clubs.
What would be the ping comparable - i230? Blueprint S?
This S3 is definitely more down the Blueprint S rather than the i230, the i230 comparison is the Pro 243 👍
How do these compare to the 919 tour
I love the fact that Mizuno has maintained traditional lofts with the S3. Seven iron is at 34 degrees. What’s new is old again. These new club series will have four-year cycles as opposed to the one-year cycles that the big boys have.
It's a brave direction to go with a 4 year life cycle, it absolutely means that having a stable players platform is really good for continuity however the marketing machine needs to work hard to ensure these don't basically get forgotten about in year 3 and 4.....👍
One year cycles? Titleist haven't changed the 620 mb and cb since 2019! SIX YEARS!!
How would you compare to the old mp32 - I really loved those? Playing from hcp 4, will these hurt the game?
Or the MP 60?
My New Year’s resolution is to get Jay to embrace satin finish in all these irons.
Reason #1: satin finish prevents sun glare from messing you up
#2: satin finish represents a more relaxed take on the game of golf
#3: satin finish is more like a nice French Polynesian fusion dish vs chrome and traditional lasagna
Just a start…. But there are so many reasons why satin should absolutely be in and chrome should forever be out!!!
Really love these and on my wish list for 2025. Hope 2025 will also bring a real contender in the driver market for Mizuno to seriously rival the QI35 line.
Thanks Jay as always.
I've got their 2025 Driver video coming on Thursday 2pm UK Time 😊
@ Amazing! Cannot wait.
@AskGolfNut
Thanks! I'm going to give it a go. I think my more solid contact will outweigh the compensation I may need to make for my potential slower closure rate. We'll see.
How do you sign up for your website. I went there but could not find a sign up link? Love the content.

Happy New Year 😊
@ I’m looking forward to more of your great content for 2025. Thanks for all the work you put into your reviews.
@pauls2182 appreciate it, it's a lot of work but makes it all the better when I receive kind feedback 😊👍
@ Take care of that knee!
How would the new S3 compare to the JPX923 Tours?
Very very similar I initially feel, without testing properly 👍
Thank you… I love my 923 Tours, so doesn’t sound like I need to go spend any money just yet…
Get well soon. I know how frustrating a wonky knee can be.
These look so close to the MP18 SC I used to game! I’d love to know what difference there is in tech?
I'd put it out therer that the MP18 SC actually had more tech in there than these 👍 although raw tech doesn't necessarily make something automatically better 👍
@@AskGolfNut appreciate the comment mate you said you’re looking at the T wedges tomorrow. I actually still have the 18s and still play the S-18s wedges of old so would be intrigued to see if the new T’s work with them!
Wish I was good enough to play a set of these 😂
Why not give them a test 😊 it's alwasy nice to test new clubs even if you feel you aren't good enough to play them 👍
@ currently don’t have a club to play at. Ours went bust last year. But if I was to buy a new set I’m very interested in Wilson DP forged
anyone have any news on a S1 to be released?
Let's say hypothetically that the Signature Series will continue running along the Bladed design and an S1 would be a replacement for their blade, the very earliest we would likely see something would be say around September, however if we look at Mizunos release cycle of every two years prior and the month of that release, we would be looking at this time next year.... We will just have to wait and see and search through the forums for any leaks going forward 👍
what is that software used?
On the main projector screen it's GS Pro, for the Club Head delivery screen it's FSX 2020 👍
Are we looking at 4 S series irons in this collection?
I don't think so, I believe Mizuno want to full on Players irons in the Signature line and thus leaving the 2 other more tech inspired heads within the Pro line currently to be placed in another named line up... What it will be called unfortunately I'm bound by NDA to not disclose 👍
This lineup is getting a little confusing, but I'm sure when everything is out it will make more sense.
Very similar to the MP-62s back in the day
Mizuno returning to the less tech inspired iron making. 👍
@@AskGolfNut Will they drop the S1 this year?
Not allowed to say, however if we look at previous patterns it would suggest that the earliest we'll see something is late August at the very very earliest... Latest in January 2026 👍
@AskGolfNut Well played sir. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to get surprised in a month. I know the refresh to the 241 usually comes in January next year, but wasn't sure if they would push it forward, and bring it out this year to pair with this S3.
Whenever they do I hope they are chrome.... I think I'm hoping there.... But I can see the next set of irons if the potentially named S1 irons come along and are slightly even more sleeker than these lovely specimen 😊😊👍
is the Wilson Staff CB more forgiving than the S3?
+1
Lovely
T100 23 comparison softer?
I'd love to be able to tell you but since Titliest still don't reply to my attempts to contact them..... Your guess is as good as mine 🤷🤦👍
@ well I am split these look amazing grew up playing hogan apex blades but want little more forgiveness now
Where does this fit / how does this perform versus the 241 & 243?
It sits much closer to the 241s than anything 243.... The 243s have far more tech in them and the Pro S3 line is a much simpler design. 👍
How do we think these will compare to 919 JPX Tour? +2 handicap trying to talk myself out of upgrading to these.. haha
I'd say go give them a test but I'm trying to talk you out of it 😊😊👍
I am playing mp53 currently. Would these be similar ?
Kind of but the Pro S3 may well have slightly smaller dimensions, but will still feel every bit as good 👍
Can a10 hndcp use em
Compare those to JPX923 tours I would like to see the bounce compared to these
Unfortunately in a review there is no actual way to compare the effects of the bounce differences between the sets. The camera may pick up the sole thickness differences but in no way what the angle differences are between them. The difference between the two are so small in this particular area that no reviewer could objectively measure how one does over the other 👍
Look nice
I agree..... But can someone Chrome them and release a limited edition 😊
Those look lovely, but a HMP is more in my handicap range
Just remember handicap is a measure of score rather than equipment needs... Depending on what you need from an iron these are well worth a test but agree Forgiveness wise the HMP is really really hard to argue against 👍
The face length seems a bit too long for me…I prefer the Blueprint T’s…but this is one awesome iron in both performance and aesthetics.
It must be the camera as one thing these blade lengths are is long or even close to it 🙂👍
im not a fan of that JPX-style satin with white paintfill that Mizuno is stuck on.
@@AskGolfNut Ha,, yeah, I was mostly referring to them jostling in a car of walking with a carry bag :)
Nothing but lovely cushioned touches in my bag as I walk along 🤣🤣👍👍
Isn’t it low spinning for 34°? Maybe not. Seems pretty good at 70mph
These look almost identical to the 223 just in a brushed finish
Knee sympathy! Get better soon Jay.
Thanks very much Paul 👍
Why did they have to put so much offset
One thing I wouldn't say is that this club has a lot of offset... It's minimal really. Is it full on blade offset no but very very close 👍
I really like this look that's more like classic cb irons. Too much going on with hollow heads, graphics etc. on current irons.
In Mizunos own words they are trying to go back to their Timeless roots of club design for the Signature models and then leave the Timely heavily tech inspired irons in a different range.... Name to be disclosed at a later date 😉😉👍👍
First shot. The Mizuno sound of old…. Right there!!
Feels lovely at impact, old school Mizuno vibes 😊👍
@ We have a new fitting cart that came in several months ago but it does not have the new wedges or the S3.
So when are we seeing the S3 Vs ZXi7 review???????????????? this is the comparison test for 2025 imo - love the vids!
As soon as I get the Srixon samples I'll be reviewing them individually and then the compares will definitely start 👍👍
They look like my mp-18 sc irons 👀
They do, and really it's best to see them as softer, less tech inspired and smaller dimension versions of the SC. Mizuno going back to their roots 👍
245 could be a S5?
Couldn't say, not allowed 😊 but I don't think the naming convention will work quite like that 🤷👍
Mp 18 vibes.
mp18 sc
Much smaller top line and blade length than the MP18 SC ... they were quite thick and long for a 'tour' cavity
I think the Signature line is here to stay for a while at least 😊👍
Look the same as mp18 sc
Very similar design 👍
Very ping i230
oh my.. they look the money.. not certain i strike it well enough to justify though
They are more forgiving than I initially gave them credit for. The heat map is decent for the type of iron 👍
@@AskGolfNut just one point on the looks. For us Antipodeans, the intensity and regularity of the sunshine makes the chrome a distraction, even though I agree shiny looks better.
Shame about the Satin finish. Mizuno Satin clubs unfortunately look a bit basic and unfinished to me.
I have a tendency to agree but that's only as I have an unhealthy obsession with chrome 😂
Laid up last 3 months with torn meniscus no fun at all
No I've been very fortunate, as soon as I felt something go I stopped straight away... It's been building over time so I've been super careful with it over the last month or so, fingers crossed it's well on the way to healing.... Wrong time of year for it to happen unfortunately 👍
Some sympathy.
I joke, injuries suck. Hope you're fixed up ready for the season
Thanks for the kind thoughts.
You are right, you can definitely see a bit of MP18 SC in there but definitely without the Tech of the SC 👍
I hit the so called clubs for Elite players, much better than the big game improvement irons for some reason. I’m no where near an elite golfer.
As I got better the 5i in the Tour looked less scary but each generation was still so easy to hit, I just felt the looks gradually got less attractive
From the video those irons sounded so soft.
Sympathy
😂
Thanks 😉👍👍👍
