Your video is not 100% accurate to spot fakes. Some lenses have gold etching. Some also have different screws and cases. Between my wife and I we have 4 pairs. 2 bought directly from Maui Jim and 2 from authorized Eye Doctors office. Only 2 of the 4 had cases that matched. Also screws varied. All do have style names and patent # on them. All were also registered with Maui Jim for warranty.
You should specify that this video is about specific models of MJs and does NOT apply to every pair of MJs. I have several pairs of the MJ Sport glasses and all the rules you mentioned do not apply. Some have the gold font on the lens and none of them have nose pieces like that with the MJ logo under the pad and the frame isn't made of metal. Your video is misleading as you make it sound like you're describing key factors for every pair of MJs.
I don't buy Maui Jim because they have styled their name like Ray-Ban, instead of making their own logo like say Tom Ford. I collect Ray-Ban sunglasses 👓 over £160, cheaper ones are made in China 🇨🇳 and are complete rubbish 🗑 why they make cheap rubbish 🗑 I don't know because they risks their premium priced ones, if they get a name for selling cheap Chinese 🇨🇳 ones, then I'm sure their premium level customers will stop buying them, I know I will. Warning ⚠️ to Luxottica, you keep making cheap rubbish 🗑 in China 🇨🇳 and get Ray-Ban a bad name and you can forget selling your premium range, the name must be of high quality sunglasses 👓 sold only in elite 😎 stores such as Harrods, House of Frazer etc., not on ebay, Walmart etc., you want to stop ⛔️ supplying such cheap stores, if you want to keep the premium name. Bauch & Lomb did what your doing and where did you find them?! In the gutter close to bankruptcy! Are you that obtuse? Surely you haven't forgot it was only 23 years ago! I broke a pair Kawai. Bought a new pair on Amazon. They looked different AND were smaller. Then I noticed the lettering was different. Then I noticed the bird on the nose pads were missing. Then I could tell the new ones were not etched. From there I went to your video and any doubt was erased with what you said about the box and the twine...

Don't fool yourself. Even brick and mortar stores sell all sorts of counterfeit merchandise - including sunglasses. It's all a crap shoot - especially when it comes to designer brands.
Did you report them? If not why not? It's a criminal offence to sell fake goods as genuine real items made by the genuine manufacturer and it's our duty to report fraud! If your making this up, then you should be prosecuted I've took a screenshot of what you claim and intend to ask Amazon if it's true and if they say no it's not then I will put pressure on them to prosecute you for making false allegations because we need to trust them! 🥶
Great video. Just so everyone knows I was duped on eBay last week. The glasses I bought were great fakes. They checked all the boxes in this video. After wearing them outside I noticed a harsh blue glare (Maui Jim baby Beach Hawaiian blue). This made me suspicious so I used a magnifying glass to look at the fine print on the ear piece. There it was- Mabe in Japan. They had the right screws, twine, bird on nose pad, etc etc. I got my $200 back spent another $100 and bought the real deal from a reputable store
And your real deal are not made in Japan? Made in Japan does not mean they are fake because Maui Jim sunglasses are either made in Italy or made in Japan. What is the model of your sunglasses?
TLDR! Been wearing MJ’s since I went to their little shack shop outside of Lahaina, Hawaii during my honeymoon I believe back in 1994 and bought my first pair of Maui Jim Kaanapali 501 rimless polarized sunglasses there. This was when REVO, RayBan and OP ruled the market. Nobody hardly had heard of Maui Jim back then. But I loved them so much - over the past 20+ years I’ve bought 11 of the exact same pair now!! (Either from losing them, breaking them or 2 got stolen while travelling)😡 Anyway I appreciate ppl making these videos esp for high end watches & like you said Ray Bans from China / Asia are really pumping out some high end replicas now - that are so good, it’s near impossible to tell them apart. That said I wanted to clarify 2 points you made here as they (Maui Jim) didn’t always do what you’re claiming and noticed just now on eBay there’s allot of “vintage” used glasses being sold which are 100% legit. Your “new in box 2021” tests are 100% spot on correct - but for vintage gear, not so much... And despite owning 11 of the same pair (now just discontinued and left my last pair in a hotel and went straight back only to find room service had already cleaned the room and were gone so assume housekeeping took them) double 😡😡 - I’m now on the hunt for my 12th pair (I’m 6’3” tall with a XL head) obviously not for brains 🧠 as I keep losing these at $275 (average) a pop!! 💰 but are the only comfy polarized glasses that fit me and being rimless they never went out of style. But I have now called MJ HQ direct to see if they had parts to cobble a pair together or if they had any NOS laying around. Nada! They’re completely gone. But back on point. Original MJ sunglasses 😎 used to come in a black carry faux leatherette-type case with a black or grey felt liner and no fancy coloured flowered bag (that doubles as a wash-free lens cleaning towel too) 👍🏻 instead they just gave you a tiny little Ray Ban style gray square cloth with no markings that I recall. (I’ve always bought mine from either Sunglass Hut or Maui Jim direct) - So; for starters from at least 1994-2010+\- they used only the black cases AND the original logo on the upper right lens (looking thru them) was indeed etched in but WAS bronze or copperish coloured. Not silver like today’s newer models. So don’t be so fast to judge a “vintage” older pair you may see online immediately as fakes. 2nd is this Bird 🐦 or Parrot 🦜 stamp nosepiece. I’ve never even heard of that till I watched your video. So when I was just talking to MJ’s HQ (Illinois not Japan. But may be mfg’d in Japan- plus MJ has been bought and sold and bought back again several times by different Sunglass companies I think the last time was by RayBan and then MJ bought it back). Dunno for sure 🤷♂️ but that’s another long story for another day! Anyway - think when Ray Ban or Oakly owned them they were in San Diego or San Fran for a few years - as that’s where I mailed mine a few times when I needed replacement lenses. But I digress again (sorry for the scattered message. Typing at red lights in rush hour - NOT whilst driving) but back to point #2. They confirmed that the nose piece bird logo was only added like in 2016 (she said “just a few years ago”) and like I just said, having had a dozen pair of the same sunglasses myself and even now looking at “new” old stock pics that I have been able to find at like Sunglass Hut or even Costco - none of those pics (of my model - the Kaanapali) have that bird on the nosepiece. And since the CSR rep I spoke with at MJ said it’s only been in place for a few yrs - once again, if you find a used vintage pair online that are a few years old and they don’t have the parrot 🦜 logo. Don’t immediately go accusing the person if they’re older “vintage” models. Now-If they’re claiming they’re new 2021 models and it doesn’t have the silver Maui Jim etched lens logo or nose piece parrot 🦜 then you know those are cheap knock offs. But 15 years is a long time and •allot• of used lost/stolen legit sunglasses circulating around out there that are legit that ppl find and sell online to make a quick buck. My brother worked at a Johnny Rockets restaurant one summer out in SoCal and would dig thru the lost and found box after 30 days and made a killing selling Ray Bans, Gucci and Oakleys and other fashion brands that ppl would forget and never come back for and claim. He knew what sold and what the “In demand” frames were and was always the 1st in line every 30 days to take his pick of the litter so to speak and easily made $3K-$5K a month reselling other ppl’s lost goods. (Sucks for me) + cell phones too. Amazed at how many phones get left behind! Anyway. Decent video and good tips. Just wanted to add my 2cents that just because they may be in a black case and have a gold/bronze stamped lens and no parrot 🦜 on the nosepiece doesn’t mean they aren’t “vintage”. Also double check the Part Number. It’s always MJ5XX-XXX stamped on both the temple and box. Since mine are flexi frames they had no hinges or screws. So the Phillips screw head tip is another excellent trick to spot a replica Knock off. But not applicable obviously with rimless flexi frames. Peace.
@@Emerald1969 need more info to help decide?! Which model did you buy? They said in the ad they were “vintage”? Are the plastic clear bits (parts) yellowing from age (that happens the most with older sunglasses) - is the model # stamped on or engraved and what colour is it? The obvious Q’s come from my previous novel on the topic I wrote already. What colour is the case, the Maui Jim logo on the lens and is it worn/faded like it’s 15-20 years old? Does it have a parrot in the nosepiece? Since I no longer have my 1990’s-2000’s Maui Jims I can’t comment on the serial number part but assume it should have something on there - but if it’s ink and 25+ years old (mine were from 1994 so am pretty sure the ink would’ve worn off after 27 years)! But if MJ engrave their model and series #’s then at least that should be there - but I’m also thinking they were ink stamped on even today as the frame is too narrow to engrave on and surely the newer (2010+) years would have a serial number on them and should match the cardboard box if you have that? The case is used for several diff. models so you won’t find any markings on there sadly. Look for worn off ink. How old did the seller claim they were? If you bought off eBay maybe post a link to the closed auction so we can look at the pics? That’ll help us the best to determine if they’re authentic. I’m still hunting for my 12th pair. eBay are almost all fakes from Japan now. One guy outta NYC has a boatload of “NOS” he claims but is asking and getting $375!!! - but he can’t supply any paperwork proving they came from MJ - so I passed those over. Since I can’t get replacement lenses even the few legit old “vintage pairs” listed for around $185 are so scratched up - it’s kinda pointless to buy them without being able to get replacement lenses from MJ. Why they Discontinued my model is still a mystery to me as it was a top seller for 25+ years and still in demand. 🤷♂️ Good luck.

Amazon don't sell fakes!
You don't think they would risks their name for selling a few pairs of Maui Jim, if they did then it was your duty to report them to the police.
DID YOU REPORT THEM?
You could of just sent them back to maui with $ 75 and they would of sent you a brand new pair
@@The.Best.Collector I would almost think you were being sarcastic.😁
You didn't compare the lenses between the 2.
Not all maui jim have a brid on nose piece
What if the cleaning cloth is wrapped in a black paper wrap?
are all the fakes in gold writing on the lenses?
To me, Amazon sellers are exactly the same as eBay. Unless it’s sold by Amazon directly.
That’s why we launched our own website ShadeReviewStore.com where we authentic everything we sell!
Were did you get the fake pair on ebay
What about taysunglasses on facebook
Do all Maui Jim have parrot on nose rest?
This is a really helpful video, you handsome son of b**ch :)
Haha thanks man!
Whoa! You revealed all the secrets; now fake sellers will fix them based on this awesome feedback. :)
Fakes sellers just buy the real pair in the first place
I always go in store, when buying my Maui Jim’s. You know what your getting then.
Don't fool yourself. Even brick and mortar stores sell all sorts of counterfeit merchandise - including sunglasses. It's all a crap shoot - especially when it comes to designer brands.
Buy em straight from the website 🤷🏻♂️
Eye-opening!!
thank you
Very nice review 👍
Thanks!
I thought Maui Jims have serial numbers?
THANK YOU!!!!
Very helpful detailed video!
yea ebay is the dark underbelly of e-commerce.
Why don’t you compare the lenses?!
I did but I accidentally cut it out of the video. The lenses in the fakes were awful compared to the Maui Jim
Thanks for the video, helped a lot! I just received fakes bought on amazon. It was sold by an authorized seller but “fulfilled” by Amazon.
Thanks for the info.
Is there an updated guide for the new packaging?
Brilliant,,thanks a lot
No problem thanks for watching!

maui jim sunglasses are the best
Peace.
I bought a vintage pair that I can't find a serial number. I wonder if they could still be real. Thoughts?
Amazon is full of fakes too. And like others have said, many Maui Jims have golden etching.
I just bought some off Amazon and it didn't even come with a pouch
Your information is wrong they come from Italy and/or Peoria Illinois
