Why do so many "reformed"pastors in this day take a "yes-but" stance against much of what Calvin said. Are they really that superior, or was Calvin off onmuch of his interpretation?

I am sure all these men put themselves at Calvin's feet.
These men have 500 more years of the Church addressing error with many gifted men, (e.g. the Puritans). On top of that, we have far more tools to study, with an unprecedented ability to access knowledge. One of these men mentioned that Calvin had little to no access to the writings of the saints before him, but was left to exegesis. That is very impressive, as was noted by these men.

@@larryhelmuth691 the growth of the church and understanding of God's word made more clear is never an excuse not to recognize the value of how God worked in his people in the early years. Did Calvin know all truth--NO---BUT NEITHER DO THOSE THAT ESPOUSE THE MODERN MIND AS "THE" AUTHORITY. You must have noticed that the shift of emphasis between his time and ours has changed. We are more interested in individual benefits of relationship. Calvin stressed covenental interpretation that found its center in Christ'-worked out in His collective body
      P.S. appreciated your response.

Precious. "You get two baptisms if..." got me cracking up. On public transport. Holding back a laugh turned out to have same effect as holding back a cough, nowadays, my eyes teared up, people looking at me in pity 😂

What was the modern translation of Calvin’s commentary on Romans that Ligon mentioned?

I believe Ferguson said, BannerofTruth publishes Calvin's sermons but there is also a doctrinal book called "The Institutes."
Ligon said, get the modern translations by Calvin on the Gospel of John and the letter to the Romans from RutherfordHousePublishers.

I desire mercy and not sacrifice...they sacrificed that man...they never showed him the love of Christ that would have persuaded the poor man...they judged him and sent him to hell..,no saving for that sinner...they moved as in the old covenant.

I don't worship Calvin I worship Jesus. Until you get firmly and absolutely grounded in the gospel the reformers are irrelevant. Stay with the gospel or you'll drive yourself and the flocks looney with concepts like predestination and you'll get stuck with people questioning you instead of praying to God themselves. Like predestination and Judas or Esau, they was just screwed from before birth. Forget the religion of it all and stay with Jesus because in any case that is the answer and why Judas and others ended in error, because they didn't.

The word *Godhead* in the bible does not mean there is a trinity with God the Father as the God head of the trinity.
The word *godhead* should not be capitalized; this is already deception.
The word *godhead* means having divine nature, such as living in godliness.

You know what I noticed about the wise and the learned their always talking about other “wise and learned men” while Christ church becomes Calvins church and Calvins doctrines and Calvin this and Calvin that...is it Calvins mind or the mind of Christ? I’m getting almost weirded out almost like hearing about that lady from the Seventh day.

How narrow minded are these fundalmenlist views points to have someone burned at the stakes if people dosnt agree with the main stream. Jesus said love your enemies. He did not say burn them at the stakes, or suggest a faster method by beheadings
Even to say that heresy is even a great danger in todays church circle.
Just about all modern church docteines is heresy when its compared to what Jesus said in the gospels.
Jesus never mentioned original sins, nor born with Adams sin nature.
Neither did Jesus teach on the trinity.
Who died and put these guys in charge; it definatily wasnt Jesus.

I suppose you don't believe that Jesus was God in the flesh, as he claimed to be.
      Everyone goes after Jesus.
      Heresy is the greater danger.
Nothing could be more important than where you spend eternity.

      Merry Christmas!
Matthew 1:23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
John 10:33 The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”
John 20:28 Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
Col. 2:9 For in Jesus dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
      I Tim. 3:16
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.
      Even God called Jesus, God.
Hebrews 1:8 But of the Son He says,
“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever,
And the righteous scepter is the scepter of His kingdom.
Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. As a man, Jesus ate, thirsted, slept, wept, prayed to God and died.
As God, Jesus rebuked Satan, forgave sin, performed miracles, accepted worship from the people, raised the dead and even raised himself from the dead. John 2:19
Jesus said your sins would not be forgiven if you did not believe He was God.
John 8:19 So they were saying to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father; if you knew Me, you would know My Father also.”
24 Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”
