While listening to these two songs on the radio I eventually realized that the background was a person not musical instruments.

Mitch and Kirstie have changed quite a lot over the 10 years they've been in Pentatonix (PTX), but their voices are always consistently the same. Avi, the bass with the beard, was with the group till 2017 and Avi left for personal reasons. Matt is the new bass and is a bit younger than the others. He has incredible energy and a great bass voice, too.
Great reaction! Yes, this is an old video when they were very young and starting out. When they won the 3rd season of the "Sing Off" more than 10 years ago, they were suppose to get a recording contract as promised. They were dropped immediately told that no one would want to listen to Acapella. They scraped up $400 between them and made this video in the kitchen and closet of Kevin and Avi's apartment and posted it on You Tube. This won them their first Grammy award and opened a lot of doors for them. You will see some of their older videos have very simple settings such as "Somebody That I Use To Know". You would enjoy their cover of "Royals" where they basically express how thankful they are for having their dreams come true (they end that song with a flashback to the modest clothes and look they had in the beginning). Mitch was very young when they started and missed his high school graduation to appear on the "Sing Off". As stated by the other comments on your reviews, Kirsty and Mitch change their look for every video to get into character but it is always them (Matt replacing Avi was the only change to this group). They are very grateful to their fans for making them so successful--check out their original song "Sing" where they invited fans out to the pier to participate in making that video.

PTX always gives the original artists a healthy dose of respect in one way or another but also puts a Pentatonix spin on a cover song. If you watch this again, check out Avi and Mitch's eyes--they are really RED from wearing those weird contacts, and I believe Kevin was wearing those shades because he couldn't tolerate the contacts. Ted Huppert, Avi did not select Matt. Matt auditioned and won the job based upon his skill, voice, experience, work ethic and personality. 40 or 50 people auditioned. Matt came to the final audition well prepared and had learned all of Pentatonix songs.

Yes that’s Kirstie too. Besides growing older she has had some cosmetic work done. I don’t know why. I always thought she was a good looking young woman. Mitch is upper right. This is a very old video when they were just getting started. He was only 19 or 20 at the time. In fact, all of them were young. I think Scott and Kirstie and Mitch are all very close in age. They went to the same high school together.
A couple of suggestions for broadening your pool of source material, increasing your sub base, and discovering some insane talent at the same time. They are what I consider the 1A and 1B for "best female vocalists in the world" right now. The first is a South Korean, former CCM/Gospel singer named Sohyang. Dubbed "the South Korean Mariah Carey" her voice control and range are out of this world. She also writes her own arrangements for her performances. I am a huge fan of Morgan James and this woman is on a whole other level IMHO. Standard introductory selections for her are 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'I Have Nothing', 'Lean on Me', 'You Raise Me Up', and her master-class in vocal control and stamina 'Everyone' (it is Korean and English so use the Vimeo version with CC's). All of these fall into what I refer to as her "epics". She also has several performances from a TV show called 'Begin Again' that feature her along with a group of singers and musicians performing stripped-down, acoustic, "busking"-style pop-up concerts. That show a completely different side to her skills and emotive capabilities. Her introductory offerings would include her performances on the "Wish Bus" of 'Rise Up', 'Never Enough', and 'Akin Ka Na Lang' (CC's). Both of these artists have very devoted and active fanbases who, like Pentaholics, will drive you subs up quickly.

It's always Mitch, it's always Kirstie, they have been there since the beginning. The only change has been Matt replacing Avi. Kirstie, Mitch & Scott all grew up together and have LITERALLY been in the group from the beginning, as they were the original group (then called The Trio).
Isn't he cute? That's Mitch's citizen disguise. It's how he looks to go see his Gramma. He's different every time. Wait till you see him bald wearing wht looks to me like a green silk dressing gown. Just so you don't get shocky I'll warn you now about the giant fuzzy pink heart suit in "Vacation". This was a very early piece. Mitch was very shy and retiring early on, until he got his confidence up and discovered he liked flashy and avaunt guard. The reason Kevin is wearing the techno shades and not the blue contacts is his eyes proved too sensitive and the contacts really irritated them. The blocking isn't necessarily being done by U-Tube, it's the company who owns the production rights to the music. "You may not reproduce what belongs to us without our express written permission." is what they're saying so U-Tube has to go along with them.

Yes that’s Kirstie too. Besides growing older she has had some cosmetic work done. I don’t know why. I always thought she was a good looking young woman. There is a Christmas song “That’s Christmas To Me” they did where they spliced some home movies in of all of them when they were really young. Probably from about 3 to 9 years old. I thought All of them were cute, but Kirstie was adorable. Also, the song is really good too. Check it out.🥰

Mitch is upper right. This is a very old video when they were just getting started. He was only 19 or 20 at the time. In fact, all of them were young. I think Scott and Kirstie and Mitch are all very close in age. They went to the same high school together.
A couple of suggestions for broadening your pool of source material, increasing your sub base, and discovering some insane talent at the same time. They are what I consider the 1A and 1B for "best female vocalists in the world" right now.
The first is a South Korean, former CCM/Gospel singer named Sohyang. Dubbed "the South Korean Mariah Carey" her voice control and range are out of this world. She also writes her own arrangements for her performances. I am a huge fan of Morgan James and this woman is on a whole other level IMHO. Standard introductory selections for her are 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', 'I Have Nothing', 'Lean on Me', 'You Raise Me Up', and her master-class in vocal control and stamina 'Everyone' (it is Korean and English so use the Vimeo version with CC's). All of these fall into what I refer to as her "epics". She also has several performances from a TV show called 'Begin Again' that feature her along with a group of singers and musicians performing stripped-down, acoustic, "busking"-style pop-up concerts. The other is a Filipino artist named Morissette Amon, "Asia's Phoenix". She is a more pop driven artist and is equally impressive in her vocal stamina and control. She also just released an EP of originals which she co-wrote and produced with her fiance. Her introductory offerings would include her performances on the "Wish Bus" of 'Rise Up', 'Never Enough', and 'Akin Ka Na Lang' (CC's).
Both of these artists have very devoted and active fanbases who, like Pentaholics, will drive you subs up quickly.

It's always Mitch, it's always Kirstie, they have been there since the beginning. The only change has been Matt replacing Avi. Kirstie, Mitch & Scott all grew up together and have LITERALLY been in the group from the beginning, as they were the original group (then called The Trio).
They change their look a lot. Yes that's Mitch and Kirstie. This was 2013. And Mitch gains and loses weight from time to time.

This was a very early piece. Mitch was very shy and retiring early on, until he got his confidence up and discovered he liked flashy and avaunt guard.
The reason Kevin is wearing the techno shades and not the blue contacts is his eyes proved too sensitive and the contacts really irritated them.
The blocking isn't necessarily being done by U-Tube, it's the company who owns the production rights to the music. "You may not reproduce what belongs to us without our express written permission." is what they're saying so U-Tube has to go along with them.

Great reaction. You should do there evolution of Rihanna or evolution of Michael Jackson. Daft Punk got them a Grammy. Scott, Mitch, Kirsty, and Kevin(beat boxer/cello) are O. G. Avi(original bass) left for solo career and was replaced by Matt.
