Volkswagen Golf mk4 rear wheel bearing replacement

- In this video, I show how to remove and install new rear wheel bearings in a 2001 Volkswagen Golf TDI. The wheel bearings were making a lot of noise while driving and that's how I knew that they needed to be replaced. I decided to also replace the dust shields and abs sensors. You'll need to have a 30mm 12-point deep well socket to remove and install the axle nut. The axle nut gets torqued to 129 ft/lbs.

Really nice video and all the data needed.
Only missed some info on, what looks like a round (dust or dirt), I meant...not rust shield, and was removed by grabbing the wings of it, and twisting a few times using a pair of plyers.
My so-called repair manual doesn't even have the torque information! Even less, part number info, and quality pictures. So, thanks a lot for showing how the job should be done 👍👍👍
Thank you very much!
Great video man. Going to do this job soon on my golf. Thank you for including the parts and explaining each step.
Thank you!
Do you have link for the 4x new axle bolts?

Much appreciated thanks man
Great video, love the link to parts.
Thank you
Thank you for this!
Welcome!
Nice work
Thank you
can you tell us the original part number for the 4 wheel bearing axel bolt please, i am searching but cannot find them. thank you, very great video !
The part number is: N90758901
Cory, is that a unique 30mm socket or just a regular one?
It's a regular 12 point 30mm socket.
What kind of screw/bolt was used to attach the dust shield? I don t find the right info for them.. Such length..
It's attached with the stub axle bolts. www.idparts.com/rear-wheel-stub-axle-bolt-set-a3b4a4-n90758901-p-1022.html
That bearing race you removed why didnt you put a new one on? Genuine question do you need a new one? Im planning on doing this next week whole new rear end including axel, hubs, bearings, sensors the whole lot
I installed the new hub bearing with the race attached. When you pull the old bearing, the race gets stuck on the stub axle unfortunately. You'll see what I mean when you do the job.
hi, where do I find information on torque values that are necessary for the correct install of various bolts?
You can search online for the torque specs. There's a wide variety of information out there for these cars. You can also get a Bentley service manual which includes the torque specs.
Болгаркой надпилить на искос, ударить зубилом, и легко снимается внутренняя часть подшипника.
Thanks for sharing!
Конечно ,но им до етого ..
@@modrisadijans383- There are different ways to remove the race and I chose to use the puller. The grinder and chisel work too.
will a 6 inch spread gear puller be big enough or do you need 7 inch one
It might be fine. I used a 7" spread puller in the video which worked perfectly.
do u have parts number for rear axle stub bolts?
The part number is N90758901.
Nice job,..why not change the axles too? Dont remember them being very expensive.
Thank you. The stub axles were in good shape, so there was no point in replacing them.
@@Corysdiyauto I understand. Have completely renovated a Mk4 with V5 myself..It started with small things but quickly became an extensive work that took 4 months..Thought that If everything had to be torn down anyway,i might as well replace everything. .Not entirely sure it was a good choice 😄,..but it's very satisfying to see the result. 😀
@@Swemist what do you mean v5?
@@willtoulan The engine is 5 cyl. Called VR5 or later (2002) just V5.
@@Swemist cool! Are you in the states? Where did you find it?
is there ANYWAY to get the 16mm dust shield bolts out without removing the whole hub?? What piss poor design!
No, unfortunately you can't do it unless you remove the hub. I wasn't too happy about that either. That's why I waited until my hubs went bad to replace the dust shields.
i snapped the abs sensor bolt head. tried bolt extrator... tried left handed bits. I snapped the left handed bolt extrator bit... its toast. I think i need a stub axle now LOL FACCKKK @@Corysdiyauto
@@GilbertGardens - Oh no. Sorry to hear that. At least those stub axles aren't too expensive.
hey can you repost the dust shield for canada? and just the one time bolts? thanks
i think the axle is fine just need te puller and 4 new bolts. the link for the dust shield doesnt seem to work for me

Плохо если мозгов нет Абс датчик не надо трогать.Болгарка,кувалда и зубила решает проблему с старой обоймой.
I have brains, thank you. I chose to remove the stub axle and replace the sensors. Do as you wish.
Is this similar to replacement for golf mk3 vr6 2.8?
It should be, but I have never worked on a mk3 before so I can't say for certain.
