      Pat M My T started after covid, but and I ve been stressed out also . There were like 10 different sounds changing all the time, now I hear 2. headaches and hyperacusis gone, but fullness feeling in my ears still there , much more in the right ear (loudest T)... I have never get a earing test before but after T I have 35-40 db loss on 4khz ...Did You have hearing loss also? Can it be recovered?

      I was in a car accident and all injuries healed besides soreness from cracked ribs but I now have tinnitus. I already had anxiety and panic disorder, listened to earbuds beyond the recommended level and worked in a loud factory. I already had the anxiety of high pitched noises from work, sounds that pierced the earplugs and muffs combined. It is very true with the noise or other irritants that we cannot do anything about eventually will become normal and the anxiety will pass.

      Check 14700hz vs 15000hz in each ear. Use UA-cam to find the frequency.

    This webinar literally changed my life. I was two months in with tinnitus accompanied by severe tinnitus distress. I thought I was losing it! There was a lot of fear and crying and ugh...it was awful! I ran across this webinar and it changed EVERYTHING! The anxiety all but disappeared. The truth and reassurance found here was extremely helpful. Absolutely worth the watch!

      I changed my diet and started fasting and daily exercise my tinnitus has gone down some days its so low that i dont notice it.👍

    I honestly could not hear it for 32 years. I unknowingly habituated by simply not caring about it until it fell into the subconscious of my brain. It only piped up when I was stressed. I would say "oh, I'm stressed, it will calm down" and it really did. Now I'm experiencing a crisis and its sounding an alarm. It will calm down when I calm down and stop focusing on it.

    I started fasting and exercise and my tinnitus went from 8 to a 2 really great.

      @@ninakenny3586 Well I first started with water fasting. From morning to the next day then have a light meal the next day. I would do this twice a week then one week I would do dry fasting twice a week. And just keep repeating it. Eat healthy, excercise . try taking cold showers before you go to sleep.

    I have tinnitus and at times it can seem very loud, especially in a quiet room. I’ve learned that it’s intimately related to state of mind and your ability to relax about it and everything else in your life.
    You just have to let go as if you zone in on it, it will make it 3x louder. When I’m happy, some days I don’t even notice it at all, when I’m stressed it multiplies.
    Diet/alcohol can have an effect, so you need to work out triggers.
    It can be done, it’s all about relaxing.
    Edit: I find omeprazole irritates my tinnitus.

      Slashley gibbins what is that you mentioned aggravates it? Mine is bad. Has been for years. Worse in the last few months... and yes stress and anxiety is way up as well. Too much coffee make mine worse it seems

      @@iseesea6517 omeprazole is a pill for stomach acid problems that I take.
      Find ways to relax.
      I use rain sound noises to help me sleep, they tend to drain out the ringing, works well.

      How long have u been with it? I have been having this from last few years as I am an anxiety disorder patient. Since last year its been getting louder..I'm really scared..went to ENT many times just prescribed meds.No improvement

      @@jigmetladol1469 Hi, its a known fact that people with mental health issues tend to be the ones who suffer the most and the reason is, is because they are the ones that worry about it. Please don't waste your time being scared about is as your concentration on it will make it much worse. Eventually, you will learn to relax and it will become less of an issue while still having the odd up and down.
      I've had mine for about 10yrs and I've learned to just relax, its just a noise after all, you hear noises every day.

    I'm 17, always had tinnitus, until last year I thought it was normal, I thought that everyone was hearing a super high-pitched sound in their heads, then I discovered what it really was. It didn't bother me at all, I mean, it has always been there, why should I worry about it now? But everything changed two months ago, I went through a very hard time, and eventually, I started thinking about my tinnitus. It became a nightmare. Even if the sound didn't change a bit I started to hear it everywhere 24/7, whether I was at school or I was out with my friends. The sound that I heard for 17 years was draining my soul...My worst fear was that I did damage my ears, but I didn't experience any loud noise recently, I visited an otorino and he said that my hearing was perfect. After that, I discovered that the hearing test was the 8khz one so he didn't test the higher frequencies. In the last week I realized that even if the sound has gotten worse or not I have to accept it and now I want to re-habituate. I didn't care about it for 17 freakin' years, why should I now? I honestly think that this is going to take a lot of time, but what else can I do? I really hope to get out of this crap...sorry for the outburst and wish me luck

      I think the moment you care about that's when you started being anxious. The same happened to me i've experience tinnitus before but don't really care about it but one time I search on google and it just gotten worst. So i think it's all about meditation.

    I want to share my story of tinnitus and how I got over it. I’m 49 and started to have tinnitus about 4 years ago. It was horrible and really messed up my life. The major thing, as someone with tinnitus knows, is the lack of sleep. Being in bed with that ringing knowing that would not get away it was horrible. I inform myself about it and realize nobody knows for sure, it is somekind of inflammatory disorder / nerve damage.. I went to the best ear doctor.. two times.. the first time massive doses of vitamins b complex. Nothing.. second time.. some pills.. nothing.. anyway, about two years ago I started doing something that changed everything.. cold showers!.. .. I take a 10 m cold shower everyday.. it took about six months to feel a significant change.. today I still have a bit of tinnitus but it don’t bother me.. at night it blends with the white noise and I sleep fine.. try it and stuck with it.

      @@290DIRT i started with the cold showers in the morning because they would calm me and gave me energy, specially after a bad night sleep. Gradually i notest rhe efect on the tinnutis. It works for me and i'm improving the cold therapy with ocean swims. I shared my story on some of this help videos because the cold therapy is working for me and i hope it works for someonelse with this annoying condition.

      @@jamiedraheim3081 I started in the summer of 2019, two years after the tinnitus. I live in Portugal, that means hot summers and cold winters. In the summer the cold shower is a bliss in the winter is challenging. I notest a change about six months after i begun doing this. I take a 10m cold shower everyday in the morning. Also after a work out. You can look up videos about the beneficts of cold showers, for me, I'm convinced that it reduces inflamation wich I think is at the root of tinnitus.

    Thank you for this. I've had cognitive therapy in the past and it is good to be reminded of how one can apply it to any challenge. My CBT took a very good turn when, in addition to in person therapy, I began working thru David Burns' book "Feeling Good", an incredibly effective adjunct to talk therapy. It has a lot of formats for writing/listing issues, and writing is helpful in moving forward from obsessive thought. When I'm not noticing my Tinnatus, I try to push away the temptation to "check" on it by zeroing in on it. That's when I start to analyse the pitch and intensity of the T, and to me that is giving it power. If I don't "notice" it (because of gradual habituation), I shouldn't be asking myself "is it there"? Not always easy, though, so takes awareness. Good luck to all who have T.

    As a Registered Nurse, CBT was part of daily treatment for pt’s and to reduce our own stress. The mindfulness exercises were instrumental. This video offers understanding and strategies particular to tinnitus

    Thank you for releasing this freely, it has really helped build my understanding of CBT for tinnitus which many audiologists would not talk about without a consultation fee (which some of us can't afford). Come to think of it, probably finding a qualified and intelligent CBT Tinnitus survivor would be incredibly rare even if one could afford treatment. The moderator's questions were spot on and Dr. Hubbard as a sufferer and surviver with such a wide scope of knowledge and understanding gives a lot of hope. Again thank you so much for releasing such a great amount of quality information freely, it helped so much.

    I've had tinnitus for about ten years, and at first, I was terrified, but gradually I habituated to it. Then, about three or four months ago, a second, more pronounced unilateral tinnitus appeared in my left ear. As I noticed it more, it seemed to get louder, and recently, I was so enormously anxious and depressed about it I began to obsess over it, which, of course, made it worse. I stumbled upon this webinar (the first webinar I have ever watched, in my recollection -- maybe I was forced at some point in my work past), and I second what so many other people have written in the comments; it's wonderful. I hope and trust I will get habituated to the lunacy in my left ear, and until then, I'm going to do my best to accept it. And reading everyone's thoughtful, insightful comments has also been helpful. Nice work, Doctor Hubbard, and good luck to all my tinnitus-heads out there. Deep breaths!

    If you're wondering whether to watch this, definitely do it. The video may start slowly (i.e. in proceeding to coping therapies), but it's worth watching all of it. I went from believing getting hearing aids was the answer - it isn't - to learning valuable and reassuring points from this video that have already made my tinnitus seem less loud and troubling.

    This presentation is so good it’s the first video I’ve commented on in 10 years on UA-cam. The only scientifically proven treatment for tinnitus is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) It’s been invaluable in coming to terms with my tinnitus as I didn’t realise before viewing that there’s a 98% chance that if I try to ignore it my brain will phase it out of awareness in 6 to 18 months. I was so reassured when the examples of other noise we might frequently be exposed to while still there barely registers, traffic, trains etc. If you have tinnitus follow the advice. There are so many scammers on here offering useless so called cures. But most importantly it’s lifted the constant stress and anxiety I was experiencing since my 24/7 tinnitus started.

    I am focusing on my tinnitus way too much, constantly plugging my ears to hear the volume, monitoring it 24/7. I need to do CBT again to get over it. I am 100% anxious. I am having a break down and need to work on myself. I want to live a happy long life, for myself and kids and wife/family. I have had it for 10 years now, mostly have coped but last 2 years I have done all the things not to do. It is honestly a 2/3 out of 10 but I make it a 7-8 out of ten myself. I will watch this a few times this week and start working on myself. Thank you

      I've 100% habituated. I would say 95% of the time I do not notice my tinnitus, I even go to sleep now with no white noise@@chaneke011

    I used TRT therapy and I dealt with loud tinnitus and hyperacusis for 5 years. Im able to live a normal life now. Too many people doubt and therefore remain skeptical .

    Oh my! I’m only about 16 minutes into this video and I have already learned so much !!! I recently got whammed in both ears with tinnitus after a “strange” viral infection that I suspect was delta virus. I do have both my vaccines (long story) but ended up in the hospital after my ENT put me on massive dose of diuretic/steroid/antiviral cocktail that literally drained all my life saving electrolytes. I almost died. (Another long story)
    I Am now home dealing with my ears and tinnitus , in hopefully a more natural - holistic - cognitive therapy way. Oh thank you so much for this video. I appreciate it so much as I have been in distress.

      @@rezartaprence6235 I hate to say / but mine has not disappeared. It is still with me…however , I did take some time and learned some relaxing techniques and coping skills. I have recently come out of tinnitus distress and can (most days) tune it out now. Some days are better than others … but I do know that it is not going to hurt me and I am no longer in fight or flight mode. Praying 🙏 you recover and yours goes away.

    Dr. Bruce, having clinical depression, anxiety, and bipolar. From what say here it looks like I have a typical case of tinnitus distress. This is now about three or four years since I discovered the noise in my head. My doctor was NO help so took matters into my hands. My trouble varies with the dept of the depression I'm dealing with. Sometimes if the depression is intense the tinnitus is minimal however there's been times when both are intense and high. I have become almost completely unsociable, talk little to people, talking on phone is minimal because it's harder to identify the sounds of a word. Though I know about CBT I had never thought to use it as a resource for tinnitus healing. Recently I started looking into doing CBT therapy sessions thinking I need help to deal with what I'm dealing with but it was more from the perspective of life problems because what's in my head is affected by my external circumstances.
    This session is a very good and a great stepping stone to recovery.

    I've had tinnitus for the last several years, caused by prolonged exposure to extremely loud music without hearing protection. When it first started, it was probably a 6 out of 10 as far as volume, and after so long, it eventually seemed to lower to a 3 out of 10 on its own. A little over a week ago, I had a seemingly random spike. One thing I have noticed is that when I am stressed out, I zone in on the ringing and it's like the volume gets significantly cranked up, and it's scary as hell. However, something as simple as listening to positive videos such as yours and Julian Cowan Hill, the volume has gone down big time. This is why I think that there is a combination of habituation AND de-stressing that can actually lower that volume. I'm in no way out of distress mode, because I'm still very aware of the tinnitus and still feel scared about it. But there is something to be said about the fact that something as simple as some reassurance lowering the volume of my tinnitus really speaks volumes to me.

      Well said Clint Commander, the fact that positive sources can reintroduce the concept of hope when we forget to be hopeful, is for me at least, reason enough to be brave my T, which in itself enables me to have long moments of not focusing on it. This, in turn seems to lower the intensity. In other words, just as easy as a negative downward spiralling sequence can get set in motion, so can a positive one. The mere fact that intermittent periods of ups and downs result in lesser or stronger T perception gives me the courage to continue on the path of habituation. I sincerely hope that others who are in perpetual desperation can find the same solace in the knowledge that it gets better, even if there are periodical spikes.

    18:35 Regarding the pronunciation. While it's true both pronunciations are valid, it's one of those language things where one is only considered valid due to being so widespread. The pronunciation that Bruce refers to as the medical pronunciation is the more technically correct one and the reason for that is because the suffix "itus" when pronounced with a long "i" sound is due to people confusing it with the suffix "itis" such as in "tendonitis". "Itis" is meant to refer to conditions related to inflammation. Tinnitus doesn't necessarily have anything to do with inflammation, is spelled differently, and originally only had one valid pronunciation.

    This is good info for people with mild to moderate tinnitus but a little frustrating to listen to for people that actually have Severe Tinnitus.

      Studies have shown over and over that Severity does not relate to loudness or tone. It also doesn't predict who will suffer. People can have very loud tinnitus that doesn't bother them. Or very soft tinnitus that makes them suicidial. I can easily hear mine over the ocean. But it doesn't bother me. Took me 2 years to habituate.

      Actually it's just the opposite, people with mild tinnitus dont need CBT the people who do need it the most is are severe sufferers cause it's very difficult to deal with and they are helped the majority of time by CBT and some get significant help from it and others only minimal help but the majority do get some benefit from it

    The part around 47:00 definitely described me. I'm really new to tinnitus. I was living the tinnitus-free dream up to a week ago, and since then I've been in a full panic, thinking that if someone doesn't fix this ASAP, the rest of my life will be pure misery. Every other video that tried to make me feel better actually made me feel more helpless. I'm not sure what's so different about this presentation, but it was here that I realized that instead of wanting to hide from my infernal "tone" by blocking it, the badass thing to do is just to treat the tone itself as something that I turned on. Because honestly, the bubbling creeks and pink noise I've been listening to are pretty loud and themselves potentially distracting, right? So what if I played my tinnitus sound to fight my tinnitus? Why not pretend that it's exactly what I did - that right now I'm playing a tinnitus blocker over my tinnitus that sounds just like my tinnitus?
    The idea that helped me the most is that habituation is my only hope, and so exposing myself to my tone *is* actually the therapy, and as such, is actually helping me. Yeah, I'm doing some proper tinnitus habituation as I write this, like a hero. I'm gonna try to sleep tonight without my blocking sounds and celebrate that my brain can get the full firehose of sound, so it gets bored of it sooner. The tone is its own therapy - apparently, that's what I needed to hear.

      hey dude, I hope things are getting better now, 1 month on. You said your tinnitus was only a week old, which makes me hope maybe it was going to get a bit quieter even before habituation.
      I don't hear mine any more. If I stop and concentrate really hard then I realize it is there, and has been there the whole time, but I'm completely habituated to it. It was like this with the clocks in my house growing up, my friends would ask "doesn't that ticking annoy you?" and I'd say "what ticking?" "the clocks! all the clocks!!!!" and I'd stop and listen carefully and sure enough we had at least 3 clocks ticking loudly in every room of the house and I just didn't hear them. The same thing happened with my tinnitus, which I've had since I was a teenager. I thought of it as something that rockstars got, and rockstars are cool, and as a teenager "forever" doesn't mean anything, so I didn't have any concern over it at the start and I think that helped me habituate very quickly

But last time when im not feeling well it comes out, like now im not feeling well i can notice it, but just mild one. Its really how you manage to control yourself that its there, but obviously its our bodys natural sound that we just need to ignore.

    I’m watching these videos for other reasons but I happen to see the title of this one I I remember how distressed I was when I first started having buzzing in my ears due to allergies and ETD. It’s been a few years and it can still be there but I notice it and it doesnt bother me. You really do tune it out!

    Any time I get sick, I'd get really bad ear infections and after so many ear infections, it was I say 4 years ago when tinnitus wouldn't go away after the infection was gone. For the most part, my brain ignores it but it gets bad any time I have head aches, stress or anxiety. So I plan on trying more mindful techniques.

    @Bryan Abrams describes my history and what im going through right now to a T. I have had somatic tinnitus for about 9 years, but started hearing a new sound on my left ear recently and im freaked out and paranoid not unlike what I experienced the first time i got it. Big trouble sleeping right now because of the tremendous anxiety i feel when its time to sleep because the sound is loud and crystal clear at night. But still i feel im able to handle it better this time, what i understand is that i have to strictly focus to work on breaking the negative anxiety cycle around it to be able to sleep normally again. I managed to eventually do it the first time and i will be able to do it again. Im sooo thankful that these videos exist because they help me relax and understand this condition better. I use a pillow speaker at night right now and listen to either this video or masking sounds and i feel an improvement little by little. Excuse me for language glitches English is not my native tounge 😊

    Thank you for posting this. There are some great strategies and tactics that I was able to use right away and my focus has been removed from the tinnitus. This presentation also surprisingly resolved some other symptoms that were clearly stemming from the anxiety of constantly scanning my body for symptoms. Thank you!

    This is exactly what I needed to hear, I've only recently developed this affliction and my emotions have been spiralling downwards. Everything you said resonated such as the doom and gloom and panic searching forums for cures.
    I've signed up for a cbt therapist and I'm going to try my best to habituate like the other 98%.

      Troy Higgins yeah I’ve had it for a few months now and it spiraled me into panic attacks and really bad health anxiety episodes and it’s been complete hell to adjust to... I hear you 100%, eventually we will look back on this time and laugh, I have it too and we need to get through this together, I will also talk to my therapist about this too and hopefully get a cbt treatment plan for it thanks for the suggestion

      @@joselara4392thanks for asking, it's definitely better than it was. The volume decreased by half within a month but has remained the same since.
      I only really hear it in quiet environments now, but am better at filtering it out.
      Fingers crossed the fx322 trial is shown to reduce tinnitus.

    I have unilateral severe tinnitus for 5 years . The simulation gave me brief experience of what bilateral tinnitus would sound like and triggered a short feeling of the same tinnitus distress I had 5 yrs ago.

    I feel like I miss it on days when I don’t hear it which is not very often but I actually look for it throughout the day. When I get busy at work and my mind is busy on task at hand soon as done day is done I honestly am waiting and looking for it. But honestly hate it and love it. People all I can say is keep your head up it does get better just don’t stop doing what you do don’t let it cripple you. Peace and Love.

    Thanks for the very enlightening webinar, i found the information quite supportive. I seem to experience the sensations you refer to and including a fullness or stuffiness of the ear, low grade ear ache and itchy ear canal, sometimes more annoying than the tinnitus itself causing excessive focus at times. During times where I'm not aware of the tinnitus, say during a activity, i find myself periodically checking if its still there...and of course it is! I must stop myself from doing this with some sort of training.

    This is my first week of having RAGING tinnitus and this video is helping me come out of that emotional distress. Googling tinnitus and then seeing there's no cure for it definitely put me in a big spiral of pain.
    Edit: 2/2/22 I think it was mostly covid induced. Got an ear infection like 4-5 days before the rest of the symptoms came in like a cold and fever.. The ringing is much less than what it was. I'm 2 weeks into taking antibiotics. It's still there but maybe 1/4 or 1/5 of what it was. I think I got lucky.

    Several weeks ago I had an absolute gut wrenching migraine that lasted a good 4 days straight, and I started taking Excedrin extra strength which didn’t help so I kept chugging more down, and that cycle actually made my migraines worse because of all the caffeine in Excedrin. The next day I took less Excedrin but my headache got even worse so I took more Excedrin. Shortly after that I started hearing a field of crickets in my ears. Finally after 5 days of nonstop migraines I went to the ER, and mentioned the Excedrin and new Tinnitus symptoms. Now I know that the overdosing on Excedrin which has Aspirin probably caused the Tinnitus. That was 3 weeks ago. I stopped all caffeine and aspirin after the ER told me that Aspirin causes Tinnitus. I got a head MRI which showed no issues, got Botox for migraines last Friday, and went to the audiologist this past Monday and they did a sound test and said my hearing is perfect.
    3 weeks after getting Tinnitus it hasn’t gone away. I don’t know what to do

    I inadvertently habituated 32 years ago when T started. I honestly did not hear it, so he is wrong! I made the mistake of listening for T & began hearing it again 5 weeks ago. I listened to the doctor who invented TRT tinnitus retraining therapy on a Treble Health video . He's an elderly gentleman. He's done research for over 30 years on T. He is also William Shatners doctor. William Shatner no longer notices his bc it is pushed in the background. It can only be heard when you focus on it. I have anxiety, Ive been under extremed stress. Anxiety exasperates T, over the 32 yrs it would turn up when Ive been under stess thats why its been turned up. Its been up longer than usual bc I'm focusing on it and stressed. Its going to fall back again.

    This is my 3rd & last comment about this video. I have anxiety. I've had numerous anxiety sympto.s T is just another one. He said we will have difficulty habituating 😂😂😂 which is OFFENSIVE & WRONG! I want him to know that for those of us who have had horrific symptoms that mimic MS fibromyalgia etc. THIS AIN'T OUR FIRST RODEO DUDE!!! We have had to habituate to bodily pains, phantom pains like burning skin etc. We are not fragile anxiety symptoms have made us stronger than most people who have T! We have had no choice but to tame our fears and our brains to survive anxiety psychosomatics.

    This is so discouraging, because I don’t want to “habituate” I want the sound to go away. this treatment starts with accepting that tinnitus will not go away. I don’t want to believe tinnitus will not go away. I want to believe it WILL go away.       I get it, I feel exactly the same way! I won't accept habituation for the rest of my life. I think the first step to healing is being convinced of being able to heal from this. You have to believe it. And I do. Habituation is just a temporary topic for me. I will habituate temporarily for the sake of the sound getting lower and lower and completely vanishing in the end.

    I have everything he's referring to: tinnitus distress, hypercausis...it all onset about 2 mos ago...but I was already sound sensitive in general and to begin with... (Anyone else HSP?) It's been so distressing! I've lost a lot of sleep, and now set to go see mental health professional for anxiety induced from this all, esp the sound sensitivity... and get into therapy for CBT. It has changed my quality of life 100%. A triggering noise for me is the sound of traffic especially cars driving by close by with louder pipes...makes me feel hopeless... Anyone else experience pain along with it all? For me it's bad aural fullness, random shooting pains, and aching to straight burning...

    My anxiety and distress is getting increasingly worse.
    I used to often not notice my tinnitus, for days and weeks and I would notice my distress and how difficult it was to leave the house and it would dawn on me , how loud the sound in my ears was and wonder at the connection, until I was feeling I had enough correlating data to say - ok this is this.
    But now it’s so loud and screaming there is no way not to be distressed or aware of it and I have had this over a decade sooo
    What u are saying, about what your experience is very different, in fact opposite to my experience,
    I feel happy that you have found this place of just not noticing it
    But it worries me that you can’t really hear what I am saying .
    Like Margeret That her surviving poverty , why can’t I , thst sort of thing.

    I had this last year for a month and a half and my doctor said it was from grinding my teeth and it would go away. It went away for eight months and then showed up again and now it’s been here for months. Anyone else ever had a situation like this?

      I have bruxism all my adult life and never wore a mouth guard. Dentists tried but I was stubborn. Now my teeth are ground down and tiny. I also have issues with my jaw. Recently I got whammed in both ears with tinnitus after a strange viral infection to my left ear. I do think the jaw / neck/ and ear issue is all connected. I’ve been getting some relief doing some Eustachian tube dysfunction exercises and techniques I found on you tube A doctor in California Adam Fields DC on you tube. My ears are draining and my head doesn’t feel so full of fluid. I would definitely get a mouth guard and try to get help with the teeth clinching. I even find myself during the day clinching my jaw. There again. I’m OCD and have anxiety and emotional distress that I just get control of!

      Yes, I recently was referred from my dentist to a Myofacial & TMJ specialist. I’m a clincher & grinder. I’ve been using a custom mouth guard from my dentist, but it’s made zero difference. The Myofacial doctor said since I’m grinding/clinching its caused the nerves around the left side of my brain to be inflamed and places pressure on the nerves and is destroying my jaw bone, and susceptible to lock jaw. 😳
      An appliance created to correct this ranges from $5300 to $6300 with an 85% success rate on tinnitus.
      Who has the $$ for that!
      I’ve been suffering for over 10 years now and so I believe it’s tied to inflammation in the brain, which he said brain inflammation is the reason for the rise of dementia and Alzheimer’s. I’m working on reducing sugar and ANYTHING that causes inflammation…which is most everything.
      It’s PURE TORTURE‼️
      Mine is 24/7 and causing a lot of issues trying to focus and work, sleep is constantly disrupted and it goes back and forth between two different high pitch tones. When I open my mouth wide the pitch of the tone goes REAL high! I can also press on the left side of my temple and the pitch goes REAL high also. I’m so SICK of it.

    I used to have tinnitus which I could cope with quite good during my studies. Now I have a few months free time and I decided to find out where the tinnitus comes from. Since I actively focus myself on it the tinnitus became far worse. Hopefully this will help

      When you said I use to have tinnitus does that mean you were able to cure and you don't have it now if yes could you please share your experiences and how did you cure it ?

      @@sidhu2912 What I mean is that I still had tinnitus at that time but that I was able to cope with it. What worked for me is cognitive behaviourial therapy. It does not take away the tinnitus but you learn to ignore it and to live with it.

    This lecturer is NOT an expert on tinnitus. His estimates of its frequency are outlandishly overstated. Its association with hearing loss is grossly understated. Reversible causes, such as excessive ear wax or middle ear fluid, are not addressed by him. The most usual cause is absolutely known, NOT a mystery, namely noise exposure, which can be in the form of one exposure to a really loud sound at close range, or frequent occupational exposure over a period of months or years (carpenters, heavy equipment operators, construction workers.etc.) As an otolaryngologist, I can tell you that the great majority, probably more than 90%, of patients with tinnitus have co-existing high frequency hearing impairment (HFHI). Post-mortem studies of the inner ears of tinnitus patients show damage to, and/or absence of, some of the hair cells of the cochlea. This is the cause of tinnitus, although as with many things in medicine, not everyone with hair cell damage has tinnitus, and vice versa. Not everyone who smokes gets lung cancer, and some lung cancer patients have never smoked, but 85% of all lung cancer is smoking related. The relationship between HFHI and tinnitus is similar. HFHI is often unnoticed by patients, since the frequencies of the damaged hair cells (4,000-8000 Hz) are not in the frequency range of human speech (250 to 3500 Hz). I do not criticize the lecturer for his lack of knowledge, but only for spreading false information about a medical condition that is NOT in his field of expertise. As for anxiety over tinnitus, the first few months are initially alarming, bothersome, and yes, anxiety-provoking. But the brain learns to ignore it after a few months, WITH OR WITHOUT PSYCHOLOGICAL "TREATMENT." I have had tinnitus for 30 years and don't even notice it despite its always being there. I know of no controlled study that conclusively demonstrates benefit from tinnitus "treatment," although it is well known that the mere presence of an empathetic professional has at least a 60% placebo effect of improvement. No doubt some patients who are "treated" for tinnitus of recent onset may attribute the natural improvement over time to the "treatment." Tinnitus is NOT a disability, since it does not interfere with any human activity with which I am familiar. As with any human condition, if there is a potential or real financial reward for its being a "disability", disability will be claimed---and rewarded. Some patients with tinnitus have enough hearing loss to require hearing aids for social communication, and hearing aids are known for making tinnitus less noticeable through a masking effect. I dislike professionals who goldmine tinnitus patients stringing them along under the guise of tinnitus "treatment," when in fact there is NO KNOWN EFFECTIVE PHYSICAL TREATMENT OR CURE FOR ESSENTIAL TINNITUS.

    Thanks. Tinnitus, Musical Ear Syndrome and Audio Pareilodia can be helped through cognitive behavioral syndrome techniques but finding out the actual techniques or a therapist who knows them on the internet and here in the south is a challenge. Much appreciation. I have found an audiologist in Austin Texas who specializes in tinnitus CBT. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Tinnitus is a terrific book. Phantom voices (with neutral or positive messages) is a difficult phenomena of MES which can still be dealt with. Dr. Neil Bauman's book on Phantom Voices is useful as is Dennis Gilmore's book: The 15 Minute Challenge: Learn How to Quickly Control Your Tinnitus. Best.

    I hear a high pitch in my right ear; have done for years. It doesn't bother me that much...guess I'm habituated to it...however a few months ago I started hearing a rumbling AND feeling what seems like vibrations, but only in a specific geographical location. I can't tell which ear is hearing it, or possibly both? IDK. The rumbling and vibrations drive me crazy. About 3 days a week it's not there...also sometimes the rumbling sounds like a high speed train. I'm not convinced that this new sound is tinnitus, but my PCP thinks it is. I can leave my home and the roar/rumbling and vibrations are gone and they stay gone, until I return home. I'm not sure what to do or whom to see for help. I'm looking for a new place to live, thinking my home is affected by an energy source. I live near a river where companies pump their effluent into the river...the sound could be a pump, or the energy from the pump creating the sound and the vibrations. I have considered that I might have 'rocking boat syndrome' or a vestibular disorder but my balance is fine.

      I have a little fluttering / rumbling too in my left ear and just read online it’s the timpanic membrane regulating the sound vibrations in the ear. It may also be wax in the ear or the eustacian tubes but the first reason sounds right.

    This explains so much! Thank you. But doesn’t anything that focuses on tinnitus like listening to pink noise or a daily diary keep it alive ie empower it? Aren’t we really supposed to be ignoring it to allow the limbic system to calm down? I’m a musician so my hearing is very important.
    Also, Peter Studenik, James Karthaus and Julian Cowan Hill who healed from this have some great support videos.

      Exactly my thoughts. Mask it but not mask it!. Habituated but not habituate to it.! Listen to it but not listen to it. Because I want to make sense out of this. If I need to habituate then I should never mask so I can habituate. If I mask all the time I will never habituate. Also there is another theory about if you hear it more your brain CEMENTS it. Meaning it will always “look for it” so maybe masking is better? Do you know what I mean which theory is right? If the cement theory is true, you should always masking. Ughhhhhhhhhhh

    What they displayed was mild ! Mine can be as bad as hearing a bunch of locust or crickets. normally it a loud ringing that effects my hearing.

      I hear the loud crickets too. I have for about as long as I can remember but a couple of months ago, post COVID and vaccine, it doubled in volume and it's become debilitating. I feel like this video can help

    L-Theanine breaks the blood brain barrier. Artichoke leaf can assist with oxidation of brain toxicities. Also, MENSA has looked at this for its members.

      Interesting as Ginko, taurine, magnesium, bioflavanoids, zinc and niacin have also been mentioned. Upper cervical adj also removes the blood brain barrier. Any other info and how is it working for you? I’ve been following Liam and Julian.

      That's definitely the bigger concern for me. I've had trouble for years, but it worsened in my left ear about 2 years ago and I freaked out about it. The tinnitus was bad, but my reaction was the worst part of it. I also noticed that it didn't bother me as much if I thought of something else. A distraction would make me feel better about it and it wasn't as loud. As soon as I started to whimper and feel bad for myself, it was always worse.
      When I recognized that the worst of it was my panic, I started to focus on that and force myself to recognize that I could enjoy a football game or whatever regardless of the screaming in my ear. I didn't need to die to escape it. I didn't need to escape it at all. Life still had good moments.
      The more I forced that attitude on myself, the less it bothered me.
      I had another bad mental flare up a couple of weeks ago, but I'm calming down again and it's not so bad.

      @@belboz70 I am new to the T game but all of my research has pointed to habituation being the key to success. Even if you have struggled for a long time you can still retrain your brain with natural processes.
      I started a playlist of videos that helped me understand the way forward. Maybe it will help you out.

    I have tinnitus, but I am able to put it in the background and so most of the time I’m not aware of it , like I wasn’t until I saw this video lol mine is the high pitched continuous tone

There are so many useful principles and techniques mentioned, and I was able to utilize and benefit from some of them right away, even though I'd been bothered throughout the day by loud tinnitis. Thank you so much for posting, and I will use these techniques going forward - gave me a much improved outlook! 😊 Btw, it was particulary helpful to hear that it's not a dangerous condition, per se.

    It was really good when suddenly I didn't hear sound of tinnitus last night. But it was replaced by terrible headache. I feel I had a mild stroke attack. I am learning to accept and wait for God's perfect will and timing to heal me. It's genetic issue and impairment due to corruption of the body. You will prefer it than having a brain cancer.

    The sample tinnitus sounds are the best of the worst real sounds that. I hear at times , people in church says, don't think about it , wish it was that easy, went to Ga mountains , high altitude made the sounds go extreme , causes sleep aptnea , anxiety , and depression .
