These Yales are usually really dampened for feel, so well done!

Thank you! It's funny how different they both feel from each other too

The bigger one gives some nice resistance ;). Nice looking pair of locks. Cool video and picking Lock Noob, as it shows the difficulty you can have with keyed alike locks. Noticed this myself too.

I almost didn't include the raking vid as it was giving me so much trouble... But I thought it would be more honest to show how different two locks that are the 'same' can be. At the time it was pretty frustrating though! :-s

Nice persistence. Those keyways on those Yale padlocks can be extremely tight.

Thanks. It's not my best picking... It would have been better if I'd not been so overconfident after the first lock and stopped! Pride comes before a fall etc. Still, it proves a point about how all locks are different and how persistence pays off

Dumb question but does this have security pins? (Edit: just saw super secret bonus time, no spools!) Been really struggling with mine. Can get it into a false set but then nothing moves. Also you said you used a euro hook, does that mean it's 15 thousands thick? I've been using a Sparrow tron to try and avoid over setting.

The euro hook is a profile by Sparrows that I used in 0.025 👍

    Thank-you.
Thanks also for your tip about inverting Abus locks to rake them open. One of my identical locks opens with a Sparrows City rake, and the other opens equally quickly with a Sparrows Bogotá. Neither can be opened easily with the other tool. Next step is to learn how to SPP them!
I've noticed that, when raking some locks, a very deep false set can be obtained. If that happens, counter rotate the core gently, with the rake removed, and then open the lock normally.

heh... my pick just geeps getting stuck on pin 3, jams in so I have to release tension. new at this so... practice, but I am using sparrow picks too, just think I have a prickly lock! oO

I just picked one of those on amazon, arriving in a couple of days. Do you remember if it has any security pins? Because I see in one comment reply you say it has a few spools but then in another comment, another guy says it has no spools. I would apreciate if you can clear this doubt :)
    Thanks
Edit: just got my lock, and got a very normal bitting :( the first two pins at the same level, the next two slightly lower and the fifth pin is the higher one. Let’s see how I do spp it, hope itMs not too easy

I just got one of these Yale y110/40
I was wondering, since im rather new I still use my beginners toolpicks Daniu (something) and they feel a bit big for these kind of locks?
I have very little room for the pick when I insert the tension tool.
What you think, is it even possible with that kind of tools?

I'm currently trying to pick that smaller Yale. Just wondering if they have any security pins?

    • @LockNoob
      @LockNoob  5 років тому

Yes, some nice little spool pins :-)

I bought three similar Yale brass padlocks recently to practice with but I haven't been able to pick any of them, although I can usually open them eventually with sufficient rocking/raking. I am yet to observe the "counter-rotation" that spool pins are supposed to perform which tells the picker what they are. I'm a beginner with the Southord PXS-14 set. This is what they look like: imgur.com/a/C93Kcg0
On the other hand, I can easily pick my Master locks, (Excell and number 3) and an assortment of other padlocks.
How should I proceed with the Yales?
