My grandparents trained hunting dogs when I was young. Never saw a bird dog attacking people. Young dogs can be rambunctious. I would say it was very poorly trained. You also don’t take young dogs on an actual hunt. We would take a young dog that had been trained to point and retrieve with a couple of experienced dogs. We would train them using quail that we raised. Some times you got surprised. But them would eventually learn from the other dogs. My grandparents raised field champions.

She had other options like putting the puppy for adoption or taking him to a shelter. It is unthinkable to know that someone that lacks ideas could be the governor of South Dakota.
The problem is that it wasn’t really a choice between the dog and her kids. She had options to at least humanely get rid of the dog. The disturbing part is that the dog probably thought it was going to play right up until she executed it.
