It's not the same setup at all, but you can already find some answers out there on the internet, starting with the Sound On Sound article about the Justin Timberlake - Say Something video we were honored to be part of. For this shot, there are about 6/7 lav mics (Maggie, the guitar, the piano, some of the fans who sang really well), a stereo boom mic and a bunch of stereo ambient mics hidden in the different areas of the path Maggie follows. I don't know if this is of any help for you? Afterwards, we mix it all in the studio. The guitar is recorded with one of the lav mics hidden inside so it remains almost invisible. It has a much more natural sound than a pickup. You can see how we put it in the SoS/JT article too.
Such a simple box of story: She sings about her problem. It's dark and she's alone. Then the lights come up, her friends are all around her and she's happy. It's embarrassing, but I tear up every time I watch this.
I heard the regular version on the radio and I teared up in my car. I've listened to so many songs. First one that caused this reaction and this version even more.
This seriously has to be one of my favorite performance/music videos ever. The cinematography, the energy, everything. It had me smiling and laughing like I was there. Thank you for the continued inspiration, Maggie.
This video reminded me of a woman’s journey through life, how so many people become like family, you make such meaningful connections and friendships and yet, in quiet moments with yourself it is only your own journey of growth that accompanies you; pains and joys and loves and losses. How we return when we are alone to our own hearts, be they heavy or light. And how people can light us up and carry us, but at the end of the day, it is us and our journey alone. Beautiful, gave me all the feels. I hope this description made sense.
Honestly!! I was at her gig the other night and she took a moment to thank everyone for "taking care" of her songs. She seemed genuinely overwhelmed with happiness and gratitude
Just me, sitting listening and watching this while i work from home in month 8 of the pandemic, crying because i miss live music and screaming songs like this at the top of my lungs with friends and strangers... damn.
I think the video reminds us that we all are going through something that makes us lonely or sad. But seeing other people appear singing together when the lights come on tells us that we're not alone going through whatever it is each of us are going through. Each of us feel we're someone in the background singing along in this video.
Her eyes, especially at 2:03, have the same color as the most beautiful ocean you always dream of going to at some paradise island with white sand beaches.
Yeah- Pharrell did not find this girl. He just happened to be critiquing at NYU when she was there. She has given several interviews where she states that she didn't know him and does not. If anything, Maggie found Pharrell- lol
Brackio Dozens ok relax. He came to her class. She is still amazing and would have got their on her own. All I’m saying is his name helped with the extreme media attention.
Just went through a break up after being in a relationship for 5 years. It’s been a few months so emotionally I was through the rough part, but man, this brought the waterfalls hard. It reminded me of what amazing friends and family I have who love and support me no matter what. Such a beautiful song and performance. Thanks Maggie, for hitting me right in the feels, in the best way.
Fifafan117 it’s such a cliche but you really gotta find yourself again after being with someone for such a long time. Towards the end of the relationship, one of my closest friends told me that I wasn’t the same happy, goofy person that he’s always known. After a couple months of really trying to figure out who I was before the relationship I met up with him again. Unprompted he told me “it’s glad to see you’re back to your old self :)” it sure does suck but you’ll find yourself again and you’ll be a better more complete person when you find that person who loves you for all the things that the other person didn’t.
@@burgbuilds yeah I was in the same boat everyone in my family always told me I seemed so upset/angry always now...how are you doing now? Like in terms of moving forward/happiness after the breakup? Right now I'm still struggling a bit but I think getting better
Fifafan117 going on 6 months since the breakup, I’d say I’m happier now than I’ve ever been. After a. Few months I decided to get back out there and try and meet somebody new, that is a huge help. Most importantly though I’ve been focusing on myself a ton especially paying close attention to that negative voice in my head and just realizing that you’re inner thoughts are normally just neurotic self depreciation, (at least in my case) You have to treat those thoughts like a crazy roommate and really think intentionally about what you want for yourself. I don’t really read much but I listened to ‘The Untethered Soul’ audio book. It’s a little hippy dippy but it’s pretty interesting and helped me out a lot. That and ‘Get Your Shit Together’ is another good book. Rooting for you Fifafan117, I know you’ll make it through.
@@burgbuilds wow that awesome and definitely makes me feel better that hopefully one day I can be happier without her, part of me thinks it was for the best we broke up but yeah it still sucks! But I'll try my best to stay strong thank you for responding appreciate it alot
I was about to cry when she looks the guitarist at the end. Maggie is really magic, and good for bringing light on this Earth, the time needs and its now coming. Gratitude.
Your joy for the art you're producing is infectious and this is certainly a wonderful representation of that. Even now, I feel rewarded with each listen and it's felt that way since The Echo. I appreciate you and your craftsmanship. Thank you.

Found this video a few months into quarantine 2020 and just immediately cried during the first chorus. I was missing so many important people from my life that I hadn't seen in what felt like an eternity. It somehow immediately felt like I was right there in the middle of this and it was such a moving moment in time for me. Everytime I watch this again I'm filled with that appreciation for everyone in my life and what they mean to me. I'll never forget it. Thank you for this.
