- In this episode of "One Nation Under God," Adrienne Bankert sits down with John Brejot from Haywood Christian Ministry to discuss how churches are helping victims of Hurricane Helene. Brejot describes the first church service he attended after the storm and the sense of community he felt. Brejot also addresses rumors that the federal government isn't doing enough to assist hurricane victims: "Those people who are spreading rumors aren't here."
I am north of Asheville, lots of devastation around. I am grateful for the help from churches. It is amazing to see the love being shared. So much kindness. Our communities started clearing first thing Saturday morning to help one another....since after the first few days there have been countless people here. I have cried several times at the meer presence of many, many prayers being answered by people from other areas coming to help.
Our town was under water from Hurricane Ike. The first couple of weeks there were volunteers everywhere and it was so appreciated, but after that you kind of feel abandoned. I hope that people keep on giving for as long as it is needed. God bless from Southeast Texas

I think that it’s wonderful that the churches are helping each other out and making sure that everyone has what they need and that too is what Jesus Christ taught that you love one another and you are feeding His children both grown and growing up and it warms my heart to see them helping each other it’s all God’s love spreading love for one another
I pray 🙏🏽 for the victims of hurricane 🌀 Helene and hurricane 🌀 Milton who are going through a lot of distress and pandemonium from the aftermath and effects of the hurricanes. It's uplifting and encouraging to see and know that people from different church congregations are gathering together to help those who are in need of aid desperately. The Lord is helping the people through all of their struggles and He is still at work, that is for certain.

Nothing under God is perfect but people and the church are there to help. Remember this when you hear something negative about either one.

As native of North Carolina, mountain people have always helped each other because of isolation of some areas.
Times we have to come together to assist those in need

Survivor guilt is real and it’s something I had immediately, and still do. Im only 2 towns over from waynesville, I’m going to see what I can do to help. I do believe it’s important for folks to know this will be years, so it’s important to keep this in the news. It concerns me that they are saying only about 1% of insurance claims will be paid (no flood insurance, there wasn’t a reason to have it in most cases). The insurance says landslides are from rain and rain is flood. That’s very concerning to me.
It isn't surprising though is it? Pay for years then you need it and you are denied or under paid. Same for car insurance.
ThT right. I can see it now, rates skyrocket here, making it even more difficult to afford to live here. Insurance already keeps going up. One year I asked why such a jump and they said all the bad storms in Florida. I can’t wait for them to say all the claims here in NC. There might be a lot of claims- but there’s no $ going out. Didn’t cost them anything, in great scheme of things.

Prayers for the aid workers. Prayers for the victims of the flood. This is the absolute best help available for these communities.
The government is too regulated & wasteful & slow to move to get the job done efficiently. They are fearful & too pushy of locals. All about control, not about help.

Thanks for this accurate interview of what I witnessed when I was able to get into Black Mountain as soon as a road from TN was opened. Being there was I emotional and eye opening when a person realizes this will be a landmark event.

The churches and all our local charities and WNC Air Museum are all collecting donations for anyone that needs help. It started on day one and continues on. If you need it they will try to get it to you. People are picking up and taking things to those who can't drive or get in. Anytime I see the critics who find one person that complains I tell them if they are not here do not spread rumors. God Bless Everyone.

I LOVE how locals, outsiders, charities, and governments work together! Reminded me of my military days! Sad that local republican and democrat elected leaders, who know best, said partisan conspiracy rumors were hurting rescue efforts. Whatever happened to support our troops? PS I've looked at many videos from those there. Of course help can't get to every person fast enough. Of course some bad instances. One sheriff got in the way. An army helicopter accidently flew close to supplies and a report is being made. But other rumors were contradicted. Musk thanked Buttigieg for correcting his confusion between FAA and FEMA. And several rumors were nonsense like the government made the hurricane (they are natural but the unnaturally heated Gulf of Mexico makes them worse). America is great when we work together. Thanks.
Please look into geoengineering and weather manipulation. It's been a thing for many decades. Go find the patents. Go find LBJ's 1962 speech talking about it. "Those who can control the weather control the world". Weather manipulation was used during the Vietnam war. It's well known fact that Nexrad Dopler radar can be used to direct weather systems. Please look into it before you call it nonsense.

Just listened to her describing that boy crying out to Jesus before being swept away....and his mother calling him a hero (at around 17 or 18 min mark)....but she didn't say if he survived the flood or not!!! Anybody know any more info about this? So sad.

You obviously haven't been keeping up. NC has got loads of FEMA and people from other organizations such as Fire and Rescue, Red Cross, Volunteer org. Some people aren't accepting help because of the false information put out by the members of the Republican party that they have to give something back to get help.
So many can't just "write a check" but can send items on credit and pay it off over the next few months. Please put out LISTS OF SPECIFIC ITEMS for the public.
Forget Halloween. We don't need to give gifts for Christmas! We can offer thanks for Jesus, have worship services and plays, gather together for food and fellowship, and sing Christmas songs. That's more meaningful. No greed. No excessive spending. No going into more debt. And we focus more on the Lord and each other instead of santa and things. So much better than the commercialized holiday. God will bless it.

Houses of Worship and Churches should help and assist, it's the mantel that they espouse. Also, Churches are Tax Exempt so they should have much more immediate resources available IMMEDIATELY. Any Government Agency and Military takes time and logistics no matter how fast, they simply are not in the immediate area of need.

I’ve looked for a count of missing persons. I found a report of 1400 missing
Yeah, there's a facebook group keeping track of people reported missing. Not sure of the count but it's around 2000. IMO, first response needs to be faster. The first several days or week after a disaster like this is not when you begin to plan and organize, show up and begin figuring out how you are going to manage this. I am sure there were people caught up in the debris or in crushed houses or vehicles who perished there because help did not come soon enough.
