I have been buying only natural fibers, cotton, wool, and linen. I am finding that almost everything in the women's clothing department has a cotton/polyester mix. They are putting plastic in everything! I am getting rid of all my acrylic sweaters and making new ones out of cotton or wool. I have switched our bed sheets for linen or organic cotton ones and our blankets for cotton or wool. Even my husband looks at labels to see what things are made of. Our skin is our biggest organ, so we want to be aware of what we put on it. Thanks for this video, Heidi, it was very informative.
Could you recommend laundry washing products that you like?
@judysentell5956 for my handknit woolens I use eucalan wool wash. As for my other clothes, sheets, and blankets, I haven't found anything yet that I would say was best to use. Right now I'm using All Free and Clear. I used to make my own detergent but then heard that it's bad for washing machines. 🫤
@anapronfullofweeds5626 You just need to find a recipe that's HE-friendly. When your washer kicks the bucket, find an old school one or a wringer washer to replace it. Newer ones aren't made to last and they don't actually get your stuff clean.

A friend and I dug into linen a few years back. It was frustrating trying to find it and a reasonable price. Then....we need to consider the word "reasonable". It last longer and it's good for you. Just like food - sometimes you need to spend more which in the end saves you money. So THANK YOU for sharing where you are buying it. BTW, I'm saving all my used up and wore out cotton to use in place of batting for my quilts.
Also, I believe being able hang out the linen sheets vs drying in the dryer will help them to last longer. Of course, winter is coming. I may have to try hanging them in front of our fireplace like you do with your wood stove.

People always spoke of their "linens", meaning sheets, towels, wash cloths, etc. , they even talked about a "linen closet"! That's what caused me to look into linen. I'm glad it's more durable than cotton. That's information I was needing but could never word it right to get info from Google.
As far as I know, the only linen garment that I’ve ever had, was a long robe that my brother brought me home from a mid-east tour with the Navy. It had embroidery on the top and I wore it as a nightgown. That was about 40 years or so ago, so it’s long gone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on linen, I have been replacing my clothes with 100% cotton for the last couple of years, so as I replace, I will start looking for linen.

This has inspired me to learn to sew. I just bought 8 yards. I love linen and have started buying dresses and blouses piece by piece, but it is expensive. I want to learn to make simple patterns for myself. Thank you for the inspiration.
I love linen, too! I do find long sleeve linen shirts at thrift stores which I really like to wear in winter here in South Texas. I have found linen shirts and pants occasionally at garage sales. I found a beautiful vintage unused printed light to med weight drapery linen with gold and brown leaves at a thrift store (beautiful!). It was 9.99 for about 9 yds. I'm making curtains with it for one of my old house double long windows. I've made a crossbody purse with vintage linen. It's so comfortable to wear. I plan on sewing a few tops and pants in linen. Went out shopping yesterday for fabric and sheets for a skirt. I’m excited to start wearing them again. I am making some for gifts too

Good morning, I wanted to share that I learned to spin linen on my spinning wheel . The wheel came with the distaff for spinning flax so I wanted to try it and took a class at a fiber fair. Very interesting history and the process of flax to linen is quite fascinating and time consuming. When you spin the prepared flax it's spun in the opposite direction as wool and you have to dip your fingers in water to help the process.
I found some linen yarn at thrift store and am weaving a linsy-woolsy fabric piece. The wool I'm using is from my sheep and is dyed in onion skins. This I demoed at a Reformation fair held by our church . Different booths were set up and people displayed and demoed things from that time period. I did the spinning and weaving. The spinning wheel had just been invented in Europe and gave peasants the opportunity to start cottage industry. Linen was the garment warn against the body and wool on the outside. Linsy-woolsy is best of both worlds.... strength, warmth, cooling, moisture wicking, order wicking. The fair was a lot of fun and we were all in time period costumes.

They believe the first spinning wheels were in India. Leonardo da vinci drew up plans for a spinning wheel but it wasn't actually made until around the time of the Reformation...by a different fellow... forgot his name 🙃

Thanks for sharing but I have been wearing linen fabric and bedding since 1980s. We made the switch to organic wild foods back then.....yes to linen, wool and burlap in the Ozarks

I've been thinking about trading more clothing for linen as well. I know the Bible also mentions wearing linen garments in a few different verses.

Thank you for this one! My journey into natural fibres started some years. It was a combo of learning to knit, having sensitive skin, and becoming more aware of all the toxins around us. Now I find synthetic fibres uncomfortable, both in general and next to the skin in particular. Which makes it difficult when it comes to bras and quite often underwear in general.
I started sewing about a year ago, and am learning the skill very slowly. My goal is to be able to sew my own wardrobe, or at least the vast majority of it. Then I can get what I want, in the fibre I want, and things that actually fit my body!
So far I've mainly used cotton and cotton linen blends, and I'm looking for a good source for linen that won't break the bank. Same with silk. I live far north, so wool isn't that expensive, at least not wool yarn any way. Fabric is a bit more pricey.
Another goal I have is to learn how to weave and spin as well.
One tip I have is linen wash cloths for the body. They are really good also for dry washing, if for some reason you can't take a shower or bath. It will soak up the sweat, oils and skin really well!

I used to have linen clothes but they wrinkled more than my current wardrobe. I mostly can find 100% cotton items at local stores and some online stores. Some are cotton/spandex like my bra and my pants. I've found cotton/linen skirts. Some Etsy stores sell linen clothing and bedding. Stacy from Off Grid with Doug and Stacy said that sugar makes hot flashes worse so lowering or eliminating sugar and carbs that the body processes as sugar may help. Bamboo is also great for people who sweat during sleep. I need silk sheets as the rest pulls the moisture from my hair and skin. My scalp, hair, and skin are dry. I do the LCO (leave-in conditioner, low-porosity hair cream, and seal in the moisture with a liquid oil) which makes my hair soft and less frizzy. I oil cleanse with coconut oil and apply an adult acne friendly skin cream so my skin is soft. Most skin creams break me out. They are not soft when I wake up when I sleep in cotton or linen sheets. I plan to downgrade my bed to a twin size and get the silk sheets then but first have to build a place for the three of us. Need an income to purchase the materials, set up the utilities, and I need to buy nearly all of the household items. I only have two mud cleaning outdoor rugs, a stock pot, kitchen utensils, knife set, flatware, a set of half Gallon mason jars, and an air fryer. I lost my last job on July 17, 2023. No one has hired me for the skills I have since then. I enrolled in Step Up Construction which teaches women in West Virginia for free carpentry, electrical, and plumbing. They also help with resume writing and job placement. I need at least 3 more work appropriate pants in natural fibers to approximate a school week. Also, need to check how I will get to the class. Rehabilitation told me there is a program that enables vision impaired people to drive during the day. If I qualify, I could drive myself to class. If I don't, I will see if I can still ride a bike as that's the second fastest way to get to places. My bust was proportional sizes when I rode a bike. They are proportionally too large now. First I need a Psych evaluation which is scheduled on October 2 and an eye exam which hasn't been scheduled yet. The Fall class already started so I messaged that it was okay to bump me to the Spring class to give me time to get that done. They were filling out the last few seats for the Fall class around the time of my interview with them. Mom bought me two pants. She needed to wait until her next pay day to get the rest but they went up in price since then.
Key words "sugar makes them WORSE" and yes I understand how it works and understand about proper diet and have even done a video on menopause and dealing with it naturally. I do not have a lot of hot flashes but they come and go and they simply happen to most women regardless of diet. Good diet and proper attire can decrease the frequency and intensity but does not necessarily stop them all together.

I think that for the price point issue, the benefits set of linen & my sizable backlog of projects, the first thing I'm going to use it for is my joint brace redesign project. To replace all the soft plastics within the basic designs/forms with said fabric.

In the winter time I often wear bloomers under my skirts to keep warmer. It's nice that they don't go all the way to your ankles, so unlike long underwear, in public no one can tell you have them on. I like the feel and warmth of being in layers during the colder months. I had originally bought the bloomers at the time as I was having chaffing issues.

The scripture is very specific on not wearing a garment of woollen and linen mixed together. See Leviticus 19:19, preferably King James Bible as modern translations often have poor wording

I cold wash and for at least a few washings I tumble dry as this helps soften and pull out the excess lint. Then you can hang dry

Possibly but if we worry ourselves about everything we cannot control, we will die from stress long before the toxins can get us. We have to do the best we can with what is available to us

Elastane is made from polyurethane.
If you mix linen and wool together it cancels the benefits of either one out and you have zero. I have to especially be careful of doing this because I have wool socks and I will get dressed in linen and put socks on that are wool because they are so comfortable. The only linen socks that i have are really thin and I prefer the fluffy wool ones.
If you are speaking Biblically, God only forbid the wearing of a garment that is woven with both linen and wool. In the Hebrew there is one word for this blend: Shatnez
It was not about wearing two different garments, one made of wool and one made of linen. This fact is often misunderstood
@@RainCountryHomestead I am not speaking Biblical on this. I saw the results from a study done by a man named Yellen. His results were that if you mix the two fabrics together it cancels them out. That is where I got the idea that you are not supposed to wear them both at the same time.

I remember seeing a vid where U mentioned the linen cloth U used to strain/drain things with instead of cheesecloth but I can't seem to find it again could pls mention it again as I am starting to make a lot of my own foods now as I am prediabetic.

Because linen & wool both have frequencies of 5000 but are at opposite ends, it is important not to use both in the same garment due to them cancelling each other out. Wool is great because it doesn't burn nor does it absorb water. Even the Bible talks about not mixing linen & wool.
Yes, that is what I learned about the two. One needs to also understand that God was very specific in Leviticus 19:19 about not wearing A garment of woollen and linen woven together. He said nothing about not wearing two different garments of and and the other nor, like many often misunderstand, of a garment of a blend of any other two fibers.

You can use aloe instead or even just water but you may increase the chance of it possibly going moldy

No, you need two of those to make a single skirt unless you are making a three tier, then one may be enough

Yes, I wear 100% cotton flannel as well, mostly my outer shirts and I have some homemade pajamas from flannel as well. Especially great for the cooler months

The Bible mentions not to mix linen and wool together. I researched this a few years ago and I haven't seem to come up with the reason
Specifically, you are not to wear a garment of the two mingled within that same garment. It does not say you cannot wear a linen garment and a wool garment at the same time. However, according to the studies that Dr. Heidi Yellen did, the two can cancel each other out when woven together as far as their health benefits, at least that is what is said. I would not know for certain how true that is and even if it is, if it is the reason why the Father told His people not to wear such a garment
@freedomexplorer360 They cancel each other out. The energy/ frequency of each cancel out the other. So, if you wear a cotton shirt with a wool coat you will not be as warm unless something is between the 2 fabrics. Edited to add; maybe why they put silk lining on coats (not to mention less itchy) lol. IDK? XO
I've often wondered if it had more to do with the genetic modification than a blend. Just a thought. God has made much of ' after their kind '

also to heidi... i cannot speak to any OTHER reasons, but i can tell you that plant fibers are cleaned with a ph base- linen in fact could be cleaned with LYE... where wool and protein fibers are cleaned/best in an acid ph. (vinegar) so putting linen and wool in the same garment would make it very difficult to clean
I have 3 large cuts of linen in different colors that I bought at an estate sale - cheap! But I haven't made anything yet, a little afraid to, lol!
Linen is awesome. i used to spend two weeks at a medieval event (so as much as possible 'in costume' ) and you find out very quickly that while cotton is good? linen is better. we now use linen sheets, and if i could find commercially made linen underwear that fit me i would buy it.
linen makes great dish towels, clothes, "linens" (there is a reason that household linens are called that) its just awesome stuff

Thank you for sharing this, Heidi. I too have been on the journey of changing to all natural fabrics. It all started with wearing Merino wool socks. They are amazing and not just for winter (I’m in Texas) and my feet are actually healthier because of my skin being better. I can’t wait to add linen to our beds and clothing!
I absolutely love linen and have for years. I love collecting it whenever I can find tablecloths or any linens like that at thrift shops and then when I found out about the high frequency that linen has I splurged and bought a set of organic linen sheets! Wow, what a life changer I’m absolutely in love with my sheets I don’t know if I’ll ever use my cotton ones anymore. I’ll just wash my linen and put them right back on the bed. Another perfectly timed video. I am in the early stages of replacing mine or our clothes with natural fibers. Linen is fairly expensive so I started with buying cotton, but yesterday I did order 2 colors of linen. I have been pondering on how to replace private wear. I had thought about the knickers. Wasn't sure which would be best. You have helped me on that thought as well. Thank you. Haven't looked to see if you tell of a linen source. That would be interesting.

I bet Hemp Fabric is similar! We had Hemp for years. Then it went out of fashion, because Cotton was "hot" for denims.... So all the Hemp stopped.
I presently am using linen for my leg I'm.trying to heal! It's only been 3.5 YEARS! I wrapped it with Gauze squares, non stick Teflon squares, pads for absorption, wicking squares. Most was supposedly Cotton. Then they weren't! So I started to slow down on the finishing run! I was upset!
So I had Cotton flannel and started wrapping with that. That was better and I started to finish healing. Thenni got linen and tried that, because I AM super Sensituve TO everything!
I find it is fine using linen. It does not absorb like Cotton. So my wrapping get wet and leg gets cold, then starts to hurt. I can literally SEE where my leg is soaking them, which is a bit embarrassing out in public. 😅 I already look like a weirdo with one leg wrapped in fuschia pink. But soaked spots show easily!
As for healing frequency, I have no evidence yet, to say if it's better or not. I do 2 days linen, 2 days Cotton flannel, Repeat. But I haven't had the linen long enough to give an honest review.
I DO know Frequency matters TO ME! A Sick person can BE as low as 10, in Frequency! I believe my leg is hindered in healing, because it is at 10!
Cotton is 1,000. Linen is 5,000. Leg @10?? It has to make a bonus, using these 2 fabrics!
I use to take care of an elderly man that had sores on his legs because his veins lost their elasticity. The blood would go down and wasn’t being pushed back up cause if the sores. His vein Dr. Got him a pneumatic compression device/ machine. It’s big wraps you put on your leg for about 45 min each leg a day and as long as he used it, his sores were healed. He also put in compression socks to his knees during the day after using the machine in the morning. You may be able to get insurance to pay for it if you can get your Dr. To suggest it. Just wanted to let you know because it worked great for him.
Thanks Heidi! A few years ago I found leggings made of bambo and a pair of wool. Both are comfortable, light weight and heat regulating. I've been thinking about making some linen things.

Thanks for more info in linen, and again sharing your links. I have never had anythibg linen, and as far as I know, I have never touched real linen. In my mind, though, I feel like linen is course and rough... I have been looking at thrift stores since your first video about linen, and cannot find any. I'm thinking about purchasing a yard from one of your sources just so I can finally know what a GOOD linen is. Thank you!
I had thought the same but it depends on the weight of the linen and how new it is. New linen can be a bit rough but softens greatly after 2-3 washes

QUESTIONS: THE LINEN SHEETS PREWASHED/SHRUNK , BUT IS JUST THE FABRIC BY YARD?? I NOTICE SHEETS ARE ORGANIC BUT FABRIC BY YARD IS NOT? HOW MANY YARDS DID IT TAKE FOR ASKIRT? THANK YOU HEIDI!!
The amount of yards will depend on how wide it is and it can be a bit tricky figuring that out. I know for the Amazon 2 yard cuts @ 78" wide, I need two of those for a total of 4. I do have some left over when I am done but it is not a lot. For the 106" wide fabric, I need 2 yards for a skirt
