    I know this is an older video and a lot of things have changed a bit with SharePoint and Teams over the years. That must've been hard giving your presentation while staying consistent in the naming terminology of everything. 365 group permissions vs SP group permissions, permissions, vs permission levels, for example. You did a great job trying to explain the intricacies and complexities of SP permissions. I will look for other videos of yours to see how this all tangles with MS Teams permissions, and what is the best way to manage all this.

    Thank you very much for putting light into this topic! Question, when you create a new group, does the new group have access to resources or not?

    • @TechByTosh
      @TechByTosh  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you! I assume you are talking about SharePoint groups? So when you create a new SharePoint group, you need to assign appropriate permissions (visitor, member, owner or custom etc.) to the group and add group members. Based on the permissions you assign and if the permissions inheritance is not broken then the group members.group will have assigned permissions to the resources. If any of the resources have unique permissions assigned then newly created group will not have access to those resources. I hope it clarifies!

    Hi Sir,
    Thank you very much for the good detailed instruction. Can I grant all members of a website permission for all resource services (MS Teams, O4B, Planner etc. from Microsoft 365) but change the permissions in the libraries so that only certain people can access-edit certain folders and documents and the remaining members either have read rights or have no access.
    Thank you for your reply.

    • @TechByTosh
      @TechByTosh  2 роки тому

      If you have a SharePoint site using M365 group, you can use the same M365 group for a MS Team/planner etc. For SharePoint you can break permissions inheritance and assign unique permissions. You can manage SharePoint group membership for Public channels but Private and Shared Channel SharePoint sites does not offer managing permissions through SharePoint but you can always break the inheritance on any folders but won't be able to add any members.

    First time viewer of one of your vids. Very clearly presented !
    So i can create a Team site called ABC which then creates a M365 group of the same name, with users ABC1, ABC2 .. to ABC 15.
    I can then add that M365 group of 15 people as a 'Member' individually to each of several sites (ie.. DEF, HJK, PQR). And the owner(s) of that ABC Team can manage the membership of that Team and the connected Group.
    The Azure AD group creation and modification (ie..to add/remove a member) must be done by an Administrator ...correct ? So this 'access to group modification' would be a primary driver of which type of group you choose. In many cases you would not want to involve the administrator each time someone left or was added to the PAYROLL team.
    Would i be correct on this ..or am i missing something ?

    • @TechByTosh
      @TechByTosh  2 роки тому

      Thank you for the kind words. M365 groups are also managed through Azure AD, so there is no separate group needs to be created. Adding/removing members to the group can be done by the group owner so you won't have to contact the admin to perform the same. Please let me know if you need more information.

    This video is really excellent! My requirement is grant access to users to a Sharepoint Online list which they appear in some list items with their mails in a field of the row and they only should see and edit their entries. Probably a good level permission definition could not be good enough to reach it and maybe a Power Automate flow must be perform in place. What's your opinion, Tosh?.

    • @TechByTosh
      @TechByTosh  2 роки тому

      It really depends how you manage your list and your requirements. You can change list settings for permissions and create different views. Power Automate can play a good role but it all comes down to your set up and how you handle the flow.

    I ask you to help in a question of work with Sharepoint. Documents have been saved to the desktop through synchronization. If you accidentally delete a large number of documents and return them using the button, how does this operation appear in the system? Can it show in the system that the documents were allegedly resent somewhere, instead of being deleted? Is it possible to resend documents at once directly from Sharepont or do I need to download them first? Moreover, the computer and all programs are protected and only the administrator has full access. I am in despair, because they say that I transferred documents to an unknown destination, but I did not send anything anywhere.

    Hi, looking for some clarification here, what if I only have SharePoint Online stand alone plan, do I still get the capability and eligibility to create groups? Or do I need to be in a bundle suite that includes Exchange online ?

    Hi Toshit. Thanks for helping the community with this such an important subject which we can find very little info on. It seems that there is still difficulty in understanding the various approaches. For example ( without even going intoto 'Teams", it looks like we can ( or rather must ) add 'External guest's via Azure Ad. what is then still NOT clear , while Sharepoint creates its 'own' groups ( owners, members & visitors) we can either assign them directly from the AZURE AD external users list or if not, add them one by one directly in the Sharepoint groups and assign them permissions individually ?. What would be the purpose of setting all the 'Access' restrictions' via the Sharepoint Admin center. I am sorry but is very confusing. I think this time around MS couldn't have made it more complicated (LOL) !. Any comments on my concerns. Many Thanks Regards Martin

    • @TechByTosh
      @TechByTosh  2 роки тому +1

      O365 groups which are created as part of Teams and SharePoint sites can be managed through Azure AD and O365 Admin center. But you need to elevated have access to manage such groups through admin center and Azure AD. Permissions added through SharePoint groups are specific to those sites only. Access control thorough SharePoint admin center is a global configuration for all the SharePoint and OneDrive, where you can restrict access to specific IPs or how un-managed devices can access etc.

      @TechByTosh  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Praveen, you can always create unique permissions for the folder. Highlight the folder, open properties from three dots or click on information button from the right pane. Click Manage Access -> Advanced and stop inheriting permissions. This way you can create your desired permissions.
