Everybody loves roses! People, bugs, caterpillars, molds... fortunately most rose plants recover very, very quickly, once you get rid of the threat. It is impressive to see a palm tree in the open, in the Midwest! Is it a species coming from the boundaries of the palm tree climate ranges? It looks like a Raphis sp. I have Raphis excelsa in a vase, and they have an underground rhizome, which may be responsible for the survival of the plant over winter! Thanks for sharing!
And it was thought to be extinct for a few years - now, there are a lot of them around. There was an effort in my small town to plant them and they seem to do very well where they are planted.

I do love roses but found that the really nice ones are hard to grow without dumping on the pesticides. Thanks for your comment.
