Man this is great. My dad was born in 1948. He loved wrestling while growing up. It's just wild to know that the kids in the audience are in there 80s, or close to it. My dads 72 and has dementia. I love how we can go back in time with old clips like this. It helps him alot. Thank you
My dad was born in 1945 and used to tell me about George back when I started watching wrestling in the early 1980s. I miss my dad, I wish I found this video when he was alive, I'm sure it would have brought back some memories

I think it was Dennis Cleary he wrestled that night and after a long match, my mom and I went back stage, where I got his autograph and some Georgie pins. It was a side room, not part of the regular locker room and he asked how many I wanted and I said 3, one for me, one for my mom and one for her friend. George gave me 2 and said her friend already had more than enough

I think it's hard for most of today's younger generation to imagine just how much heat George had. Just dressing like that alone could of gotten you killed in certain parts of the country back then...& many people didn't realize it was an "act"

They should add people like Gorgeous George in the videogames. We never get to see the ones from the greatest two eras of wrestling, the 40s-50s. He has a lot of charisma and does things that would seem out of the ordinary, especially in those days. It would be interesting to see older wrestlers in the newer wrestling games against those from the 70s and 80s and 90s. The different styles and techniques. He did quite good despite the way presents himself and that he does not look physically tough. He was definitely brave considering the area he is in and the stuff he is wearing.

Pretty sure you're exaggerating when you say people ALWAYS forget about him, it depends of who you're talking to. It's definitely not true to say everyone forgot about him.

Modern times dictate that something far more of quality be created, but if any one person gains attention for doing something which is positive, then he has helped progress civilisation. They bought it all and hated the guy so much that in the famous hair match where his golden locks were at risk, they said some people paid $1000.00 for a ticket - in the 1950s! It's like he invented every cheat in the book. Flair claim he's the dirtiest player in the game but that's only because he utilized the low blow. I miss watching wrestling where the crowd is dark and the ring is lit up. Reminds me of a high-profile boxing match. Now the fans get more attention than the wrestlers.
I used to imitate Muhammad Ali by saying: "I'm the greatest", didn't know he got the idea from Gorgous George. The guy was a true legend and a trailblazer.
George was also an accomplished wrestler, of that no doubt. Lou Thesz said George did an awful lot for the sport as a showman but was also a good wrestler indeed. High praise from a man who didn't give it out easily.
Perhaps one of the biggest draws in the history of Wrestling. I read that he was making six figures back in the 50s. Thesz who normally disliked gimmick wrestlers said that George could very well handle himself.

I read that promoters would pay him 50% of the gate because he sold out everywhere he went. Other all time great like Freddie Blassie and Lou Thesz wanted to work with him because people paid to see George get beat. In his prime, its said that George made over $100K a year in the 1950's.
@@JayJackson1981 I've heard that as well. Just watch some of his matches, he needled the audience like a master, it's hilarious! They bought it all and hated the guy so much that in the famous hair match where his golden locks were at risk, they said some people paid $1000.00 for a ticket - in the 1950s! That was the cost of a nice new car!

I'm currently on my third one that I've found on UA-cam. He pretty much does the same stuff every match but it's still entertaining, especially watching him cheat. It's like he invented every cheat in the book. Flair claim he's the dirtiest player in the game but that's only because he utilized the low blow. George did everything else perfectly twenty years before Flair started wrestling.

I used to imitate Muhammad Ali by saying: "I'm the greatest", didn't know he got the idea from Gorgous George. The guy was a true legend and a trailblazer.
I dont know about their pro-wrestling theatrics level but they sure look massively and effortlessly strong.
George was also an accomplished wrestler, of that no doubt. Lou Thesz said George did an awful lot for the sport as a showman but was also a good wrestler indeed. High praise from a man who didn't give it out easily.

Perhaps one of the biggest draws in the history of Wrestling. I read that he was making six figures back in the 50s. Thesz who normally disliked gimmick wrestlers said that George could very well handle himself.
