  • This episode was filmed 24th-28th October 2023 from before we decided which Consort Motorhome would be right for us.
Join us, Carol & Ken as we take a break in the Lake District to mull over our options for the new van and visit some friends.
In this episode we enjoy some wild camping, beautiful countryside and a hair raising drive over the Wrynose Pass before returning to Consort Motorhomes in Leeds to pick the actual van we will be having.

We are off to the Scottish highlands again, in our Fiat Talento lwb, fully converted campervan on Saturday. This time with a twist. Instead of staying at a camp site, in the van, it is only costing us £330 for a full week in a large log cabin with all self catering amenities and bedrooms for 5 to stay each night at Invergordon, only two of us going though.
We will use it as a base as we have done before and visit both the west and East coasts from there. Just because you have a campervan, doesn't mean you have to sleep in it every night you are away, just as you stay in hotels, when you want a bit of luxury as well.

Hi Ken and carol, another very enjoyable video. Apart from them narrow and steep roads. Talk about bottom clenching and squeaky moments😬 Exciting times waiting for your new van. I know you have it now but I am still catching up. Love Carol's photography and your narrating. I find you both very relaxing to follow and listen to. On to the next😁

Great video again guys. Wow that was a steep pass you guys went over for sure.
Just a thought on when your opening the front doors Carol when windy ,if Ken lets the window down it makes it much easier to open then as it's not catching as much wind.
Digital dash is so much easier to read ,it should be easy to change between km and mph.
Another storm comming in here again ,will it ever end?.
Looking forward to the next series and seen what you are both getting up to.
Thanks to you both for sharing .

5:14 and check that all cabinett doors are loocked. And the toilett is closed😊. I am so glad you choosed the 5,40m long van. Espesially when wintercamping. Not only is this wan easier to warm up, and easyly maintain a good temperature. but when the wan is shorter you get more gripp on the road when it's ice and snow! Buth remember to have t least 16c inside the wan at night and there will not be fungi in the wan.

I knew that would happen eventually Ken at that park up at Elterwater.I was there last month before the sign and one plonker who had a campervan decided to park width ways so only 2 more could park there at best! ( the few spoil it for the rest of us )I also cleaned up a throw away barbecue and used toilet paper and rubbish! It’s getting harder to find places now round the Lake District the locals have had enough although they’re a few pubs that will let you stay if you have a meal or drink . Now then guys, you're in my county, Cumbria. See you brought the weather with you 😂. We'll done for getting the van down the Hardknott pass 1:3 hairpins. Scary aren't they ! My son does a cycle sportive in May, that tackles all the major passes in the LD, over a 112 mile route starting and finishing at Grasmere. Hardknott Pass is done the other way, to the way you went, after the 100 mile marker. Most riders struggle on the top hairpins, some topple off, who blames them, it's exhausting, known as one of the toughest cycle events in Europe. My lads best effort is just shy of 7 hrs. The record holder did it in 5hrs 40 odd minutes I think. Crazy eh.

    • @LifeistooshortCK
      @LifeistooshortCK  Рік тому

FYI, the sportive is called the Fred Witton, raises thousands £ for charity. There is a video of it on YT. My sons got a vid on YT, of when he cycled LEJOG as fast as possible, in 2012 for Leukemia Research. My other lad andmyself supported in a van, now that was epic !!!

This was a fantastic video, mainly because it brought back some fantastic memories of our many holidays in the lakes, the only downside I wish you would have got to our favourite place of Keswick. I think you were very brave tackling Wrynose pass, it’s a nightmare in summer, Kirkstone pass is easy, I note the pub seems closed at the top. Honister is more challenging, Whinlatter pass is a delight especially to view the Osprey visiting centre and the red squirrels darting in front of you. I am looking forward to seeing you in your new van, you will have that much space and home comforts that it will seem like you have arrived in a five star hotel. I wish you all the best in your journey in the next stage of your life.

Over the years, I've driven up and down all the passes in the Lake District many times. Think the most challenging journey was during the 1970s in a Reliant 3 wheeler van with 5 adults crammed inside it. We all had figures like Twiggy in those days, but the engine was only about 800cc. Fortunately, no one had to get out and walk up the Hardknott Pass 😂😂, but it was definitely touch and go as to whether or not the Reliant would make it to the top.

That shot of that heavy fog looking down the valley with the road ~ beautiful! That countryside was so beautiful! I think I would have liked the road to be dry, however! ☺

I once took my parents for a drive over the Wrynose and Hardknott passes when on holiday in The Lakes and my mum had nightmares about it for years afterwards. Looking forward to more adventures in your new van.

Hi both. Lake District looks lovely. We’ve always been a little put off by the feeling that it’s busy and there aren’t that many good wild park ups. Would be interested in your experiences. Nice to see the new van in real life. How exciting. Cheers x

We love the Lake District outside the busy summer season. It is difficult to find park ups within the National Park but we always manage to find somewhere on the outskirts.

That certainly was a steep road. Wouldn't like to try it when it's frosty or snowy.
