Spelunking Tour of Crystal Cave in Kutztown Pennsylvania near Pocono Mountains

Discovered in 1871, historic Crystal Cave is the first "Show Cave" in Pennsylvania. Located in Kutztown Pennsylvania near Pocono Mountains (about an hour's drive, a great add-on for any Pocono vacation). We took a guided spelunking tour of Crystal Cave which was both educational and entertaining, where we learned about crystals and cave formation, and the history of Crystal Cave where tours used to be 12+ hours long by candlelight! At the back of the cave they turned out all the lights to give us an idea of what it would be like for those original explorers if they ran out of flame and OMG it was PITCH BLACK - so scary! The crystal formations were incredible, we saw some stalagmites that had been sawed off to create safe walking paths, and some stalactites that original visitors had broken off, not realizing it would take 10,000 years for them to grow back. So sad! Have you been cave exploring? What caves can you recommend, for amateur spelunkers??

Fear and trying to do our best for ourselves and the community with the very little we were told 🤷‍♀️ it was a wild era for sure. 10/10 don’t recommend.
