    I’ve got a ZT 0770 , used it as an everyday carry for about a year cutting all kinds of stuff, cardboard, rope, ETC.. I pulled out my sharpmaker for the first time and while I didn’t think I would be that lucky I decided just to try 20 passes with the white stones, that thing went from pretty dull to easily cutting my arm hair and phonebook paper.

    Need to adjust the camera, your filming at the top hard to see all we see is the stones on down back the zoom or move it up. Other then that nice video

    You roll your blade tip off the edge really hard. That’s going to ruin your tip over time. Also, blade with large belly like that really need to be rolled away from the stone as you go around or you’ll end up with a thickened blade tip and shortened blade.

    To clean your stones, it sounds like you're saying "Samplex." what is the correct spelling? Thank you.....

    Thanks for the video I have a blur and just bought it and the sharpmaker I got the uf stone's separate but not the diamond ones should I use the 30 degree like u or use just the 40? Also being it has that slight recurve should I use the flat part of the stones and the edge part or only one or the other??? I'm a complete novice when it comes to sharpening. Also not sure if it matters but my blur is the s30v veraion.

      use the corners, you can use the flats but it takes a different technique, if your a beginner, use the corners, sv30 is a harder steel, it may just take longer to get a good edge

    Thanks for the video. Have you found that a particular grit of Sandflex is better for the cleaning job than others? I notice they sell fine, medium and coarse.

      thanks. I'll get one for cleaning. It would probably work better than an old toothbrush with the soapy water. @@j.brianmoses18

    What does the WD 40 do for the stop? can i put that on top of a compound that is already on the strop?

    You are slamming the tip of the knife edge down on the table after every stroke? How are you going to sharpen the tip doing that?

  • @milescook670
    @milescook670 4 роки тому

    Why aren’t you using the flat edge at the beginning? Do you use the triangle tip just to repair the edge before sharpening?

    • @egger46
      @egger46 2 роки тому

      There's a video manual for the sharpener and it says to begin with the pointed edge then move to the flat side. Starting with the gray coarse stones and working your way up to the fine white ones.

    • @henkdaaps7562
      @henkdaaps7562 2 роки тому

      I guess the reason for using the triangle tip is to smoothen out damaged parts of the edge but otherwise I don’t think I would use the tip. Only the flat sides for V edges and the tip only for serrated knives.

      I use a bristle brush works better getting down in the stone to remove steel out of it with soppy-water! Would t sandflex hurt the grit of the stone as well?

    so the secret to getting a mirror polish with a sharpmaker is to use a strop

    • @j.brianmoses18
      @j.brianmoses18  4 роки тому

      With the stones available that is the only way to get fine enough

    • @henkdaaps7562

      The way for mirror polished edges is usually by stropping it (with different compounds)

    At 6:00 your left stone was not seated right. It was a lot more vertical than your right.

      Once you have the stones, the plastic part is the cheapest to replace. The old one can be used to store your extra stones, or set up both with different angles. It packs nice, too!

    • @tomweeks3950
      @tomweeks3950 5 років тому

      @@hans-jurgenwiegand7465 I think part of the problem with the sharpmaker base is that the diamond rods are not a great fit for the holes and after a while it slightly distorts the the holes and makes the regular stones not sit as secure. Have you found a place to buy just a spare base, I would really like to have one. Thanks

      Tom Weeks I have a Hapstone M2 sharpening , & a Wicked Edge Go system, & Warner Stones, to 8000 Grit, & they are all great 👍🏻! The Spiderco is the handiest, but I use the system that I have for the hardness. Whatever stones match the steel, works just fine. All of my knives cut paper just fine, now. I’m on blood thinner, & they are Wicked enough. Wife sliced her finger in the sink, so that’s plenty sharp for me. If my Spiderco wears out, I’ll get another one. Like them all the same, my knives cut!
