@@ReligionOfSacrifice, I prefer A New Hope to Empire Strikes Back for a couple of reasons. The main reason is, Empire had a great opening but a dull, almost motionless middle & an exciting end. A New Hope never dipped & was on the go from the opening & had a great conclusion. Those two are the ONLY two perfect Star Wars films though, Revenge is in at 3rd & it's damn close to perfect! The other 4 are good, just not as good. Not including the recent 3 chapters. Not even going to try.............. I also prefer Terminator & Alien to their sequels, although Alien & Aliens are damn close!

    • @ReligionOfSacrifice
      @ReligionOfSacrifice Рік тому +2

@@GGGritzer, I disagree. The beginning and end of "Empire Strikes Back" are great, but there is some amazing worlds being shown throughout the whole movie and the actors are already introduced and are having at it with their relationships and interactions and I think was worth all of it.
Now the 3rd movie would have been good, but it wasn't. It was no where as good as the ending of the original triology. It could have been better if Yoda holding back to see who was the master sith suddenly realizes he has to step in and attack the Emperor to save the universe and they fight which we all were waiting for, but then Jar Jar Binks fights dunken master style with Yoda and when Yoda kills him the lightening goes into the Emperor who is flying away to see Anakin and Yoda suddenly doesn't feel the need to worry about the Empire as Darth Vader will bring balance to the force. Anakin does with Leia as the meddler in politics and Luke as the Jedi trainer.
Then we would know why the lightening approached Darth Vader and then went down the tunnel to the Emperor's dead body. Anakin was not going to be an empty vessel willing to take on possession of the dark force.

Another thing I wonder if people catch on to, is when Kyle is being interrogated in the police station and he goes on saying "He will wade through you" just how prophetic those words ment.
Because the terminator literally waded through the cops like they were just a shallow river. Nothing in that building could stop him
Which just exemplifies the terrifying truth that behind all that flesh hair and blood, is a literal metal killing machine.

One thing people tend to neglect to mention when talking about the Terminator movies is that aside from sci-fi action movies, they're also monster movies. The Terminator is a nigh-unstoppable force of destruction that leaves swathes of death in its wake and that no one can afford to ignore. The first Terminator movie does this best in my opinion, even if T2 might be a better film overall. There's nothing quite like the factory ending, seeing that metal skeleton rise out of the fire and slowly pursue its prey, unmoved by everything including the loss of half its body. Truly a terrifying spectacle.
On another note, I'm glad you're diving into movies. I love television too, but there's something about the movies that has always been extra special to me. While it's true that longform storytelling is harder, many, many films can be just as rich as great TV, with nuanced, evocative storytelling that stays with you.
Some of my favorite movies that I think would be worth checking out that may not be as common suggestions: Amadeus (1984, historical fiction- NOT a biopic- about Mozart and Salieri, with naturally phenomenal music); Double Indemnity (1944, classic noir with brilliant dialogue and perhaps the most archetypal femme fatale in film); The Lion in Winter (1968, historical fiction play adaptation with absolutely brilliant acting from one of the strongest ensembles you'll ever see); Dr. Strangelove (1964, dark comedy about the absurd politics of nuclear war and also Peter Sellers playing three people); Pan's Labyrinth (2006, Spanish language dark fairy tale set during the Spanish Civil War); Mel Brook's three best comedies The Producers (1967), Blazing Saddles (1974- maybe watch this on your own time and don't react to it, and read up on the history of the movie to understand the context behind it), and Young Frankenstein (1974), all hilariously witty; Network (1976, prescient story about showbiz and capitalism with one of the best screenplays ever and ANOTHER of the best acting ensembles you'll ever see); Once Upon a Time in the West (1968, melancholy spaghetti western about the demise of the Old West as the frontier is captured by industry, and one of the most chilling villain performances you'll see from classic good guy actor Henry Fonda)... and many more.
This however is the primer I give to everyone who wants a crash course in the greatest cinema of all time, just to touch the base foundations: The Godfather Part I, Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane, Psycho, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Star Wars 1977, Bambi (any of the first few Disney movies work, but I think this is the best of them, along with Fantasia, which is a more abstract watch), The Wizard of Oz. Those eight movies encompass a very wide range of cinema history and are all hugely influential in their own right, and they all hold up incredibly well.

Agreed. The sequels and surrounding material always felt a little to interested in the 'face' of the Terminator. The original on the other hand has a bit of a 'Monster Movie' vibe. By the end of the film it's just a metal skeleton... exactly as dangerous as before but more terrifying (you know like... for the time) and I sort of wish the sequels could recapture that instead of just always going for the big action set piece of Arnold vs some other human looking terminator or other.

Yep. Arnold's Terminator loses his eyebrows in the fireball/explosion in their initial escape. Thus begins process of The Terminator losing his human facade piece by piece. The physical illusion falls apart and literally dies (the skin is dead; it's why that fly lands on him and doesn't move and the Janitor asks him what smells so bad; he's rotting like a corpse) as it's behavior becomes more obviously inhuman. Until all "humanity" is stripped away, all attempt at infiltration is abandoned, and it's just another movie monster chasing the heroes. Classic visual storytelling, one of many reasons everyone loves this film so much.

He's so serious when he tells them that it can't be reasoned with, it doesn't feel pain or pity or remorse & it will not stop until she's DEAD ! The time travel angle on a guy who looks for love can also be found in a movie from 1980 with Christopher Reeve called Somewhere in Time. Also, just for trivia, pay attention to the fact that Lance Henriksen and Bill Paxton got killed by a Terminator in this movie. This was Arnold’s breakout movie role. Prior to this he was well-known as a bodybuilder and had acted in a few movies that didn’t really go anywhere. He didn’t have high hopes for this film either, thinking it was just going to be another B-movie, but it was a smash hit at the box office and kicked off his career as a leading man.
At one time they had considered having Arnold play Kyle and OJ Simpson as the Terminator, but didn’t think OJ would be believable as a cold blooded killer 😂.

This was James Cameron's first big movie. His 1980's-1990's films make a good series to watch, tracking the progression of special FX tech. He likes to use actors that he is comfortable with so you see a lot of the same actors in his films.
    "The Terminator" (1984)
"Aliens" (1986) sequel to Ridley Scott's "Alien" (1979)
"The Abyss" (1989) first use ever of CGI in films
"Terminator 2" (1991) first CGI character ever in films, first use of morphing
"True Lies" (1994) excellent mixing of traditional physical FX, practical FX, optical FX, optial matting, digital matting, and new digital compositing techniques.

The clamoring for a Terminator 2 reaction has begun .
I think I shall join ... , it is the bookend for this story after all . :)
For movies about robots, these movies are very human , triumphs and flaws and all .
And while I'm sure others have already mentioned that Terminator 2 is considered to be one of the best action movies of all time -- the haunting melody that the both movies carry both in the main theme and occasionally in the movie is also something quite memorable, as the numerous recreations across UA-cam show .
    Example:
    ua-cam.com/video/ba9AeUMjoBo/v-deo.html
    Enjoy !

This is the first reaction of yours that I've watched and I really loved it! You had so many fun lines. My favourite was, "don't worry guys. It's just a super-intelligent, indestructible robot. It'll be fine." :D
It sounds like you've already seen a lot of Arnold's comedy era in the 90s, so it'll be cool if you continue to watch more of his action star era from the 80s.

James Cameron (like many other directors) likes to work with the same actors in his movies. Bill Paxton (spiked hair guy at the beginning), Lance Hendricksen, and Michael Biehn (Reese) are in Aliens. I'm sure that someone has already commented that Bill Paxton has been killed by a Terminator, an Alien, and a Predator.

For some reason I find it so hard to believe all these UA-camrs that do these movie reviews, have NEVER seen these huge pop-culture movies. Maybe because I see today with how easy it is for everyone to find just about anything on the internet, which is also on their phones that they carry everywhere. When I was growing up, there was no internet so we played outside, did sports, watched tv, or went to the movies, that pretty much sums it up, and I grew up watching all these movies at the theaters, which takes up more time to go and watch, then sitting at home matching. I mostly don't get how some people haven't watched the movies where all the pop references come from. There are cartoons that even bring up these movies over and over again. I couldn't imagine not understanding references everyone was talking about.

This was Schwarzenegger's 3rd film. The 1st 2, "Conan The Barbarian" (1982) and "Conan The Destroyer" (1983) were based on a series of fantasy books from the 1920's & 1930's by Robert E. Howard.

I know some have said to watch the special edition of Terminator 2, but I cannot make it clear enough that the best version to watch of T2 is the theatrical release, if you can get your hands on the straight up theatrical it is by far the best edit and overall edition of that film. The others add scenes that throw off the storytelling, it's fine to watch those later but it shouldn't be your first viewing. k thx bai

I'll be back is an Armold-ism he worked into many of his movies, but this was one of his earlier efforts. The 80's music is typical of the time the movie was made as the music industry wasn't cool with lending the actual music, so it tended to be unknown stuff or bad covers. He had eyebrows. They got burned off right after the nightclub scene.
