This is without a doubt one of the greatest video recordings ever made. John Ogdon was such a terrific and sadly under appreciated pianist
not underappreciated, just underreported
Splendid: many, many thanks.
Highly captivating and brilliant performance; although it is not one of my favorite pieces but I couldn't stop watching the video over and over again. Besides being a great virtuoso, John Ogdon was a great musician❤❤❤
Outrageously fine playing. Possessed, as it should be!
John Ogdon was a brilliant pianists. In this Liszt piece he takes us up to the angels and down to the inferno.
Unbelievable playing, the dialogue he achieves at 8:30 is such a joy to listen to.
thank god for youtube
Interestingly, JO once said that there were only 5 piano pieces really worth playing.
I do not usually think much of Ogdon's playing - but - I find lots to enjoy here.
lol
Completely eerie haunting & searching reading of a piece too easily reduced to b-movie horror. True though, the black & white helps........
If if remember well, the original version had atrocious audio distortion. The playing is awesome.
Surely Liszt somehow gave his hands a heart attack.
