This video is exactly what I needed for part of my Backslash project. With my Rustler 4x4, replacing the plastic parts with the steel CV driveshafts was one of the first upgrades I did.
I always enjoy watching this video this also helps me memorize how to do this upgrade when it's time to do my truck sometime next year. Love your cars and trucks traxxas and can't wait to more new models come out.
Traxxas i love your products, but not installing metal drive shafts on any product u sell as brushless is pretty much theft. You know we have to upgrade these as a requirement.

Will the X01 driveshafts fit the aluminum steering blocks and Rear axle carriers that come on a slash 4x4 ultimate or will i have to get X01 specific ones?
I broke the tread blot clean off where the wheel attaches and was wondering if I can just order the second and not a whole new shaft I paid 100 bucks just for it to break the first run
I have a Stampede Vxl 2wd and was wondering if these will fit on It. I have BROKEN 8 STOCK DRIVESHAFTS in the PAST MONTH so I'm looking for an upgrade.
MrErikw26 Sweet. I got some wheel bearing grease to put in, I just need to do it. I have a trx4 so I have the portal boxes, the diffs, and the transmission. Thanks again!
You're good, just need to swap out the bearings with 3 sets of #5117 that they mentioned in the video. Swap the 5mm ID bearings with 6mm ID. I got the XO-1 axles for Christmas and need to get the bearings for the install.
Will this upgrade, at least for the rear work on the Slash 2WD, I’m having a rough time keeping axles straight, or intact. I’m looking for something that will hold up to a Mamba Monster Monster Slash 2WD build
Hey im pretty sure u already found a solution but but I would recommend buy a aftermarket steel axel set for a 2wd it might not be traxxas branded parts but it will get the job done
HA HA HA! That is how Traxxas makes their money.....upgrades....all their vehicles come with printed parts lists WITH upgrades because they KNOW the stock parts are GARBAGE.
The BL-2S 4X4 Slash is a good platform to start with for both entry level and anyone looking to put more powerful motor/esc, especially on a budget. It comes stock with the HD suspension and drive train right out of the box. Those axle might all be plastic, but believe me, they are definitely strong. I have a Castle 1410 3800kv motor and Castle Copperhead esc running 3S, and 2.8 Proline Trenchers. It's a wheelie machine 🤣 with a ton of power and haven't broke an axle yet. Got it just over a year ago now.
I need to Install Xo1 rubber tyres on my Slash, so I need to do this as well but I want upgraded Xo1 drive shafts if possible...My Slash 4wd is a beast on pavement with a 1/8th motor I run over 70 mph with a 3s Lipo killed a few bodys that way already
Considering that the Slash 4x4 & Rustler 4x4 use most of the same parts...especially where the front & rear sub-chassis, and associated parts, are concerned...there's no reasons why they wouldn't. of course, if you have the 2WD Rustler, then I can't say.
i broke all 4 stock shafts in about 2 weeks, replaced with the steel shafts, broke the ends off in a few months, no big deal easy to get parts, but want XO-1's but cant find any in australia and traxxas wont send them
Just sitting here watching for no reason. But you drill the wheels from 5 to 6mm. Yet the wheel nuts fit? I guess they cut the end down an extra mm to keep the same lock nuts?
Does anyone kno since the ultimate comes with the aluminum blocks and stuff.. is it just a driveshaft swap. Or do you still have to change the carriers and blocks to fit the xo1 shafts?
Just broke my 32 day old Slash VXL 3s 4x4's plastic rear axle, and I have no intention of using any Traxxas parts because I feel you design them to break just to suck more $$ out of us!!!
Those metal shafts though whether you use the xo1 sized, or regular size, are actually really good. Better that most others. Just keep them greased and they last. Cheap to rebuild too

This is a stupid expensive upgrade, this should come standard with the platinum and ultimate. A little disappointed with traxxas on this one..
I agree. For the price you have to pay for them, it should be included.
This upgrade is overkill, a set of cheap metal driveshafts off Amazon is more than enough for most people. It’s cool to see this as an option

IDK I HAD TO BUT NEW STUFF DX
Lo Ranger use torx
If it’s super rounded there’s not much you can do other than cutting it off or drilling out the screw and replacing the parts
Drill it out. It takes forever but eventually you will win. You can also use a dremel.
You have to buy a stripped screw kit that will back out any hex screw so easy but it cost 20$ and you will love it buy it at menards

Wait so does the 6452 shafts with the 6455 rear hub carriers fit the 2 wheel drive rustler?
What type of “quality automotive grease” do you recommend? I’m a mechanic and am wondering the best type to use.
The Farmavaitor for diffs I always used the heavy "blue" wheel bearing grease, for bearings I always used white lithium grease.
MrErikw26 Thanks. I have been using some dielectric grease. It is thick but works good. I’ll try the blue grease next time!
Maxima grease
The Farmavaitor gives it a nice "posi" action until the grease loosens up

I have a snap on 4x4 the rear shift drive where shift drive goes just leaking oil what should I do Plz?
Why are the normal drive cups for 12mm hex 7 dollar for 1 and for xo1 drive cups 11 dollar for 2?
Witch one is stronger for bashing the standard upgrade or the xo-1 shafts?
XO-1 shafts. They have a larger 6mm stub axle.
Can you add only one set of gears at a time like say just do your back axle gears and do your frontOr would that mess things up
Great now I have to upgrade my Traxxas Slash Ultimate.
If you use these in a monster slash 4x4 build will you have to drill out the stampede 2.8 tires?
yes the 2.8 stampede tire is a 12 mm hex and the new hex in the vid is 17 mm get new tires with 17mm Hex
correction: you will need o drill out but ignore what i said about the size of hex
