The GT3 will always be the dream, but it is nice to see that the Carrera T won't make you feel like you're settling. Especially when you consider the money saved. Great video Sam and nice save at the end!
I’ve owned my 992T for a month now. Spot on. Feels like an old school 911. No need for anything more. Followed your advice and went basic. All the better for that .
I've had mine since July and had G50 Carreras nearly half my life. I was afraid the new T would feel too isolated... too refined. It doesn't. It's a blast to drive each and every time yet I drive it each and every day. It's the best of all worlds for me. And thank you G50... you bought the new T for me. And for mine I opted for everything lightweight - Carrera Exclusive wheels (forged), CF roof, 4-way seats (35lbs lightener than 18 way), and... no rear steering. Interesting that since that decision the S/T came out... sans RWS.
I received my Carrera T in December and love it. I chose Chalk as the color and deleted the door stickers. Chose just a few options, mainly a few bits I wanted inside. It flies under the radar and I feel like I am driving the best kept secret in the Porsche 911 lineup.
I saw the bit sam was talking about at the start of the last pod. When the back stepped out and he nearly died but styled it out! 😂 what a legend for leaving it in. I loved this video.
Many years from now, when all the ICE sports cars are long gone, real car enthusiasts will look back on this 992 T and realize that this was the last real “pure” analog 911. It may not be too long if the next 911 will be hybrid. These T’s will be very valuable and worth a lot of money then, but, the car has to be spec’d right - definitely manual, no sunroof, and the less options the better. I do hope 2 things - that the T continues to be produced, and that it will not be hybrid. Knowing how Porsche does things, they will probably eventually discontinue this T trim out of the lineup. This 992.1 T is already pretty much perfect in my opinion so it is difficult to imagine what more Porsche can do to improve it. Cheers !
Still a turbo charge car, the sound isn't pure. If that suits you then great, but it not an easy 'classic 911'. It's the basic manual spec that does the job. But the price is ridiculous now, the older higher spec cars would be my 911 choice. I went with the 981S, more nimble, better sound, fully loaded for £35k
I drove a 992 T, hard, and echo everything you said. The winning formula is in its usability and you not caring about it as much as a GT3. Cars you can just get in, drive and have fun with no worries. One of my favorite videos you’ve made. Nice to see you sliding it too.
Seems like the Carrera T is the way to go for most mere mortals that can't pick up a GT3! I just can't bring myself to like the rear of the 992, the 991 is just so much better looking in my opinion. Lovely video as always Sam, nothing better than a new STG video on a Sunday morning.

Unless you must scratch a 911 itch (I’ve owned 5) or need rear seats the best Porsche sports car for the UK is a 718 GTS 4.0 Cayman or Boxster (looks better than a 911 cab). More powerful, N/A, lighter, smaller + £30k cheaper and soon to go the way of the Dodo which will make them rare. Great choice, to me the 981 s/gts looks better and sounds better still, I picked up a gully loaded boxster S for £35k, compare that to paying £120k for the T (bigger, heavier, turbo etc)

Fantastic review mate. I just picked up my 992 T in manual a month ago. I would argue it's more consistently fun than me 718 GT4 PDK for street driving. Purely amazing.
Sam, next time head to Zig Zag Hill. A really good road from the top of Bournemouth to Shaftesbury! It’s the B3081 and regularly get touted as one of the best driving roads in the South
I own a 2023 911 T manual in Rubystar Neo - fantastic car and a real hard core sports car unlike my 2021 Targa 4 with the same base engine. I also own a 2024 911 GT3 - shark blue PDK - fantastic car but different. The GT3 is a gal with tattoos and likes to drink and unbuckled your pants on the first date - before dinner at the Mexican restaurant. And your mom was not happy when she meet her n person. The 911 T is a gal with no tattoos, dresses 👗 pretty, and your Mom liked her when she met her in person / but still unbuckled your pants after you fed her tacos on the first date.
Brilliant storytelling and transitions in the first 3 minutes (and the rest of the video of course). You start by talking about how much you drive your GT3, then explaining how much further you drove your previous Carrera T. This gives credit to your opinion about the newest Carrera T (subject of the video) as you have extensive experience in the previous version. You then transition into your ad for the mileage tracking app, explaining how helpful it is when you do all the previously mentioned driving. Maybe I am high but I thought this was brilliant for some reason.
Ive been using a Fiat 500 Abarth as a courtesy car its too addictive to drive ! I randomly find myself getting up at 6am even on a Sunday morning to drive it on the village roads of Sunningdale and Virginia Water , some of the best driving roads ever are in my area
I have been following you since 2019 in another account....and I also follow your podcast....you are my favourite youtuber Because I just love your content... your modification on gt3 is very useful and practical not like other youtuber cut his own car and make it wide body ...I mean how can they cut their own cars ... By the away I love your modification... I am writting this because you are sad in podcast about the comments on your modification... But don't worry...we are standing with you very enthusiastically.
Really interesting video, I’m about to upgrade my 991.1 C4S for a 992 GTS, but this has made me take a step back and think about it a bit more. I need a daily, but a manual has been beckoning me after years of PDK or DCT cars, so maybe this is the answer.
I was in the same boat. I had the opportunity to test drive both and ultimately decided to go with T. The GTS is simply too fast and T allows for more engagement. GTS does however have better options list if you're willing to pay.
@@carterbliss484 Need the room as have a dog, so 718 probably not the car for me. That said, I know it’s a hell of a car, but I fell in love with 911’s over 50 years ago as a boy growing up in the 70s, it’s taken me years of driving practical performance cars to finally get round to owning one and I’m not ready to let go of that quite yet.
My rationale was the same to pick a Carrera T over the S and GTS since ultimately I want a manual. And I can’t afford a GT3. The only piece I disagree with is needing rear axle steering. I decided to opt against it to keep the driving experience as pure as possible. If the 911 S/T doesn’t even have the option to equip with RAS then I think the T will be fine without it too
I was debating this forwards and backwards. My T doesn‘t have RAS. Do I miss it. No. But I have no comparison to the same car with RAS side by side. I have driven the GT3 (double wishbones, much sharper and more precise, agile), a 4s Targa (heavier, pdk, 4wd more gran tourer, more turbo punch) with RAS but they are very different cars. My idea was to build this as a very analogue divers car. Steering is very good in my opinion.
Good to hear your experience. Unfortunately I never got a chance to test drive a T side by side with and without RAS. My car gets delivered in less than three months and I’m still confident I made the right choice leaving RAS out. I’m not saying it’s a bad option but I too wanted the analog experience (well, as analog as you’re gonna get in a 2024 car)
GT3 not enough torque in town either. GTS is perfect fit for my driving needs, and I'm happy driving it anywhere/anytime. That said, obviously with many cars and tracking, understand.
Someone explain to me why you would not spec the free rear seats in the 911T and just remove them yourself so you would have them if you needed them at some point?
I bought a 991.2 4S in 2019. It has sports chrono, rear wheel steering and all the normal trim you’d expect. The price was $124,000 or so. For grins I just spec’d a new 2024 4S and the price on Porsche’s web site configuration tool was $170,000. So, in a bit over 4 years they’ve raised the price $50,000! About a 40% increase - well beyond inflation. This is the cost of paying for Porsche to develop a bunch of EVs no one asked for or wants. And - there’s almost no 911 new inventory to buy. If you want a 2023 or 2024 911 - you have to buy a used one that’s been bought, thrashed with endless launches for a few hundred miles, and then flipped back to a dealer at a price premium. So, you pay a premium on top of an already inflated MRSP for a car that’s been abused by a speculator for 6 to 18 months. No thanks. I think I’ll hang on to my perfect 991.2 with 6,000 miles on it and maybe spend a few bucks on mapping and some money to track it - spare set of tires, truck fees etc - vs - getting ripped off on a model refresh.
I have a 991.2 GT3 Touring and a 992 GTS. Perfect combo. I use the GT3 for pure driving and the track and the GTS is the weekend family car!! So you can absolutely buy a T along side your GT3.
Great Video. Just goes to show you dont need a GT product to enjoy Porsche ownership. If a 380hp 911 can put such a smile on your face than so can a lighter mid engined Boxster S / Cayman / Spyder with 320/330hp. Dont let bragging rights get in the way of owning a great product.
I wished that @seenthroughglass as a former 718 Cayman owner, would have made the more sensibel comparison between the 992T and the 718 GTS 4.0. In every T review you see the comparison to much more costlier or unavailable cars, but there is a driver focused car in the Porsche line up, that is much more comparable in availability, costs, performance or even on the manual gear box. Even in your specific case, with a GT3 available, wouldnt a GTS 4.0 Cayman or Boxter be the better complementing car if you really wanted 2 driver focused Porsches? You could have 2 cars with a 4l NA engine and 6 speed manuals.
@@thefridgemanthey are toys, the 718/981 is a spors car for fun in the street and track. The 911 is a large gt car and doesnt offer much more for the road.
Sam, have been waiting to see if you were going to review the new T. I took delivery of mine back in the Summer and am loving it. It punches above its weight and more than the sum of its parts. My favorite 992 so far. Cheers.
Enjoyed this Sam. 👏Love the review with some key points for me. Im looking at 3 very different cars incl Carrera T so was soo good to hear your feedback. 👍
I think that generally, the 992 suffers from excessive roundness on the exterior. It is sporty, but lacks aggression due to all the rounded edges, corners and fenders. The Aerokit really helps break this up a bit and give a Carrera just a little more aggression that’s missing with the active rear wing.
Nice to see my favourite chicane (on a single track road) in the New Forest getting some air time. And did you know that the massively long straight nearby used to be a WWII runway? And you should have gone out to Compton Abbas air field (guy ritchie’s place) and tried ‘zig zag hill’ down the back side. It’s a favourite of the BOurneMouth Lotus Owners Club (BOLOCs) 😊
Next time you are nr Shaftesbury Sam make sure you check out Zig Zag Hill and the Compton Abbas flying club - great roads and great views/location for shots
Sam: "I never knew 380 odd horsepower can be so much fun...." You can even have more fun for for a lot less HP. Try the MX-5. The ND wIth only 181hp, gives the best bang for fun IMO. The NA with even less hp is even more fun. Driving fun is not all about power. IMO it's a combination of the right amount of power and handling. Then add a dash of drving skills & an open twisty road (preferrably smooth), makes for one great driving experience.
Mx5 is nore of a third car, which no longer makes it cheap over 2 cars. For me its a bit too small at 6ft 2, and doesn't have enough storage or comfort for weekends away with the mrs. If its a porsche the 981 S ticks all boxes for £35k, i got the boxster
The T is the drivers car. What are your thoughts on the standard stereo? Against the Bose? Agreed on the interior, keep it standard trim and spend the money on some chassis options. I also think the Configurator is one of the best any manufacturer has presented. The new Macan Configurator is very good. Speaking of which, will you be doing a video if you can get Porsche to lend you one?
Love the videos! Any plans to do a similar video like this in a 718 Cayman GTS 4.0? I feel like a CGTS 4.0 and a 992 Carerra T have a similar philosophy of that old school analog feel
very different cars. Drove both at a race track. The 718 fits like a glove (also tight inside, like a glove) and easy to drive even at 8-9/10. Somewhat "understeery" if you don't play with the weight transfer a little. The 992 T is in a different world. Much more grunt down, slinging out of slow corners, huge rear grip but at anything above 7/10 needs a good hand to guide it. Faster than the 718. Same noise from the inside. And much more space.
@@thefridgemanyou make a few good points, more fun to drive a slighly lesser powered car harder. The 981 S for me, sounds and looks better than the 718 4.0. More fun than and any of the newer 911's bar gt3 level. The other car is a model 3, if you fancy that torque grunt
Sam, your thoughts on the 911T make a great deal of sense. So after your video finished and I gave you my regular "thumbs up" I opened my browser to the Porsche Australia website to configure "my" 911T. Well it was base car in white (German racing white?) with TWO options: power steering and rear wheel steering, nothing else. The price on road (that's registered and ready to drive away) was (drum roll) AUD$335,615 - approximately half the price of my home!!! That my friend is 🐂💩. For less than ¼ of the price I could have a Toyota Supra, not as good as a Porsche 911T you might say but the Porsche is probably NOT four times better. This might make an interesting topic for your podcast.
If You want a similar car which will bring You lot of fun and smile - either buy used carrera t 911.2 - I owe one. You will have less plastic noises, old fashion dashboard and some $ in Yout pocket. Other option is new m2. More power, more comfort and lots of fun. 😊
Is it really fair to compare using Australian prices though considering how across the board insane they are compared to most of the other major markets?
Uh how is this relevant? Yall live a whole ocean away from Germany, of course it costs that much 😂. Cmon bro I know yall are desendants of crims but you're definitely smarter than that!
@SWatchik yes,, but he is comparing two cars IN Australian dollars....so the fact that it is Australian dollars doesn't really matter does it? Hmmm, I just checked and here in Canada the Porsche is CADS156,682 the manual 3 liter Supra is CAD$72,582.50, so it is only twice the price...I wonder why prices differ so much in various countries...
The problem with Australia is the luxury taxes they levy on things like a Porsche. Get a conservative government in place to get rid of those oppressive taxes 😊
Don't know if anyone else noticed, but thought it was interesting that Sam blurred out the Porsche logo in the footage from 1:05 when promoting the Shell app. I thought the GT3 looked weirdly modified and couldn't figure out what it was!
I genuinely think the GT3 (or the 911 S/T, essentially the purest GT3) is the absolute best sports car there is. But if you can't afford or can't get a slot for a GT3, I have no doubt the Carrera T is the next best thing.💛 Because as far as I remember the only difference between the T and the GTS is that the GTS gets more power (and fancier interior options) for A LOT more money! So I would just save the money and get a Carrera T, 400 hp is so much already 😂
i have a 987 boxster, and this dialogue of should i change should i stay is a constant of porsche ownership. I went from an MX5 into the boxster and it is a better car in every single metric. It is without a doubt the most complete and thrilling car i have ever driven, pretty to my eye, quick enough on greasy back roads, great on the motorway , sounds the tits past 4k rpm.... but it's nearly 15 years old and keeps throwing me 4 figure bills, and after a while you start looking in the classifieds at other porsches and playing with different specs, only to realise that i'd only try and replicate what i have. Moral of the story? Drive the piss out of what you do have and love it for what it is.
I get the standard Carrera being awesome in its lightness but how are the S or GTS more grand touring? Any variant is depending on the options to make it sporty or sportier right ?
Why would you say a gts manual with the lightweight package would be less pure? It's basically the same car, just with the gts influences in terms of engine and maybe the suspension is tweaked a bit different.
@seenthroughglass you should have just had your spec + the rear seats on one of these rather than a GT3 + I find the GT3 to track focus great if you do loads of track days.
Great video, Sam. I went to have a look at how much one of these would actually cost [not that I have that kind of money anyway] and it's Interesting how Porsche Germany and Porsche UK have a completely different configurator from Porsche Austria, the Czech Republic and others. Only UK gets loads of paint options and different wheel options on the Porsche website though. :D Guess you lot are the primary market for Porsche.
I've said this a million times Sam! I'm a massive Porsche nut... BUT... This yellow beauty... Makes me miss the little yellow Italian beast you once owned that cost waaaaay more than it should... But I loved it, and could not afford a set of tires on one let alone the car! The little Fiat 595 Biposto? was that correct? Anyway, miss that thing! xD
In the EU, the MSRP, these cars start at is ridiculous. I specced one up, pretty much the same way this car was, and it came out to, €164.00. For that money, you can easily but a 991.2 GT3. Or you could go for a 997 Turbo S AND a Panamera GTS Sport Turismo.
I think I speak for everyone when I say that there needs to be a Drive The World 2.0 in future

I have been following you since 2019 in another account....and I also follow your podcast....you are my favourite youtuber
Because I just love your content... your modification on gt3 is very useful and practical not like other youtuber cut his own car and make it wide body ...I mean how can they cut their own cars ...
By the away I love your modification...
I am writting this because you are sad in podcast about the comments on your modification...
But don't worry...we are standing with you very enthusiastically.
Great video, I love that yellow paintwork!
Really interesting video, I’m about to upgrade my 991.1 C4S for a 992 GTS, but this has made me take a step back and think about it a bit more. I need a daily, but a manual has been beckoning me after years of PDK or DCT cars, so maybe this is the answer.
do you need the room of the 4 seats? if not, look at the 718 gts
@@XxBadBoy1366xX I think as long as I can get the most comfortable seats a sports exhaust and a chrono pack, I’m not too concerned about options.
@@simonelliott5956 welcome to the carrera T club brother, it has everything you need.
I’m not saying it’s a bad option but I too wanted the analog experience (well, as analog as you’re gonna get in a 2024 car)
i hope you get your T very soon. Enjoy it and let us know what you think about the steering.
Or a 718 gts 4.0 manual for £55k near new?
GT3 not enough torque in town either.
GTS is perfect fit for my driving needs, and I'm happy driving it anywhere/anytime.
That said, obviously with many cars and tracking, understand.
Sam, long time viewer first time commentator ha.
I’m English but live in australia I just want to say keep up the good work lad.
I love the matching baby seat.
Someone explain to me why you would not spec the free rear seats in the 911T and just remove them yourself so you would have them if you needed them at some point?
in Python green and manual this car is just perfect
911T is a real enthusiast car, and the low end torque makes it fun at road speeds rather than at 8000rpm like a GT3
Yes I agree. Manual gearbox, not necessarily rear wheel steer (but why not), and maybe the lift. 😎
Couldn’t agree more…
Less is more💥👍

How can I help you ?
You cann't 😂
Sam how many cars have you had to buy to receive your GT3 allocation....now actual car?
Great video. I agree with your assessment of the T. For the money, it is the sweet spot. Cheers
I drove both, very different cars. The 718 GTS is like a toy, also nowhere near the 992 T in many important aspects.
Sam, you are the best car reviewer on UA-cam. As an American I can only hope one day you will review the highly anticipated Corvette ZR1.
Amazing to see how special this car feels coming from your GT3
Nice to see my favourite chicane (on a single track road) in the New Forest getting some air time. And did you know that the massively long straight nearby used to be a WWII runway? And you should have gone out to Compton Abbas air field (guy ritchie’s place) and tried ‘zig zag hill’ down the back side. It’s a favourite of the BOurneMouth Lotus Owners Club (BOLOCs) 😊
You know the best bit, at 17:41, even the door locks seemed to panic and flash
How about a 911T vs 718 GTS 4.0 Comparison? similar price point and I am undecisive between the two
Or a 981 S for £35k
Did you have video of installing the car seat?
You can hear the car's undercarriage and wheel wells getting filthy on the mud road, well done Sam
Next time you are nr Shaftesbury Sam make sure you check out Zig Zag Hill and the Compton Abbas flying club - great roads and great views/location for shots
Fan of your channel and podcast anyway but really nice video Sam! Great review.
All 992 are on 20/21 setup.
Your base was one size smaller because it was on winters.
First time seeing your GT3. Love the spec, especially the interior. Very nice!
I agree.
I purchased a 992 T last year PDK With rear steer. Got to say it is so more fun 😊😊😊
The first video i ever saw of yours was the trip to Austria in a carrera T
Glad you survived, Sam. We love you and thanks for your content.
I love the fact you brought up horsepower and drag strip times after the slander tesla has got for the cyber truck promotional video
I still think I would go for a manual GTS, you could get a low mileage example for the price of the T with options.
Love watching these on the big TV! Great episodes
Don't know if anyone else noticed, but thought it was interesting that Sam blurred out the Porsche logo in the footage from 1:05 when promoting the Shell app. I thought the GT3 looked weirdly modified and couldn't figure out what it was!
I can get 27mpg from my 997 with a 3.6 twin turbo engine on the motorway. So much for newer cars being better on fuel.
Beautiful car but........which moncler jacket is that? Haven't been able to find one with the build in hood and no "pocket" thing on the sleeve.
Surely a 911S with a manual gearbox would be much better with the larger brakes and a useful power increase?
Brilliant video . Think T feels like way to go !
Couldn’t you buy a carrera with isofix seat mounts etc for your daughter to be in front passebfer seat? And rear seats to put stuff ?
What's the name of that beautiful blue/greenish colour? The one on the Porsche at about minute 1. Keep il up mate!
I get the standard Carrera being awesome in its lightness but how are the S or GTS more grand touring?
Any variant is depending on the options to make it sporty or sportier right ?
Sam, how's dose this compare to a boxster ? Of the same year or older. Think rather have one of those . Here usa you get the cheaper with pdk.
Review no 49 (and counting) of the T which describes it as the 'pick of no-GT 992's!
I have checked my 2020 T output quoted is nonsense 412 on mine
The thing that makes the Carerra T really appealing to me is that you’re a $3k ECU tune away from 500bhp without voiding the warranty.
Really, how come the warranty is not invalidated?
@@simonelliott5956 If you go through manthey racing
@@simonelliott5956it is. Don't listen to them.
spoke like a true "americano".
Needing the bhp to do the pulls, "maann". Lol.
It would void the warranty
Why would you say a gts manual with the lightweight package would be less pure? It's basically the same car, just with the gts influences in terms of engine and maybe the suspension is tweaked a bit different.
The Alfa GTV at 15:19 would get my nod.
100% my thought! Love those.
3:08 bit of a pucker moment there, eh Sam?! 😂
Very enjoyable video thank you very much Sam keep up the great work
@seenthroughglass you should have just had your spec + the rear seats on one of these rather than a GT3 + I find the GT3 to track focus great if you do loads of track days.
Would love if you could get your hands on a GTS as well. It would make for a very interesting comparison.
I can't begin to think of how you would use a 7 speed gearbox? Is it bottom right?
Great video. Looks like the pick of the bunch
Your credit card statements will work also for that accounting but i get it Shell spinsored you so of course they arw the only ones who do that
My problem with the T is how expensive new 911s are in general in Canada. You can buy a GT3 from a couple generations ago for basically the same price
Anyway, miss that thing! xD
I’ve been trying to buy a properly specced manual 991 T for months in UK and frustratingly I can’t seem to find one.
Sam so good to see you enjoying a real sports car and not one mention of charging or EV’s 😂
E 60'000.00 ecotax (malus) in France for 194 co2 (g/km) and more is a deal breaker. GR86 same problem ! 😢
I think the best daily driver is for me the Honda NSX if you look for a sportscar
"I nearly died, I nearly died!! this made that car even better!!!" legendary
Buy what you want haaa gt3 have come to list and was not hard to get a slot. Was harder for a g4rs
