    Janko - so good to see you again and WHAT A CAR! I agree with you on the challenge of demonstrating the true sound through video with this car. I took your advice and installed the Cargraphic valve controller and it makes a HUGE difference with providing that PSE engine sound through the ‘entire’ RPM range, which you cannot appreciate until you hear it live. Now I just need to figure out what exhaust system to add since we have the ability in the US to remove the over the axle particulate filters, which may be enough for me.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  4 роки тому +1

      I think you should keep the OPF and go for a exhaust from Cargraphic if you feel you need to pump up the volume...

    Uhm... interesting, I'll follow the OPF delete approach first as the stock exhaust is not restrictive at all (when valves are open), sure doesn't have that X pipe sound effect , but I think that if an OPF delete is not enough a cargraphicts high flows cats might be a better idea . You have to do another video with the proper tailpipes and a different mic.. the sound from the video doesn't match with your reactions . Thanks for the video

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Oscar, I'm afraid, no video makes the sound justice. Yes I'm looking in to the tailpipes but I kind of liked the ones I fitted.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 роки тому +1

      With Öhlins Racing Road and Track, taking potholes out of the equation, the ride is slightly better. As mentioned in my video, Cargraphic X-pipe does create resonance but in addition, creates a sound your enthusiast's heart will die for.

  • @erikb4084
    @erikb4084 4 роки тому +3

    Congrats! Seems like a nice upgrade for those wanting a more race like sound all the time.
    Now having had my Spyder for 2 weeks I do understand Porsches take on the exhaust, and why PSE is disconnected between (about) 1800-3500 rpm even though it is ”on”. For long trips it would be very tiresome to have that constant high volume.
    And for all those on forums complaining about the car sounding like a vacuum cleaner, come on... It sounds just fine when you give it the beans!
    But, to each their own.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  4 роки тому +2

      Thank you Erik for a perfect contribution to our community. I agree, that's why I recommend first to go with the Cargraphic valve Control unit first. Then you could switch on and off between resonance from 1800-3500.. Thanks for supporting me with your subscription.

    I just installed the Akrapovic Evolution Race Lone (=rear silencer) on my 718 GT4 and the sound is great ! Very good compromise between noise and comfort. I also installed the OPF delete over-axle-pipes but then it was WAY too noisy ! So I get back to the silencer only.

    • @philtechGT3
      @philtechGT3 4 роки тому

      Also, the mounting system of my exhaust (the part that holds the muffler and OPF) is completely different than yours (and also the one from Akrapovic installation manual). Akrapovic says it's like that because my car has the Clubsport package. My mounting system seems to be a lot lighter that the one on your Spyder

    Do you have any suggestions for an exhaust for a 718 Boxster T with an OPF filter and factory PSE?

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  3 роки тому +2

      The CARGRAPHIC sport tailpipes for the Porsche 718 T models replace the factory T-shape connection pipe with a flow optimized X-pipe.
      The better exhaust gas flow has a more supporting effect rather than making a huge difference in sound or performance.
      If you are looking for more sound and performance you should look into Cargraphic exhaust components program:www.cargraphic.de/ihr-fahrzeug/fuer-porsche/fuer-cayman/fuer-718-typ-982/fuer-20l-20l-t/

    Loved the sound of your Spider. I hope you keep her. I’m in the US and have a GT4. It’s a ton of fun, but could use a little help in the exhaust department.
    Problem for me is, in the US our OPF is not monitored. A simple OAP replacement removes a significant dampening source freeing up alit of pent up decibels. So what to do.
    I like the Cargraphic products, but that X-Pipe with an OAP replacement might likely be TOO Loud. Thinking baby steps. Cargraphic OAP replacement. Then maybe their sport or racing exhaust.
    Any thoughts from experience would be appreciated.

    Good video Janko, thanks for discussing the unique aspects of the different types of Cargraphics systems for the 718 4.0L. The Spyder with this system must be pretty awesome! I think you should really try to hold on to the Spyder rather than just going for the new GT3. The 911 GT3 is such a different kind of car to drive & you'll miss the driver engagement factor you're experiencing with the 718 Spyder. Check out EVO magazine's Car of the Year 2015 video done in northern Scotland, which features the GT3RS & the GT4. The inherent differences are explained very well.
    The 911 GT3 is a scary fast car & razor sharp driving dynamics. I'm sure a pro driver can really appreciate how amazing they are, however for a mere mortal like myself I'll stick with the junior, the GT4

    Nice, Janko, well done!! I like that you didn't have to take the bumper off, which I think is required on the 911 for a similar operation. Couple of questions:
    1. Did you try without the damper end-pipes? If so, what did you think?
    2. Do you have drone at 2-3000rpm with this system? If so, does it depend on valve position?
    3. Will you go further and delete the OPF:s? I think they are the main culprits behind the muted sound...
    Oh - and also - you're dead wrong about the 718 2.5 4-cyl sound... In my opinion :D

    • @JankoLind

      Hi Erik,
      1. No not jet, You should never start the engine without mufflers, the mufflers is the last transportation of heat from the car. you might cause the plastic to melt.
      2. Sorry did not understand the question :-(
      3. Not sure, my car sound great at this point and I have not changed any parts that are connected to the ECU wish the OPF in Europe are.

    @bmahoney1568 4 роки тому +2

    I disagree with your opinion about the effects of mods on horsepower. If more air is moved through the engine, yes the fuel injection system will adapt and add more fuel and if the timing is the same or advanced it will produce more power. A free flowing exhaust on a spyder will likely add several hp. But I suspect you would need sports cats and gpf delete pipe with the exhaust to significantly lower the back pressure. And a tune made for the free flowing engine could put this car over 450 or 460hp. Why shouldn’t this 4l with the same bore and stroke as the gt3 not make as much torque as the gt3 but for the high back pressure on the spyder/gt4.

    • @JankoLind
      @JankoLind  4 роки тому +2

      I understand your beautiful contribution to our community, thanks a lot Bmahoney1568. And you are right you will gain HP but over time it will reduce according to the ECU box ability to adjust the output of the engine. I. also agree if modifications is made outside the ECU possibility to compensate more HP will be gained. BUT in general, you will not get much effect out of it. My recommendation is then to re-map the ECU

    • @bmahoney1568
      @bmahoney1568 4 роки тому +1

      Janko Lind do you think the spyder/gt4 engine is going to turn out to be a detuned version of the engine in the gt4rs? While being mechanically the same. I, personally, think that will be the case. I think that may create an aftermarket upgrade path for gt4/spyder owners.
