Having watched this one for the umpteenth time, whilst at the same time watching a video I took of myself at the range on Saturday, I can now see what you are talking about. Apart from having a not so good leg action, it looks like the weight is into the toes of my lead foot at impact and I'm having to whip the club across the line right at the bottom and rapidly shut the clubface over to stop an almighty slice. Good job I can chip and putt with a driver swing like that. Great content as always Stu. Thanks
I’ve watched a lot of UA-cam golf pros and this was an eye opening moment. Makes me feel better that my over the top club path is easily fixable if I get the pressures correct. Thanks for this
So many believe over the top is a hard error to fix, but as you now know, it’s super easy. I’d check out my “Over the Top” video for more insights. Best wishes Stu 😊
I have begun watching a multitude of your videos over the past week, (perhaps, too many tonight) & am incredibly impressed. Your concept, while similar to Christo Garcia’s ‘over the top’ concept, is explained much differently. I luv the “lorry” (aka, semi) with the cab & trailer analogy (in your other video) & this video’s swing path analysis. You are dismantling many of my previous notions of footwork & leverage. I’m looking forward to getting to the range! Thanx!
Thanks Dave and welcome to the channel my friend! Really lovely to have you here and if you have any questions along the way please don't hesitate to ask! Stu 😊
I love people like you. You've just passed down specific information NEVER mentioned anywhere. For me, the movements of the feet during the back swing/down swing just gave me a clearer understanding of what I haven't been doing. I've seen hints of such foot pressure movements by the pro-golfers but didn't know how or why they do it. It was subtle, so I didn't pay attention to it or value it...UNTIL NOW! Thanks to YOU!
I haven’t seen any of your content before but the the way you described the importance of pressure in the feet I have not heard before. Makes a lot of sense and gives a more tangible reason to put effort into making these moves.
Well, firstly, welcome to the channel! Hope you find time to watch a few more and they help your game improve Mark. Any questions along the way be sure to ask, always answer and help/advise where I can. Best wishes Stu 😊
Stuart, you just angered 100s of coaches around the world, especially UA-cam coaches, when you said, if your instructor tells you to swing more from the “ inside” put your club back in your bag and go find another instructor. 😂 Way to go, always tell the truth, no matter who you annoy. This is what I love about you. Yesterday, when I was practicing, I noticed that I was hitting balls to the right and could not figure out what I was doing wrong, so I slowed my swing down and noticed that I was trying to swing from the inside and my club face was open. As soon as I stopped thinking about swing from the inside, my path changed, my club face started to close, and the balls started to go straighter. Keep telling us the truth and teaching us, with science, about how the swing really works. Btw, your swing between 2 balls is fantastic, it’s a drill I use every time I practice, and it has helped my ball contact tremendously. Thank you so much! Cheers.
I’m tired of the same old problems and it’s about time we change these poor patterns that I see as huge influences on people’s enjoyment of the game and enough is enough, or else people won’t understand the importance. I really appreciate the words of encouragement, and great to hear your golf is on the up and up! Best wishes Stu.
@@roadtoscratchgolf3481 I believe you are correct in saying that Stewart just angered hundreds of coaches around the world. I really believe most coaches know this information but neglect to share it because it’s the key to the whole golf swing. Why would anybody want to watch them afterwards knowing the secret? The truth is once people know the secret they’re going to continue watching the person who shared it with them. People love honesty, straightforwardness and someone who has a genuine desire to help others.
Visually your swing is brilliant and that view from the top the real key cos that's what a golfer feels mentally when they swing. Your right arm wrist and elbow pivots are perfection and the new to the game amateur can see the fulcrum of the right arm on backswing transform into the guide hit around that path and left through impact. Of all coaches on UA-cam only Zach Allen comes close. I always use your swing as the model reference cos it's that good. Your coaching skills in terms of explanation are a little too complicated but it is a very complicated athletic move with most golfers very uncomfortable with the unknown of the 90 degree rotation back and 90 degree through so they fight that rotation but you teach that this rotation should eventually feel natural. But this is not a criticism but a praise indeed. You certainly are very passionate about what you do and you do it extremely well. Instead of paying a block £3690 for a six lesson spell with Pete Cowan school of golf I'd rather come to you. Will learn how much your lessons are and look to see you next year for some one on one lessons. Great stuff and thank you so much for this free content...it has proved invaluable indeed.
Hi Michael - appreciate the kind words and taken on board your thoughts. Not easy making a complicated game simple, I try my best to water down to the essentials, I know you aren’t being critical but I do try to make my content for all levels. Hope to see you in the future my friend. All my details can be found in the description of all my videos. Best wishes Stu
Hi Stuart, I've been following your content for 2 to 3 weeks now and I have seen an increase in my enjoyment of the game and an overall new level of consistent strike, heck I'm taking divots sometimes for the first time in my life! I am yet to see the scores come down but I can see that over the next few weeks that will start happening on its own. Specifically on this video I always struggle with out to in and this is exaggerated with driver, my biggest weakness. In this video you analyse how foot pressure dictates path, lightbulb moment for me as it makes so much sense. You say weight towards the heels would encourage a more inside path, I like it. In my swing I think I fall into my lead toes from the top of the back swing and sort of get stuck there, so moving back into my left heel is something I want to work on when I next hit balls. However towards the end of this video something you said confused me where you seem to say pressure in lead toes for longer gives an even more inside path? Hearing this makes me worry that my intention for my next practice could have negative implications on my game. Could you shed some light on this? Thanks so much for the content. Great stuff. Better than the other GARBAGE out there.
Hey Adam - as an excessive outside in golfer, drop the last comment for now, work on the lead heel pressure for now and we can reconvene on my last comment further down the road. Just an FYI, holding pressure in the lead toe can keep hips shut for a little longer while the arms lower, but this mean more speed to heel to straighten path. Stick the heel pressure for now. This will help you far more. Hope the makes sense. Best wishes Stu
@@GoodGolfCoaching thanks for the reply Stuart, will work on that pressure moving towards the heel. Hoping for 36 holes tomorrow then off to North Berwick over the weekend for the Scottish Open, then Troon for The Open on Wednesday and Thursday. Big week of golf 👍 🏴

You don’t make my brain hurt to think of everything as separate concepts, you coach the best full swing I’ve ever felt because it makes it much easier to repeat! After re-watching many of your recent videos (I’m probably on 3x or 4x now haha), I’m starting to put the whole swing together as one movement and it feels glorious. So grateful to the high praise you’ve extended to me; I’ve loved every second of the UA-cam journey and can’t wait to see where this all goes. Thank you for watching all my content and hoping it makes you play the golf of your dreams. Best wishes Stu 😊
Great video! The ball on the wall and the forward bend made perfect sense for what you are trying communicate! Through 30 years of struggles, I believe you have convinced me sticking my rear out for balance and to keep my spine angle consistent is key for solid strikes to target. When I saw the push to the right, your lesson hit home! Thank you, Jeff
Thank you so much Jeff - really happy the light bulb came on and the road, for now at least, is a little less foggy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and thanks for being part of the channel Jeff. Best wishes Stu 😊
Stuart, on your just letting it evolve short of the junior golfer and the way he slings his relaxed arms via hip rotation and an abrupt kind of putting on the brakes to snap the hands at impact. I have been going back and forth on pulling the hands down and slinging the arms down and finding greater distance with the latter. Could you talk about this sometime, as we all are trying to get more distance in our golf swings? Thank you for the video, I have hit my irons quite straight but my attack angle is very slight, hardly taking a divot. I will concentrate on keeping my rear from moving forward. I wonder if a stronger attack angle would help me compress the golf ball more for a better distance? Going back to review your attack angle video, sorry for the lengthy reply.
My junior was to demonstrate juniors need to learn to move and not position the club. The “sling” as you put it is only down to strength over weight (weight of the club) to get this as an adult, you’d have to play with a sledge hammer which is why I have done the “Broom” video, this will give you insight into what the junior feels. If you’re straight, with no attack angle, no divot, you’d be a high spinner, short hitter and high shot golfer. Only way you can hit more down and NOT his it right is to in “some way” make the club face stronger. Hope that helps. 😊
Finally. even as a coach and a ex tour professional, i have clocked the idea of being too far inside thanks to this video. Thank you, I will relay this to my students who have been swinging it with a path left due to the hooking issue, to get this to enhance their game further.
Wow, i think for the first time I really understand what I need to do for an inside path. I have struggled to get the club coming from inside consistently and under pressure usually fails. Thanks for the info and the drill!
I applaud you for a direct approach to what really should happen in the golf swing. Ben Hogan said that the secret was in the dirt, which was his way of promoting foot work. Being in balance by using correct footwork and the importance of the correct placement of the hands on the club were the other two ingredients. I think you demonstrated all of these so well.
Interesting your interpretation of Hogan’s digging out the dirt; really enjoy hearing your thoughts and hugely appreciate you sharing them. Thank you also for the very kind words about my video. Best wishes Stu 😊

Hey Clint, hugely appreciate the most generous feedback, I really do. Do let me know how the golf progresses and if I can answer any questions please let me know. Best wishes Stu 😊
I’m currently working my way through all of your videos. I found the broom series very informative. I’m adapting my left hand grip to the orientation you recommend. I’m just getting to the range to practice and already see an improvement in my consistency. It’s work in progress but I do have your teachings to refer too. Much appreciated. Clint
I have been hitting pull hooks, after slicing for years, golftech lessons to stop my over the top move started the pulls, after watching your vid I used the right heel left heel motion, BAM straight shot, I now am starting to trust the shot and aim a little more to the right and let my driver draw. I have always feared aiming right even though im hitting pulls, strangest fault to have, but your right, when i aimed right i hit a slice. you were talking directly to me! I feel as though i am leaning on my left heel and pulling through the shot. im 63 i had put up the driver, so glad to get it out, strange issue still, I hit my 5 wood off the ground with this method about 200 yards I still only get about 220 with a driver on a tee, not sure if i can squeeze out more from my driver but i enjoy trying. Thanks again
Love to hear this Rick, thank you so much for sharing your experience. Watch my “driver versus iron swing” video for some important insights on how to optimise your driver efficiency! Best wishes Stu 😊
OK I watched that so I’m gonna try this tomorrow. If I comprehend that correctly my hands must stop at my crotch and kind of flip the driver from there.
Really enjoyed your video. I've heard about foot pressure but how the bottom of the spine works is a new one on me. Learn something new everyday! Good day, sir!
Thanks Tom - glad you enjoyed. Check out my “You Must Pull The Club” video and you may learn a little bit more. 😊 Thanks for commenting! Best wishes Stu.
Im looking forward to trying this at the range; Mike Malaska talks on this and insists this is the only correct way to compress the ball but i found the explanation on how to do it difficult to understand, this video explained is brilliantly. definitely going to work on this.
I'm not familiar with Mike's work but sounds positive. The only way, not so sure, one of few that creates compression and straight shots, yes. Let me know how you get on Ian! Best wishes Stu
Thanks for this you are the only one I have seen say pull on the club I have felt this is what I needed but my coach wants me to allow the club to fall which I cannot do or understand how to do it.I look forward to golf today to try it out, subscribed and will go back and look at your previous videos.
Thanks so much Garry - head over and watch my “Lag” video with Sergio Garcia on the thumbnail and the “you must pull the club video” these two will be essential viewing for you. Best wishes Stu 😊
You’ve got more “Golden Nuggets” than KFC. I think the information about the contact or pivot point being the bass of the spine is a wonderful lesson in itself. Thanks again. W
Haha thank you Warwick, I’ve always longed to be a golden nugget 😂😂 - your support and kind words for the channel are as ever appreciated. Best wishes Stu 😊
Stu, could you do a video following up on your ‘bowing the left wrist video’ - the key concept I feel is both interesting and important being how the cupped left wrist works through and past strike - for a ‘strong grip’ guy, the cupped wrist, un-hinging through impact, with the handle moving ‘low left’ never felt like it could work (and I was trying all kinds of crazy, non-rotational - flat wrist at the top nonsense, in order to fix it) post our chat, I can now retain the cup and let the ‘heavy end’ swish - please share the insight you gave me with your viewers. Dunc
Hey Dunc - 100% will cover this. It’s a great topic and one people really move away from in recent years. Thanks for the suggestion Sir. Best wishes Stu 😊
I can say I have never thought about my foot pressure being toe or heel until this video. I struggle with a hook and a pull hook and am always trying to figure out if I am over the top with a closed face or too far from the inside with a closed face. This make me change club path on my takeaway often creating inconsistency across all my clubs. Not sure how I apply this but feel it is relevant even for us hookers of the ball.
Hi Jason - lovely to hear from you Sir. Often, the most severe “bend” to the golf ball in the sky is inevitably the club face orientation and not the club. If, you have a big hook I would initially look at your grip, Dave can either be too open or too close to hit a hook, contrary to popular belief, so please, watch my grip series and you may unearth some faults there. Thanks for commenting and being part of the community. Best wishes Stu 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching Day 1 improvement was 50/50 between great on-course strikes vs misses. 30 minute range session before hand. Used my Ping stand bag to simulate swiss ball for practice swings. Day 2 will be Wednesday. Cheers Stu !
Just incredible stuff! Well done, once again! I know that my path is out to in, and I’m losing angle of attack (I wont use the word lag or shaft lean haha)because I pressure into my left foot too late. It feels as if my body doesn’t incentivise the pressure , like it can’t translate the pressure going back (towards the swiss ball) into force on the handle, if that makes sense. Can anyone else relate?
Hi Stu: I really enjoy your content and I have been watching for about 2 weeks... I have a question, you talk about the release of the club with the driver, sand wedge and flop shot being the same or similar; and that makes a lot of sense... My question is with irons, do you still release the club the same, just later in the swing?
Thanks so much for watching my content, I would encourage you to watch this video for the answers to your question - ua-cam.com/video/Rjf0S4SRzNM/v-deo.htmlsi=gdxPApxAV0hZoPeN
I am a bit confused… at the start you showed that pressure in the heels helped with inside track. Then at the end you showed how keeping pressure on the left toe got more “inside”. What did I miss? I usually have a path way to the left for a right handed golfer… where should I feel pressure to help straighten this path? Thanks! Like the content!
Hi James, have you watched much of my content, or is this your first video. Please go and check out my broom series of videos my friend, will make so much more sense when you watch the broom videos. Let me know if you have any further questions! Best wishes Stu
This is what I think. This tip totally makes sense. With any club you do the same thing. If you look at Ernie Els swing slow motion from the back, you can see that the butt of the club points towards the ball on his downswing. What you should aim for, is the club parallel as the hands come back to centre of your body and try and compress the ball with 12 degrees of shaft angle, then a divot. The other thing is, when you take the club away on the backswing, note where the butt handle of the club is, it’s pointing towards the ball so you need to bring that back to a similar position which will happen naturally and you should hit the ball square on and gives you room to sling the club through to release. Look at slow motion videos of the pros, and copy them, because they are the bench mark. Video to watch is Ernie Els swing in slow motion and you will get that…ah ahh moment. As he transitions, the butt of the club starts moving in that forwards/ down movement which all the pros do. Another way to think about this the downswing is coming down on a smoother/ correct plane. That’s my view on this subject. Just one last thing, on the downswing try and aim the butt of the club at the ball as this will automatically get the club in the right position.
13:06 the grin on your face when you just decide to zero out your swing for the demonstration 😂. I bet the haters in the comments don’t have that kind of control
I’ve been super lucky there are few haters on my channel, I’m sure they will pop their heads up from time to time but I do enjoy demonstrating my thoughts on the game with some success 😂😂
@@GoodGolfCoaching it’s funny in almost every video that I’ve watched from you I was trying to swing in the way you recommend not to. And it was all info I had gathered watching countless others. It hasn’t worked for years however and I’ve been unable to get that inside out swing so it can’t hurt to try and approach it from a different perspective can it 🤷🏻♂️
This will totally depend on the full structure of your spine and what all segments create at the lumbar region. Just apply posterior or anterior tilt without seeing you would be wrong of me. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu 😊

Interesting your interpretation of Hogan’s digging out the dirt; really enjoy hearing your thoughts and hugely appreciate you sharing them. Thank you also for the very kind words about my video. Best wishes Stu 😊
Great comprehensive overview. Thank you!👍🏻
Thanks a lot Chris - hope you’re well Sir. 😊
Watched this lesson Monday. Hit the SIM Tuesday. I hit every club better than ever. I mean every club. Thank you sir. Oh yeah and the grip change. My goodness thank you.
Music to my ears, truly. Love hearing my golfing family play better golf. Nothing gives me greater pleasure, thank you so much for sharing. Best wishes Stu 😊
great insight and description....learned more in 14 minutes than in 30+ years.....
Music to my ears Ron - welcome to the channel Sir. Best wishes Stu 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching all I've ever wanted was to play to the best of my ability...(some years ago had numerous rounds in the 70's ) ...but then some kind soul tried to help and all went pear shaped ..have been struggling ever since and at times had considered packing in as was getting no enjoyment anymore.....now I understand better...
Let’s get you playing the golf you deserve Ron! Glad you’re hear my friend and thanks for sharing your experiences. Best wishes Stu 😊
This is probably the most informative golf lesson I’ve watched. Excellent content.
Clint
So kind Clint, thank you Sir.
I play golf three times a week and hit balls every day,
Your instruction makes more sense than anything I’ve ever read or watched
Thanks Rick - really appreciated Sir.
Great explanation and demo. Love the Swiss ball to drill feel
Thank you Kevin! Much appreciated Sir.
That was a great demo ,,hope Barni is behaving ,,see you soon Graham🎉
Thanks Graham - he’s doing amazingly well. Can’t wait for you to meet him!
Anouther brilliant insight,, this is becoming the best channel on UA-cam. Thank you. China Mike.
Thank you Mike, high praise indeed, of which I am very grateful. Will endeavour to keep bringing the best of what I have. Best wishes Stu.
binge watching your videos before the range tomorrow, trying to absorb and try out all these concepts. great content
Thanks so much George - please let me know how you get on!! Bet wishes Stu 😊
Best stuff on UA-cam thank you, do you ever get to the States? Would love to take in person lesson.
I do remote coaching via Skillest if that interests. skillest.com/app/profile/stuart-cartwright
You’re amazing!
Thank you Jim, much appreciated Sir.
Thanks Stu, for what you do - this video cements in what we discussed in our lesson last week - cheers, Dunc
My pleasure Duncan - really pleased you found it useful and helped with the visuals of our objectives.
Awesome lesson thank you for sharing your insights of the golf swing- Keith
My pleasure Keith, glad you enjoyed!
Just brilliant 👍
Thanks so much Dave!
LOL @ "Bloody shaft lean!" Well done, sir. Looking forward to getting to work on this one.
Haha glad you liked that, drives me mad! Let me know how you get on Will!
Absolutely Chris - the load of left late in the back swing is the catalyst for reaction of the left leg in the pull phase of the down swing!
Great formation Stuart!
Thank you so much, hugely appreciated. Best wishes Stu 😊
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Roger, much appreciated my friend! Best wishes Stu
@@GoodGolfCoaching thanks stu. 👍
My pleasure Roger
Stuart can you show me what your left wrist position at impact looks like please.
Please please watch my “Power at Impact” video Johnny.
Great video!!!
Thanks so much Joe, kind words Sir. Best wishes Stu 😊
It hasn’t worked for years however and I’ve been unable to get that inside out swing so it can’t hurt to try and approach it from a different perspective can it 🤷🏻♂️
I predict great things my friend, let me know! Can’t wait to hear all about it.
Love the vid just a quick question. Do I put any pressure in the pelvis at address? Just a little tension?
Pressure in the pelvis, are you referring to pelvic tilt?
Yes. Is that how you use your pelvis at address. You put it in to position? Or just leave it alone?
This will totally depend on the full structure of your spine and what all segments create at the lumbar region. Just apply posterior or anterior tilt without seeing you would be wrong of me. Hope that helps. Best wishes Stu 😊
Hallo, so when you see too much abend in the sky to the left you might either weaken your grip, and, or pulling more, or thraighten your left leg earlier? Best wishes Peter
Peter you’re absolutely spot on my friend, or even a touch more wrist extension through strike. See my video on “power at impact” for further insights. Best wishes Stu
Make good sense
Thank you so much!
I dont know how to add pressure on the handle at impact any feels to help with this
Hey Sal - no issues at all; I have done a video with the thumbnail “YOU NEED THIS DRILL” - will explain all you need to know Sir. Best wishes Stu 😊
@@GoodGolfCoaching you need this drill
Yes Sir.
much better video, you don't have to insult other instructors to make you point.
I’m glad this video didn’t annoy you. 👍
It should have been lesson 1 after the grip
Haha 😂 if only it were that simple for everyone
I do not get it your point how to swing after watching your entire video.
Sorry to hear that. Best wishes Stu
Thank you so much for this. I've been trying to force an inside path and I'm having a terrible time.
My pleasure BT - let me know how you get on please, and good luck! Best wishes Stu 😊
