I'm a Vietnam War Veteran and suffer from PTSD...this song describes what I go through in life. For me it's comforting and without having to explain why I am the way I am. I sing this and some how it brings out the best in me. Thank you God for such a Song.
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would've done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down, and still somehow It's cloud illusions, I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels The dizzy dancin' way you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show You leave 'em laughin' when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take, and still somehow It's love's illusions, I recall I really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way But now old friends are acting strange They shake their heads, they say I've changed Well, something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions, I recall I really don't know life at all.
One of the best male vocal ensembles for this song IMO . Roger brings so much class to this wonderfully beautiful song . I especially love the orchestration .
@@jasonski77horne50 First time I heard his voice was from my island of birth, Mauritius. Moving to Perth, Australia in the early 1970s I found he was extremely popular. I just love his wonderful melodious and calming voice.
You said it man. It is the sound of my youth, my sister got this album and I secretly stole it at much as I could. It bring such warmth and almost tears of joy.
Joni wrote about the existential essence of life. And having such a virtual retrospective in mind as a young woman(what she was at that time) is amazing. ..Lyrics which try to grasp the inability why we live.. And so we rock and sway on the golf slag of love, hope, loss, expectations. ..and all this sweet bitterness. And eventual a day comes where the illusions of our personal infinity or greatness is over. I've heard a lot of renditions now... Really a lot! And to me... now..I give you "seven" performers , a "must" to hear on you tube: ultra breathtaking versions by four women: Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now 2000 lives Sara Bareilles - Both Sides Now (Audio) Both Sides Now by Mary Fahl (former lead singer of October Project) Judy Collins - "Both Sides Now" 1987 three diverse male performers singing in a more traditional way(each song from around the seventies ..chronological): Euson - Both Sides Now - HQ Euson - Both sides now (Live).mpg Both sides now Glen Campbell Glen Campbell - Both sides now Roger Whittaker - Both Sides now Roger Whittaker - From both sides now (1974) But there are still many other good renditions,...many and many ... which I like very much too! No competing. To me it's not important, who sings it the best. This song is all about the existence of life. And of course a nice voice is very helpfull .... But to feel that the performing is honestly reflecting and contemplating about the subject...that's what counts.
Bows and flows and angel hair and ice cream castles in the air and feathered canyons everywhere I've looked at clouds that way but now they only block the sun and form funnels and cause mayhem so many things I would've done if tornadoes weren't in the way (except when I have a phone handy to upload one with)
The 70-ties were really the best for their texts, better then the 80-ies, but the 80-ies were good for their variety. Nowadays music isn't even worth the space to safe for free on your hard disc or phone.
Love Roger Whittaker and his music... singing AND whistling... this is my favorite version of Both Sides Now... Rest in Peace Roger... God Bless You !
❤😢 rip roger with the golden voice.
Farewell, Rest In Peace Roger. Thanks for your beautiful voice in your songs💒

Here here bro. Im a smoker and sometimes live in fear about my health.
I love you Veteran 🥰
My mother introduce me to this song when I was little and he is one of my favorite folk singers.
Einfach nur wunderschön😢😢😢😢
Rows and flows of angel hair
And ice cream castles in the air
And feather canyons everywhere
I've looked at clouds that way
But now they only block the sun
They rain and snow on everyone
So many things I would've done
But clouds got in my way
I've looked at clouds from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's cloud illusions, I recall
I really don't know clouds at all
Moons and Junes and Ferris wheels
The dizzy dancin' way you feel
As every fairy tale comes real
I've looked at love that way
But now it's just another show
You leave 'em laughin' when you go
And if you care, don't let them know
Don't give yourself away
I've looked at love from both sides now
From give and take, and still somehow
It's love's illusions, I recall
I really don't know love at all
Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well, something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions, I recall
I really don't know life at all.

I prefer this over Judy's ( I love Judy Collins though) to Me , this is the Benchmark recording of the song!
love this version by Roger Whittaker especially the orchestration
RIP
Lovely version of a classic ballad, simply wonderful.
I wish it was 1974 again. 😔
I miss good music and great singers. This is just an emotional ride from start to finish .

I've heard a lot of renditions now... Really a lot!
And to me... now..I give you "seven" performers , a "must" to hear on you tube:
ultra breathtaking versions by four women:
Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now 2000 lives
Sara Bareilles - Both Sides Now (Audio)
Both Sides Now by Mary Fahl (former lead singer of October Project)
Judy Collins - "Both Sides Now" 1987
three diverse male performers singing in a more traditional way(each song from around the seventies ..chronological):
Euson - Both Sides Now - HQ
Euson - Both sides now (Live).mpg
Both sides now Glen Campbell
Glen Campbell - Both sides now
Roger Whittaker - Both Sides now
Roger Whittaker - From both sides now (1974)
But there are still many other good renditions,...many and many ... which I like very much too!

Perfect just perfect... Coming from 26yr old lad :) there is hope yet
This is the best version of this song.
Diegene die dit schreef Joni Mitchell klasse puur sang.poppe Bart.belgie.en de zanger 100x klasse.
Ah my guilty passion
As an old fart ...this sums life up
Beside the original performance, byJoni Mitchell, this one is one of the loveliest.
Benny Yacobi the Original was Judy Collins
This is better than original.👍
Roger W. is best :-) Tidløs.

I really don't know love at all...
Judy Collins, Natalie Cole, and Roger Whittaker versions are the best.
Vivian Pough there's even Glen Campbell s version
fargeeks: I love Glen Campbell, I didn't know he had a version of 'Both Sides Now' thank you.
Vivian Pough I guess this song was so great that there had to be many covers
I like the version of Mary stahl that's my favourite
