  • QUICK TOUR of our little Home on 4-wheel drive - you can find the in depth complete tour, both interior and exterior, of our Toyota land cruiser Prado overland camper build here : • TOYOTA OVERLAND WALK T...
    Our vehicle is a 2005 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado KDJ120 which we nicknamed Toto' and we self converted into a mini camper by our own in 2016 before leaving for a Round-the-World Overland Expedition. Starting from United Kingdom we drove all the way to Japan then down to Australia, we then shipped our vehicle to South America and completed the Pan-American highway in 2 years reaching the Artic Ocean and the northernmost tip of Canada. in 2021 we plant to reach middle east then work our way down to South Africa.
    Our Toyota land cruiser 120 camper may seem small compared to classic vans and bigger vehicles but it offers everything that we need. This vehicle is also known as GX 470 in other countries (like the Lexus gx 470 in the united states) and our setup is good for touring, overlanding and camping .
    We try to live a life as much sustainable as possible and we also talk a little bit about sustainability and conservation in our video. We describe the solutions we have adopted and the choices we have made according to our type of overland travel.
    This is how we have been living in our car for the past 5 years.

    Great video!! You guys are doing some real awesome stuff. So for your battery charging you only use the alternator and solar panels? How does the charger drain the battery more, is it not as efficient to charge? Just wondering because I would like to know how to make the most efficient and easy battery set up. Thank you!

    • @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng
      @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Vader 7, so sorry for the late reply ! Thank you so much for your Compliments ! so, about our set up, we wouldn't have any problems , especially with our solar panels (320 W in total, but 100W dokio could do just fine). We could run the fridge for 3 days stationary and still have enough power to start the car. Charging the mobile phones and drone batteries it's also not a problem, the big problem we have is when using our laptop to edit videos, I have a software ( very heavy ) that sucks up to 6amp xhr when I create the videos for youtube and most of the time i can work on it for 6-8 hours. This is why we need the extra solar panels, usually i connect 220 W that generate up to 10 amp x hr so i am covered while using the laptop (6amp) and the fridge (3amp). This is the full tour of our car ua-cam.com/video/JWOoodCGiKU/v-deo.html to make your set up you need to understand how many ampere you will be using in your vehicle. Here a video about solar that explain how to do the calculations ua-cam.com/video/ZmTD6ElNjik/v-deo.html
      Hope this helps ! Cheers :)))))

    From your experience around the world with that vehicle, on many kinds of land surface, which one will you recommend? Gasoline or diesel power? I mean from economic side or capability.

    • @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng
      @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng  2 роки тому

      Hi Rusdy, We haven't been to Africa yet but they told us Diesel is easier to find there, about the other 5 continents we always found both diesel and gasoline as fuel. Regarding the capabilities, we believe that a diesel vehicle will burn less fuel as it runs on lower revs and also provides more torque compared to a gasoline powered engine. However with that said if you compare a 3.0lt Diesel with a 5.8lt V8 gasoline probably both torque and (depending how fast you drive) fuel consumption could be similar we would stick with diesel... the big commercial lorries are all diesel as well as working machines , cargo ships and so on... probably diesel is the best option for durability. We do have friends travelling around the world with gasoline powered toyotas and jeeps, ultimately is the driver choice. hope this helps. Cheers :))))

    Hello friends ! For now, when you have some experience , can you please tell me how much money do you need for a year to travel around the world for both of you (maybe if you have time some little details ). Thank you very much , good luck and i keep watching you ! All the best !

    • @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng

      Hi Adrian ! Hope you are well, to travel around the world for a year you need from zero to 1billion dollars, it depends on what you do, where you go, how you do it and what level of comfort zone you want. Sorry but it's a too much wide question and it's really personal because everyone travels differently. About us we count on a few hundreds of euros per month and this keeps us going travelling in a minimalist way. Hope this helps 😊

    Amazing Video. Couple of Questions if you dont mind. do you have insurance on your vehicle, and is the vehicle registered in a EU country that requires it to be tested every 2 years. ?

    • @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng
      @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng  2 роки тому

      Hi Anthony ! Sure no problem and thank you so much ! Yes , of course we are Insured, and we insure our vehicle on a temporary basis according to the country where we are, same goes for the testing, we test our vehicle everytime law requires it under temporary import regulations (obviously we keep our vehicle in top condition regardless of the testing required by law, that's about keeping a reliable vehicle especially when you are in difficult off-road situations and you need it ) I'd also like to mention that once you leave EU, European regulations do not apply, and depending the countries where you are travelling to, you may need to test your car twice in a year or once in 3 years, hope this helps ! All the Best !! :))))

    Hi guys, I was hoping you could tell me what sort of fuel you use for your Coleman stove. I have one currently but was weighing up whether it is better to use a propane burner instead for our long travel.

    • @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng
      @ALVETOEXPEDITIONeng  2 роки тому +1

      Hi there, e have been using white gas for several years, camping stove fuel in USA and now in the middle east we just completely swapped to unleaded fuel, the stove is working like a champ. It's a bit time consuming to get it going because of the red flames, but once it's hot, it cooks perfectly. Propane burner, depending where you travel, it can be difficult to source the Gas, as well as the different attachments. Hope this helps ! Cheers and Safe travels !

    I'd like to know about your fuel consumption as well, it's good wanting everyone to live and treat the Earth in an environmentally way but usually those who preach are backpackers or else drive very economical vehicles, not diesel off Roaders...unless you have a very good reason such as being disabled and needing a large 4x4 then it's a bit hypocritical isn't it?
