Janko - so good to see you again and WHAT A CAR! I agree with you on the challenge of demonstrating the true sound through video with this car. I took your advice and installed the Cargraphic valve controller and it makes a HUGE difference with providing that PSE engine sound through the ‘entire’ RPM range, which you cannot appreciate until you hear it live. Now I just need to figure out what exhaust system to add since we have the ability in the US to remove the over the axle particulate filters, which may be enough for me.

Uhm... interesting, I'll follow the OPF delete approach first as the stock exhaust is not restrictive at all (when valves are open), sure doesn't have that X pipe sound effect , but I think that if an OPF delete is not enough a cargraphicts high flows cats might be a better idea . You have to do another video with the proper tailpipes and a different mic.. the sound from the video doesn't match with your reactions . Thanks for the video
Janko Lind if you are at an event close to Stockholm sometime it would be really interesting to listen to the sound with your nice modifications of the exhaust. Right now with my Spyder with PCS at Ring Knutstorp by the way. On the track the car is amazing 😉

Congrats! Seems like a nice upgrade for those wanting a more race like sound all the time. Now having had my Spyder for 2 weeks I do understand Porsches take on the exhaust, and why PSE is disconnected between (about) 1800-3500 rpm even though it is ”on”. For long trips it would be very tiresome to have that constant high volume. And for all those on forums complaining about the car sounding like a vacuum cleaner, come on... It sounds just fine when you give it the beans! But, to each their own.
Thank you Erik for a perfect contribution to our community. I agree, that's why I recommend first to go with the Cargraphic valve Control unit first. Then you could switch on and off between resonance from 1800-3500.. Thanks for supporting me with your subscription.

Loved the sound of your Spider. I hope you keep her. I’m in the US and have a GT4. It’s a ton of fun, but could use a little help in the exhaust department. Problem for me is, in the US our OPF is not monitored. A simple OAP replacement removes a significant dampening source freeing up alit of pent up decibels. So what to do. Good video Janko, thanks for discussing the unique aspects of the different types of Cargraphics systems for the 718 4.0L. The Spyder with this system must be pretty awesome! Hi Janko, the car sounds brilliant. I am receiving delivery of my spyder hopefully in November , what are your thoughts about the jcr exhuast (race pipes). Thanks
Nice, Janko, well done!! I like that you didn't have to take the bumper off, which I think is required on the 911 for a similar operation. Couple of questions: 1. Did you try without the damper end-pipes? If so, what did you think? 2. Do you have drone at 2-3000rpm with this system? If so, does it depend on valve position? 3. Will you go further and delete the OPF:s? I think they are the main culprits behind the muted sound... Oh - and also - you're dead wrong about the 718 2.5 4-cyl sound... In my opinion :D
Hi Erik, 1. No not jet, You should never start the engine without mufflers, the mufflers is the last transportation of heat from the car. you might cause the plastic to melt. 2. Sorry did not understand the question :-( 3. Not sure, my car sound great at this point and I have not changed any parts that are connected to the ECU wish the OPF in Europe are. Oh - and also- I disagree, the sound of the 2.5 liter is great LOL, Like how you finished your comment LOL
Great Video Janko! As you will know from the Spyder forum I recently took delivery of similar Spyder to yours.. I'm thinking of just the Valve control unit, but.. is the touring pack exhaust worth the extra? or would you go straight to valved X-pipe like you have? I have Bose and like to listen to music when I'm not enjoying the twisty stuff..
Hi Scott, In sweden with the roads we have, BOSE is just a waist of money since the Spyder is a loud car. I've not tested the touring version live but in your case I would go for that, since you need to preserve the ability to get a chance to listen to music.
@@JankoLind Hey Janko! Thanks for taking the time to answer my question, much appreciated! I've since decided to try the Exhaust valve controller first and see how it goes.. However I am tempted to do more. Love your videos by the way!!
@@JankoLind if my SA see this back box on my gt4 its end warranty for sure, so evreytime i go there i need to put evreything stock... first world problems
I just installed mine track/competition version and it sound totally different than yours.😭 I didn’t see big difference with stock exhaust. Is that normal ?
Janko Lind is there a sensor down stream of the opf in Europe? If no sensor than no need to change the software, if there is a sensor often times a spacer, like those used for o2 sensors down stream of the cats can suffice.
That is what every owner will say, but the gearing ratios are a joke. It’s the first GT car I’ve ever experienced that I would actually prefer a PDK setup 🤷🏼♂️
I disagree with your opinion about the effects of mods on horsepower. If more air is moved through the engine, yes the fuel injection system will adapt and add more fuel and if the timing is the same or advanced it will produce more power. A free flowing exhaust on a spyder will likely add several hp. But I suspect you would need sports cats and gpf delete pipe with the exhaust to significantly lower the back pressure. And a tune made for the free flowing engine could put this car over 450 or 460hp. Why shouldn’t this 4l with the same bore and stroke as the gt3 not make as much torque as the gt3 but for the high back pressure on the spyder/gt4.
I understand your beautiful contribution to our community, thanks a lot Bmahoney1568. And you are right you will gain HP but over time it will reduce according to the ECU box ability to adjust the output of the engine. I. also agree if modifications is made outside the ECU possibility to compensate more HP will be gained. BUT in general, you will not get much effect out of it. My recommendation is then to re-map the ECU
Janko Lind do you think the spyder/gt4 engine is going to turn out to be a detuned version of the engine in the gt4rs? While being mechanically the same. I, personally, think that will be the case. I think that may create an aftermarket upgrade path for gt4/spyder owners.
The pure joy is contagious. I have the standard valved sports exhaust on my 991.1 - always tempting to upgrade to something more wild. Sounding amazing here.
Hi Janko, first great quality videos you put up here, second i just bought the same exaust but my gt4 is still at the dealer, do you have a video with sound with normal/ beautiful exaust tips? :) Keep up the great service, i just watch your videos and normally i end up with the same upgrade parts, except the exaust tips ahahaha. Thanks for everything
you love Pcars as much as I do... I put a Soul X-pipe with high flow cats on my 991.1 Turbo S and its a symphony of gugles, whirls, clow offs and growls.
Hi Janko, as a future 718 Spyder owner, I am of course extremely interested in the engine sound change possibilities. I even considered buying a used 981 series Spyder just for the sheer enjoyment of a glorious sound... But two big questions remain: is it street legal in the European Union (regulations may not be the same in the United States, for instance)? Does it preserve the Porsche warranty? I suspect both answers would be a big no, wouldn't they?
Sounds different from 981 spyder. This is closer to old GT3 at lower revs. The 981 spyder sounds drier, more metallic, closer to an air cooled. This is the first 718 that I have heard that sounds 1/2 way decent. It took a lot of work to get here but it does sound ok.
@@gsten2116 I do agree the 981 spyder sounds more metallic. I never really thought about it sounding like an air cooled since I don't have too much experience there. But yes, this is hands down the best sounding 718 I've heard. I still prefer the 981 sound but sooo subjective and I haven't heard this one in person either.
Probably for future owners too, as it will have triggered log codes in the ecu. VW Group are very good at detecting when their cars have been modded. They are also expert stealth modders themselves, especially for tdi engines.... BTW I drive a remapped Golf 7.5 R, stage 2, but fully understand the risks vs benefits.
I guess that you haven’t watched any of the Industry pool days at the Nurburgring recently? There are several such videos where they have both the GT4 RS, as well as the 992 GT3 ‘standard’ and touring prototypes testing at the same time. The ‘3’s sound WAY better than the ‘4’s imo. ‘Life’ must begin above 8000 RPM I guess 😉!
Janko Lind Acoustically, it helps of course, but that shriek that occurs above 8000 RPM is still missing, as is the structural rigidity. Then there’s the fiddling around that’s required every time it rains...
Not a fan of how the muflers stick out of the diffuser. To me they look "too try hard" on your very reserved Spyder in all other respects. The pipework is pure joy to my eyes, pity that it is hiden so well underneath the car.
Suspension? OEM and just lowered? Spacers? Your comment about the car adapting and reducing back to OEM spec performance is interesting. That would essentially mean that any aftermarket product you get for your vehicle will not improve performance unless you do adapt the software? I've done lots of bolt on aftermarket upgrades on many many many vehicles and I have noticed ever lasting improvements. Oh man - those silencers look TERRIBLE! I'd just keep the stock exhaust vs having those on there. I agree - the OEM exhaust tips are wrong.
I guess (?) you have 2 videos to view: This old one: ua-cam.com/video/VM_ZJdF6Ps0/v-deo.html And this: ua-cam.com/video/lsFIEPHEfjc/v-deo.html Perhaps you have honoured me with your subscription.

@@JankoLind Haha, why not..so far my goal (dream mostly) is a 718 GTS 4.0 manual, i find this the best everyday and road trips car, standard seats, almost no options, leather interior instead alcantara, even prefer it with no cost option suspension with just 10 mil lowering, I like more ground clearance , GT4/Spyder are too low for me...no track days, just a long trips through the mountains :-)...btw if you change the gear ratios of your spyder with sharkwerks kit it will be even a 991 Speedster killer
@@JankoLind Probably I am one of the first subs....:-) we are all Porsche nerds, btw a friend of mine is waiting the reveal of the 992 GT3 manual and will put an order...do you have internal info when and how (where) the model will be released ?
I really don't get what's so wrong about ordering 718 Spyder with 18-way adaptive seats? All this talking about "GT car" or "non GT car" is useless... This is actually perfect car to use on road trips and long drives on B roads - best looking roadster on sale today with manual and N/A engine + really usable storage space. On the other hand tracking this car for real is strange - You can't put roll cage, it's roadster but with these uncomfortable 918 style buckets You can't get seat heating. I my opinion this car is great grand tourer, much better than track car.
Janko, the exhaust is one thing. The “elephant in the room” is the Gear Ratios. How can you condone this behavior by Porsche?! It’s so lame. I watched your earlier video- shifting to 1st is not really viable. Any way you look at it, using 2 gears between 0-140kph is RIDICULOUS
@@JankoLind Regardless of whether or not you have a problem with it, the "world" has a problem with it! Prueigner(sp?) admitted it in a review published in an Australian magazine. This will forever depress values and demand. And without the ability to test drive, I'm not going ahead with my order. Porsche cannot charge this kind of money with a flawed design. 50% of the gears are useless! On track and on street. Come on!
It’s the Gearing, not the exhaust. THAT’S the problem! Whether on track or on street, you have 2 gears to drive from 0-140kph. That’s a JOKE. Shame on Porsche.

Hey Janko - how does Porsche feel about all the mods with regard to the manufacturers warranty ?
Don't know Ziggy ;-)

I just installed mine track/competition version and it sound totally different than yours.😭
I didn’t see big difference with stock exhaust.
Is that normal ?
No
Okay I saw my exhaust is slightly different than yours they sent me compétition one and yours is racing.
That’s a good sounding exhaust. I have a fabspeed on my X51 2006 c2S and I could never go back to stock

Oh yes I have one question, if opf is removed does software need to be done?
No, but to get the full hp benefit software will be necessary
In Europe, the OPF is an active filter and you need to modify the software.
Janko Lind is there a sensor down stream of the opf in Europe? If no sensor than no need to change the software, if there is a sensor often times a spacer, like those used for o2 sensors down stream of the cats can suffice.
Hi Janko!
I just received my 718 GT4!
I really think that it needs an exhaust. What do you think of the akrapovic exhaust?
Don't know, I have not talked to them in this matter. I did talk to them before they decided to make an exhaust but not after.
MT in the 992 GT3 alone will be good reason to get out of the Spyders ridiculously long gearing.
I do not have any problem with the gearing smiles 11.
That is what every owner will say, but the gearing ratios are a joke. It’s the first GT car I’ve ever experienced that I would actually prefer a PDK setup 🤷🏼♂️
Your Porsche Warranty Janko ?
I'm OK Roger...
I knew you’d come to your senses and keep the Spyder! How are you liking the shifting of gears?
Hi Lui, I have no problem with the shifting. It is not fare criticism the 718 Spyder/GT4 gets.
Janko Lind to drive around in open country with your completed Spyder must be a joy...njut av!
Love it..Congrats!!

The pure joy is contagious. I have the standard valved sports exhaust on my 991.1 - always tempting to upgrade to something more wild. Sounding amazing here.
You should try it, remember, you could always go back to stock. Perhaps you have honoured me with your subscription?
Hi Janko, first great quality videos you put up here, second i just bought the same exaust but my gt4 is still at the dealer, do you have a video with sound with normal/ beautiful exaust tips? :)
Keep up the great service, i just watch your videos and normally i end up with the same upgrade parts, except the exaust tips ahahaha.
Thanks for everything
I have not recorded or changed my end muffler jet. If I do you will know.
you love Pcars as much as I do... I put a Soul X-pipe with high flow cats on my 991.1 Turbo S and its a symphony of gugles, whirls, clow offs and growls.
Congratulations to your 991.1 Turbo S, I can imagine how loud your car is :-)
@@JankoLind not loud... its how it should have been.. it has meat
Are you selling this car already? Saw it for sale on FB. May I ask why? Keep up the good work!
IF I'm buying a 992 GT3 I need the founding.
Excellent reason😊
Hi Janko, as a future 718 Spyder owner, I am of course extremely interested in the engine sound change possibilities. I even considered buying a used 981 series Spyder just for the sheer enjoyment of a glorious sound... But two big questions remain: is it street legal in the European Union (regulations may not be the same in the United States, for instance)? Does it preserve the Porsche warranty? I suspect both answers would be a big no, wouldn't they?
Depends on where you live in Europe and I recommend you talk to your local dealer regarding warranty.
Does the exaust works on spyder 981 also ??
No
The stock sound on 981 Spyder is sensational why would you need it?
@@tomcraig8027 agreed. this makes it sound almost as good as the 981 stock.
Being a Cargraphic customer I can tell this is a good upgrade! Does it break the official Porsche warranty though?
Shure it does. More than that..
You have to check with your local dealer.
Sounds awesome - reminds me of 991.2 gt3! Well done on spec and love the enthusiasm and joy
It sure is a great car to drive and experience. If you are not already, please subscribe to my channel.
Very important. Needs the car graphic valve control installed first. In other words the valves can then open from start rather than 4.5/5k revs.
Could you please explain why the gts 2,5 is so much better then the gts 4,0?
YES, in a upcoming video that I hope I will be able to make.
Does anyone know how much these units are being sold for? Can’t see any pricing info on the cargraphic website.

Janko Lind awesome. Thank you 🙏
I guess that you haven’t watched any of the Industry pool days at the Nurburgring recently? There are several such videos where they have both the GT4 RS, as well as the 992 GT3 ‘standard’ and touring prototypes testing at the same time. The ‘3’s sound WAY better than the ‘4’s imo. ‘Life’ must begin above 8000 RPM I guess 😉!
Hmmm, perhaps life starts without a roof???
Janko Lind Acoustically, it helps of course, but that shriek that occurs above 8000 RPM is still missing, as is the structural rigidity. Then there’s the fiddling around that’s required every time it rains...

Not a fan of how the muflers stick out of the diffuser. To me they look "too try hard" on your very reserved Spyder in all other respects. The pipework is pure joy to my eyes, pity that it is hiden so well underneath the car.
The DB-killer muffler I've installed looks better live. Never the less, I will return to this issue.
Janko those downward pipes are horrible! 😜😂
That's what everybody keeps telling me.

Okej då Janko. Egentligen har jag lagt porschedrömmarna på hyllan. Iaf tills jag blir cryptomiljonär 😉 Då jävlar blir det en 997 GT3.
I would keep it. I've cancelled my GT4 order as my Spyder is sooo good. The GT4 gives me nothing extra and looses the open top driving.
I agree Richard.

Perhaps but it is true.
Hi Fluterra, I have no problem with the gearing...
Come on!
You just have to learn to drive using 1st gear again. You get used to it very quickly. Not a problem.
Shifting is definitely not a problem in practice, it's just because everything else is so good people like to pick on this.
Not sure if it is your recording or the dreaded particulate filters, but the 991 GT3 sounds incredibly better..

Keep it the 911 are too big!
Hmmm that might happened. I'm so much back and forth in this question.
Hate those exhausts. 🤮 good sound though.
It’s the Gearing, not the exhaust. THAT’S the problem! Whether on track or on street, you have 2 gears to drive from 0-140kph. That’s a JOKE. Shame on Porsche.
Hi Fluterra, I have no problem with the gearing...
