Both birds are beautiful. You're a great teacher. Your husband has hidden talents. I hope you both had fun doing this challenging first project. I'm looking forward to the brush control video. 😊
Wow, painting under scrutiny is not easy, overcoming the fear of the clean page can be daunting. So Dom's painting was bravely approached. A piece he can be proud of. I would love to see more of his creative journey.
If I may say so I prefer Don's bolder colours annd harder lines, but that's personal preference of course. I don't think watercolour always has to be soft to be beautiful. It's nice to see different styles😊.
Oh to say this video was beyond informative is an UNDERSTATEMENT! This video has taught me MORE in 15mins than Ive achieved in 15 years. “Standing clap ovation” thank you Louise & Dom on this one. Thank you so much for sharing this.
First, let me say that your hair looks FABULOUS!! Second, this video showcases exactly why you are such a great instructor! I also appreciate Dom's efforts, (which are amazing for a first wc painting). This video not only helps you learn how to be a better teacher, it helps your students relate and identify some of the frustrating things about learning wc . Excellent video and can't wait for the ones that this one generates!! Thank you.
Ohh Louise this was a huge help & eye opener for me personally! This was a wonderful valuable informational video to help me with my brush control. While watching both you & Dom painting, I realized why some of my painting results look they way they do & why I was struggling with some things in my paintings. While I am no longer a beginner like Dom, I find that I do some things still like him when painting certain parts like the tail feathers. I’ve been painting for 4 years now and I am definitely in need of more videos of brush control. I never thought of brush control being a factor like water control. Dom did a wonderful job with painting the fairy wren & I don’t think I could have picked out which one he did if I had to choose before watching the video. Thanks so much for sharing this video of both of you painting this fairy wren. I really appreciate your explanation & showing how brush control matters equally with water control. I am super excited to see your future videos on this subject. Thanks again & have a lovely weekend! 💕😘
I look forward to your video on holding the brush under various circumstances. As a self-learner that's a skill I know I'm lacking. Thanks for all you do, Louise.🙋🏼♀️🦋🌸
What a beautiful video! Dom's struggles and awkwardness are so relatable, though. Brush control, water control, intensity of colours - I feel you, Dom. Can't wait to see what tutorials you come up with next, Louise! And how cheeky and fun is Leo
I am in awe. For a very beginner, hubby did a fantastic job. Having you give him direct instructions helped me. Watching you analyze and describe what was giving him problems and what he could do to fix these problems, was the most helpful video I have ever seen! I see this type of video, where you work along side someone, would be so helpful, so valuable. Seeing you react and correct problems is something that would be awesome. Many times we look at our results and know they aren't what we wanted but don't know why. As you talked hubby through his painting while showing us your work was one of the best learning tutorials I've seen. I was able to really 'see' what you mean when you teach. What you teach and what my hands are doing. I know the terminology but haven't put brush to paper. Im trying to make an educated decision and purchase some beginning paint that's worth the cost. I wish I could sit by your side a few times. After watching, I've felt my spirits jump. I think you seeing what was hindering him and setting him back on the correct path, even if awkwardly, was eye-opening. Thank you for this video.
What an interesting experiment. Dom did amazing but I definitely saw myself when I started in some of what he was doing. Brush control tutorials would be helpful for sure! Thanks!
Hi Louise, first I want to say that Dom did very well for his first attempt at painting with watercolour. He has the very best teacher to learn and how lucky he is to have Louise. The technique on how to hold the brush is amazing and so Important. I really look forward to your tutorial on that technique. Thank you Louise. ❤Helene
This was one of my favorite videos of yours! Dom looked more like a pro than I did when I first stared. I could always draw because I liked to draw but to transfer the information needed into color was much harder than I imagined. Controlling the brush and the color adds so much more than just drawing a realistic image.(in my experience) This was great to watch!
The content of brush control is great, I agree with everyone. As important though, is the recording of audio and video... it's so helpful to see the side by side, the quiet explanations without too many words to muddy the meaning. Your video and audio work are outstanding. And so is your teaching!
This Is So COOL! it actually made me want to try birds (I've been reluctant).. I thought, hey if Dom can do it, so can I 😂😂😂 I think his bird is fantastic btw no caveats needed. I love that he didn't overwork it (probably due to having a personal tutor😉) well done.
I think Dom did brilliantly. I’ve been teaching my 8 year old grandson how to paint and he’s doing really well but I’m learning through teaching him too!
It's interesting watching that first awkwardness holding a brush. The best solution for me has been to care way less, which is counter intuitive, and to use the longest brush possible standing as far back as possible.
For a beginner, his painting is great! Tell Dom, "good work!" A lot of those things come with practice. I find that doing several variations of the same thing right in a row helps me to perfect the techniques. (if that makes sense)
A fascinating exercise and Dom did a great job. I does show though that an accurate original drawing goes a long way to a very good finished result ... that and having an excellent teacher sitting a long side of you 😅. Thank you for posting.
Excellent video! I think he kept his hand off the paper because he didn't want to touch what he had already painted, like it would smear or somehow get messed up. You both did very well! Thanks!
What a wonderful job Dom has done and how very instructive this tutorial is on how to angle the brush and use the arm as leverage to steady the hand. Thank you both for generously sharing this learning process. I remember how after doing lots of carpentry and chopping up firewood over some months how holding a pen or pencil or little paint brush felt extremely awkward. It took a while for the fine motor skills to come back on line, because the arm and hand were so used to doing heavier stuff. It can be a fairly frustrating experience that takes a whole lot of patience with oneself. Kudos to Dom for doing such fine work so early in the process, and to you for showing such understanding and patience. You both demonstrate a winning working relationship that is a great example for all of us.
off topic- the thumbnail is hilarious. i giant red, accusatory arrow pointing at him. it’s perfect for the video subject, but i’m silly and find the most mundane things amusing 🥰
As a leftie, I've been accused of holding my hand in strange positions all my life!! Haha! He did so well, though! This was a great experiment and seems like it was very helpful to you both! Thanks for sharing!!
Oh wow! I did not expect this video turning into a brush control video, but it is excellent observation. Holding your brush, like holding any tools for creative or other purposes is a very important thing to learn! I think Dom did a superb job! His wren looks fantastic, I couldn’t have done it better as a beginner myself. You are a great teacher, Louise and it’s great you have now seen things you wouldn’t think of yourself as a professional. We can all learn so much from you!
I saw the conversation with Dom on Patrion about him doing one of your tutorials and wondered what he would come up with. His attempt worked out really well!! (He had the best teacher, but I think he's also willing to learn what helps a lot.) Such a wonderful explanation for us to learn about using our brushes. Thank you both, Louise and Dom!
I fell in love with your teaching of watercolor a long time ago. Dom did a wonderful job for his first time! I also want to tell you how much I love your hair style. It's beautiful!!❤️
I think Dom did a fantastic job of painting his first watercolour, well done Dom! Thank you Louise for being such an amazing teacher and sharing all your tips with us, you are so appreciated ❤
Loved this video! Perfect timing too with me teaching my beginner class. I loved everything you had to say and will help me help my students too! I direct them to you all the time! Dom did a great job for first time painting! I have to admit I felt his awkwardness with holding the brush right through the screen! It made me remember how I need to remember how that feels as brushes are an extension of my hand after many years of playing. I encourage my students to play with their brushes to see what they can do as brush skills equally important for success and confidence. I look forward to your brush skills videos too! Thank you for pointing out that Dom did NOT anchor his hand…. Instinctive for me… going to make sure I teach that! You are a blessing. Love your sharing, love the cat! And love the hair….had to say it 😂😂.
Dom did such a good job! I can’t believe he has never painted before. Obviously, I can see that he’s more of a beginner, but he really surprised me. I feel as though I’ve gotten a lot better at painting, but holding my brush securely and comfortably is still challenging. I have some arthritis in my hands, and I tend to grip my brush too tightly, which makes it worse. When I watch how confidently you use your brush, I keep wondering what I can do to make it easier for me.
Both are beautiful , great job Dom ! Way to go Louise , you’re a wonderful teacher ! I also follow you on Skillshare , you’ve taught me so much , thank you !!!
Thank you for the great video Louise! I think it’s important to have people who have no experience test out instructions. No matter what the subject. When you know enough to teach it, a lot of things are so natural we don’t even think about them. The brush control and stiffness are things that I’ve struggled with. I feel like I just can’t do it with the flow that the instructor is demonstrating. And then I figure I’m just not good at it and give up.
This was a great idea and I shared it with a few friends that have just started out. I am sure they will find it reassuring. Personally, I learned that the end of a stroke ends in a blob. How have I never noticed that before ?! Thank you for pointing it out.
Louise, this was a great tutorial, Dom's hand and your advice together were great learning for me, I could see myself in Doms hand. This was a good combination fir a video. Thank you.
Really interesting! Thanks to Dom for his willingness to try and on camera, and to kitten for all-purpose general helpfulness! Well done to both! Looking forward to vids on brush control when you get there!
This was interesting to watch.. I love water color but unfortunately I watch from the side. I loved how your brush strokes seem effortless and graceful while I am more like Dom and its a bit awkward. I have been able to paint a few cute paintings but honestly I would love to see more of these side by sides with your narration of gentle direction. I think this instruction was invaluable and I really hope you do more with Dom or another beginner water color artist.
Dom did a really good job for a beginner! WOW! I also think this highlights your skills for teaching watercolor painting and shows how important it is to find a good watercolor teacher to learn from.
Dom is a stellar student and clearly adores you or wouldn’t have put himself through the lesson with an expert. Yes, pages of exercises in a watercolor sketchbook, suggested by my mentor, helped me to gain more brush confidence right after I started, last year. It was a very valuable grounding with my brushes.
I so enjoyed watching this and think he did great. He gave what you do a try , so …now I’d like to see a video with him teaching you what he does every day. Are you up to that?
Well done Dom! I think your first painting is a huge success. I'm sure there are transferable skills having been a builder. Hope you enjoyed doing the painting Dom. Great idea Louise to do this video.
Funny I came across this, I’m trying to get my husband to try watercolor painting. He’s not a painter at all, so I’m not holding my breath that he’ll give it a go. BRAVO DOM! You did a really good Job!

I’m excited to see your tutorials on brush control. I can really use that.
Thanks, interested in your courses, as well as landscapes !🤗
@@LouiseDeMasi So wish I could but can’t use that Skillshare app 🫤 but you paint so beautifully!
This was a fantastic idea. Please let Dom know how very much his painting has inspired me. His first painting is awesome! Congratulations 🎊
Both birds are beautiful. You're a great teacher. Your husband has hidden talents. I hope you both had fun doing this challenging first project. I'm looking forward to the brush control video. 😊

Omg brush holding. Wow. I needed to see the difference and as a beginner I couldn’t have done as well as Dom. Thank both of you

This makes me think that perhaps you and Dom can do more videos together, Louise. As you instruct, he paints and you correct, we all stand to learn!
Your hair looks so pretty.
He did so well. What an interesting experiment.
Totally unrelated but I love your hair ❤
Amazing demo...excellent results...well done DOM....welcome to enchanting world of art...Enjoy yourself
He did an amazing job!
Yay, Dom! I would love to know what he thought of the process and the painting.
Move over Louise! He'll be hooked before he knows:) great job Dom!
This one is great !when a spouse gets the chance to see what the other half is putting their time and effort in is awesome
Leo is good!🐾
Wow your husband is very talented. 👏👏👏
Wow great job Dom. Great teacher. Excellent demo.
Boy, he did a lot better than I would.😊
Interesting. I have been so fascinated with Louise's brush strokes. This video reinforces that.
Dom, did a fantastic job for a first time beginner!
What an interesting experiment. Dom did amazing but I definitely saw myself when I started in some of what he was doing. Brush control tutorials would be helpful for sure! Thanks!
I found the comments on brush control very helpful.
I loved your hairstyle!

So interesting about the importance of anchoring your hand on the paper. My grandchildren find this most challenging (ages 4 to 9).
What a good sport Dom is! Great husband!!
Dom, you did a fabulous job for your first watercolor. Wow! Good job! It's much better than my first painting.
Lol...LEO, so adorable!! I wouldn't be able to not notice him, his tactical skills of that paper square were awesome 😂😂❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you Louise and Dom 🙏🎨👍 Great teaching video.
great work Dom!. lovely painting and great teaching as always Louise

The cat is adorable and just wants to be involved.😊
Excellent for the first time! I’m impressed!
I had to smile as I watched Dom repeat the many "variations" I used at times during my journey.

Great to see how another beginner goes about following your instructions. Lovely to see and to learn from how he goes about his first paintings.
He did so well because of the help and inspiration from that cute cat.
Yeah Dom! He really did well and Louise you are an excellant teachrr!
I think Dom did brilliantly! What a great idea to get Dom to do a painting too. I learned a lot from this process.

Well done Dom and great job Louise - your hair looks fabulous too!! Leo is too darn cute - I imaging he would be a really great assistant
I need brush stroke control. This was very helpful. Grounding my hand is good skill for me. Great video…..

Dom did very well 😊

Congrats to both of you! Have a great weekend! Regards from Spain
How much fun this would be to have a husband painting along with you! Thank you for sharing this.
Really interesting! Thanks to Dom for his willingness to try and on camera, and to kitten for all-purpose general helpfulness! Well done to both! Looking forward to vids on brush control when you get there!
This was great! Dom's a sport. Great job Dom! Louise, I look forward to all your tutorials. Thank you so much.

Honestly, very well done as a beginner!
I think he did so well. This was one of the most helpful tutorials I’ve seen. Thankyou 😊
Great job Dom!!!👏🏼
Dom did a really good job for a beginner! WOW! I also think this highlights your skills for teaching watercolor painting and shows how important it is to find a good watercolor teacher to learn from.
Dom is a stellar student and clearly adores you or wouldn’t have put himself through the lesson with an expert.
Yes, pages of exercises in a watercolor sketchbook, suggested by my mentor, helped me to gain more brush confidence right after I started, last year. It was a very valuable grounding with my brushes.
😂 bloopers!
Yes, brush control.
Great video Louise, it also highlights the fact that when we are learning online there is no feedback on our ‘bad habits’. ❤
I so enjoyed watching this and think he did great. He gave what you do a try , so …now I’d like to see a video with him teaching you what he does every day.
Are you up to that?
Well done, Dom!!! You have the best teacher.
They are both really beautiful. He did such a great job (for a newbie!) Well done!
I look forward to the brush technique tutorials!
His painting is lovely.
Its better than I can do after 3 years of trying.
