I got a pair of these second hand when my friends uncle passed away. He worked for Lockheed (probably where he got them). I had never heard of them and never saw them in stores and figured it was just some dead brand from the 70's. But they were the best glasses I ever had. Definently going to look for some new ones. Glad I stumbled on this video!

Just bought a pair of the Aviator Matte Chrome and American Grey lenses. I actually went with non-polarized since I have two sets of Ray-Ban Aviators that are both polarized. The non-polarized have their advantages in some cases where you are looking at screens or dashboards with no interruption of viewing. Great pair of sunglasses; I like Ray Bans but love these RE! Great quality, and most of all BUILT IN THE USA!! Very rare these days. Please let the folks at RE know I bought them not only for the quality but for the USA manufacturing aspect!

I also bought my brand new Randolph Engineering Crew Chief in 1995 with gun metal frame and neutral gray lens. I'm still using it up to the present. That's more than 26 years! The nose pads just a bit yellow but it still looks awesome. I think I bought it for about $25 in peso equivalent here in the Philippines. Excellent quality! Thanks RE!

now dont get me wrong the rayban are stylish and do the job and are very good but the Randolph are so much better a league apart honestly av had Persol rayban maui jim Gucci and the Randolph are better

Be great if you could comment on each lens tint that Randolph offers......frames are one thing, but what the lens does wrt light is where sunglasses sink or swim..how much light is transmitted---sometimes, cloudy days and low light--more light let through is better.

@TheWhateverGuy oh those were cheap 20$ glasses , few years later lens began to peel and this was the beginning for me to start looking for a more expensive pair.

Thanks for the video, I'm a big fan of Randolph Engineering. I have not tried the Hamilton, but have several of the other variants you reviewed, mostly the Concorde/Sportsman. I found the 55mm square aviator is a little too big for my liking so I may try a 52mm next.

Hey stephen, what size is your face in terms of temple to temple (frame size). Sorry for the question but i am doubtful about getting the 52 or 55 mm myself.
@@alioshamichelen6588 Hey, hope I can help. My temple to temple measurement is around 135mm. I've tried both the 55mm and the 52mm Randolph Aviators and I've decided the 52mm is too small aesthetically and functionally.
While the 55mm aviator feels large, the reason is that the bridge is so wide to accomodate flight gear, or a larger nose.
My favorite aviator fit is the Roka Falcon which has a smaller bridge and a similar lens size.

Aliosha Michelen Sure. Roka is a lightweight sport crossover sunglass, much lighter weight than Randolph, but nylon lenses, not glass. There are similar “knockoff” square aviator styles out there that fit similar, just look for a bridge width smaller than Randolph’s 20mm. By the way, I have found the Randolph Concorde 57mm and Anderson frame to fit me really well.

When deciding between a pair of American Optical Original Pilots or a pair of Randolph Engineering Aviators, I went with the AOs because they were the original brand worn by the Gemini and Apollo astronauts and that was the legacy I was after. I wear my AOs every day and love 'em. But now I really want the 23k/American Tan lenses combo that Ryan Gosling wears in The Nice Guys, and AO doesn't offer comparable lenses so Randolph it is. I just wish they offered Aviators with skull temples, I live in South Florida and it's hot as hell and I sweat and I'm concerned the bayonets will result in sliding down my sweaty nose.
Both brands are excellent! As for Randolph, they have the best bridge pads I've ever used. I live in Alabama, so it gets pretty muggy here too, and Randolph always surprises me with how well they stay put as compared to most brands.

I have problem with Randolph AVIATOR C 23K GOLD sunglasses with color
issue & notepad broken because of low quality will you review it? Randolph is not co-orating

Obviously top quality sunglasses. You just have to decide if they're worth it. You can get very nice aviators for a lot less that don't have the same "credentials". And by the way, don't lose them 🙂
I found the nose support on the original military version (Aviator) is more comforatable and fit better than the latest commercial one by Randolph. from now on I'll seek only the mil issued.
Was it just the angle or the pads themselves? You can always adjust the nose support. They're bendable.
@@BeastMadeReviews I have had 2 commercial ones and two mill aviator but I broke one side of the nose support on one commercial pairs resulting from bending it to fit my nose. Now only one modern randolph and two mil issued left. The commercial and mil ones use different nose support design. I don't understand why but I need not to adjust anything for the mil issued one. Both are 52mm size but a 55mm commercial fit me well unlike the smalller size.
Pretty sure the pair he wore in Madmen were the 23k gold w/AGX lenses, but I guess I could be wrong. They definitely appear to have a green tint to them...
Randolph told me the specific model, which I can't remember at the moment, but I think I put it in the video. Either way, you can't go wrong with any choice from Randolph. 😊

Hi! Can I ask if which will fit me 52mm or 55mm of Randolph Aviator? I only have one sunglass as of now its a Ray ban wayfarer ease and the size of it says 50-22-140 and it fits me well. I have a round face tho.
Arrange my traditional Randolph sunglasses for the last 8 years and love them every day can't recommend them enough

Well my square Aviators are glass, and they're not really heavy. The difference between them and the ultralight plastic lenses is noticeable, but I don't think I would say the glass lenses are heavy.

I don't think they make regular prescription glasses. But I think they do make prescription sunglasses.

Eh...stuck on Ray Ban. Got 7 pairs and STILL want more. I'd love some Maui Jims though. I just can't bring myself to spend 300 or better on one pair AND not being able to try them on first. I guess there are Maui Jims somewhere in GA..but I can't bring myself to take a trip to the mall just for that. And trust me..if I am going for that..that's all I can afford to buy that day at the mall.
I understand. Everyone finds their way to a product that they love. With me, it's Randolph. They're definitely worth it! But Ray Ban and Maui Jims are very good too.
You mentioned different coating’s. For me this is a bad thing because the ones I’ve had picked lots of scratches easily. I find non coated crystal lenses to be better. Question, are these glasses all crystal lenses or some form of plastic?
Randolph offers both options. My original Aviators are glass, and the rest are plastic. But glass should be an option on all their models.

Well it would be nice if they made an 8 base curve model. Classic 6 base aviator (square or teardrop) let in way too much like from the sides.
I know they have a few other models. Not sure if they have a different curve or not.
@@BeastMadeReviews unless I missed something on their website, they do not. I’m not being nit picky but the older I get, the more irritating it is to get blasted by intense light bleeding in from the sides. As an interesting note, take a look at pictures of people wearing classic shaped aviators in bright sun. 9 times out of 10 they are squinting. I’m far beyond trying to impress anyone with sunglasses so I wear them primarily if eye protection. I’d love to own a pair of RE sunglasses, but alas, it’s not to be.

Hello, can you please share what color perception does the lens provide when you see through it? You mentioned that the outside is blue tint but the inside is brown tint. Thank you.
there are a few places online that discuss this. I think Randolph's website even goes into detail on the colors too. If I recall correctly, black is most common and just affects the brightness. Brown increases contrast. Green (aka AGX) reduces eye fatigue. There are other colors too, but I don't remember what they do. @@zxedacus00 Oh okay. I thought they mentioned it on the website before. I think the only difference with Northern Lights is that it's a blue mirrored finish with a light brown gradient lens.

I still prefer ray bans ngl no hate to randolph but raybans are easier to get here in england and have more customisation options which is ideal for me and shipping isnt 33£ on rayban its free i still want a pair but I’ll make do with my rayban aviators in gold with blue flash for now

Man I literally bought my first pair of Randolph engineering aviators because of mad men too haha don was just class in appearance and it made me want a pair , I ended up getting the black Friday ones a year back in gold flash with black frames and my God they are amazing haha . I'm here to eyeball that northern lights finish and try to not order a pair haha great video !

Your faceshape is quite similar to mine and these teardrop Concordes are too small for you.
I have the same problem. 58 mm RB Aviators are too small due to the wider cheekbones...so bought the 62 mm and theyre the opposite...huge. 😢

Please don't get me wrong, it's not a bad fit at all but could be a bit wider.
The ideal fit is when the edges of the frame/lenses are in level with the widest part of the face (not the eyes).
It can be quite challenging sometimes to find the right size.
How do these compare to Maui Jim aviators?
I haven't tried that specific model from Maui Jim. The models I've tried from them have all been excellent, though, so I assume they're more of the same. My personal take is that Randolph seems better. But I would need to see the MJs up close to compare.

Oh and I can say all my ray bans are still in tip top shape. BUT I haven't put them to the test..like I haven't drove a car over them yet. So....I don't know yet how good they are. You might be laughing but I'd love to be one of those people that just rips iPhones and sunglasses to shreds on my channel...and gets paid enough to buy 10 more.

I have a soft spot for AO's. Mad men wore them in madmen as they came out in 1958 when Randolph started in 1978. So to use an American saying: Go Fucking Figure!!!!
I know that's what Don Draper was supposed to be wearing, but Randolph themselves told me which model he wore for the show. Not sure why the show didn't go with AO, but they did take liberties here and there with their wardrobe.

Yeah those are some I have considered. I'm not interested in the fancy high class sunglasses..I'm a Ray Ban Girl. BUT AO is one I have thought about.
As someone who owns two pair of each I have to say that they are similar, but overall Randolph is better in every single way.
@@pistachiosandpopcorn7146 I wouldn't say "fancy high class" more like premium, since their lens have more technology to help you eyes. Also, Ray Ban is owned by Luxottica. A huge company that owns a lot popular glass brands. The quality of Ray Bans does not excuse the price at all. I own about 3 pairs of Ray Bans, btw. After I started to find out more about sunglasses and how Luxottica is trying to monopolize the market and bully small companies into selling their business to them, I stopped buying anything Luxottica.
American Optical is very good, but the quality is not on the same level as Randolph USA. I think AO is a good value for the money, though.
Randolph blows American Optical out of the water, granted you can get a pair of AOs for a 3rd of the price. I own several brands and nothing touches Randolph, the optical quality and build on the frames is honestly incredible.
