Dom Joly is, for my money, the greatest prankster out there. His pranks are hilarious - but they transcend even that. They're literally art. And a lot of them are a scathing critique or statement on aspects of society - think the rude phone guy, or the jobsworth traffic warden. Absolute genius stuff.

The concept and execution certainly is, genuinely, Art.
Obviously it was a collective, with purpose, directed by Dom Joly - but, similarly, "Dom Joly", at his height, has much more in common with, "Banksy", Tati, or the Dadaists, than he has with any of the legion of infantile and inane imbéciles you can find on TikTok and UA-cam, simply annoying people by screaming on a train.

Ok Then you know the kind of era it was if you look at the cars in the background on some of the sketches, all of them are 1980/1990’s cars, ford escort, Nissan sunny, vauxhall vectra etc

I don't know what it was that made this time so special. I can't tell if it was because of who I was and where I was on my life's journey, or if the UK was in fact at a peak. People seemed happier. So much seemed to be iconic, even before we had gotten far enough away from it to justifiably name it so. Born Slippy is a good example. It just somehow summed up that time - but it was immediate, you know? First time you heard it, you knew. And there's so little to it as a track. I don't know. I know this looks like the ramblings of a knobber, but I actually am trying to say something. I had some really happy times in the 90s (without drugs, believe it or not!) and I miss many aspects of life then. My life and the life around me. So much about my situation now is comparably better than it was then, yet I'm still filled with an aching nostalgia when I remember what it felt like. Maybe I'm depressed. Maybe life WAS better then, in general. Maybe this is just what happens as we get older - we fixate on a certain point in time and idealise it. I don't know.

Interesting reflection. Nostalgia videos get a lot of lamenting for a lost past, often tinged with racism, but I actually agree there was something contented and feel good about the last years of the 90s. Blair came in on a wave of optimism with dynamic social programmes, there was peace in Northern Ireland at last and the economy was motoring ahead. My youth was the 80s and that was a very troubled time but by the late 90s I was in my mid 30s and life felt good. We had internet but social media had yet to rear its ugly head and housing was still affordable. The beginning of the decline was Bush stealing the election won by Gore, 9/11, then the debacle of the Iraq war which tainted Blair’s reputation permanently. For me the period 1997-2001 will always be the best era of my lifetime

@@gerardmackay8909”racism” lmfao. You know that’s an evolutionary trait to keep you alive and your civilization running. There is nothing wrong with being “racist” now being hateful is a different story and wrong. Why can’t White people have their own homelands? Everyone else gets to. I mean we’ve reached a point where we have to call Europeans Whites because Europe has essentially been invaded. It’s not right. Whites should have their own homelands and soon enough Whites will see what has been done to them what has been taken from them, and fight back. That is going to happen soon. If you were an alien or some other outside 3rd party and you looked at Earth you would think that Whites are a Host that is infested with parasites that feed off of them destroying them and their civilizations. It’s self evident. Stop denying reality. Race is the most important thing and that’s a matter of fact, survival, and sustainability of a (White/European) first world civilization. Everyone knows this too which is why people get so sensitive about race, specifically when it pertains to Whites because everyone knows they are the best. Every other race wants to be one or marry one so their line can have some of that White perfection. Good day and get real.

I was fortunate in being in the right place at the right time. In 2002 we had a work meeting of the entire IT department. Someone's Nokia phone went off with the famous ring tone. There was dead silence, so I shouted "HELLO?". Everyone burst out laughing.

That Travis Perkins skit was originally a deleted scene. It's my all time favourite scene closely followed by the automatic toilet scene.
As funny today as when it was first broadcast 23 years ago. Shear perfection !
The show also had what must be the best soundtrack of any tv show - all 3 seasons. Every song perfectly compliments the scene its playing on.

The ones that cracked me up the most are the ones where he’s a police man walking in the park, then approaches an elderly couple and asks “excuse me, I’ve had reports of two elderly people setting off fireworks in the park and a Catherine wheel”.
Hilarious when you think how it’s making them feel, they would be thinking does this policeman REALLY think we would set off fireworks in the park 😂😂😂😂
And the one where he’s pretending to be an old man taking ages to cross the road, a guy on a motorbike gets off his bike to help him across the road, as soon as he reaches the pavement, he stands bolt up right and marches off 😂😂😂😂
