Merle love America like so many did. If we're to change the Country we're living in now the 1 THING WE HAVE TO DO IS REALIZE THAT WE'RE ALL FELLOW AMERICANS & BE PATRIOTIC AGAIN!! THIS IS OUR COUNTRY MY FELLOW AMERICANS, LET COME TOGETHER!!!!!!!
OMG This is a man straight, not Straight out of Compton poser world, but straight out of PRISON. Not county jail but San Quentin. He wrote all his many many top songs!! He is my favorite in the whole world. So there is that.
Merle, even though he served time when he was younger, is probably one of the greatest Patriots the US has ever had. He also was blind to differences in Race, Color, or Creed. He shared a lot of the views that the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had. Rest in Peace, Mr. Haggard.
We call him “The Hag”. Legend, OG, A Master Songwriter, Vocalist and Guitarist. The Hag was an Artist for the common man, the blue collar workers. He sang about what he wanted/was important and if the fay cats didn’t like it, he didn’t give a sh!t. Merle Haggard is a very deep rabbit hole you must discover. And watching him perform live is an experience.
I'm 78. I'm a Navy Vet. I'm a proud American. That said, I liked the video. Can't say I'd heard it before but I probably had. I remember everything he was singing about. But,...... What I really liked was what you had to say. As one proud American to another, Thank you!
I'm an Army, 100% disabled Veteran. Was active duty during the Vietnam Conflict. Yep, the VA sucks. Yet, I raise he'll with them for my rights, they have no choice but to hear me.
Merle Haggard is the Gold Standard for country music. I had the pleasure of seeing him live twice--he is sorely missed. His voice and songwriting are unequalled.
I got to see him six months before he passed. At that same show, on a side stage, my wife and I stood 3’ from an up and comer named Chris Stapleton. Ironically, he blew up six months later.
My brother, you need to go down the Merle Haggard rabbit hole. He's right up there with Johnny Cash! My favorite Merle Haggard tune is "I take a lot of pride in what I am". His more popular songs "branded man", "sing me back home", "silver wings" are incredible too. FYI: Merle Haggard was a prisoner in San Quentin when Johnny Cash played there, watching Johnny Cash perform changed Merle Haggard's life.
Love your understanding of this , it is for everyone who loves there country. I loved your presentation. I’m an older gentleman I respect what you just put on what this world needs. We need to all come together. Yeah I’m an old white man from Texas but I’ve always been a good man for everyone. That’s the truth we’re all one God made us each to be his children, and for us all to love each other. Because he is coming back love your channel young man. Thank you.
For real...I'm an Okie from Beaver, OKLAHOMA....poor and open minded. If I never heard Merle, I might be inside the prison now...he and Mom opened the eyes.
Great reaction! Merle came to national attention with the ant-hippie pro-Vietnam War anthem "Okie from Muskogee" in 1968. Over the years he realized that we had been lied to, and he moved more and more into the counter culture. The next Outlaw you need to discover may be the best of them all Waylon Jennings. He also has dozens of great songs. "Are you sure Hank done it this way?" might be a good place to start.
Fightin' Side Of Me is one of my favs of his. Very much still relevant these days. Unfortunately, not many younger people feel that kind of pride anymore.
Same here man....merle and me got drunk many times in my 65 Chevelle SS on the dirt roads of NC....i had my girl, my thirty thirty and a 12 pack. i know it sounds boring but that was some of the best memories of my life
All we had to do growing in a small southern town was ride the dirt roads listening to our favorite music wide open. I remember doing it with Mama and Daddy when I was a child. When I was a teenager, we had our deadend dirt roads where we did our wilder partying. Loud music was always a part of this. I'm loving this musical journey with you, even subscribed to your channel. Thank you sweetie!
The Hagg died in 2016. This song was originally released in 1982. He spent 2.5 years in San Quentin for burglary & attempted escape. He was anything but 'clean cut'. LOL He did a song called 'Okie from Muskogee'. (Muskogee, Oklahoma) & its kind of sung in jest about hippies & drugs etc. He has a fun song with Willie Nelson called 'It's all going to pot'. Check the old boys out.
TY, for the song. For real...I'm an Okie from Beaver, OKLAHOMA....poor and open minded. If I never heard Merle, I might be inside the prison now...he and Mom opened the eyes. TY again.
Your comment that you don't need to be represented to connect with the music hits home with me. I'm a mixed race (White, Puerto Rican) Rock guy who grew up in the 70's as a teenager and Country music in not my thing but like all music I can appreciate it for what it is and enjoy it. That's what makes music beautiful and why it crosses all boundaries and cultures. It's all good.
Merle Haggard was doing time at San Quentin when he heard Johnny Cash live. He started to turn to music. He was doing hard time but started to write and play great music. Hes part of the " Outlaw Country" trend. He was offically pardoned by Ronald Reagan in 1972. One of Willie Nelsons best friends
Hats off to you bro. You don't buy into the divisiveness of politics and I appreciate that. Merle was one of the greatest and you should check him out some more. Mama Tried, Drink Up and Be Somebody, Okie From Muskogee, Ramblin Fever, Pancho and Lefty (with Willie Nelson), you can't miss with Merle.
I like the way you are open minded, and willing to move forward as we all should. So many of these performers that you saw that came out of the era we’re brave enough to stand for the truth. Many were inspired by Woody Guthrie, who wrote America the beautiful, and the song were taught in school, is only part of this song there was verses that have been deleted from most media if you will. If you look it up and listen to the rest of it there’s been wise people that have been there all along through our strife in a country and humanity.
Thanks for being open about where you are coming from. Your openness and heart gives me hope there is still a chance that we might come together. This song came out in 1982. I believe the imagery in the video were pulled from Norman Rockwell. At his time he was considered an artist reflecting American culture. I'm going to mention some songs by the Hag, that I have not seen mentioned. "Rainbow Stew" because I think it pairs well with this song. Two of my favorite ballads by him "Leonard" and "Daddy Frank". Finally I'll suggest "Think I'll Just Stay Here and Drink" I believe you'll like the style of the song. As always thanks for a great and thoughtful reaction.
You had me worried at first because I had never seen your show before… but, you quickly changed my mind and I am thankful for you being a patriot and getting outside your box and looking at this video…. Great reaction video.- thanks for doing it.
Better times are ahead, I honestly believe that. Merle is the deepest kind of well you'll ever find. Lastly, props to you for the shout-out to your wife. Mine is the greatest thing in my life. I need to tell her more often.
Best poetry from Merle. Excellent song writer. My husband and I miss him. Went to 3 of his concerts. Our family and ancestors have been in the military since the Civil war. The Veterans should always be appreciated. Amen on your patriotic words. Thanks for Merle.
I grew up listening to Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Don Williams. All of it is really good listening. If you have not done Don Williams, he is really worth listening to.
Merle’s the best ,, I live in Las Vegas and have seen great performances but the guy who always got to me was Merle Haggard. He put poetry to music and he’s sorely missed. You’re going to have a great time ahead of you with this artist. Enjoy
You won’t hear nothing better than Merle Haggard. I’m his number one fan. You picked a good one, but there’s several several good songs in Merle song that you would love. Thanks again, man doing a great job thank you.
I like your openness and honesty when talking to us as Adults, one to another, without the baggage so many people try and burden us with. We are fellow Americans, me and you. As it should be. Stay strong and safe my brother.
Merle Haggard wrote & sang his life story. He lived his music. If he was singing about prison you knew he had been In slammer. If singing about hard financial times it’s bc he had lived it. An honorable American Outlaw. One of a kind .
*salute to you and your father. I was raised in a family where members of my family fought in every war this country has had including the French Indian & British war. That tradition ended with me. I should have been in Desert Storm but 3 days before I was heading out I was in a hit and run and it took me a year to learn to walk again... Navy said no thanks. I too have lost friends over our freedoms. I do tend to get a bit triggered especially if I see someone burning our flag. However, all that junk aside I enjoyed this reaction. Merle kind of straddled the fence to outlaw country. He has a huge catalog of music I think I have over 20 albums of his and I know I don't have all of his work. Some of his music will get you dancing, some will make you sit and think. Love your reactions keep up the good work.
i saw Merle Haggard live in concert close to the end of his career... he was getting up there in age, but man, what an experience. Greatest country singer of all time.
Grew up listening to the Hag. Probably my favorite artist of all time. Definitely top 3. Back in the 70's it seems like my mom never took her Merle Haggard 8-track tape out of the tape deck in the car. I had the whole thing memorized before I was in kindergarten. You need to check out a song called "Mama tried." Or "That's the way love goes." Both are excellent! 👍
I love your take on these songs...most of the time I"m crying before the song is over just experiencing your reaction. These are songs of my youth...I"ve heard them many many times but did I ever cry before the song was over, probably not. They are deep rooted, and I love that any of us/many of us experienced the "good times"...but they aren't really over as long as we carry on; support our country and each other and love America and each other❤...you're right Merle...they aren't really over.
Oh yes! Merle Haggard! He was always my favourite country singer. I love his songwriting. He really tells a story. Mama Tried; Im a Lonesome Fugative; Okie from Muskogee; Branded Man; Swinging Doors; If we Make it Through December; Uncle Len; Daddy Frank; silver Wings; The Bottle Let me Down; Wake up; Going Where the Lonely Go; Misery and Gin; The Farmer’s Daughter; Rainbow Stew; Billy Overcame his Size; Sing a Sad Song; The Fighting side of Me; ….to name only some.
Hag is speaking from the world he knew, from the world he was raised in and what he's used to. He's telling the truth as he knew it. Artist can only speak of a place from where they know. Thats why not everyone can understand certain paintings, or poems etc. A single artist isn't supposed to to speak to everyone. NOT EVERYONE IS THE SAME! Thats what makes this country so great...everyone's diversity! And NOT make those differences anyone's business except the individual.
Merle was called "the poet of the common man" for a reason. He had some great and well recognized hits, however, some of his lesser known songs are my favorites. You should check out "Irma Jackson", "Diana", "Shelley's Winter Love", "Uncle Lem", "Here in Frisco"... Can you tell Merle is my favorite?Miss him every day.
Nobody could pin him down to a movement. He was way too strong-willed for that stuff. He'd be raw and unplugged one minute, comically over-produced in another, then bring in the horn sections and barely sound country the next.
Black Pegasus I have never suggested a song to anyone ever but I truly believe this song would be perfect for you to listen to…. It’s preform by trace Adkins called Til the Last Shots Fired. Make sure you watch the live performance! If will get to those feels of yours no doubt because I know how much you love this country plus the fact your dad served!! Don’t let this one slip past you IT’S THAT GOOD! Julie
Trace does amazing songs.... my grandfather was in WWII and was in the Navy but would never talk about it... I would never attempt to imagine what he lived through!! Empty Chair 🪑 is a great song!!
I want freedom, peace, safety, and a simple life where I don't see my countrymen as the enemy. I want this even more for my children. I think you do as well, because you're an American. I'm glad you reacted to this.
I'm a 66 yr. old Okie.....for what's it's worth....YOUR ARE ON THE RIGHT TRACK.....your have good family values.....really like your channel......keep the faith.......bro..........( probably the first time I ever used the word 'bro').....lol . Been ' binging on your channel and loving it !
Music back in the 50's, 60's, 70's 80's and 90's, brought our races together. Disco, the old love songs, music brought us all together. I loved those times. I really hate the current times. We're totally lost now. It changed during the Vietnam War. Really after Kennedy was killed.
You're a good patriot, and I sincerely appreciate your love for the country. And your appreciation for this song. I'm 48, and I remember this song playing on the radio when I was a kid, so yeah, it's old. And yes, we've all made mistakes in our youth. But that's not who we are now. I'm not a rap fan, but you are my favorite reaction guy. You're awesome, and have a good heart. God bless you. Looking forward to seeing more reactions from you.
Man you could hate country music and still love Merle. That buttery voice sneaks lyrics in that grab your heart. If you like CDB you’d love Workin’ Mans Blues from Merle.
I’m a 72 year old Hispanic woman born and raised in NM. Those sweet images are Norman Rockwell paintings. His paintings would appear in the weekly Saturday Evening Post. I think often of the neighborhood where I grew up. The kids were of all racial backgrounds, Native American, Black, Hispanic, Italian, Japanese, White. The kids all played on my block together. We all went to the same elementary school, with the exception of a few who went to Catholic School. We were all friends and playmates. I wished I had a Norman Rockwell painting of my neighborhood. We talk too much about division and race. When we do that we don’t give enough credit to people like Charley Pride, Sammy Davis Jr. , Congresswoman Barbara Jordan, and everyday people like my Uncle who organized a Boys Club in our neighborhood and included every boy who wanted to join. It’s like you have said Black Pegasus, we need more love! Amen.
Merle is my all time favorite country musician singer, ever. I grew up with his music. Had all his albums. I cried when he died. My favorite is "The Lonesome Fugitive".
This song is what MAGA is all about. It’s not about race, it’s about making American life more like the Greatest Generation for ALL people! MAGA is about American products, wages, society, morals, patriotism, and family being the best it can be; and being truly free!
I saw him in a little old small Cotton-Eyed Joe's club in Cookeville Tennessee years ago. Man it was amazing to get to stand so close to him and not be like an actual concert and just listen to him. Sit and play and sing
Merle Haggard was the sage & chronicaler of the American way of life :) I miss him everyday! Try "If We Make It Through December", "Momma Tried", "Kern River" :)
Because you're giving our genre a chance; many of us (myself included) are giving yours a shot. At times I truly feel my ears are going to start bleeding.. but I try it on 😆
I'm a kiwi (NZ ander ) and almost 80 years old and loved Merle Haggard when he released a song called " All my friends are gonna be strangers" back in the early 60`s ... and have loved so many of Merle`s songs through the years. And to hear this guy (a rapper) acknowledge Merle`s talent as a writer- singer and amazing musician create beautiful music is so lovely to hear.
I grew up with my Dad singin Haggard tunes around the house all the time, he sounded just like him. Merle Haggard wrote over 70 #1 hits for himself and other artists, over 100 Top 10 hits...he could play the piano, fiddle, guitar, and saxophones, in fact he mastered them all...He died in April 2016, and when I told my Dad it was the second time I ever saw him tear up. Mind you, he was a USArmy Vietnam vet, he deployed twice where he went thru hell, and he was a bare knuckle fighter when he returned stateside, this man did never got emotional except for when his Dad died in 2002, and when Merle Haggard died...that's how important Merle is to many of us...I'm just sayin...🤘🏻🇺🇸
Timeless truths transcend accidentals and tribalism. Great books and great music touch humanity itself, touch goodness/truth/beauty themselves. That's why such pieces of art are great and they are still around. Thanks for tapping into that.
My recently passed Husband was an awesome singer and he would sing this song. Every time I heard him do it I would silently cry for the loss of our Country's innocence. Watching you react to this has me bawling like a baby. To think I'd never hear him sing it again.... It's been unbearable. Thank you.
One of the best loved country artists that was loved and respected by his fellow artists from the country genre, he was very intuitive with his music what a talent
You are the only "opinion" type video presenter that i care to watch. Your honesty, level headed reasoning is always spot on. Thank you for the entertainment, but most of all, your rational comments.
I am an old white woman and I relate to you…..We are Human.
Don’t apologize for “not Hating” ….We need young men like you.
Well said. Always remember that the country we love is not the government.
"Mama Tried" 💚🤙🏼
Great song! The Grateful did a great cover of that song.
Amazing song!
That's my favorite song from him
One of my favorite songs ever
Yes! I hope he does that.
I’m a 62 year old Christian woman. I connect with you brother!!!! Mad respect for uou
OMG This is a man straight, not Straight out of Compton poser world, but straight out of PRISON. Not county jail but San Quentin. He wrote all his many many top songs!! He is my favorite in the whole world. So there is that.
He was in the audience when Jonny Cash played San Quentin
Merle and Waylon are my favorites. Don’t know how to describe them but both have very unique singing voices.

I totally forgot about this gem!! Thanks for the reminder 🙂
right on great one to reveiw today no dought at all review it
I can understand some of the sentiments. Especially now when little in this country seems worth standing up for when everyone up top shits on it.
I grew up listening to Merle haggard because he was one of my dad's favorite singers
Grew up on the dirt roads drinking beer and listening to Merle. You should look up his life history. Definitely outlaw.
Facts a well known loved country singer

Merle came to one of my gigs, many years ago, as he was passing through our town.
I grew up, believing when you kneel down, you're humbling yourself before God. Not Man!!
You have such a REAL voice man, I have a great time hearing your perspective. 😊
You are 100% Patriotic.!!! I served on active duty in the Navy for 22 years. I will always Love the Country and our Flag.!!

ABSOLUTELY!! Best Two-Steppin song at all bars in Nashville.🎸
Legend of country. " Mama Tried" is one of his best.❤
As very patriotic...try "Walking on the Fighting Side of Me" by Merle. You will enjoy it. 😊
The Hag is an "OG" in country music. "Sing me back home" is an amazing song. His catalog is deep
You are so right...we all have to come together...and keep what's good and right in our society for the future generations.

One of my favorite old school country artists, and Merle was one of the original outlaws.
Merle Haggard was a great mimic. As part of his act, he imitated, in a kind way, all his great Country contemporaries.
You found a shining gem over a deep rabbit hole with Merle.
I guarantee you'll vibe with his music.
Merl Haggard is one of the best ever! So many songs to listen to. My go to when I'm drinking!!!
You impress me so much. I respect your views so much and I think you expressed your thoughts really well. Thanks BP.
Quick comment. I love the reaction. Please dive into Merle because he has one of the smoothest voices in music. Much love! 👊🏼
Love your views on the status of our Country, PROUD OF WHAT THE FLAG STANDS FOR!!!
The Hag was as outlaw as they come. He served hard time. His song "Momma Tried" has a lot of truth about where he comes from.
I said to myself the exact same thing you posted to myself when he guessed him to not be outlaw.
Look up Momma Tried, Take this job and shove it, and Outlaws prayer
He is amazing, nice reaction. You should do momma tried. Great song.
Merle Haggard, willie Nelson, Johhny Cash all sang, and hung together. I listened to them growing up.
I salute you, brother, for your love of country.
ABSOLUTE BEST Merle Haggard song, true poetry: The Runnin' Kind.
You have a pulpit most don’t! You been there, know the mindset and have opened the door. Use your rap to open that door for others!
Merle has bars that'll slip past you if you aren't looking for them. 🖤☻🖤
Merle is both Country country and Outlaw Country, that's what makes him so great.
Nobody could pin him down to a movement. He was way too strong-willed for that stuff. He'd be raw and unplugged one minute, comically over-produced in another, then bring in the horn sections and barely sound country the next.
Feelings, emotion, they’re universal.
Julie
Have you heard the song Empty Chair from Trace Adkins ?
Have you heard the song Empty Chair from Trace Adkins?
Trace does amazing songs.... my grandfather was in WWII and was in the Navy but would never talk about it... I would never attempt to imagine what he lived through!!
Empty Chair 🪑 is a great song!!
You’re very right about what he’s saying. We are so divided anymore and it’s heartbreaking
Merle was a patriot first, always. He was the working mans singer.
He's all OUTLAW!!! Waylon, Cash ect.❤❤❤
Man you could hate country music and still love Merle. That buttery voice sneaks lyrics in that grab your heart.
If you like CDB you’d love Workin’ Mans Blues from Merle.
The Hag! One of my all time favorites! He is a Country Legend! ✌️❤️🎶
Mama tried is must along with Pancho and lefty..
Great take and outlook on this video. I appreciate the truthfulness of your perspective. Great reaction.
All the painted pics are Norman Rockwell works.
Had a small collection of dishes with Norman Rockwell art loved all of his works. Very distinctive
Love ❤️ it 🎉 When I was young my mother would play ▶️ Country Music 🎶 🎵 on Sundays. 🙏
This song is what MAGA is all about. It’s not about race, it’s about making American life more like the Greatest Generation for ALL people! MAGA is about American products, wages, society, morals, patriotism, and family being the best it can be; and being truly free!
LOVE The Hag So MUCH!!! Sooo MANY GREAT songs!! 💯❤️
I saw him in a little old small Cotton-Eyed Joe's club in Cookeville Tennessee years ago. Man it was amazing to get to stand so close to him and not be like an actual concert and just listen to him. Sit and play and sing
“I don’t have to be represented to feel connected”….Well said
The instrumentals on this song are so amazing... Lots of gospel licks in there.
Ohhh I love Merle Haggard. He was soooo famous and fabulous. He has great songs.
Merle Haggard was the sage & chronicaler of the American way of life :) I miss him everyday! Try "If We Make It Through December", "Momma Tried", "Kern River" :)
Because you're giving our genre a chance; many of us (myself included) are giving yours a shot.
At times I truly feel my ears are going to start bleeding.. but I try it on 😆
Thanks!
My favorite country artist brought alot of rockers to country music 😮
I’m an old white guy ….. so glad that you relate to one of my favourite songs.
Thank you.
Thank you BP for this. and thank you to your dad for his service ....
One of the best loved country artists that was loved and respected by his fellow artists from the country genre, he was very intuitive with his music what a talent
This song is so powerful. I love that you try to find the 'we-ness' in all these songs rather than the divisiveness. You are a sweetheart.
You are the only "opinion" type video presenter that i care to watch. Your honesty, level headed reasoning is always spot on.
Thank you for the entertainment, but most of all, your rational comments.
