    0000 pads wet. First, not as agressive with the wire brush. Then use a cotton buffing pads after a lot of work with 0000. The again with polish cotton pads and you'll be able to see yourself. Work hard and you'll be able to see the future. Ha. Love your channel. I'm in the middle of a 75 Honda CB 360t restore as we speak.I'm not removing the engine and rattle canning the chassi. It'll work as I've done it before.
    Rebuilding the disc fronts and new tires, chain and everyother thing I can think of from Common motors.
    I'm subbed so I'd love to see more of your stuff

    just cleaned up a motor on a honda xr100 dirt bike. I just used a dremel with wire brushes. it came out well

    My engine on my 79 cm 400 is stained but not pitted like yours. Not to make you feel bad but I will say because of your pitting you definitely have to paint or clear coat it paint will probably be better in your case because clear will still show the pits !!!

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 роки тому

      Yeah. I think paint is definitely in the cards at this point. Really bummed that it didn't clean up better but this was a complete basket case when I got it. I'll get it straightened out. You're right on it needing paint. Thanks Mike.

      Yeah only because of the pitting I can see it in the camera there’s a million little bits of metal missing all over the engine once you got it clean with the wire brush on the drill sorry dude!!! I would reattach the side covers so the cleaning liquid doesn’t enter the bearings.

  • @stevenrlowery
    @stevenrlowery 22 дні тому

    Paint stripper ? Some of the old Honda side covers were painted silver aluminum to match the raw aluminum on main cases and heads..maybe Don't leave stripper too long, might discolor aluminum.

      When did you start working on bikes?

    • @KeepOnWrenching
      @KeepOnWrenching  4 роки тому

      alanco22 22 I got my first bike in Oct 2018. I restored a 70 CB as my first project. Once I finished that one I picked up the 72 CL that is featured on the channel. I really missed working on a bike even though I had one to ride. I just found that I really enjoyed working on these. There’s some nostalgia too as my father had a 750four that he gave us rides on as kids. Just cool bikes.

      @@KeepOnWrenching see for me my brothers used to ride Lammys and Vespas and did scooter rallies back in the 80s and 90s. I'd tag along for the weekend. Its was lager, jumbles, music, more lager and a massive chill with mates. I love the smell of 2 stroke, it takes me back to those days. I was hooked from them. Had a cub 90, Honda melody (for shits & giggles) and a cg125. But I have 4 kids, so no bike right now. Someday I'll have another one.

    this would have been faster and easier if you left the engine intact and on the frame then off the frame I would have spot cleaned and finished. I hate opening things when they are dirty, unless it's something I'm just gonna submerge. I just finished my carbs and buttoned up everything on my bike. What I'll do is spray it all down with diluted purple power and then blast it with a pressure hose.

    Love the vids. Careful of steel wool and brushes on aluminum, it can embed pieces and set up electrolytic corrosion. Fins are a bitch! Keep em up!

    • @KeepOnWrenching

      Noted, Robin thanks for the info. Fins are the worst.

    • @sprezzatura8755
      @sprezzatura8755 Рік тому

      Use an oscillating tool with a microfiber towel wrapped over the blade and some polish for the fins. You will be amazed. Wire brush on a drill is too aggressive. Drill attachments with Scotch-Brite material is much gentler and the results are fantastic. You can graduate to finer and finer grades until you get a mirror finish if that's what you want.
