Since you mentioned Aliens vs Predator, watching Predator 2 will provide you some insight as to why those two franchises were mushed together.
Personally I think Predator 2 is even better because it has Danny Glover.
@Jennifer Jones predator 2 is a good sequel and way better than what would later follow but it's not as the original
Great sequel - adds a lot more to the Pred lore & hunters code too
@@jenniferjones2863 He was too old for it.
@@jenniferjones2863 Danny Glover couldn't save a movie that was rushed simply to get it out and the studio didn't want to wait for Arnold to be done with T2.
9:10 “You’re an expendable asset. And I used you to get the job done. Got it?”
Arnold: “My men are not expendable, and I don’t do this kind of work..”
25 years later: The Expendables 2
Apollo creed is Rocky's friend remember 😂😂.
Co Bao : Rambo , you're not expendable
Proceeds to make Expendables series
Many reactors like to hear themselves talk, throwing in lots of useless banter along the way instead of paying attention. You saved your thoughts for afterwards (well researched too) and kept your input minimal during the film. Job well done, very impressed with this reaction.
Not to dunk on your comment too much, because I agree with it to a point, but part of the reason they might talk so much, especially over what might seem like important parts of the movie, is because UA-cam's filters will blank out the audio if they leave too much of the original movie, or just take it down altogether if it's not changed enough. So it sucks because we'd definitely get better reactions if that wasn't the case.
@@hellomark1true. I’ve seen so many reactors miss things in the movies because they’re talking
@@hashbrown4278I find that really annoying. Sometimes I yell at the screen telling them to “shut up, you’re missing some important dialogue here”. 😂
@@hellomark1
Yeah, unless they're xqc, reactors kinda have to say *something*. Otherwise, it's not really a reaction, but instead piracy
This movie is gold because it's simple. It doesn't try to sell you a moral lesson or anything, it's just kill or be killed. 13th Warrior is a movie that comes close.
I also liked 13th Warrior but I like this movie even better because the story is even more stripped down to the essentials, also the reveal of the Wendol seems a bit mundane in comparison while the Predator also looks pretty scary when you actually see it for the first time. Apart from that, the visual effects are also very well done for the time.
@@schroedingers_kotze 13th Warrior is more grounded. Predator is an alien, Wendol are supposedly Neanderthals, so a tinge more believable.
Absolutely.... im trying to think of any sort of messages or social commentary....if you find ANY dont deny that you really had to dig deep.
@@fattyjaybird7505 The message is "Yargl..."
@@immortaljanus er.." GET TO THE CHOPPAA!!!"
One thing I love about Predator is that it's a slasher movie, but instead of teens, it's the toughest, manliest men getting picked off one by one
...and Shane Black.
@@southlondon86 that's why he goes first haha
@@bandgeek20 But normally the virgin survives to the end.
FUN FACT: The original script had it written that the final fight was supposed to end with Arnold Schwarzenegger killing the Predator and winning the one-on-one hand-to-hand fight, but it was changed at the last minute because Arnold himself was adamant on it and he was realistic enough to know that in a real fight, the Predator not ONLY would've won, but he would've mopped the floor with him (and he's very right to think that as Arnold stands at 6'2 tall while the Predator stands at a gigantic 7'3!)
So the ending was instead changed to Arnold winning the final fight through his wits and traps instead of his brute strength alone.
Even more so, the original script was to have billy(just the character)have the final face off with the predator, but once Arnold signed on, everything changed.
@@GeorgeTropicana You're familiar with the concept of weight divisions in sport fighting right?
Because even the most skilful 130lber would get ripped apart by someone weighing 220lbs plus..
To pretend that size has no effect on fighting ability is idiotic.
@@jerbil9353 Very true, and it goes into more than just weight. But yeah being over a foot taller and probably much heavier is a massive advantage.
@@jerbil9353 Depends if that 130lber 'skillful' fighter is an idiot and fights his opponent in the same manner, the 220lbs would definitely have an advantage, but only if he utilizes that advantage. Sports fights are completely different to street fights, sport fights or matches are designed to enhance the advantage of a weight class. Whereas in a real fight, anything goes to level the playing field. I don't pretend that size has no effect on fighting ability, but to think a 130lber would get ripped apart by a 220lbs in a street fight clearly shows you haven't seen many, because I've seen all sorts of sizes knock each other out (visit the UK on a weekend).
To think sports matches are like real fights is idiotic. Just saying.
the people who make movies are so fucking stupid. You are gonna make a titanic alien that big, and say arnold could beat it hand to hand lol. They're so delusional.
I liked how Hawkins kept telling Billy those crude p*ssy jokes, but when he caught Anna as she tried to escape, he literally pleaded with her to stop because he didn't want to use force on her. Bill Duke doesn't get enough credit for his acting making Mac so scary and intimidatinging with Dillon yet so heartfelt and touchingly sad over Blaine's death. I also liked the nods to Billy's Native American heritage and its implied historical connection to the Predators (though the novel actually comes right out and says that when Billy decided to make his last stand, he was thinking of his ancestors who had been killed by Predators). I thought those touches gave the characters more depth and compexity than you'd expect in the average action movie.
I saw that too. A mild notion that I dare say many folks saw :)
Absolutely. Effective characterisation and great performances for the genre
Well that makes 'Prey' all the more interesting.
@@Where_is_Waldo I was gonna say the same thing. I didn't know this connection existed even after I watched Prey. Whhoossh.
Without knowing any connection or lore, and him being a native American, I saw a simplified explanation. He felt hunted and knew the predator was close. He just didn't want to die running like a preyed upon animal would. Meet and clash as warriors to avoid bringing shame or a lower position in the afterlife, whatever. I'm not a fan of the lore using him like a token native and having paranormal superpowers. We get enough typical portrayals like that.
Amazingly, Kevin Peter Hall was the shortest of I think 5 brothers. Predator 2 was his final film appearance, he knew he was dying but he asked Stan Winston for one more chance to reprise the role of the Predator, and Winston bent over backwards to make it happen.
An interesting note of Billy's decision to face the Predator is, when he cuts his own chest, he's using an old warrior tradition of denying your enemy the honor of drawing first blood. He really did go out on his own terms in that regard, and that's why the Predator took his skull and spine. He was so impressed with Billy choosing to face him, knowing he couldn't win.
And you're 100% correct, the Predator wasn't imitating Dutch, he was asking Dutch what he was to have defeated him.
'Old Painless' was an actual, real working Minigun. What's funny about it is that before its first Test Firing they were worried that it would break its dolly & starting rotating (and FIring!) wildly in all directions. So there was a great deal of initial trepidation.
However, what they found is that the rotation of the barrels actually set up a rock-like centripetal force that made the gun extremely stable & the problem was MOVING it. ^_^
Excellent & thoughtful review Young Lady. It's always a pleasure to see the younger generations appreciate these gems of film history.
Two scenes made this movie the classic it is. When the Predator stops to do first aid, showing that it's no simple monster but intelligent and well equipped, and when it faces off with Arnold and you see that it's HUGE. We need more movies like this
Well when he uses plasma cannon - that also shows he intelligent and well equipped.=)
Real moment - when he understands Dutch lure him into trap - that shows predator is smart. Not extreme - he still get caught into second level trap but still.
Also he smart enought to self-destruct so humans cannot salvage his body and technology.
"Two scenes made this movie the classic it is."
I think there's more to it than just two scenes.
@Bloody KGB One small error: there was no second level trap. The hanging log was the counterweight for the spiked trap. The log was never meant as a weapon itself. Dutch lucked out.
Looking good, Dutch.
The big face-off with the Predator was almost completely different. In the original script, Dutch would have beaten the Predator very easily. Arnold said to the director, "This doesn't make any sense. He's an alien monster, I'm just a man." Any other action star at that time would have been happy to be overpowered, but Arnold knew the right way to sell both of these characters.
After you said it I realized how hilarious it would of been to have the Predator smiling and giving a thumbs up during the end credits.
That early village attack scene reminds me how much I've missed real explosions in movies. With real stuntmen in the middle of them.
Your recaps are extremely thorough and well thought out. I very much enjoy listening to all the extra leg work you put in behind the scenes and want to say it doesn't go unnoticed. Thanks for not only watching the movies, but giving extra insight after the fact.
Thank you so much!
@@Whimsory I appreciate the dedication to doing research into the films you watch and enjoy your analysis at the end. Keep up the great work. Looking forward to watching many more movies with you.
Preditor is one of my favorites, I have watched it 100 times, haha. You did tell me something I didn't know about it at the end. I like the time you take at the end, I can't emagen the amount of time you take to do it. Keep it up. I enjoy the fact that you enjoy these movies and take the time to really understand them.
@@draweme05 I'm not trying to be mean, genuinely just trying to help: "imagine".
Your face during the predator face reveal was absolute gold.
I think everyone agrees with Dutch ... "you're one ugly MFer" ...
The language the Predator learns is his interpretation of what the sentences mean in the context that they're used.
"Anytime" is associated with the dying scorpion.
"Over here" and "turn around" is calling someone over.
"What the hell are you" is what his opponent says as he stands over his dying body. Which could be interpreted as "I win", "You lose", or "Die", which he throws right back in Dutch's face as he arms the self destruct.
And the laugh is Billy's laugh.
This script is way more intelligent than most people realize. The Predator's character development may not be obvious, but it's there.
“If it bleeds, we can kill it”
One of my favourite action movie quotes. Predator has to be one of my favourite movies of all time, my dad saw this in cinemas when it first came out and then the first time I watched it , I watched it with him. We bought th laughed at Arnine’s one liners
All through highschool my friends and I were overuse the "GET TO DA CHOPPAH" quote :)
I'm partial to "What is this fucking tie business"
Your ending deep dives are becoming legendary.
Its getting to the point where you can tell us more about the movie than we can tell you and that's pretty impressive.
Deep dives and post analysis is what I look for, not just live reaction.
These reviews are detailed, insightful, and immaculately pieced together. I watch a few other reactors, but I never watch their reviews. @Whimsory is the only one who is intriguing enough to listen to the review.
I might have already complimented you on this before, but I have to give props to your editing. For someone that hasn't seen a bunch of movies you have a great feel for what scenes to keep in for these edited down versions of film. Nice job :)
I try not to leave anything meaningful/important/funny out! Thank you so much for noticing, I really appreciate that🤗
I agree! Too many of these movie reactions are edited extremely poorly and end up leaving out the best or more meaningful parts. I think a good rule of thumb here is to see if you can follow the plot of the movie well, even in the edited-down version. If you can, the editing is good.
@@Whimsory 👍 :D
Agreed. She has a keen eye for keeping the key scenes and flow.

Well done.
Nice job.

In case it hasn't already been mentioned, the man who played the Predator (the late great Kevin Peter Hall) was also the black helicopter pilot at the end of the movie AND also played the Bigfoot "Harry" in "Harry And The Hendersons"...a fun movie for your consideration.
Harry & the Hendersons is such a great movie.
@@emmabauer1906 An instant CLASSIC, in my book. 🐵👍
@@danielhaynes2373 so funny.
My favorite movie growing up, I used to watch it over and over at night, couldn't fall asleep unless it was playing. It has a unique way of drawing you in slowly one way, then BAM, totally setting off in a whole new direction, from war movie to sci-fi just like that. You first see an invisible/hazy apparition, thinking it's some dumb, primitive animal. Then he appears with a first aid kit repairing himself, giving rise to a whole new sentient, intelligent hunter, a spine-tingling introduction to one of Sci-Fi's greatest characters, making a game and mincemeat out of 6 of the finest special forces soldiers on Earth. Soldiers that decimated an entire village of guerilla mercenaries easily and without injury and he could have easily killed Arnold as well but wanted to slowly play and destroy him hand to hand, under estimating man's ability to think, plan, and survive by any means necessary. Your reaction was terrific, you are truly 1 of a kind, smart and beautiful, with a great personality, you carry yourself and express yourself so well, find a career in presentations, you do it so well. I hope you never lose that sweetness, perkiness, and freshness you have, it's so endearing and refreshing to see in today's world. On a side note, a lot of actors go into politics cuz it's all about acting, pretending to be someone you're not, someone for the people, an all-around good person striving for the betterment of others. When in reality their the crookedest, lying, manipulative, and most corrupt people on the planet, obsessed with wealth, power, and controlling others.
So this is one of the rare action/horror movie. It starts pretty action like, classic Arnold movie but quickly turns to horror as the predator stalks each highly trained solider. And at the end Arnold's subtlety in his looks.. It's not the face of a victor, but of someone with PTSD and has seen so many horrors. It's not shown often in action movies but Dutch looks legitimately traumatized
I love the predator. It's an horror movie disguised as an action movie. It's really an classic slasher
movie if you think about it
Mmhmm it's amplified by the fact, these guys aren't some stupid teenagers. These are some of the best soldiers in the world and they still don't stand a chance some how. If that's not scary against a monster, not sure what it is. A lot scarier than someone picking off unarmed teens honestly
Totally a stealth slasher hiding in an action movie 👍 After the guerrillas are done to show how badass our team is, they become prey for the Predator until Arnie is our 'final girl' who wins with brains.
I wouldn't say so, a classic slasher features generally defenseless victims whereas the predator specifically targets killers.
The new Predator movie I havent seen😢 I never knew that the movie exists because he has an other name
PREY
But maybe he is a good one
Movie called just "The Predator" or Predator Ubgrade in germany is my favorite one too. The oneliner are awesome
and Thomas Jane too
@@aruruaurynwolferson9713 IMO Prey is the best Predator movie since the first one.
When I was like 6, in the time of VCRs lol, I recorded this movie straight off of cable. Even paused the recording during the commercials so they'd be cut out😂. Then I watched it literally every day when I got home from school for like 2 months straight. I knew and still know the movie scene for scene, line for line. My all time favorite.
Wow!
Sir your parents let you do that at age 6? Respect to them! 🔥 I had to sneak in to the next room to watch glimpses of Terminator 2 on cable before running out upon hearing footsteps coming up the stairs.
@@southlondon86 LOL, I had 2 brothers, me being the middle. My mom was willing to let us do just about anything not dangerous, if it meant we were gonna be busy, and not driving her crazy.
Fantastic!!!
I always enjoy hearing your breakdown of the characters at the end. I really like Mac's development the most. He goes from being a scary, intimidating guy who threatens to kill Dillon to falling apart completely after Blain's death.
Here's a spoiler-free timeline of the order these movies come out, since you asked in the post-movie thoughts: Predator > Predator 2 > Alien vs Predator > Alien vs Predator: Requiem > Predators > The Predator > Prey
You are the only reactor I have seen whom I believe actually has never seen the movies they watch.
This is THE definite action movie of the 80s imo.

Action movie? Don't you mean Sci-Fi movie? Or did you mean Slasher movie? That's that makes it so good, it's all of them!
I love Predator. The the use of the musical score by the director is top notch. Predator as a film is part slasher and part psychological horror. There is so much gore and physical mutilation with intense battle scenes mixed - with themes such a fear of the unknown, the unseen, and the uncertainty.
Dillon’s death scene is a personal favorite. The director’s delivers the audience into a nightmare scenario.
Die Hard retains the title of greatest action flick of all time but it should be no surprise that after all… they share the same director and composer.
Love your commentary at the end, you carry yourself as someone who knows a ton about filmmaking (even if you say you don't 😅), or at least someone who knows how to enjoy what they are watching. The music in this one is legendary, great that you connected to it so well. Cheers!
Thank you so much!🤗
Alan Silvestri did the music. He’s arguably best known for the music he composed for the _Back to the Future_ trilogy.
Jesse Ventura was a member of a Naval demolitions team in Vietnam, later became a successful professional wrestler and at the end of his career became a color commentator, about the same time he got into acting. After that, he went into politics, eventually becoming the Governor of Minnesota for four years (1999-2003)...Arnold ALSO went into politics and became the Governor of California in the early 2000's. Just some fun little factoids for you.
The man who played the Predator passed away.
There was a video of the people who worked on the Predator movie and they all talked about what a kind man and dedicated actor he was.
He would be in the Predator suit for hours and how hot it was at the filming location and never complained.
Jesse Ventura who played Blaine.
He was a Navy SEAL, a pro wrestler (WWE wrestling, not the actual sport wrestling) prior to making this movie and he was then governor of Minnesota after making this movie.
The man who played the Predator had 2 roles. He also played the chopper pilot at the end who said "what the f..." when he saw the mushroom cloud.
2 future governor's in this movie
@@joetroncoso7292 I don't know if it's true or not, but I saw in the comments of another Predator reaction that the guy who played Billy ran for governor of a state too (Kentucky maybe? I don't remember which state they said). But he lost.
Edit: Whimsory said it during the discussion at the end. I typed this while the discussion was in progress. Shame on me.
The man who played the predator was Kevin Peter Hall, and yes, he passed away just a few short years ago.
@@corvus1970 Kevin Peter Hall passed away in 1991 or 1992. Been awhile, but still missed, and always a legend!
I was having a crappy day, until I saw a new Whimsory video pop up in my feed, and I clicked it, and I heard the familiar "Hiya! How ya doin?" ...and I already feel better. :) Having the rest of the video to watch is just a bonus!
This makes me so happy! But I'm sorry you had a bad day. Tomorrow will be better; hang in there!🤗
Most of these older movies are before my time but I still grew up watching them because of my dad. It's pretty fun watching someone discover them for the first time. Couldn't help but laugh at the smirk from the one liners. There are so many classics from the 70s, 80s and 90s! I hope you enjoy.
One of the most sought out Alan Silverstri scores back in the day. His score to the sequel(which is my favorite Alan Silverstri film score) is AWESOME, the percussions are just insane.
Movies around this time were near the peak of practical effects, so a lot of the movie still holds up after all these years.
When Jesse Ventura got into Predator the WWF made a big hub bub about it, played his clips during shows and whatnot. He was one of the first to hit it "big" in the movies.
Billy is a native warrior who is very spiritual. In his last stand, he takes the spirit bag which he holds around his neck, and raps it around his fighting hand. He then cuts his chest to show his courage and to deny his enemy first blood.
PREDATOR ( 1987) IS A MASTERPIECE. Arnold Schwarzenegger's Best Role in a Survival Film and the Most Iconic Alien Hunter Ever Seen in a Film.
You’re slowly becoming one of my favorite reaction channels! I think you’re going to have a bright future in the first time reaction community where you could potentially get recognized by other reactors and maybe collab in one of their videos some day! Keep up the great work!
Reaction community? Who are you the Mayor? She doesn't need to be "recognised" by anyone, she's not an apprentice
I know you're only picking movies in the imdb top 250, but I recommend watching Prey. It was released last year. It's a prequel that injects a completely different flavor in the best way possible. There isn't any specific connection to the franchise aside from one small callback at the end which I will not spoil for you.
Airplane and Predator aren’t on that list so looks like high request movies will also get picked. Works for me. There are some movies on that top 250 list that aren’t so great imho.
They mention in Predator 2 that this first movie takes place in Guatemala. Along with that, Predator 2 is just one of those sequels that is actually really well done; not to mention, it’s the whole reason why the Aliens vs Predator franchise exists.
I was lucky enough to visit the Predator filming location in 2015. It's now a zip-line tourist attraction just outside of Puerto Vallarta. The enemy base camp seen at 8:15 is now a restaurant next to the river. They even have a life-sized statue of the Predator there!
Great final analysis. You're right, the music is excellent. Alan Silvestri also composed the music for Back to the Future, The Polar Express, Cast Away, Avengers, among other great productions. Truly one of the best composers in Hollywood
Predator is such a blast. The whole Aliens vs Predator idea came from a certain movie as a fun Easter egg that then spawned a whole Extended Universe of comics and novels such as Alien VS Predator. Many of these comics are set in the future featuring the Colonial Marines who you know from Aliens so pretty much picture the film Aliens but add a Predator into the mix and that's some of the comics. The movies though aren't seen as canonical to the Alien or Predator movies as the Prequal Alien movies introduced new lore that clashed with the lore introduced in the first Alien Vs Predator film. But the idea of both existing in the same universe is still very much true the two AVP movies just happened to clash with new lore.

Hello again! Just a small, non-spoilery note about "Alien vs, Predator: Requiem," I see a lot of people complain that it is very dark (as in actual light level, not tone), but if you punch up the brightness just a bit, it improves the viewing experience dramatically. Personally, AvP2 is one of my guilty pleasure movies. I have fun just getting a bowl of popcorn and settling in for the ride. 😄 Hope your day has been and continues to be great!
RIP Carl Weathers

Want a break from sci-fi but still see Arnie in action? "Commando" (1985) or "Conan The Barbarian" (1982) are two of his best movies IMHO
Great reaction, really enjoyed watching. See you next time 😉🤗
"Commando" also happens to have Bill Duke in it! 😀
And total recall.
@@patinho5589 That's actually a Sci-fi but a great movie nonetheless.
@@steveross8364 ahh good point :)
I'm old enough to remember when this movie was released. 35 years later, and surprisingly, the movie is still good!
The guy with the chew in his mouth is the legend Jesse "The Body" Ventura, he was a WWE superstar wrestler back in the 90's, he had many battles with Hulk Hogan. He was a heel, and a great one, he was also a legend on the mic, doing commentary with Vince McMahon and Bobby "The Brain" Heenan. His best line was I aint got time to bleed.
The costume Van Damme wore was actually very different and very goofy looking. Thankfully the filming took a break and they got Stan Winston who did the effects for Terminator and Aliens before this gave the suit a complete redesign into the one we see and of course they hired Kevin Peter Hall to wear it when they began to shoot the movie again. There is footage you can find on here of what the original suit looked like, or at least the all red version they used to be able to put the invisible effect over in post-production. Apparently Van Damme didn't understand the all red was for that reason and thought that it was going to be bright red in the actual movie.
Haha liked the cat jump scare you did there 24:13 right after the reveal of the skulls of our case of characters. Made me chuckle.
I highly recommend Apocalypse Now. It's a really special and different war move that takes place in Vietnam. such an extraordinary film.
I love the duality of Mac. He goes from being the eerie quiet guy that whispers threats to you to snapping upon seeing his friend die and picking up the noisiest gun..
No need to apologize for watching what you want to watch btw.
I’m in love with classic action movies, that is golden era of the movies
I've seen this movie so many times and Dutch's battle cry still gives me chills to this day. Also, "If it bleeds, we can kill it," still one of the best movie lines ever. Also one of the greatest creature designs. Thank you Stan Winston and your crew
Thanks Whimsory! Another fun reaction. The thing I love most about this movie is the pace at which they reveal the predator. It kind of reminds me of the way Spielberg reveals Jaws. You start with nothing and gradually show more and more until the final full reveal at the end. It's a constant series of surprises because your mind is filling in the blanks along the way. Great tactical filmmaking.
Also for the same reason, with Spielberg - the shark wasn't ready, McTiernan - Predator wasn't ready - so they got creative.
Predator mimicking and taunting Dutch's men is not only intimidating 😳 but downright scary! Especially when the Predator uses Billy's laugh at the end of the film before the Predator nuked himself! -OG

Whimsory, this movie is awesome! I'm glad you're reacting to it!
I love your post-editing movie review when you gave yourself time to really digest the movies and research different things that you are curious about, it is very interesting to hear your takes on everything!
What made Predator intriguing and especially unique as a movie monster was that it had a code, an ethic. It didn't hunt mindlessly, so it didn't take pregnant females or terminally ill prey, it wanted a proper challenge.
"Predator" was unique. There were so many military/mercenary/special ops movies at this time. All with lots of muscles and little plot. This movie just made a hard turn and went full in on SciFi. A classic.
The 80's was a good time for movies.
So glad to see a new face of movie reaction community, love your reaction! Keep it up.
I really hope people get to recommend movies like The Fly (86), Robocop (87), The Blob (88). Seeing the reaction to the Thing, Predator and The Terminator, I think make those movies excellent recommendations. Hope to see those reactions in the future. 😁
If there's a single thing I'd take out of the movie it's that opening shot with the ship passing by Earth. The twist that an alien is hunting them would have a greater impact, I think.
Great reaction Whimsory!
This isn't just my favorite Arnold movie but it's in my own personal favorite top 10.
My Dad took me to see this in the theater and I was blown away, it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen (the Predator still remains my favorite alien species, their different but similar looks are all awesomeness sauce)!
You definitely need to watch Predator 2 and Prey (the prequel to the franchise).
I'm so freakin' happy that I discovered your channel, your reactions are entertaining and fun and you seem to genuinely enjoy the movies you've watched.

Many blessings to you and yours.
this is one of my all time favorite films. i love your in depth analysis of each character. and even the soundtrack. i too loved Alan Silverstri's work.
Classic! Watching the scene In the theater unloading their ammo in the jungle toward the Predator was mind blowing, long and loud !
The Yautja is one of the best sci-fi creation of all time, their design is so badass!
Self-proclaimed musician? I love the slow release of Whimsory Lore with every reaction :D
Loved the reaction. Feel like this film does a great job establishing its characters quickly and effectively. You get attached to them even though you don't know that much about them. Can highly recommend Die Hard (1988) for another great, tightly-written action movie by the same director (if you haven't seen it). I always think of these two movies when I think of classic 80's action - they feel related somehow, like cousins.
If no one has told you in a while. You Whimsory are absolutely beautiful. Also thanks for these reactions to all these classic movies.
"I don't want to see that thing's face anymore!"
Funny. That's what people say to me too.
Great reaction ! I love that you always have a great , detailed analysis /recap that is fun and interesting
This was so much fun, I'm glad you watched it and enjoyed it. You should definitely continue with Predator 2! It's different, but still really good and you get a bit more lore about The Predator. You should see this before Alien vs. Predator, for sure.
The easter egg from Alien franchise was my favorite in Predator 2 and the soundfile of the predator at the child
Absolutely underrated movie, not jst a mindless action flick, but a smart, tight, effective thriller with a great mix of horror, suspense and bombast.
Also, your discussion was one of the most insightful and dead-on I've seen, excellent
This is just a classic 80’s action movie. I was 17 when this came out and one day I randomly drove to the theater and just thought “ hey, why not?” I thoroughly enjoyed this then and still do now. 80’s movies: give them what they want.
That's a good look for you right there.
Your reactions to these older movies are second to none. Absolutely love your style and your editing. ❤ Your post watch researching is impeccable. I am so impressed by the obvious intelligence and passion that you approach these reviews.
Fun film from the 80s. Schwarzenegger was so huge with Terminator, Conan the Barbarian, this film, Commando, even working opposite Danny DeVito. Suggestion to add to the list for voting "Ladyhawke" (1985). Super enjoyable film. Cheers.
I like the part where you talk about the special effects, not judging them based on today's technology, and recognizing good work despite the era. I am an older nerd who kind of despairs when I hear (and I have heard, on at least a few occasions) young reactors describe the effects in movie as "the graphics", like a video game, or how the "CGI" in the original Robocop looked kinda dated.
The Predator's laugh at the end was it mimicking Billy's laugh it had recorded earlier.
I definitely remember Harry and the Hendersons. If fact it was released in 1987 just like Predator.. I was 12 and technically a bit too young for Predator, but my Dad took me. I loved it. It was the 80's.
Another movie worth watching from 87 is Robocop.
I wasn't big into wrestling growing up, but friends were. So I remember watching Jesse Ventura wrestle in the 80's
His wrestling name was "Jesse 'The Body' Ventura"
Love your energy Whim. It was so good to see you get right into the action when it kicked off.
Not only is it a great timeless movie, but another amazingly quotable flick.
"... Got'cha pushin' too many pencils?"
"Ain't got time to bleed."
"Bullshit, you ain't afraid of no man" - "something out there, and it ain't no man"
"If it bleeds, we can kill it."
What i love about this film is none of the characters make dumb decisions (including the Predator). They are working with limited information but so does the audience.
As usual, a great presentation and post film analysis of a Science Fiction phenomenon! Kudos to Whimsory!
Enjoyed your reaction. Thank you. I have always thought Bill Duke came close to dominating or stealing every scene he was in. It was a terrific performance.
Always felt the Predator saying "What the hell are you?" back to Dutch, with the emphasis on the "you", was a reply to Dutch basically morally condemning him indicating he does not see any difference between them. Just a thought.
Oooh that's interesting. I didn't think of that! And I definitely agree with the first part of your comment also--very captivating performance! Thank you for your perspective😊
Fun fact. The creature designer was working on the Predator design while catching a flight. He happened to be sitting next to James Cameron whose contribution was the Predators mouth and mandibles. Another tidbit.. Alien versus Predator is totally a fan creation, one could say. It started as a comic that saw minor success, but then a VERY popular arcade game came out 'Alien vs. Predator'. The hype reached the point it could justify a movie. If you thought this movie is full of testosterone, the set was even more so. All the muscle guys were super competitive (friendly). There was a gym on set and they basically squeezed in filming between workouts and challenging each other. lol
“Now is not the time to get naked!” LOL
Your interpretation of the alien repeating Dutch’s words, “What the hell are you” as not just mimicking, but confusion due to a human actually defeating him, was very insightful.
Twice the governors, twice the fun!
The Predator is such a classic, glad you liked it. I thought it was nice that you took the time to honor Kevin Peter Hall. He also starred in the short lived series "The Misfits of Science" as a human, out of costume. He was part of a group of people with super powers. Ironically his power was the ability to shrink to a very small size.
I'm glad they didn't reveal too much about the Predator in this movie. They say less is more. It's true. The less you know about the Predator, the scarier he becomes. But it works twofold. The less we know about the Predator, the more we want to know know more about the Predator.
Perhaps this is one of the reasons why this franchise has such a significant fan base and following. And why this film is considered a great cult classic! -OG
Fun fact, due to Kevin Peter hall spending so much time in the predator suit in the blistering mexican heat, the helicopter pilot that said "what the" is Kevin, the guy in the predator costume. They wanted to give him a screen role without the suit on.
RIP Kevin.
Whimsory, great review, really love your reactions. Another great flick with Arnold is "Conan The Barbarian", based off books and comics. One of Arnolds early films that has one of the best musical scores ever created. Give it a watch.
John Milius did incredible work with Arnie considering how poor his English was at the time.
I absolutely second this. Conan is a must see.
Personally, while Conan the Barbarian had the better plot, I had more fun with Conan the Destroyer. I hope if she reacts to the first one, she reacts to both.
John Williams always seems to be everybody's favorite movie music guy, but I always loved Jerry Goldsmith's scores. They always added a lot to the vibe of the atmosphere in his movies with an often unique, eerie feel to the background sound. A few of his best were the original "Planet of the Apes", "Logan's Run" and "Poltergeist". All GREAT movies!
John Williams is a legend and Goldsmith is like a god. This movie is Alan Silvestri and one of the best action movie soundtracks ever. I think he also did Die Hard and a few similar movies
@@rgerber"Die Hard" was Michael Kamen.
Your choice of movies continues to amaze and delight me.
You are the only reactor who's outro and analysis i just LOVE to watch. Your demeanor and the way you articulate your thoughts is intoxicating in the best possible way.
Glad you liked this! A classic, and it holds up!
I love your reactions.
This is not one of my favourite films but it's always fun to see your response. 😂
3:20: Just yesterday, I saw a comic that said the relationship between women is unwarranted compliments, whereas the relationship between men is about unwarranted insults. Haha, so true.
Wow Whimsory nobody can say you don't do your Homework! You taught me stuff about this movie even!
Thank you so much!😊
it's such a remarkable film, just imagine trying to make this film or even trying to sell the idea of it..especially today, impossible, it would be a total disaster, yet they pulled it off and it's amazing, only the 1980's could pull it off, it's amazing what the 80's could make work, the film makers at that time just knew how to use the right balance of humor and gore and violence and drama, such a fun ride
