I had a laundry list of mental diagnoses and all are gone now after almost two years of following Eckharts teachings. Biggest being the ongoing anxiety attack which required the heaviest meds. I have not had any meds for over a year now. My psychologist who watched me go through this life change responded with, "I can retire in peace with you". ie I graduated. Thank you Eckhart for sharing your ideas. Your viewpoints really saved my life. My old way of living nearly killed me many times over the last 40 years. I am finally awakening to life and living in reality. I am so grateful to finally have peace and joy in my life every single day, even the more challenging ones.

same, these ideas that Tolle patiently comes back to, the words used to not absorb, they bounced off surface mind, then after being at a kind of crossroads, by reading listening to CDs of him 10 yrs ago, i started trusting him, letting the ideas sink in & also Byron Katie, when im in the midst of noise, ( voice in head,or world around me) it doesn't mean that stillness does not exist, it can't not not exist.
also, they both, Tolle & Katie, teach, & u can sense in them, a spaciousness, when i open to spaciousness, conflicting ideas are like ants on a leaf, with out spaciousness, everything is like train track loud, intrusive, insistent, & ever urgent....our natural at ease state is spaciousness 🌱🐾👣🌿🕊️

Thoughts that are out of alignment with our Higher Self will always cause a negative emotion, which is your guidance system telling you that the thought is out of alignment with Creation and what will benefit you and others, to mention that the thought will create a negative experience that is not enjoyable. This is why in my experience it is important to only give energy and focus to the thoughts that resonate with heart and soul at a deep level. Great video Eckhart! You cannot control outside events, only your thoughts about these events. We might get a little frustrated with bad weather (rain, snow, etc.) at times but we don't really think, "why does this happen to me?", we just accept it. Applying this same reasoning to other outside events can make all the difference in your happiness and sense of peace.

I’d like to say something to people who are suffering from severe anxiety and depression (from my own experience). Even if your condition is mostly physiological (and the effect is psychological), how you think greatly influences your body chemistry. It can absolutely raise your physiology into a healing state. How far you go is up to you, but never think you are hopeless. One small tip I’d like to share is to embrace your situation (even if it’s very painful) no matter what you’re going through. This can have a dramatic impact, as your body begins to reinterpret your experiences and sees that your situation is not hopeless.
Tolle’s tip here about awareness noticing the mind creating a narrative is subtly profound and very helpful (even though he’s talking about those who only have everyday anxiety, which is very different from the more extreme versions). Noticing your mind creating these stories will help to influence your physiology and change your chemistry, so much so that it’s possible for those that are severely debilitated (even physiologically) can start walking back into healing.

@@lizzettorres1111 No problem. And I’m not saying everyone is the same, or my solutions are the same as yours, but I hear you and this is just my experience.
I was stuck trying to control the anxiety for decades. The reason I spent decades there was because I was trying to fix the anxiety and depression itself with strategies, but not even understanding why I was experiencing it in the first place. The only way out for me was to release control and embrace whatever happens. Controlling is fear. It’s like trying to look for a rock to cling on to when you’re adrift at sea. As long as I was trying to look for something to hang on to, I knew I would always be coping. That’s when I started letting go. Its the scariest thing. People have no idea how bad these experiences can get. But that’s where I learned the most about myself. Being willing to step into it instead of pulling away. That’s where understanding started coming to me and doors began to open.

@@NemeanLion- Thank you for your advise, I know how to let go and I'm working on that, I'm also aware of my thoughts and I've heard about stepping into it but I don't understand what that means, there's another exercise or practice (I can't think of the word) that's kind of like that I don't understand either. What do you mean by "stepping into it", if you don't mind.

    • @NemeanLion-
      @NemeanLion- 2 роки тому +4

@@lizzettorres1111 My interpretation of “stepping into it” is basically to stop running/controlling and face whatever you’re afraid of. It’s a matter of letting go of the security that you’ve been clinging on to. You may not even know what is causing the anxiety at this moment. Explore it. I didn’t know for 20 years. I just thought I was afflicted with “anxiety” and I needed to find a way to control its tricks. The problem is the condition worsened the more I kept coming up with solutions to control it, until my physical health completely broke down. I was actually being my told my problem in hidden messages for years, but was unable to see.
If I could suggest just one thing though, please remember this……you are the guru you’ve been searching for your whole life. Your journey is your own and is unique. All the answers you are looking for are within you and no one else can solve your riddle except for yourself. Every time your reach outside yourself for an answer, you create more separation and with separation comes fear. Go within.
Anyway, please take my advice with a grain of salt. Use it only if it resonates with you. I am no more of an expert than anyone else in this world. I just know how much pain is involved in these conditions and if I can shed even a little light to help someone, it makes me feel good.

Depression is ALSO a result of a serotonin levels. Sometimes it has NOTHING to do with situational things.
I am currently recovering from a depression that was induced by a chemical change in my brain. I withdrew from an antidepressant that was prescribed to me NOT for depression but for pain relief. After weaning myself off I went into a full blown depression.
It was a blessing because now I fully understand depression is sometimes a physical disease. Even though I knew what was happening, I had no control over the thoughts that played out in my head, or my lack of energy, or my disinterest in life and people.
I can say that prayer did work, as did exercise.

Aha, intresting. So the moment if i think this is good or bad, i lie, or deny what really is happening.
So the moment i say "i dont know why i feel bad" i've already created the lie over it... already created a NEW dialog from behind the backdoor. Im starting to see it more and more the more i suffer again the same mistakes.
So the dialog is very tricky if it comes from the backdoor.
It creates lies or storys as you call it so easily and you get drawn in even before you notice it.
I love the advice you gave that how would i experience this moment without thoughts.
And also to simply not deny whatever you are feeling, just to let it be.
It makes clairity and it kills the depression, honestly.

Is it better to be blissfully unconscious of our thoughts and be run by our minds autopilot ideas, opinions and beliefs, reacting to them totally emotionally day after day as many people do, or is it better to be aware of our minds every thought, opinion and belief so as to be able to think, feel and act totally consciously for ourselves? Mental health struggles usually lead us into becoming much more aware of our minds thoughts and to us eventually learning how to separate ourselves from our minds which of course helps us recover, but it also leaves us with constant awareness of our minds each and every thoughts.
Freedom from the minds autopilot conditioning is a truly wonderful thing that I am very grateful for but sometimes there is a strange nostalgia for the simplicity of the autopilot life before I became unwell. Yet another reminder that like everyone else I'm very much a, work in progress 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏🙏

You don't have to stop your thoughts. It's the job of your mind to create them, please be kind, they are not your enemies. But you don't have to believe every thought, that's in fact challenging... Perhaps sometimes it might work for you to be just aware of them and notice that you are far more than your thoughts.

@@lizzettorres1111 you don't sound crazy at all you sound perfectly normal to me. We suffer because we think our minds should be different to how they are, but we can not possibly know what is normal because we can not experience any one but our own minds and thoughts so we have nothing to really compare our minds behaviour too. Your life has been different to mine and you will obviously have different memories and had different experiences to me, so naturally the contents of your thoughts will be different to mine but if we could swap minds for an hour I think we'd both agree that both our minds work spookily similarly ways. Before we realised we sometimes struggle,, did we always simply struggle unconsciously? Being aware of our thoughts sometimes feels like a negative but actually it gives us the opportunity to choose our reactions rather unconsciously be controlled by them 🙏🙏🙏

Whatever works best for each person is right for them, there are many paths to the top of the mountain as long as we all reach the summit, does it really matter which path we take? . It's only people's egos that insist, their way is THE WAY.
Person A, "I suffered fo 80 years and struggled badly throughout those years but I was determined to not use pills and to follow a spiritual path, and now today on my 100th birthday I've finally cracked, and I'm now free to enjoy the rest of my life "
Person B. I struggled for 1 year and then my doctor gave me some medication that worked wonders for me and the last 79 years have been fantastic, today is my 100th birthday too and I'm celebrating by going on romantic weekend with my partner and we are definitely taking the do not disturb sign with us 👍👍👍

But I still have day to day issues I deal with. Medication is NOT a "cure". Unless you are struggling with psychosis ie bipolar/schizophrenia...don't get your hopes up

@@Nickshreds890 as far as side effects, the struggle is real. My doctor forgot to refill my antidepressants for a week. Within two days, severe depression hit me like a sack of bricks in the face. Not to mention the physical withdrawal ie the dreaded "brain zaps." Yeah.
    Deep.
Maybe it works when my nose itches,
or I am impatient standing in a long line.
But try to not listen to that narrative at a death of a relative.
Try to accept the situation without the narrative in a hospital bed without a limb.
Try not to listen to your narrative in a bomb shelter of a war zone.
Or just losing anything what is important for you.
Where you are insecure or weak.
And, maybe ... maybe you still will be able to do that.
    (In very rare cases.)
But what you will get will not be a life after that.

I think you may be slightly misunderstanding the point Eckhart it making here. Indeed, the types of situations you listed often bring us into the present moment so intensely that there is no room for the egoic voice in our heads. The same thing happens with more positive events too, like traveling to another country or learning something new. The idea of “flow” points to the same thing if you’re familiar with that.
