- Welcome to Critically Misused, where we discuss potentially misused aspects of Dungeons and Dragons fifth edition. This episode, we will be covering plant creatures you’ve probably never heard about, as suggested by @o0bookwyrmknight0o and Clayton Wilde. Comment below if there is a monster you’d like to see me cover.
Firstly, this title is hilarious to me, and I don’t know why.
Secondly, I wasn’t expecting a video on plants, but it makes sense with the theme of misused and overlooked creatures, so I should really have expected it eventually.
Thirdly, I loved how you included your past experiences/homebrew in this video. It really adds a nice touch to the whole thing.
Overall, great video, possibly my favorite on this channel so far! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
Oh, and while I’m here, could I suggest Yugoloths as a future video idea? I’ve never really seen them used, so I think hearing your opinions on them would be cool!
The good old fashioned Yugoloths. I was wondering how long it would be 'till I got that suggestion. I know what I'm going to say
@@thegayerest Neat! Can’t wait!
3:30 I really like that.
Great video!plant monsters are allways interesting.
Love this. Plant monsters are so fun. Been stewing on an idea for a creeping forest for a while, and this is even more inspiration.
I would love to see you cover grimlocks. Of all the underdark monsters, I feel like the classic morlock/grimlock is always the most interesting to me, and sadly underused. I’d love your take on them
In my setting i have modeled gobbles after plants. They are a moss that grows over decaying matter and grows a goblin as a "spore". enough protein and a hobgoblin, enough spirit/soul and a bugbear.
Cool worldbuilding. Sounds like the Orcs from Warhammer 40k, but they're mostly comedy/cannon fodder and aren't well developed as people
Loved the episode, plants are indeed critically underused and can help build your worlds from the roots up.
Thanks for directin’ me to the spelljammer plants, haven’t gotten my hands on that book yet
At the moment, I would wait or buy used. Let's not support WotC while they destroy the community
@@thegayerest oh absolutely, I’ve browsin’ ebay for used books, but the well is comin’ up pretty dry thus far
@@disgruntledbob2812 It's looking like the OGL 1.0a is staying, so you can buy it new if you need
The Artuks follow Krom and talk like Arnold in my campaign.
Thank you so much, it was a lovely little Christmas present to hear you bring me up in a video 💜
You’re welcome 😊
God I have so many plants in my setting. Like 12% of them are monsters the rest are just Botanical features of the setting. It's exceptionally common to find single flowers that grow to 60ft. tall, and support whole ecosystems.
My only 2 monsters are Mandrakes, which are basically shriekers who have decided that they can't wait for reinforcements, and Wormwood, a species of venomous plant that serves as a very common, very agressive weed.
Nature is so neat
I love the flying blood drinking flowers from third edition
What are they called? I love hearing about 3.5e monsters
@@thegayerest death swarm or bloom, something to that effect
@@thegayerest they where in one of those multiple monster manuals that 3rd had. The skull cover I think.
@@miggypeso909 I'll check it out. Creepy monsters are right up my alley
@@thegayerest Dread Blossoms
Truly underused
I wish they had some higher cr plants in dnd. Like every kind of plant can be dealt with by 3 level 5 adventurers...
They had some really really cool ones in earlier editions like the night twist and I wish they had added them to 5e
Also an optimizer you should know the only reason we use lightning damage is because tempest cleric channel divinity can max it out making it do big numbers
Thunder radiant and force are where it's at for rare resistance and immunities
Thank you for clarifying
Plant monsters are always so cool.
I have been idly fiddling with a concept for a third party setting book set in the modern ages, (probably not gonna do anything with it I just want to have it) and one of the monsters I'm thinking of having is some kind of treant-esc living tree monster that is covered in missing person's posters. my plan for them is that they're physically weaker (or at least smaller) than treants but they have more magical abilities and regrow if slain because they are a sort of Problem Monster as I have dubbed them, they exist because of a issue that if solved will lead to them being dissipated like ghosts with the twist being that they like living and will act to keep the problem (the missing people) present to preserve their existence. I have no idea if this is a good concept or not
It's certainly an effective horror concept. Sounds almost like it could be a cryptid or an urban legend to me. Imagine a running joke in the campaign is that everyone thinks it's real without evidence, only for it to attack the party at the end of the campaign.
Alternatively, you could run it like Gravity Falls or Scooby Doo, where the monster appears to be a dangerous tree creature, but turns out to be some confused wild animal.
Just my two cents. I love the design and would absolutely run it in a modern horror campaign
Love your videos!
Thank you!
This video was fucking great dude
Thank you very much!
Wow!! To many that I did not know !! 😯🌳🪴🌿
Thank you!
