Hi Whitney! I just wanted to let you know that your videos are awesome. You inspired me to go back to school and become a RDH. I’m now almost finished with my prerequisites and applying for the program this winter!
Honestly, when I was most apprehensive about DH, your vids made me feel a lot better about pursuing Hygiene as a career. I’m now in DH school going for my associates and it doesn’t even feel real
Thank you so much! This video was very informative. I am currently taking prerequisite classes for the dental hygiene program at a local community college. I already work in the healthcare field as a phlebotomist, and I love it, but I want to continue my education and give dental hygiene a try.
I'm currently taking courses at a community college to obtain an associate's degree in science. I then plan to transfer to another school to get my associate's degree in dental hygiene. The associate's degree in science covers all my prerequisites for the dental hygiene program. I really like how it is playing out so far so I thought I'd share in case someone else is going to a cc that may offer a degree in science, but not dental hygiene, like me :)
I’m still quite young, but im around the age where I’m starting to think about career paths! Ever since I was 12 I have always wanted to be some sort of dentist, and these videos really help me to see what it’s all about 😊
Thank you for this video! I’m 28, worked in the Postal and realized it’s not for me. And now I’m going to go straight back to school for Dental Hygiene and I’m going all in on this. Wish me luck! And thank you for the information!
My situation is a very interesting one I think, I'm on my last semester to get my bachelor's in computer science with a focus on IT, but I'm sort of having doubts about the work culture of that industry. The intense, take-your-work-home-with-you style that exists in some companies really doesn't sit well with me because I want time for hobbies and learning more about my field, which may be very difficult in that environment. I'm considering applying to dental hygiene associate's programs if I find I don't like tech, how do you think they'd see a computer science degree? 😂
It's a hard decision for me, I've been considering this for a while now. I'm currently a full time dental assistant, so if I do decide to go to dental hygiene school it'll be a full time long term commitment. No breaks in between semesters, I guess I'll feel burnout, stressed, overwhelmed. This is what's holding me back from pursuing it.
Ive been doing DA for 6 months now, I mean it's decent job but I don't feel like dealing with rude doctors like working chairside with them and little pay for so much duties. So im thinking about becoming a RDH but working is kinda holding me back too because im tryna move out but at the same time I dont want to be burnt out, might leave DA job and do security while I get my degree, idk , it's a lot of planning we gotta do lol.
If you take suggestions for videos, please make one comparing how different sugar free chewing gums affect the Ph of the mouth. I use Wrigley's extra but no litmus paper, thank you
I'm 47 and looking for a complete career change. Was in the education field for 24 years. I'm looking at the accelerated schools but am unsure if I'm too old lol
Hi Whitney would you ever make a video about sore lymph nodes. I have what seems like a blocked parotid gland. Eating food will randomly give a sharp shooting pain. I get random flare ups since I was 10-12. No answers from dentists. 😔It’s been over ten years and it won’t go away
Thank you for this great video! So I’m 21 always wanted to become a dental hygienist but I’ve been discouraged since it’s seen as more of a female ran industry. Is there a lot of male RDH’s? I’m currently in a dental assistant program with a month left, so I’m looking into working as a RDA during hygiene school. I’m going for the Bachelors in Nursing with a AAS for Health Science then going into dental hygiene school. How does that sound?
males can be hygienists too! here's my video more about that: ua-cam.com/video/KDihT51ObDU/v-deo.html hope this helps! wishing you the best toothy journey!
IMPORTANT QUESTION: do you recommend me getting a public health degree at my community college before going to a program just in case the program doesn't work out and I'm left with nothing ?
From my experience, a PH bachelor's degree is very limited with job options. I worked in a community health worker role at a hospital and half of my coworkers did not have a college degree. I have also seen people in manager roles without a bachelor however those individuals either have been in the company for a long time or had various leadership roles. I enjoy PH so I am doing my PH Master's in the meantime I finish my pre-reqs for hygiene.
@@TeethTalkhey I have a question how long does it take for tartar to reach heart which leads to heart disease I wanna know cuz i have a buildup of tartar and it’s scaring me

Hi Whitney ! I wanted you to know that I m a foreign trained dentist and I m intrested in becoming a dental hygienist in United States could you guide me on that ?
Hi whitney, i am a senior in high school and extremely interested in becoming a dentist/dds but the debt is worrying me, is there a way i can help not stress about it and learn to pay it if i loan it?
hi, just a fellow commenter but i am also a senior in hs and considering being a dental hygienist! options for less debt are local community colleges, scholarships, grants, etc. you can also possibly work in your school and they will lesson your tuition a bit. being a dental hygienist only requires an associates which is a 2 year degree so if you do go to a community college, there really won’t be too much debt. dental hygienists also tend to get paid decently so you shouldn’t have too much on your shoulders paying debt off if you do happen to get a lot of it
trade schools aren't available for dental hygienists, however there are certificate programs for dental assisting that can be completed in under a year. hope this helps!
to become a dental hygienist, there is no online schooling since clinic is a large portion of the program. if you already have an in-person associate degree in dental hygiene, some bachelor’s programs offer a pathway to continue your education online and earn a bachelor’s degree. watch my free video checklist to learn more: bit.ly/rdh-video-checklist hope this helps!
Nope! I graduated with my Bachelors in Dental Hygiene and have worked in a pediatric office then switched to a general dental office. It’s just preference where you want to work!

I asked my dental lady doing my cleaning if she got her dental hygiene degree and she said she is only a medical assistant. Is that normal? She told me doctor don't really hire dental hygienist anymore.
@@dwise2165 North Hollywood CA. It seemed odd to me . Not to mention, the Dr did not do X-rays until I requested at the end. His excuse was that he took them 6 months ago lol
Biology is a foundational subject for understanding the human body, which is essential for a career in dental hygiene. Dental hygienists need to know how oral health connects to overall health, how diseases work, and how different systems in the body interact. For example, understanding microbiology helps in identifying and managing oral infections, and anatomy is critical for knowing the structures of the mouth and teeth. It's all about providing safe, effective care with a solid understanding of the science behind it! 😊 Hope this helps!
