Contrarely to our beliefs, it is the energy consumption that dictates the gdp, not the other way around. If you look at oil production and evolution of gdp, you see that variations on the oil production in the world are soon followed by similar changes in the world's gdp. And it makes sense, with less energy you can't extract, transform, exchange, build .. more. Even if you have capital to spend, if there is no energy there is no economy. (fun fact, we reached the peak of production of conventional oil a few month before the 2008 crisis) Real economy = energy. Look at the energy spent around the world and you'll understand the economy
I'm a bit confused because I see the German countries of Hesse and Hannover in the chart but I also see Germany there. If so does that mean that Germany is just used to show the combined electrical usage of the smaller German states as one or is it something else entirely? Because Germany only formed in 1871.
This is because the data points jump from 0 up to 1 (or any other positive number) due to integer precision. Whenever that happens, the "Top Growth Rate" shows an "Infinity" next to the affected country due to a division be zero. This is a bug, the expected result is it shouldn't even appear in "Top Growth Rate" for that time step in the first place.
What absolutely unmitigated bollocks. No one can possibly know how much coal a country used in any given time frame over a century ago to the exact 2.2lbs. Ridiculous.
Thats why its measured in per million kg. 1 kg on the graph = 1 million kg so it is not overly exact. Even if it was, the precision of the measurements doesnt change the accuracy of the results. They could very well be vastly different to the real figures, but just because they are to some s.f. doesnt make them any less of more accurate.
In late 80' it was like, What the hell am I doing between many times larger countries*, it's time to not wasting energy anymore! *38 million Poland was using as much energy as, 800 million India LOL
