i mean not really. she's just not mainstream popular like margot robbie but that's not her lane. she's very much recognized within the industry. her filmography speaks for itself.
She's got nominated for Academy award, and won tons of major awards. She is quite well-known but chose to keep a low profile.
People, stop using "underrated" in completely the wrong context. Mulligan is HIGHLY rated by pretty much everyone in the business. You mean under-appreciated? Overlooked by awards?
If you used this like 5 years ago, I'd agree with you. But now she has been getting a decent recognition
One of the best things that the year of 2023 did for the filmmaking industry was bring Michael Fassbender back into the world. Not saying he was ever truly gone, but there was a slump in time where we really did miss him for just how great of an actor he is. Him being in two movies this year and NOW here with a Variety Actors on Actors you can only be happy for the guy.
I agree. Such a talented and classy actor, taking a break from acting for years, then suddenly making a comeback with David Fincher and Taika Waititi films. Plus, appearing on "Actors on Actors." Incredible.

Then in early 2017 he started racing and got married. He has also had a kid and started an acting school

They are just lovely humans and clearly close friends. They have that natural ability to let the conversation flow so effortlessly and are truly passionate and engaged with each other. SIGH. What humans in general used to be like before phones.
Also I adore the she brings up Fincher's notorious scene takes (who doesn't want to work with Fincher!) and Fassbender is the first actor to almost shield that question and instead allows us to know that Fincher is generous to everyone and speaks the same way to everyone on set. Such grace they both have.
Michael truly is one of the finest and most underrated actors of any generation and he should've collected every award with his performances in movies like Jobs, Shame and Twelve years a slave.

@@KB-ej8hm I think he is less known than he deserves. For example, we see Ryan Gosling in everywhere but Fassbender is much better actor than Gosling. I dont know maybe being a celebrity is different than being an actor.

So glad to hear that Michael hasn't given up on his racing dream entirely. Having watched Porsche's series with him on 'The Road to LeMans,' it was one of the best sports documentary series out there and Michael was a very compelling subject because you see his struggles along with the achievements.
If you're into racing and haven't seen them, I HIGHLY recommend it.
As soon as I saw the two actors participating in this episode I was ready to go. Great talents on both sides.
These two gave some of my favorite performances of the decade in Shame. Watching their scenes together in that movie genuinely feels like an invasion of privacy. Brilliant acting.

The moment I saw these two in "Shame" I was flabbergasted. They both did such an incredible job. At the time, I was much younger, and I admit. a movie like that did jolt me in some kind of way. But that is what a good film, and good acting does; to make you feel uncomfortable. It's nice to see Fassbender back on the screen again! He is so magnetic.

I really love what Michael Fassbender share about his racing experience. Especially calling it an ego test, since injuries and losing is part of the game. Just so much respect to him for trying out one of his life long dream despite how hard it must be.

Carey is always a top favourite of mine, and I do love so many other actors in these; however, I do think this is one of the most evenly matched conversations. Most of these, one actor is a bit more conversational or talks about it themselves in an unequal measure (no judgement! It just happens!) but this was a proper 50/50 exchange. Love to see it!

When Fassbender says Shame took him time to get over. I can believe it. I use to see him I. Interviews long after and felt creeped out. That’s a tough film.
So glad these two are mashed up here for this series. Both excellent actors. Steve McQueen is one of my favorite directors and Shame is such a great film. Indeed captured a perspective and character of NYC.
