Each German Panzer Regiment had a Workshop Company responsible for maintenance and battlefield recovery of German tanks. This workshop company, had an HQ Platoon, two (Repair) Platoons with the mechanics and the 3rd (Recovery) Platoon with 5 heavy - 18 ton - half-track prime movers. This prime mover was the Sd.Kfz. 9 (also known as "Famo") the heaviest half-track vehicle of any type built in quantity in Germany during the war years. Approximately 2,500 were produced between 1938 and 1945.

I am enjoying your content, I used to work with a German chap who worked in battle field tank recovery. He had a bad leg from a kettenkrad falling on top of him. Probably saved his life.
Thanks for this presentation. Great recognition of the mechanical support crew that were attached to panzer units.

I think you may enjoy the military 1945 channel, lots of private footage from ww2 on the german side, as well as unseen archival material.
