Amazing craftsmanship. I have seen many Matsuura mills in shops that were running non stop production for decades without any problems. I still see some of the old red Matsuura machines around from time to time.
Interesting Japanese style of what we call "hip scraping." Labor-intensive and very satisfying with end result worth the extra effort. Excellent results!!

I still don't understand what the benefit of hand scraping It would have been easier to assemble the machine without this step Does this have anything to do with Flatness Surface ?
Is there any other method for achieving similar mating of surfaces? Let's say you would wire EDM a casting into two pieces, would you still have to scrape to achieve good contact?
Thank you for your comment! Do you mean cutting a casting into two pieces and putting them back? I believe, in that case, we ca have good contact surface. However, if we can have a casting of the whole structure in the first place, we would use it as it is.

If I have understood correctly, wire edm is probably the most accurate cutting method but would one still require to scrape those surfaces - indicating there probably is no better way to mate two surfaces than hand scraping?
@@valkman761 Understood. Unfortunately, we are not sure of that. We do not have an EDM machine in our shop. If someone tries that, it would be very interesting!
@@valkman761 You would still have to scrape. Grinding is more accurate the EDM, and scraping is way more accurate than grinding. The only way that is as good as scraping is a metalized gap filling epoxy between the mating surfaces. This is called "replicating" the surfaces.
i understand scrapping is good but in todays worlds machine manufacturing like doosan and hwatchen only some area they scrabe and most of the area they use profile surface grinding .

Hand scraping is an art for the finest precision machine tools that require mechanical accuracy without compensation.
It's not easy to change geometry of assemblies by scraping especially large one. Respect guys!
