  • Welcome back for another Game of Thrones video. Today I will be talking about something that has fascinated me for quite some time. In this video, we will take an inside look at Game of Thrones' disastrous unaired episodes. Some of you might not know this, but Game of Thrones was nearly cancelled before it ever aired it's first episode. David Benioff and D.B. Weiss ran into major issues while making the Pilot Episode for Game of Thrones. They had to do rewrites, reshoots, recast characters, and so much more! It was a disaster. HBO did end up giving them another chance. Thankfully, they got it right the second time. Let's look at some of the mistakes they made. Leave me your thoughts down below. Thanks for watching!!

Even though I completely agree on the story arch point and I hate how rape is "normalized" on TV. But she DOES get raped in the books as well - for many nights after the wedding night (don't have the books here, but there is a scene where she is glad he "takes her from behind" so she can muffle her cries in her pillow). And I just don't see why the wedding night should be different. Would Drogo have stopped if she didnt say yes? Dont think so, especially since he doesnt seem to care afterwards. Did she want to marry him in the first place? Nope, forced to (so even if she consents to the wedding night, because she kinda has to, she didnt consent to the wedding). So one way or another, she was raped by Drogo. And I think that this is the only point were GRRM failed to create a realistic scenario or understand a girl in that situation (with all due respect, but it reads itself just like an old man fantasizing, because he does not know how it is), thats at least what it is to me.

      @@raevis9 You raise a good point about GRRM and his exaggerated fantasies removing the reality from the moment in question. But it is different in the books, because it shows us Daenerys finally taking charge and proving she's no longer the afraid little girl she starts out as. She is becoming the confident and powerful dragon queen we come to love. But in the show, they portray this in a completely different way that I felt didn't align with her character's storyline and felt insensitive to any rape survivors watching the show.
      I feel the same way about Sansa's rape scene. Sansa was raped in the show because D&D wanted the drama of that. In the books, the plot Sansa suffered in season 5 happens to her friend, Jeyne Poole, who was basically cut from the show. Rather than reintroduce Jeyne, D&D shoved her trauma onto Sansa without considering its greater ramifications.

    Just like the best parts of the Lord of the Rings--the most loved and remembered parts--are not the cgi, the action sequences, the fights, but instead are the parts taken the most directly from the literature of J.R.R. Tolkien, his language even; the best parts of GoT are when it brings the characters to life, understands and represents the storytelling dynamics of the novels. It actually bothered me a lot that they omitted the scene where Dany jumps the horse over the fire, because it was a bonding moment for Dany and Drogo that helped her feel a little safer. Dany goes into the marriage wanting to please Drogo, and they fall in love much quicker. The TV series made it much more "rapey" for lack of a better term, and I thought it was unfortunate. Yes, Khal Drogo was a beast of a warrior that took what he wanted, but he grew fond of Dany fairly quickly in the books, and I didn't like how they stretched out the awkwardness between them in the show.
    For instance, their first night together. In the books, they ride away together just the two of them and spend the night in a tent. Dany is a virgin, so it is noticeably tense, but somewhat passionate. In the show, Khal Drogo takes Dany down like some brood mare, and it just felt very disrespectful to their story.

      If you read the books, the fate of Danni is evident from book one. Remember Cercei telling Tyrion that Gods flip a coin with Targaryen children? The Mad King was also a good ruler before he went mad after being captured and tortured. Even Bran´s vision of the future, I don´t remember which season it was (maybe 1 or 2), showed a dragon burning King´s Landing. This is how the books will end as well. And Bran being the King was also planned from book 1, there are a lot of hints. However, what I trust Martin to do is to tell the story right so that it will make sense.

      @nailjaumbatova4947 3 роки тому +6

      @Allan Ros I agree for the most part, except her fate was established by Martin from the first book. There were obvious signs. So it´s not really the showrunner's fault and I think the ending makes sense. It should have been stretched out over several episodes, maybe a season and then it would have made sense. But I have no doubt that this is the ending of the books as well, but it will be well executed.

    This biggest piece of info I got from this video (and it's important) is at 11:28 where GRRM says, "The biggest thing was Dan and David called me up and had the idea of eliminating Rickon, the yougest of the Stark children, because he didn't do much in the first book. I said I had important plans for him, so they kept him." Many people feel that, because the show just unceremoniously kills off Rickon at the start of the Battle of the Bastards, that Rickon will die quickly in Winds of Winter. This statement makes that assumption folly. Rickon Stark will play an important role in what is to come in the books.

She'll force Jeyne Poole to keep pretending to be Arya. Jon will still die at the hands of the Watch but, Jon will return in the body of Ghost. And just when Sansa thinks she is finally Lady of Winterfell and not taking crap from nobody; Arya walks in, with Jon(Ghost) and Bran who tells Sansa: "I have seen everything." The end. Sansa will never be queen in the North. Dany won't be killed in front of the throne (Young Griff will) basically; everything that happened in season 8 was a mirror image of the final two books. Meaning: the Others will win in the end and all the characters living in the big blue Eye of George, will shut their eyes forever. Posthumously. I’m sure George would have appreciated that too. 1% of me still hopes they’ll get the cast back together and remake 7/8 and more. I wish the actors weren’t bound legally and professionally too as I’d love to hear their true opinions, not career laughs and misleading words.

      The only way, imo, is a full reboot in a decade, using the House Ofthe Dragon prequel series as a springboard for an eventual "re-adaptation" of the ASOIAF books

      The problem was that George deal was with D&D not HBO, it was a package deal.
      Personally I’m hoping for an animated adaptation in the style of Castlevania Netflix show as a reboot. It would be the best way to handle all the challenges the adaptation would faces, the age of the characters and the actors aging, the dreams sequence, and a good way to keep special effects costs down.

      @@oliviawilliams6204 yes, but what's the fun in that? The whole reason to make it live action, is to make it live action. I'm not knocking animation. Good animation is hard to find, and its quite the revolutionary artform, but imo, asoiaf deserves to be live action and reimagined more in line with george's vision, rather than a conceptualization of it

      @@Charleroi92 I just think, it won't work live action too many problem, with actors aging faster than the plot go, at age it will be very noticeable, lot of dream like sequence and absatract vision, animation would work better, live action won't work... the show kinda already proved it. try make sense of the show timeline with the actions who happens in king landing on the show timeline and put it with Arya stark aging 10 years and you realize maybe 2 worth of political event in King Landing happened on a way too stretched plot

    The drogo and dany scene after their wedding is one of my favorite scenes in the books because it's when she finally realizes she has control over something which is her sexuality. I love it but I do understand why they had to change it for the show because they aged her up. Rightfully so nobody wants to see a 13-year-old banging. But get across the point that they don't understand each other and that she is kind of afraid of him I understand why they made that choice. As much as I love the scene in the book

But, in the case of Joe Rogan, his doctor prescribed it, so (clearly) some physicians see possible efficacy. "They should have done it the way GRRM intended it to be" - Ok but in the books Danny is like 12~ years old iirc. Ofc they had to make some creative changes to that scene for TV. Also, I kind of liked the TV version better because it sets Danny to oppose the dothraki at first only for her to come over to their side as she adapts and learns to love being adopted into this new culture. As a character Danny had only ever known Targaryan, specifically the cruel, impoverished beggar king Vicerys who would mistreat and abuse her. She never felt at home with him, but she did with the Dothraki despite the shaky start.
    Character growth is important and I feel as if the TV series did a better job of portraying that in this one singular case.
