Trump's paid for justices are currently trying to figure out how to give trump absolute immunity but not extend that to a democratic POTUS.
Actually not true. They are trying to define immunity when acting as president and no immunity when not acting as president. And then trying to define where inside that line being a presidential candidate lies. It is fascinating.

Checks and balances doesn't work if the other pillars of government don't do their part. It doesn't matter how conservative they are or who their financial backers are, SCOTUS shouldn't give away their power and agree to this, otherwise they diminish their own roles.

This matter is settled law throughout the civilized world. An officer of government, acting "In the name of" his/her ministry, is indemnified from personal prosecution. If that person is acting in his/her own interests they are personally subject to the law. This is not in any way novel. - If the SCOTUS finds otherwise, the dissenting Judges, and indeed all other Judges are ethically bound to resign, as the law has become a political tool. Its an election year; this matter should be put to the people.

The SCOTUS had repeatedly declared the Sovereign is immune from taxation. States are forbidden from taxing federal assets oe purchases.
The Constitution 'guarantees' a form of a 'Republican' government [where Citizens are Sovereign] and "to protect them from invasion.". Art 4, section 4. An income tax on Sovereign Citizens is unconstitutional. A government that allows invasion is a coup.
