Hey Priscilla, it's perfectly ok not to be happy sometimes/a lot of the time especially considering external circumstances most of which we have absolutely no control over anyway. People often talk about happiness like it's some sort of "thing" we can achieve which is total bs. It's a temporary state of being at best. Even when life is going great/almost "perfect" even, life will throw you a curveball/challenge that will test how "happy" you are. You have every right to feel shit sometimes, everyone does. Why should we pretend to be happy anyway, just to make other people not worry about us? Try not to pretend you are doing ok when maybe you aren't, true friends and family should stick by you through anything, and if some don't there are people out there who will help you without judgement, you just have to ask for help and it will find you.

I feel like crying whenever that part come, like so many people told me that i should be very happy now, despite me feeling zero happiness, and yet i force my smile and act like i am happy cause that's what everyone told me to.

Hey Priscilla, it's perfectly ok not to be happy sometimes/a lot of the time especially considering external circumstances most of which we have absolutely no control over anyway. People often talk about happiness like it's some sort of "thing" we can achieve which is total bs. It's a temporary state of being at best. Even when life is going great/almost "perfect" even, life will throw you a curveball/challenge that will test how "happy" you are. You have every right to feel shit sometimes, everyone does. Why should we pretend to be happy anyway, just to make other people not worry about us? Try not to pretend you are doing ok when maybe you aren't, true friends and family should stick by you through anything, and if some don't there are people out there who will help you without judgement, you just have to ask for help and it will find you.

I feel you. I actually do that, umm my family has a very big reputation, all the rich and respected blah blah ( not trying to brag or anything) but at the end of the day I'm always sad or upset I'm not happy and everyone keeps telling me that I have a perfect life and you should be so happy and I have to plaster a fake smile on my face and fake being happy when actually I'm not, when I'm actually tearing apart inside and I've realise that it's completely OK to not be OK at times that's normal and that's what makes us basically us. So don't be afraid to let ur emotions out and don't keep them buried inside just cuz people tell u to. Be yourself! ❤️

This was my top played song on Spotify this year. It's my dating anthem. I can be socially awkward, anxious and pessimistic about dating, so it is HARD, but this song is therapeutic: if they keep reaching out, then I'll keep coming back - but if they're gone for good, then I'm okay with that. I want what wants me and I don't want what doesn't want me.
I also relate to "everyone around me saying 'you should be so happy now'" - winning someone over and reciprocally being won over feels joyous at first, but then keeping things steady is a whole other frustrating and anxiety-provoking battle.

My beautiful doggie, Sugar passed recently. Maggie Rogers has helped me so much. So beautiful. I had never heard of Dog Years and it randomly played as I was painting the night after my pup passed. I bike everywhere in the midwest snow. Maggie Rogers is wonderful for these rides.

I've been looking for a comment to express the relationship I have with this song. It was the song I was listening to on my way to the suicide attempt that would bring me closer to death than anything ever has. I'm sort of an oldster now (mid 40s). I've been WAITING for almost two decades for someone to appear that sounded like this again. I heard her for the first time on SNL this evening. She's got a 80s / 90s vibe with such an honest, flowing, unprocessed voice. Reminds me of the first time I heard Dolores O'Riordan back in college... different sound, but has that same fresh/ingénue quality that's hard to describe.
