    All good sensible stuff - completely agree with the basic first aid kit too and I take a small mirror which has come in handy when I get grit in an eye 🙈! A strong headlight to see ahead is vital in rural areas...👍Enjoyed the bloopers too 😂😉 Stay Safe 😁

      Really good suggestion and funny you should say that. I was brought a little first aid kit for Christmas and have been meaning to put it in the bag just in case. Definitely worth having one in case of emergencies!

      That’s sounds great! Don’t live so rural so can get away with a flask but would be interesting to go touring one day. Maybe after lockdown. I know what you mean about the bags though. So many out there it’s difficult. Personally just went for one of the biggest I could get and knew the t-bag style would be good based on some reviews I watched. Definitely glad I went for this one in the end. Good when you get a tail wind too but not so good when you get a head wind with it 😂

      @@adamroots3429 Hey Adam, if you haven't bought your bag yet - I've just got the large waterproof Borough bag (the dark blue one) - its brilliant - have packed it as if to go camping (as I plan to when its allowed) and can get everything I'd need in and my tent straps on top.
      I got caught a sudden downpour the other day as well and the bag really is waterproof. Same cannot be said about me - I got soaked!!

    Ur Nr 5 - The right Bag - was the best YT tip, even better then Easy Wheels.
    I got a lot of Cobblestone streets were I live and the ride was horrible without a bag, now with my Brompton Barbour Bag suddenly the ride got from “I think my spin will break if I don’t stop soon“ to “ It’s just annoying vibration “ 🤔
    amazing what such a bag brings. the bike also feels even more agile than before.

    Nice video. Am I the only one though who considers a helmet as essential? I think it is particularly important on Bromptons because of the way small wheels can react to uneven roads.

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому +1

      I think it’s a personal preference. Obviously In some countries it is required by law but a helmet is good if you fall off. To be honest I never go fast enough 🤣
      I would wear a helmet if I was going mountain biking where the chance off me falling off is higher though 👍

    • @simongee8928
      @simongee8928 3 роки тому +4

      Sustaining a head injury falling off a bike isn't necessarily speed relative. Concussion or worse can happen at a walking pace.

    • @s.richards6552
      @s.richards6552 3 роки тому

      I managed to fall off my Brompton a few weeks ago for the first time. Became overconfident doing a u-turn on a steep hill too slowly (below walking speed). The front wheel jackknifed and pitched me sideways head first down the hill. I landed on the edge of my helmet above my temple and had a major headache for four days. Would probably have had a cracked skull without the helmet. I won't ever be riding without the helmet in future. Also had very painful bruised leg that stopped me cycling for ten days, but shin guards may be overkill on a Brompton!

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому

      Thats true. I suppose it is the same argument for falling over when stood still as well or even walking. I am totally for people wearing helmets, and its down to personal preference I think. 👍

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому

      Sorry to hear that you have had an accident! Hope you are feeling better soon. Yeah if I was riding off road would be wearing a helmet due to the uneven ground and I think its a bit more dangerous due to that. Shin guards might be a bit overkill! 👍

    • @CycleEveryday

      The Brompton tool kit looks brilliant. When I have a bit of money saved think I am going to invest in one. At the moment just got some tools in the Brompton bag that I have so don't really need one right now but will get one eventually. The Brompton pump is great I think. Does what it's designed for and never forget to take it out with me because its always tucked out of the way safely. I know a lot of people don't like the pump, but I am fine with it. I don't really expect it do pump the tyre up fully to 110psi, but just enough to get me home is perfect. Saved me on a few occasion and less to have in the bag which is a plus. 👍

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому +1

      It is just a basic track pump. Nothing special and had it a few years. Only use the Brompton pump on the bike in emergencies as it won’t pump to the required pressure but enough to get you home. Think the pump I have was from Wilkinson’s in the uk for about £5 at the time, but any track pump with a pressure gauge on should do the job well 👍

    Curious about your perspective on the "cycle cape". I learned of them from a British Person, and found them really nice in the weather, since they helped me avoid getting soaked in sweat, which other rain-suits seem to do (yes, even the supposedly breathable high-tech fabrics). For footwear, I'm surprised that more people don't mention *spats*... I've also used gaiters + clogs for effective foot covering in the rain.

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому

      The cycle cape. I think that’s like a poncho? I don’t use them personally and to be honest never have but might be worth trying on out. Yes the “breathable” waterproofs aren’t always as breathable as you might like unfortunately. Not sure if you can get spats to cover normal shoes? I have seen them used a fair bit on cycling shoes though. Gaiters are pretty good and there is always the clips as well to stop you getting your trousers oily, although on the Brompton never had an issue with that so far.

    • @buixote
      @buixote 3 роки тому +1

      @@CycleEveryday Yeah, but shorter than "hiking ponchos"... also shorter in front than rear, sometimes with thumb-loops... I *did* get some "shoe covers that went up the shin, and velcro'ed in the back... they're pretty uncommon, though... the booties the roadies use are OK, but they're usually too tight for "civilian shoes".

      I would agree with the helmet. My son and I were riding last summer.
      He fell and hit his head. He cracked his helmet in five places.
      He had a concussion.

      @@thomashosch930 Glad to hear it was "just" a concussion (which is bad enough) - hope he recovered well!
      Yes, I agree, without one it surely would have been worse.
      I always wear one and this without beeing required by law. I worked 10 years as a paradmedic and in a medical center and saw quite a lot bad injuries...
      And even without this experiences I think it has something to do with "setting good examples for children" and "not having to experience everything by my self to see a benefit"...and maybe a little "letting society (in this case all the Health Insurance Holders) pay for my easy avoidable mistakes"...
      Despite the fact, that you can not always avoid accidents, meaning if your drive carefully doesn´t mean other do so as well. I don´t want a sign on my grave "I wasn´t responsible!" - doesn´t help does it? May sound harsh but..
      Aaaand the fact I rode 40 years without a accident and last christmas I had my first bike accident ever just proved I rather spent some € in to a helmet - money well spent :) Best christmas gift ever was a new helmet afterwards and the chance to experience more christmas Days :D

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому

      Thats a good point and will make sure I do that in future videos. But just incase you were wondering here is the information. The battery flashing lights on the Brompton were brought from Halfords last year. The make is Moon by Nova and here is the link: www.halfords.com/cycling/bike-accessories/bike-lights/moon-nova-80plus-pulsar-set-274495.html They cost £10.00 and you can only get them online.
      The ones I have on constantly (not flashing) are the rechargeable ones which I got from Aldi during the bike event. I did cover these in a video a while back here; ua-cam.com/video/tvm_IHA4ZbE/v-deo.html Might be worth having a look as go into a bit more detail on them both in that video, but please accept my apologies for the sound quality! Was a while back when we first started and didn't have the mic set up properly!
      They were £14.99 and I have to say that I am really impressed with them. So much better than having to keep replacing the batteries and would definitely recommend paying a bit more for rechargeable ones as will save a fair bit of money in batteries, and really easy to charge up as well. It will be difficult to get hold of these ones now as Aldi normally just have a load in and once it's gone its gone unfortunately. I hope that helps? Let me know if you have any more questions though.

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому +1

      They can be fitted, however not on the standard pedals. So as far as I am aware you wouldn't be able to have the folding pedal on the left side of the bike, so would stick out when the bike was folded. Some people choose to swap the pedals anyway so it might not bother some people, but personally I need it to fold up as small as possible including the pedals so have not got them on mine. If you have fitted something to the top of the stem like mine though and is fully packed you might have to move the light somewhere else. @Art of Hookie not heard of the kevlar’s before but they sound pretty good as well. Will see how these ones go. I do like the tan wall ones now but I know what you mean about reliability over looks. Plus in winter these tan walls are a pain to keep clean.

      @Art of Hookie no worries. I had the same problem with those stock Brompton tyres. We’re a nightmare a few months ago. That’s why I changed them and went with these ones 👍

    Hi, thanks for useful tips!
    I want to order a triangle aluminium rear rack with easy wheels and extender via aliexpress. Has anybody ordered on aliexpress charged VAT and/or customs duty taxes for orders from China in 2021? In the gov.uk site, there is a tariff document showing %20 VAT and extra anti-dumping taxes specialized for chinese products. I couldnt be sure about ordering the items after seeing this document. I dont want to wait for weeks and then having the items held at the customs with the high taxes awaiting to be paid. Has anybody experienced such kind of issues lately?

      Glad you enjoyed the tips. I have no idea in regard to the other question. Never really thought about customs as surely it would just be sent as a private parcel? If it was me and I was worried about it I would just order it of somewhere like eBay or amazon to save hassle. It will probably be a bit more expensive but if it saves stress?

      @@CycleEveryday Thats right but it is really hard to find the items produced in England. Most of them are out of stock. And i guess even if i order over amazon.uk or ebay, if the item is not second hand, probably it ll be shipped from China again. So i think even though shopping sites are UK firms, same mentioned taxes ll be applied, wont be? I dont know really...

      @@ottoman8308 I don't know If I am honest. To be fair, I think that the price you pay for the item is the price. Normally you pay for postage on top so that would cover it I think? Never really thought about that aspect, but if you are ordering on Amazon, don't think you will have a problem.

    So, after 4 years of seafront commuting on Bromptons, my essentials are;
    1) UPSO bag (uses the S frame). Indestructible, unique, and unlike other bags it is properly waterproof
    2) SON dynamo. Haven't owned, lost, charged, or even thought about lights for two years.
    3) Resolute Bay waterproof jacket, because its superb. Resolute Bay jeans are something I can't do without now too. Such a difference when riding to not have a seam trying to wedgie you to death.
    4) Brompton toolkit. It is pricey, but super useful. A lot of the time I just use it when doing small jobs at home rather than going out to the garage for my tools.
    5) Galibier gloves. Far and away the best on the market.

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks for that really useful list! 👍 thinking about the Dynamo if I brought the Brompton new I would get that option next time as would be even better than charging so that is definitely something to bear in mind if a get a new one.
      Definitely thinking about getting the Brompton toolkit sometime in the future as I have heard a lot people now saying they are really good.
      Thinking about using it along the seafront, do you have much trouble with rust and the sea salt? Been keeping ours clean every time we go out on it with the grit and salt on the road but if we didn’t think we might be getting some rust on some parts of it like the bolts etc.
      Thanks for sharing! 😀👍

      @@CycleEveryday my late 2017 bike still looks new, even after 3 years of commuting. The inside of the tubes is browning, but that's the brazing rather than the frame tubes.
      I am rather obsessive when it comes to cleaning and maintenance though, especially in the winter.
      The only real casualties are pedals as non folding one is especially crap. I also find the front brake cable traps moisture at the bottom of the curve by the forks, and will eventually seize.

    • @CycleEveryday
      @CycleEveryday  3 роки тому +1

      @@duncanhamilton5841 I noticed that once on the front cable on a very cold morning a few weeks ago. Think the moisture in the cable froze and then the brake seized but when the sun came out didn’t have any problems so think you are definitely on to something there. Same thing on the tubes with a bit of browning in the tube.
      Same as you for cleaning though. Have to though in this weather. Looking forward to when it’s drier and they stop putting grit and salt on the roads. 👍

      @@CycleEveryday yeah, I've had the moisture freezing thing too. That was a bit of a shocker bombing down a hill to find I'd only got one brake.
      We did go back in the office for a day in October. Rode the 4 miles home wondering why I was struggling so much. Put it down to lack of riding with lockdown. Got in to find the front brake stuck on thanks to the cable seizing. 🤣
