I'm having fun with Tales of Symphonia. I'm pretty sure they will have a patch. Every Nintendo Direct after the Switch cycle I kept asking for this game to come on the Switch. Now let's see that we can get Skies of Arcadia.
There won't be any significant patches, this game is based on the PS2 version and the already available pc, PS3 versions. What you see is what you get.
@@pr6046 it's not a good remaster for any platform. It's based on the PS2 PC and PS3 version. Not the GameCube version. Namco bandai lost the source code.
I loved this game back in the day, when we found out it was a 4 player Co-op experience my 3 friends and I played the ever linving daylights out of this game, then Abyss, Vesperia, Grace's, and we ended it on Xillia. It really is a shame what Tales games are becoming. I don't think they will ever go back to the 4Player ever again. Which was why I loved em.
as someone who played the GameCube version to completion when I was younger and is now playing through the remaster i never noticed any difference in framerate or performance
I wanted to play this game back in the day, and didn't get the chance. Given I didn't experience the 60 FPS(nor really care about FPS unless it's super noticeable), I think I'll be able to enjoy this on the Switch. Not rushing to pick it up, but I do want to get sometime this year.

I just wouldn’t pick it up for the switch period. You can get it on pc , Xbox or ps4/5 now so if you have one of those the game has no performance issues. All the problems he mentioned in this video are switch only problems
I will be playing it tomorrow. It was in my Top 10 GameCube games for sure. I know this remaster is a letdown, but just to have it on the go, I’m still getting it. I wish it was done better like Metroid Prime but I’ll take what I can get. Maybe they will patch it up.
Get it on a sale or buy it used off ebay if you must absolutely have this game. Buying it new as is just tells them people are ok buying mediocre stuff
It's pretty sad that I can boot up ToS via Dolphin on my Steam Deck at widescreen 800p60fps and get a better experience than a "modern HD port" that Namco expects people to pay full price for. For comparison, even if I did the same with Metroid Prime, I'd still choose the remastered version on switch for the graphical upgrades, qol features, and a greater ease of use getting motion controls to work. THAT'S what people want out of a modern port
I love Tales of Symphonia but given this remaster's issues maybe I'll stick with my GC copy. Back when I played ToS I nearly didn't finish it due to save file corruption. I have bad luck with GC memory cards. Glad I pulled through and finished ToS. It is a great RPG.
@@mrHowlll yeah I've noticed that on some of my comments on various channels. Either someone said something really nasty so yt yeeted it or it was a bot and got yeeted. Either way Def stick to the GCN version.
The other thing to note is that this is Bandai's second attempt at remastering Symphonia. It was brought to the PS3 in 720p resolution. Not sure how the switch stacks up to PS3 specs, but that version also came bundled with the sequel.
Tales of Vesperia runs at 60 FPS on Nintendo Switch. This is very strange that an older game would not achieve similar performance however 30 FPS is not the end of the world. But having an inconsistent frame rate, that sucks.
This was the first Tales game I ever played and funny thing is; I bought only because a buddy of mine bought it and I thought it looked interesting. Little did I know that it would be the gateway for me into the Tales series. So to see these bad reviews really breaks my heart because I have such a soft spot for this game. Truly a sad day.
Still got the GameCube version. The PS2 versions also came with the gem mechanic fixed. You could just originally get all the moves no matter how you used the gems. It was supposed to be that you can only go down a certain path, and if you want to change the path you unlearned the skills. I am not paying that much for it, when I have the GameCube game and it has no real problems. This version just is not something I am willing to shell out that much for without some proper enticements. Metroid prime 1 makes me want to part with my money.
This is a shame. Last year I dug the wii out of my cupboard, bought a copy of symphonia on gamecube for £20 and had an absolute blast with it! Given the prices of a wii these days it'd genuinely be cheaper to get the console and a gamecube copy rather than this switch 'remaster'!
Looks good but not paying that amount for it right now...I'd imagine with the backlash it's getting it will go on sale sooner rather than later. That's what they do and I will just wait....plus Octopath Traveler 2 is almost here. I'll buy that instead right now.
I dont "hate" it and it looks BEAUTIFUL and i never had 60FPS so I dont miss anything here... but it DESPERATELY NEEDS TO PATCH: - drastic FPS drops in Desert sand or heat/magma or other effects. - absurd loading times - annoying white screen when battle starts Definetly inacceptable basics. But its in my eyes patchable and I hope they will solve it. In days where patch were not possible this would have never passed QA. Now with "patching" we can simply drop QA and just release and post patch in some months but first make the customer angry.
These issues are only on switch. This is the problem with you Nintendo Fanboys ,if you really cared about the game why not play it on LITERALLY EVERY OTHER CONSOLE smh
That 30fps is a big no for me I mean if the frame rate is still the same I can just play chronicles on PS3 with both games included...No way am I playing 30fps on a PS5.
I remember enjoying Tales of Symphonia on the gamecube, even though I've only played it to completion once. I actually still have a physical copy of it. I'm a bit disappointed that they couldn't figure out a way to make the ps2 version 60fps like the original. Kind of sad, but I'll probably just stick to the gamecube version. But like you said if it's cheap I might pick it up down the line.
If they increase the difficulty to make it where using all the cool combat abilities doesn't just make you OP this would be a great game. I almost quit playing because of that around when you get to a new area I think right before Colete (that was her name right) gets her wings.
Perfect timing! I loved Tales of Vesperia DE on the Switch. Was looking forward to Symphonia, but won't pay more than 15-20 Euro physical if they keep combat at 30 fps.
Reason why Bandai Namco used the PS3 version for the remastered port was cause they lost the source code for the GameCube version thus why they couldn't use the GameCube version for any future remastered. It's the same reason why we never seen a Panzer Dragoon Saga remastered. If Bandai Namco wants a Tales of Symphonia in 60fps they either had to remake the game from the ground up or find those lost source codes. Same thing for Sega as well, if they want Panzer Dragoon Saga, the game either had to be remake from the ground up or Sega had to start spying on their employees to see if anyone steal the source codes or not. Also the reason the PS2 version is running the game at 30fps instead of 60fps was cause the PS2 clock speed is much lower than the GameCube. PS2 clock at 147 Mhz while GameCube clock at 162 Mhz so TOS had to cut back most of the framerates in able to keep the full game intact while adding a few minor contents.
Man, I remember renting this game like 5 times from Blockbuster as a kid because I enjoyed it so much. My parents got me Dawn of the New World for the Wii a few years later, but I still never had the original. About 4 years ago, I found a complete in-box copy at a used game store for 20 bucks and instantly picked it up. Never got around to replaying it, so when I heard about the remaster, I was beyond excited. Bought it because I figured it had the potential to be a limited run game. Was going to play it after finishing Hogwarts Legacy, and then Prime remastered, but now...idk... I might just dust off my old Gamecube and replay what is to this day one of the games I'm most fond of.
TBH you may as well play both versions, if you can stomach it. The GameCube version is superior in many ways, but this Switch/Playstation version does have a lot of extra costumes, skits, attacks for the characters, enemies, etc. only in that version. There's also a terrible glitch in the Switch version where some of the English dialog is cut out! So yeah, I'd recommend playing GameCube more, but the Switch version has exclusive content too.
@Aninymouse interesting, it's on my backlog still, so it's gonna be a little while before I can get to it. Hopefully by then they implement some patches!
I love this game! It's the first Tales game I ever played. I was deployed to Germany when I first played this game. I also have the PS3 remaster version of the game too!
I probably was 12 when this came out and i always wished for an rpg like pokemon but with combat like a fighting game. So when this came out i needed it asap. And the story was more mature then anything i played before this.
Played this through on GCN loved it my real first action based RPG, so much fun!! Sad to hear the remaster is not the greatest but anyone on the fence just do it the game is worth your time. Also, the disk for GCN is extremely expensive.
I wonder if the rumors I've heard of them losing the GC source code are true. That would explain A LOT. But then at that point I almost wonder why you wouldn't just wrap an emulator shell around a modified rom of the GC version and ship that instead. Sure it's not technically "running native" but if the product is higher quality at this point who cares? It's clear the PS2 version of the game isn't up to snuff
I know its more work, but if they lost the code then I wish they should've just did what square did with Kingsom hearts and FF8. Just build it from the ground up again.
It's good to hear where they ported the game from, I heard someone get it wrong and say they ported the Steam version. I beat the game about 11 times and I really wish the developers put some effort into the remaster, it's painful to see it at 30 FPS and the fact that they seemingly slowed down the Toize Valley mine which was already tedious.
I'm not saying I ever shattered a bunch of protective cases around resold games in a parking lot outside a Funcoland and then bought a Dreamcast for 29 cents after trade in... But I'm not not saying it...
I took a chance and bought Tales Of Symphonia for GameCube and after putting maybe 15 or so hours in I just quit. Same thing with Chrono Trigger or many of the Mana games I just get bored and loose interest mindlessly hitting attack. It's weird too because I love Zelda but there's puzzles and things to break up the monotony or keep you engaged while many others do not.
That game was great. Just Bandai Namco want the money without the work! Great theme song and ending is interesting. I played it on the GameCube. Rented it at your local Movie Gallery which is dead now.
I mean I personally wouldn't care if they just straight up ported the PS3/PC/GC version without making any changes (sides upscaling if they did the GC version as PS3/PC already got that done more or less) as that would help further with game preservation/bringing it to new audiences (like the many people that don't play PC/don't have a PS3/GC) however it should've been priced appropriately for a 20 year old game that already got a remaster when this remaster added almost nothing...it should've been $20 or a bit less and absolutely no more than $25. The ONLY justification for this $40 or even up to a $60 price point would've been if they added Dawn AND Phantasia Nakiri Dungeon X (best version of Phantasia on PSP with a lot of new content and of course localized it and KEPT all the skits this time (GBA, only official version of Phantasia, removed all optional skits from the game to make it wasier to translate)) so that we'd have all the games that occur in the Aselia world. Sides that the ONLY other way to justify a higher/standard price would've been if they went with a full on remake of the game (granted has it's own issues such as that would likely mean content would be removed such as some optional locations, enemies that don't have a model in any recent game, some minor side quests/storyline, etc and more likely than not they'd need to replace all the VAs due to either them being too high budget now that Namco won't want to use them OR they have either retired/passed away in the years since Symphonia first came out...and personally I never liked anyone's performance that voiced Lloyd after Scott Menville and I cannot see anyone but Cam Clarke playing Kratos tbh)...it also probably wouldn't take them a few more years to do something like this so they probably should've aimed for the 25th anniversary in 2028 to celebrate Symphonia again with such a remake (other main reason they likely chose Symphonia this year was cause it's the 20th anniversary for the game and Japanese fans/devs love to do stuff for 10 year anniversaries for whatever reason...while we do anniversaries too in the west it's generally the first 10 year and then the 25th and every 25th year after that we celebrate (i've never really seen anyone celebrate the 20th, 30th, 40th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th, etc for anything in the US in grand fashion...at best maybe birthdays (granted that's a yearly thing) but other occasions not really at all sides the first 10th/25th/every 25 years after the first 25th). The game's my favorite game of all time and I want to play it handheld however I'm gonna be waiting for a price drop to 20 or less before I pick it up (have too many other new games I also want to buy and not enough cash as I used to either).
It's a game that was originally 30 frames per second just because I take a game and bring it from 3260 doesn't always help the Gameplay at all in fact sometimes that causes problems that's the reason why they keep it at its original intended framerate because that's how the entire game was based around running on said framerate. It kind of runs into the same thing we're better graphics don't necessarily make a better game... all them great graphics are there but they took so much else away from the game to give you those better graphics for 30 frames per second being moved to 60 frames per second they would also have to cut a lot out. Why can't you people ever just be happy with what you get when you ask for remix you get remix you guys ask for older games to be brought into our systems and you get that maybe sometimes they have to be brought over and their original Glory from the previous system and that's fine. It was the original frame rate on the original game which is where you've gotten your original Nostalgia from for it play it in its original form and stop fucking crying about it
Tales of symphonia remastered is the steam version What you get remember originally games are made in a computer in the 1st place when they're developed then they're reconfigured and retreat to run on whatever system they put on so they can understand the system and it's controller To realize you're not running off as device with a keyboard To play a game realizing you're actually on a home so they make minor tweaks And people shouldn't complain About If symphonia remastered
Every remaster of this game thus far is based on the PS2 version, with minimal improvements made. The fact that the original release is still objectively the best way to play is a big problem on Namcos part. Here's to hoping that Baten Kaitos is treated better.
People that I've heard hating on this is because it is the same port we got on ps3 with nothing new added from what I've heard and as such it is only 30 fps. Pair that with the fact the ps3 version came with Symphonia and it's sequel and this version is just the original Symphonia game without it's sequel.
I bought it on PS4 and I play it on my PS5 it runs very well and looks beautiful to me with fast loading times. I love this game and have it on GC and PS3 as well. It's my second favorite RPG of all time and I actually enjoy the remaster. The battle and everything looks fine to me, I'm not someone who cares a bunch about fps unless it looks like a PowerPoint presentation. I haven't reached Triet yet, so let's hope that the PS4 version is better in this regard also.
This is such a shame to hear, I was honestly hoping to have the Remastered version on my Switch to play someday but it seems that I should just play the GameCube version if I ever want to replay it.

I only bought this game because Metroid Prime Remastered sold out everywhere but on Amazon where it was $89.99-$99.99. To be fair, every store in my city only had one copy of this game left in stock so it's selling out nearly as fast as Metroid Prime Remastered is.
My issue with this re release is that it's a lie. They call it a remaster and pretend that they actually added anything but in reality they didn't. It's like they hope we forgot we had a hd ps3 version that also came with dawn to a new world. This game was just simply not needed.. I would of rather have tales or rebirth... tales of destiny dc.. heck even tales of destiny 2.... these games are great and deserve to reach audiences in the west.

3 years ago I bought it on Steam and it was really buggy. After 2hrs I walked away. Then I hear it was getting remastered for the Switch and I was hyped, until this video. Almost pre-ordered it too. Glad I didn't.

They must've lost the original GameCube source at some point. Is the only reason that everything has been done from the PS2 version since then. Especially in Japan, they did NOT preserve their old stuff very well. I mean, I get it, they probably didn't think it would ever come up again... But now 20 years later, it's really hurting them.

I've heard Beseria and Arise were good.

as someone who played the GameCube version to completion when I was younger and is now playing through the remaster i never noticed any difference in framerate or performance
I wanted to play this game back in the day, and didn't get the chance. Given I didn't experience the 60 FPS(nor really care about FPS unless it's super noticeable), I think I'll be able to enjoy this on the Switch. Not rushing to pick it up, but I do want to get sometime this year.
60fps is very noticeable when looking at fast paced gameplay
YUP! I 100% feel the same way. I’ve loved every tales of game I have played thus far.. but have never played this one specifically. It looks cool to me.
@@Ihatevideogames334 It's okay to have different preferences and opinions when it comes to video games. While some people may enjoy certain games or game developers, others may not. It's important to remember that everyone's tastes are different, and that's perfectly fine.
I just wouldn’t pick it up for the switch period. You can get it on pc , Xbox or ps4/5 now so if you have one of those the game has no performance issues. All the problems he mentioned in this video are switch only problems
@@DingoOnMy40 nah the dude is just a troll with bad taste lol
I will be playing it tomorrow. It was in my Top 10 GameCube games for sure. I know this remaster is a letdown, but just to have it on the go, I’m still getting it. I wish it was done better like Metroid Prime but I’ll take what I can get. Maybe they will patch it up.
Get it on a sale or buy it used off ebay if you must absolutely have this game. Buying it new as is just tells them people are ok buying mediocre stuff
Spoken like a true SIMP SHILL
I ended up cancelling my preorder. If they lower the price or patch it good I may still pick it up now. I loved this game on the Gamecube.
Spot on, just said similar and I also am picking up physical Metroid at launch.
I love Tales of Symphonia but given this remaster's issues maybe I'll stick with my GC copy.
Back when I played ToS I nearly didn't finish it due to save file corruption. I have bad luck with GC memory cards. Glad I pulled through and finished ToS. It is a great RPG.
Switch is pathetically weak.
Weird. It says I have 2 replies but I can't see them. Oh well.
@@mrHowlll yeah I've noticed that on some of my comments on various channels. Either someone said something really nasty so yt yeeted it or it was a bot and got yeeted. Either way Def stick to the GCN version.
Its really bad
I’m expecting mine to come in today. I saw someone’s play through and was shocked on how bad it was.

Okay I know this sounds crazy... but I've been loving this. I didn't go in expecting anything, and it's been a blast
The updates made this nearer to the GameCube ver.
Looks good but not paying that amount for it right now...I'd imagine with the backlash it's getting it will go on sale sooner rather than later. That's what they do and I will just wait....plus Octopath Traveler 2 is almost here. I'll buy that instead right now.
Apparently the source code was lost for the original GCN version, so likely no 60fps ever incoming...
The other issues are just depressing.
This happens all too often I feel. How do you lose a damn game. Lol
okay RGT you keep saying you're not a nintendo youtuber, but the cold truth is that we are all here for your nintendo content.
It's very sad for a game of this high quality. Personally I played on steam and it worked smoothly. Totally recommend playing on steam
I dont "hate" it and it looks BEAUTIFUL and i never had 60FPS so I dont miss anything here...
but it DESPERATELY NEEDS TO PATCH:
- drastic FPS drops in Desert sand or heat/magma or other effects.
- absurd loading times
- annoying white screen when battle starts
Definetly inacceptable basics. But its in my eyes patchable and I hope they will solve it.
In days where patch were not possible this would have never passed QA. Now with "patching" we can simply drop QA and just release and post patch in some months but first make the customer angry.
Sad that the performance issues are so prevalent, I wanted to get this but it's not worth it if it doesn't play well
@@Ihatevideogames334But I love Final fantasy but I’m picky.
These issues are only on switch. This is the problem with you Nintendo Fanboys ,if you really cared about the game why not play it on LITERALLY EVERY OTHER CONSOLE smh
Don't forget, this game along with Symphonia 2: Dawn of New Age also came out on PS3 as Tales of Symphonia Chronicles!
Yup, so them rereleasing Symphonia alone for the same price (if not more) as they did Symphonia Chronicles is infuriating
I had bought myself a DS when I was deployed....when they first came out lol. That was 20 years ago. Holy sh*t.
I have the GameCube and ps3 versions of this as well. So yes ill be getting it on ps4 though not switch.
@@veevendetta3448 20 years ago? How? The DS came out in 2004.
You glossed over skies of Arcadia way too fast. That was by far the best RPG of that era.

🤔 it’s definitely top 5
I probably was 12 when this came out and i always wished for an rpg like pokemon but with combat like a fighting game.
So when this came out i needed it asap.
And the story was more mature then anything i played before this.
Played this through on GCN loved it my real first action based RPG, so much fun!! Sad to hear the remaster is not the greatest but anyone on the fence just do it the game is worth your time. Also, the disk for GCN is extremely expensive.
I've played Tales of Symphinia on Nintendo GameCube, and I bought this game on Switch just the other day! I'm so happy to buy it!
After experiencing a gazillion fps it's hard to play anything under 60.
I know its more work, but if they lost the code then I wish they should've just did what square did with Kingsom hearts and FF8. Just build it from the ground up again.
That's exactly what TOS Remastered was supposed to be for Bandai Namco. Just a cash grab after Tales of Arise's success.
This looks like a straight port of the PC version released eight years ago. Then charge three times the price of that version. 🤷♂️
7:32 "i'm not into pee" neither am i
I’m just happy to have access to the game again.
I picked it up physically at Just Press Play and I think it plays decent, I originally played it on the ps3
After Tales of Vesperia I think I had to also pick this one up :D
I'm not saying I ever shattered a bunch of protective cases around resold games in a parking lot outside a Funcoland and then bought a Dreamcast for 29 cents after trade in... But I'm not not saying it...
My favorite NintendoTuber back at it again with another video 😉
Ps3 remaster is the best way to play these games
I took a chance and bought Tales Of Symphonia for GameCube and after putting maybe 15 or so hours in I just quit. Same thing with Chrono Trigger or many of the Mana games I just get bored and loose interest mindlessly hitting attack. It's weird too because I love Zelda but there's puzzles and things to break up the monotony or keep you engaged while many others do not.
I never played this series but I want to give it a try but after hearing the performance issues, I pray that they do a patch.
I doubt
Tales of Vesperia Definitive Edition is a blast. Highly recommended. Battle runs at 60fps
Such a shame. I canceled my preorder of this because I had too many things preordered all coming out at the same time kind of glad I did now
Short answer: because its easier to hate than to understand
The worst is the dead silence from Bandai Namco...like if they would just acknowledge this problem and try to fix it!
I think I'll wait till the game gets an update that fixes at least most of its problems.
People forgetting that this version of ToS already came out for PS3 and PC... and it includes the sequel, and trophies/achievements, and is cheaper.
Every remaster of this game thus far is based on the PS2 version, with minimal improvements made. The fact that the original release is still objectively the best way to play is a big problem on Namcos part. Here's to hoping that Baten Kaitos is treated better.
@@Ihatevideogames334 cool
People that I've heard hating on this is because it is the same port we got on ps3 with nothing new added from what I've heard and as such it is only 30 fps. Pair that with the fact the ps3 version came with Symphonia and it's sequel and this version is just the original Symphonia game without it's sequel.
Supposedly they lost the source code for the Gamecube version.
Rob the reason why blockbuster went out of business. Thanks Rob
Skies of Arcadia on Switch would be a dream come true.
As much as I love TOS, I would rather play it via dolphin than get the switch version.

This is such a shame to hear, I was honestly hoping to have the Remastered version on my Switch to play someday but it seems that I should just play the GameCube version if I ever want to replay it.

I played it on the GameCube. I played it on the ps3 . and I'll play it again on the Switch . it is still a wonderful game .
Honestly I don't think games are the issue nowadays it's more the players in general being extremely spoiled now. Like, I get pointing certain things out, but it runs fine on xbox. These people just don't know how to game anymore.
Just emulate. I have a 250 dollar pc and I can run Tales of Symphonia on dolphin at full frames 3x resolution. Whats the point?
