  • Lake Malawi is everything I had dreamt of an more. First introduced to Lake Malawi as a child reading an Africa picture book, my visit here is the culmination of 40 years of wanting to see the Lake for myself. We are staying at Blue Zebra lodge, a luxury camp on placed on an island. Arriving two hours late for our rendezvous, we narrowly miss our ride to the island, so my first impressions aren’t what I hoped they would be. But the island is truly magical, and Kate and I take canoes out onto the lake to look for some illusive rare fish.

Our expedition concludes just outside of the Lower Zambezi National park, camped at Mvuu (Hippo) Lodge on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River. kate goes fishing while I talk about what a rich, learning experience Zambia and Malawi has been.

Do you color correct the sky with your video editing software? or does that beautiful blueish/purplish/reddish haze at dusk occur naturally? Africa is definitely on my bucket list.

No. Never. I sometimes use an ND or graduated ND when shooting. Never a use color graded filters and in post production I blacken the blacks and whiten the whites. But add no color.

A question: Doesn't it significantly reduce the overall longevity of your car battery to deplete it all the way like you mentioned in either this video or the previous one?
I accidentally killed my car battery twice by leaving a dome light on, and on a recent off-road trip I killed it again just by charging camera batteries for a couple hours. (We too, of course, had an external jump-starter to restart the car.) I plan to replace my battery before my next big off-road adventure.

Batteries do develop a memory, but not that quickly. We have 2 series 24 batteries on s trailer that have been drained dead several times but they still top out at 14 v +. Replace if you want but 1 out 2 drains won't kill the battery.
