- I'm John from Backyard Maine.Today we'll use the John Deere Snowblower attachment on the 1025r to clean up 6 inches of heavy wet snow. Let's get the John Deere 1025r with the 47 inch front mount snowblower and get busy. This set up with the snowblower on the front and a 60 inch plow blade on the back is (in my opinion) the perfect setup for snow removal. We also have a special guest to make her first appearance on the channel.
Equipment used:
John Deere 1025r subcompact tractor

Fellow Mainer here! Just picked up a Kubota bx1880 with the snowblower attachment. Didn’t think about the back blade. I’ll be calling about one tomorrow!
My mother was from Maine Weld, then Belgrade. I spent a lot of time on Grandmother's Belgrade farm. I am glad to find another way to connect to my Maine roots. I have not been there in decades and I miss it greatly. Your Lady is lovely. I would welcome her in more videos.. God bless you all.
We bought some land in the Belgrade lakes area last year. It's in the town of Chesterville where we're planning to build a camp. It is a beautiful state and we're happy here but the winters are a bit long. I'm glad you stopped by and I hope to hear from you again. Thanks for watching and god bless. Oh, I think you will see my wife in future videos as well..
@@BackyardMaine I recommend Lisette's " One Woman's Wilderness" Channel for camp and cooking ideas. Lisette lives alone in a cabin in northern Ontario. Her Cabin and even her outhouse are works of art. She lives off the grid with very little support. I do not know the Lakes area, As a kid we just passed through it on our way to Weld, where my mother and father had their separate properties. As I recall it is beautiful country. I hope you and your lovely wife make many great memories in your new place. Maine can be a magical place if you let it. Many thanks for sharing some of the old Maine magic with your viewers. I do not drive, so Maine is out my reach now.

Great video I bought 2 of the same Linear actuator kits for the spout 1 for my 2032r and the other for a friends 1025r they work great gave a good day be safe.
Nice 👍
Like you said she did a great job for her first time 👍🏻, it was a beautiful day. Thanks for sharing John and have a great week 🙂🙋🏼♂️👍🏻
Thanks for your support Luc! She had fun and did a great job. 😎 Enjoy the rest of your weekend and have a great week ahead.. 🚜
Kate looks like a pro on the tractor. We had about 8-10 in western Mass. That back blade is definitely useful.
Oh wow! Thanks more than we had.. The back blade it a great helper when combined with the blower. Thanks for your comment Beth! Enjoy the rest of your Sunday. 🚜 👍
We got about a foot, live in NH near Piermont Heights! Took me about 15 minutes to do our driveway with the loader on my new tractor. Gonna love having one this summer!
Wow, that a pretty good amount of snow. Yes a loader is going to be nice. Glad your setup is working well for you. NH is a beautiful state. Thanks for watching! 👍
Awwwe 😍 The Boss, miss you Kate, love Ate Jo, and I really miss the snow and my tractor too
Thanks Jo. She had fun driving it for the first time. Hope all is well with you and Dave. ❤️
That a nice snow eating machine, used to live in Vermont and wish I had one like that. Now live in Virginia no snow to deal with here, thank god I dont miss it!
I can from Vermont as well. I live in southern Maine now and for the past 30 years. I love Virginia too, beautiful country.
15 in in Westfjords Iceland in Feb love your setup
That’s a lot of snow. I hope it warming up a bit now. Thanks for watching.
Love it. My very first time on my 1025R this year, took me 5 hrs to clean snow from 80 ft driveway.
That is awesome! You will be a pro in no time. She actually enjoyed driving the tractor. Now she is going to want to till the garden in the spring.. 🤔 Thanks for watching!
5 hours? You must not have the snowblower attachment.
My 1st experience with my tractor, just using the bucket. Had to become familiar with the machine. Oh and i forgot about the float function the 1st outing. The second time was much faster when you use the float function.
@@holg3070 When I first got mine I was blowing snow and wondered why it wouldn't steer.. That's when I noticed the front tires weren't touching the ground. It gets easy fast though..
I have the same set up , brand new and with wet snow ,the shute plugged constantly.
I don’t have that problem unless it’s slush. Is your impeller metal or plastic? Mine is metal. I think the blower could be designed better though. Mine vibrates like crazy. So much so I brought it in to the dealer to see if they could figure out why. They couldn’t so I just deal with it. I think the orange blower is a better design but we stuck without charging machines.
I have that exact same model and also a cab and snowblower but I have to do half mile to 3 quarters miles of reconstituted black top works really well.
They are a nice little tractor
Hello - I am looking at this model now. I live in upper MI where storms can dump 2 feet at a time. I also have reconstituted drive. In your experience do you see me having any issues with this model? I too am looking at 3/4 mile. Thank you!!
I’m from Haileybury Ontario Canada 🇨🇦 I clean my driveway with craftman riding lawnmower with a snowblower had it since 2006 it’s 16.5 Honda engine
I'm sure you get plenty of snow and cold in Ontario.. I was actually looking for a blower to connect to my rider but the only options were used and hard to find. Then I found this tractor for a great deal used with just 5 hours on the meter. Thanks for watching Gerald!
You definitely married UP! A nice house. Nice big property. A nice John Deere. Lol. You’re very blessed.
You got that right!
I like your channel, saw another video on the "blizzard", with the car stuck at the front of your driveway, and liked that one and subscribed, now this one is even better. I'm on the Eastern side of Lake Winnie so am somewhat near to your location. Smart man also....she wants to try driving it...then....Happy Wife, Happy Life.
Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying the videos Andy. Kate really enjoyed getting on the tractor and then she helped me with the cameras while I cleared the neighbors driveway. I put that video up Saturday... You are right about the happy wife thing 👍 I spend a week at a rented camp once on Moultonborough Neck which is probably pretty close to where you're located. Thanks again for your support!
She wanted to have fun also. Never a bad day sitting on a Deere.
Yes, for sure.. After my last video she figured out that it was actually fun. 😎 Thanks for watching Joe.
Love your videos, John, and it’s nice to see Kate in this one!
Thank you! Kate had fun on the tractor. Thanks for you kind comment! 👍
Only got about 4 inches of light fluffy stuff in Saint John, NB. The 1025R with the rear blower arrived while it was snowing. I used it Saturday morning. It worked good, but with light snow, it should. I wish I has it a month ago when we got 18” plus drifts. I have a feeling I’ll have to wait next winter for a real test. They’re teasing us with 4” tomorrow night.
I drove through NB on I-80 many years ago. Some years we get a lot of snow here in March not sure about NB. You’re going to love the 1025r. It’s an awesome machine. Thanks for watching.
@@BackyardMaine Depends where, like you, we have a mix of coastal and inland. Northern NB gets more than we do along the Bay of Fundy. My inlaws live in Edmunston (across the river from Madawaska, ME, their winter starts a month before us and ends a month after.
@@grattonland Sorry Mark I was thinking you were in Nebraska which used to be NB but now it's NE. We're supposed to get a couple of inches tonight and right now it looks like a rain snow mix over the weekend. Enjoy that new tractor.
How's she goin'? We got the same storm as you folks, about 6 inches all told. Your wife is going to be a good operator. You'll be needing 2 tractors now!!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
We’re do fine Dave thank you. Thanks for supporting the channel. Have a great week. The ice on the pond will be melting before long.
Oakfilde, ME We are getting some snow now , but we are only supposed to get 1 to 2 inches. It's a good thing since my snow blower and yard tractor are down.
Ahh Oakfield. You're way up state. I'll bet you get a lot of snow there. I'm in Buxton down near the Portland area. Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching! 👍
Our biggest snow in the mountains of north carolina this year was about 11 inches. I have a 3/4 mile long 12 foot wide driveway that is incredibly steep. I used my kioti cx2510 with the back blade to get most of the snow off of the driveway but our cars still had trouble and we ended up parking 3 of them at the bottom of the road and using one of our old subarus with snow chains as a taxi to the nice cars.
Wow, isn’t that a lot of snow for you guys? It been a strange winter for weather this year. Sounds like you have a great tractor for the job though. A snowblower probably doesn’t make sense in NC. Thank for your comment and for watching. 🚜
@@BackyardMaine no we routinely have 2 12 inch snows a year with a bad year being 4-5 6 inch storms. We are just glad we didn't get the 27 inches that were forecast!
@@willparrish7646 I guess being in the mountains you get a lot more snow than I thought. I've only been to Raleigh and east. Spring is right around the corner now.
I bought a 2032r with a blower this last summer and I couldn't wait to get pounded with snow this winter annnd the most snow I've seen at once this year was about 2.5" 😏 I'm in NW IL... 1 mile from the WI border
Isn’t that the way it goes sometimes. We still have March left so who knows. We’re having a strange winter here in Maine as well. That’s an awesome tractor though. Congratulations! Thanks for watching.
We got 6ft in Hamilton ON in 2023 over a 36hr storm. Brutal! Buffalo NY got EIGHT FEET!
I cannot imagine. I’ve seen 4 feet with 6 foot drifts once but 6 to 8 feet. Wow
That was a nice relaxing video, thanks.
Thank you.
Your wife is very attractive and she knows how to run a deere. My wife won't come within 50 feet of my tractor. Good for her.
It was her first time in the tractor seat. I gave her a quick lesson off camera. She actually enjoyed trying it out plus she helped me with cameras after she was done. She’s a good sport. Thanks for watching! 👍
Hey I know that pretty lady! Great job Kate!
Thank you Sue. Kate had some fun too... Thanks for your support! 👍
Keewatin Minnesota. Up north we got like 18 inches on day. It's been blizzard after blizzard this year. Snow up to mu windows of my first floor
Wow.. We had a year like that 4 or 5 years back. I hope you have a tractor or a plow to help you move all that snow. Thanks for watching.

Thanks 👍 We had a lot of ice a few weeks ago but then we got a bunch of warm weather and rain. It's been an odd winter. Thanks for watching!
Hi John, nice video i have been using a JD loaner machine the same setup but it has the Curtis cab and I am sure spoiled with that…Nice to see your wife learning the machine operations…God Bless…Chief{NYS/ADK}
That sounds awesome. I can’t get a cab right now because with a cab it won’t fit through the garage door. Maybe someday. I’m originally from southern Vt. I bought the tractor used from a guy in upstate NY. Thanks for watching!
Oh and god bless.
Your are right on the door height, you need at the least 7’ for the cab clearance… We are located in the Adirondacks, and the snow hasn’t stopped yet… Chief{NYS/ADK}
@@chiefmik9108 I think you're in the snow belt up there in the ADK. Spring is right around the corner though. Have a great week Chief!
Wet snow is the worst. We are in NW PA in the lake effect snow belt. Getting a few feet of snow is nothing new. A couple years ago we got 5 1/2 feet in one day.
I have some friends in north west NY and they get buried.
@@BackyardMaine Oh ya, Lake Erie does know how to make snow fast. When the storms come across the lake that isn't frozen it gets crazy. The cool thing is when neighbors start cleaning each other out. Everyone has their job to do. I have a plow truck. Kids and young ones are on shovel and snowblower duty. Mrs. Peterson is and the ladies keeps us stuffed with cookies coffee and hot chocolate. We make a party out of it.
@@Buddha-of8fk That's awesome. I take care of my driveway and the neighbor whose husband passed away. Occasionally I will help out someone else as well. I'm glad to hear people in your community are still taking care of each other. It's becoming rare these days.
@@BackyardMaine When the Lake dumps feet it's becomes dangerous. We have to make sure everyone is safe. It's a small town way of life. We have a few older folks that just can't do the mowing and snow removal. They know we got their backs. We do love our little town.
@@Buddha-of8fk That's great!
I'm up further north of you in Washburn. I believe one of our storms was 15". Someday I'd love to upgrade my small JD to one like your with a cab. Once snow hits here it stays until first to second week of April. Snowmobiling season is at its high peek right now with around 3 ft of snow in the fields.
Yup I know people who travel north to find great snowmobile trails all through March. We had a week of warm weather and rain which melted everything. We have another six inches on the ground now but there’s more rain in the forecast. Thanks for watching. I’ll have another one up soon. 👍
@@BackyardMaine I can see the main sled trail from my house and it's a constant relaxing sounds of snowmobiles going by. We missed the last storm you guys received. We have wet heavy 3-5 coming Sunday. Not looking forward to that. I snowblow a few yards in my block. Keep the videos coming!!
@@ChiefWiggim Sounds like a nice place to be Sir... We're going to get rain this weekend. Spring is right around the corner. 👍
\ John love watching your videos can’t wait for you to start your project one thing.... FYI it worked on the railroad for 32 years as a conductor always touching cold steel with gloves on or with gloves off..... A little bit at a time in a little bit of time got frostbite in my fingers from not having gloves on and also from wet boots with no rubbers....Am a little older than you,,,,I can be outside middle of winter and a short sleeve shirt!!!!!!!!!!!but I gotta have gloves on,,,,,you don’t have gloves on when you’re running the tractor... down in Connecticut near Hartford 5 inches of snow remember gloves they’re cheap hands aren’t take care of junk man do
Thank you for the kind comments and the great advice. I was running the cameras and kept taking my gloves off. They were on the tractor. The weather warmed up quickly and with the extra clothes I was getting warm. But you're right, I should have put the gloves back on. Thanks for watching Sam! 👍
hello from Detroit, MI. we got 48" in one night but it wasn't in 2021 it was in 1978

Wow, way up north! I'll bet you get a pile of snow... Thanks for watching Ryan! 👍
So when the blower is in float there are no issues with steering or turning the tractor? Only when its not on float? I herd its hard to steer with blower on the front
If you press all the way down on the stick the blower will go low enough to lift the front wheels right off the ground. In float the blower sits on the ground with its own weight and the tractors steers just fine. The only time I have run into a problem with steering is when the ground isn't frozen and I run the blower through the lawn to make a path to the driveway. The shoes will sit so low in the grass or sod that it won't steer. I will just nudge the stick up a little in that situation.
southern Maine here, we got about 7" that storm.
Pretty close to what we had. Raining now. Maybe the end of snow blowing for the season. I still have one more to get up to UA-cam. Thanks for watching.

Hello from Nova Scotia, where our weather is very similar to yours. The JD 1025R is on my radar for snow removal, and your videos are very quickly helping me to decide. If I may ask, what brand is your rear blade? Thanks for your videos!
Hello Richard, The rear blade is a 60 inch King Kutter. I bought it online from Blain's Farm and Fleet. I have had this tractor since 2018 and I love it. Thanks for watching!
Monmouth Maine here. I run a 1025R as well. Have you had to adjust tension on your blower chain yet? Mine is being very stubborn.
Hi Steve.. I bought a Golden Retriever from a breeder in Monmouth about 15 years ago. I have adjust the tension once so far but I think it's good right now. Thanks for watching! 👍

Hello - live in Upper Mi. Lots of snow. Some very wet and heavy with up yo 12 - 24 at a shot. I am thinking of purchasing this model. Thoughts? Any issues?
I absolutely love the tractor. I have a loader and a tiller so I use it all year. The only complaint I have it the blower, while is does work fine it vibrated and rattles like crazy. I took it to the dealer and they spent several hours trying to find the issue and $500 later they said they can't figure it out. I think the blower on the same size Kubota has a better design. It doesn't vibrate and it blows snow farther. I also like that the Kubota used the skid steer quick connect for the front end loader. It opens you up to a lot more compatible attachments. The tractor is awesome but if I were starting over I might consider an orange tractor.
@@BackyardMaine Thanks so much for the response! I will check out the Kubota's also based on your comments. I have a friend who has one with the blower behind, but it is a 2015 model and I am sure there have been updates since that time! What size blower do you have on the 1025R? It appears to be a 54"? I have been told by the dealer that it throws snow better than their 47"?
Ether way I'm sure you're going to be happy. Yes, Kubota has a new line of tractors, I think the LX series? I have the 47" blower on mine. I bought the tractor and blower used on craigslist back in 2018. It was a 10 hour drive to pick it up but I got an incredible deal. $10k for a 3 year old tractor with five hours on it. I bought the loader a few years later. Good luck. @@winter-qd4yw

Wow!! You have had a much bigger storm than we've had here in Maine. Thanks for watching and interacting with my content Chris. Much appreciated. 👍
I got a 54in blower on the front of my 1025r and sold my old 93-420 with a 47in closer and I wish I kept the 47in and just put that on the 1025r my biggest complaint with the new blower is the shoot is PLASTIC!!! How can a blower cost $3000 and have plastic?!?! The 47in didn't have PLASTIC and it would throw the snow a quarter mile!! The new blower about 12 foot! Makes no sense?!?!
I hear you. I think the new 47 inch blowers also have plastic impellers. The one I have has a metal one. I’ve heard a lot of similar complaints about them. I’m not sure what the engineers were thinking. Thanks for watching Adam.
Sorry, but the Kubota sends its snow much further.
