The new Withings Scanwatch 2 is out and it looks A LOT like the original Scanwatch. I compared the differences on the inside and the outside. I'll compare and contrast the 2 models, right next to each other.

TBH, I really like the looks of the Scanwatch 1 a lot over the 2. So much so that the new features didn't really click with me and I sent the 2 back. At the end of the day, temperature and all the new things don't produce anything meaningful as of now. Sleep tracking is still not including REM phases, what gives, Withings! Anyhow, you really nailed all the differences except one dupe: the altimeter is in the S1 already. Cheers!
Design of Scanwatch (1) is clearly better. Charging method of the new Scanwatch 2 is another downside. No thanks Withings.
The new charger is a genius idea as I've been using 6 smartwatches for a good decade at times on both arms with the magnetic clip on and ALL of them collected skin residue and developed rust after a year and max 4 years. No contacts directly on the skin is great and convinced me to get one. Thanks 😊 Probably also great for people with allergies as the contact isn't stainless steel but a mix of metal and seldom to never gold. Thanks again for the video.✌️

I`ve done it too and i totaly regret it. The measurements are completly wrong when it comes to HR and Blood Oxy.
Kinda underwhelming i think(?) Temp tracking isn't important to me, and i like the design of the original better.

Seems like it was just enough iteration for a "refreshed" model but if you don't need temp tracking I can see why the upgrade wouldn't make sense. The Scanwatch in general seems to have a longer lifeline than many smart watches since it's never been about the "newest" tech features.
@@TechItBeforeYouWreckIt yeah seems that way. I've read a theory that they planned to release a full new watch but went over budget, so they finished the temp feature and silently released the Scanwatch 2 for the profit. It kinda makes sense.
(no review copies were sent out, as opposed to the first Scanwatch. Which made it hard to find info about it when i was considering it, probably intentional from Withings.)

I do have the Scanwatch 1; ended up getting a re-furbished replacement recently as got condensation around the 2 year mark- there are a number of people who have had this issue so hope they have improved the “stick ability” of the back. I agree with your overall assessment that it’s just more elegant and looks more like a classic expensive watch whereas SW 1 looks perhaps a bit sportier but a bit cheaper. Bottom line beyond looks will be accuracy of sensors so any thoughts on that 2-3 weeks down the line gratefully received. Finally just to say you have a really engaging manner and put the information across really well
@davidcrowe5621 thanks for the feedback, having fun doing this UA-cam stuff. Yes, accuracy is so tough to compare without wearing each watch for a month, etc. Hope to have a more detailed review in the coming weeks though. Cheers!

I mind if it worth it to change my Scanwatch (3 years old) for the Scanwatch 2. What do you think ?
3 years is pretty old, but if it's still working great and you don't care about the added sensors, I'm not really sure it's worth the upgrade. $350 is a big price tag for minor upgrades in my opinion.
Pretty straight forward I think.. if you'd like the temparature tracking you update, if you can do without it, and your battery is still good, it seems there's no need.
I have the Scanwatch 1 and although it is very tempting to get an upgrade the shown improvements are not convincing enough. I also dont really understand what the benefits will be for me to subscribe to the paid service. I think i would benefit very much from a function that correlate different elements of my life together. For this i would like to track my meals, my mood, my overall health in the app also. The App has to be designed in a way that it can show me what really makes me feeld bad and what contributes to my health. It may also ask questions at the right time.
I'm with you, don't see the value for the subscription service but I think some people with specific health tracking needs might see it. Scanwatch 1 is awesome, def not a big enough difference for most people to upgrade. IMHO
The hour markers at 12 and 6 look quite off centre?
Doesn't look that way IRL. Perhaps the video was shooting at a slight angle?
I think the original ones look better. I think the red step counter hand adds some needed color to the rest which is black and white so a little bland. And I love black and red combination in watches.
Also prefer that there are numbers around the dials. It makes is easier to read and also makes it looks better.
The Version 2 dial looks too simple for me.
Also the pointy hands look sharper. All small details, but it adds up.
The biggest selling point to me would be the better display.
Interesting take. I like em both. Don't see enough of a difference to pick one of the other. I kind of wish they changed more.
@@TechItBeforeYouWreckIt I was buying them a month ago and decided to buy previous version, because it was half the price and looked better in my eyes. The only reason I was considering the second version was the display, but the one in the first version is absolutely fine now that I have it.

I have a Pebble Time Steel and it was the best watch I ever had. It sadly died randomly around 2 years back and there was no way to bring it back to life.
Since then I’ve had the original Withings Sports watch (before even scan watch 1).
Very envious that your Pebble still works! Somewhere in my house is the first black plastic pebble but I need to find the will to go hunting for it.

Well, not exactly. I have a ScanWatch and it doesn't look anything like your ScanWatch. It looks way more like the ScanWatch 2. Mine has no number, it has silver tick marks. The progress dial at the bottom has a silver not a red hand. So I think it depends on the choice you made when you bought the original ScanWatch. Just FYI.
Are you sure you have the ScanWatch and not the old Steel HR?
@@Got-lander I actually have both. I'm definitely using the scan watch. It fixed all of the problems with the steel HR. Namely, how hard it was to see the tick marks on the face.
@@Got-lander I think the difference is that I have the smaller version. I believe it's 38mm vs. 42 mm. The new one actually looks almost identical to my old one in that size.

@christoph2079 yes, hard to tell right now. I'll have to wear one for a month and then wear the other for a month to compare readings. 😳
I bought the Scanwatch 2 and sent it back. There was a dent on the bezel. However I didn’t like the new design and prefer the original Scanwatch. The new version has hands that are not as luminous at night and the charger is an abomination. You also don’t get the carry case. So I’ve swapped my 3 year old Scanwatch for a new ‘old’ model. £180 during Black Friday
