Crocodile was introduced way to early in the manga honestly he was a super villain he had plans people and ambition. That 3rd fight was a very good fight to, my POV is that whole arc should have been near the end of the grand line saga crocodile got done dirty. I’m happy to see him back on track shining in the latest chapters though.
@@oliversynowiec3350 exactly because crocodile isn’t weak he basically defeated himself, he would have won if he made sure luffy was dead in the desert showdown.
Crocodile was absolutely built different bro. Even the first time you heard his laugh, you knew he was a cut above. Sucks for him that he ran into our favorite rubber crackhead tho
Watching this video awakened some dormant memories in me and helped me realise another reason why we older One Piece fans tend to love Crocodile so much all these years on: The way he was DRAWN. His presentation is just S-tier throughout the Alabasta arc, and what's more is that it develops in both an aesthetically and narratively interesting way. In 'round 1', he is consistently nonchalant; downward-angled eyes that look so bored they're almost sad; his figure is often shadowy and backlit its so dramatic; his stances are straight-backed and confident; and the few times he does emote he is just annoyed at Luffy's churlishness or smugly confident in how overpowering he is. The guy just comes off as godlike in how overwhelming he is to the protagonist, like how the hell does this untouchable man get beaten? And his art supports all of that. But in round 2 his design begins to change: the shadows are gone; his poses are more dramatic and his facial expressions are more ecstatic, and this combined with how he begins to get more acrobatic and abandons his unreactive straight-backed power-poses sells the impression that he's starting to overcompensate in the face of encountering his first threat in years. He is more animated generally, like the sick dodge-flip he pulls at 3:31, and he even gets a classic exaggerated One Piece super-jaw-mouth at 3:49 - a new burst of emotion that leads to a big blunder and a bad hit for him. Then compare his victorious smiles: in round 1's at 2:34, it is plain, undetailed, simple smugness with minimal line work that suggests that he doesn't even care that much and is just glad to be rid of this straw-hat pest, but in this round at 4:34 it's a menacing, dishevelled, shadowy frustration mixed with glee and exasperation that he's finally checkmated this danger. He still wins, but he's now portrayed as an actual fighter who is just more experienced than his opponent, instead of a God. Then finally round 3: much of his line work is shaking; he has that classic anime "I'm beat-up/tired" criss-cross marking all over his skin; his hair is permanently unkempt; his facial shadows are a more bruised, cornered-animal purple & grey rather than their previous menacing mysterious black,; his smiles are tinged with an uncertainty; his reactions to hits are a lot less dignified and he's just generally covered in a lot more blood. Not to mention - and I could be remembering this wrong, but - I don't think he ever once completely disassembles his body into sand during this fight. We get a brief glimpse of his previous untouchable confidence when he starts banking on the poison but that's a red herring that only leads to a further debasement of his power. By the end of it - really by Desert La Spada - he's just done: torn apart bit by bit over multiple subtle stylistic transformations that perfectly chronicle how his supposed invincibility gets slowly worn down and his confidence wanes in tandem with his advantage. And I don't really think any villain since has had such a gracefully presented transformation, presented through physical art narrative, as this. Enel & Lucci were decent, but not as smooth (Enel's famous WTF face was just such a jarring, if incredibly entertaining, leap - not worse, but completely different), Moria was mostly the same clownish face throughout, Hodi Jones had a completely different kind of transformation, based on actual power-up transformations like he was the freakin Hulk or something, Doflamingo was severely monotoned by his sunglasses, Katakuri really just had one big single change with his scarf/vest removal, Big Mom had power-up changes which are again a different breed of beast and Kaido just went from being angry to more angry (and then drunk). Only Crocodile really took you through this journey of his character reacting in so many layers to the developing threat that he was facing across the many different stages of his time as a protagonist, and he did it all without a backstory. Even his re-iterations in Impel Down and Cross Guild don't quite seem to have matched the depth of what we saw of him in Alabasta.
I couldn't agree more (sorry, i feel bad for responding with such a short sentence to such a long and thought out comment, but I'm afraid i don't have the same brain power currently, as i haven't slept much in the past few days)
Crocodile basically did everything right in his scheme. By all means he had that entire nation outplayed at every turn He just wasn’t expecting a rubber crackhead to pull up and survive getting impaled through the chest, buried in sand, and dehydrated before literally beating him up with his blood covered fists Luffy’s fighting style of “let’s see what happens first, will I get tired of being beat up or will you get tired of beating me up” will never not be funny
@@LightSkinJutsu Not even that, defense would imply he isn't getting hurt getting punched through the chest is very much not a feat of defense Luffy is just the final form of a cockroach, you can try and kill him but he just. won't. die.
