All good advice, but probably the most important one is casting where your boater isn't. There's almost always good casts that they miss and you just need to be ready for them. The communication tip is up there too. I've had boaters completely ignore a busting fish and with their permission casted at it and caught it. Of course, I mainly fish club tournaments where co's and boater fish for the same money.
I love this channel. I started co angling 3 summers ago in a regional midwest bass club. Our big tournament is St Clair and I won it last summer with a 2 day 38lb bag. I've learned so much and these quality u tube channels are a huge part of that learning curve. Urs is in my top 3. More co angler/back boat tips please. Amateurs/beginners are ur demographic. Seth Fieder isn't watching ur jig pitching tips...lol. You skip a jig to a magdraft as pretty as anyone I've seen. I can skip a spinning reel pretty well but can't figure out the baitcast skip. Can you cover how you set up your reel for skipping? Do u offer any fish with Ty opportunities? I'll wear my Finn hoody and Bass hat. Lastly when I joined the club as a hobby, I'm 53, I didn't forsee dropping a minimum of 20k in gear and I got no boat. I dropped 250 today at bass pro and we're frozen out here just south of Chicago. Great topic, great channel. Now I want to fish with you. Randy Blaukat does it. Cmon bud. Ur not far!

Great video for the coal anglers out here. I've been a co angler for many years. Most boaters I have gotten are really good and I've learned a lot. The last tournament I fish my boater was fishing for betting fish behind docks. He missed one about four times and he turned to go fish behind another dock. I asked if it was okay if I threw in there. And you're right I threw something completely different , it ended up to be a three and a half pound small mouth. But I did ask first and he was perfectly fine and happy that I caught that fish. From the get-go he told me what he was going to do and there was no surprises. I just had to be prepared to jump on the ones that he missed but I would always ask

You have to run your line through the eye of the hook from the side that the point is on. If you start it through the back side of the eye it will not have the cam action
Communication is key, just like the cliff crochet example, there is no way im not casting at a section of docks that i can reach on my side of the boat because the boater “may” go there. How do i know if he is even gonna fish that side, he may have only caught them on one side of the dock and may never touch the other side then i just wasted a golden opportunity. I cant read his mind, im just asking and then im casting.. As long as its open communication we can both have a great day on the water. When you try to be sneaky thats when u run into problems. SN: i have won a bfl from back of the boat and took 4th place in a super so im not pulling my comments out of thin air. Communicate early in the day and address things when they come up, dont wait get pissed and blowup, just handle your business, boater and coangler. Im also down to be a practice partner if u doin james river bass open, or on the bay im signed up and confirmed for both.
Honestly sometimes those are the best guys to fish behind because they are going to leave a lot open. Pay attention to where he is throwing and try to hit on those pieces of cover he may be skipping or fishing by too fast

Can I ask how being a coangler works that casting ahead of them is disrespectful? It seems like it would just be more efficient to maximize fishing time rather than "eh I'll leave it for him and fish somewhere we're less confident in" do fish caught by you count less? Or is it literally just an ego thing?
A co angler competes against the other co anglers in other boats. As a co angler you are not competing against your boater but you are also not sharing the fish you catch either. Definitely makes for a unique time fishing.
I disagree with you on not taking advantage of boat position to fish a spot first. In the graphic you showed, the boater would have lots of open water to fish in front of the boat, but would be blocking the co-angler's casting angles a large portion of the time by being too close to the dock to allow casting. In essence, the boater is back boating the Co. In a case like that, the Co needs to take advantage of casting where he can, when he can, as long as he stays aligned with the rear end of the boat and not casting forward.
I get your stance on being back boated...being back boated is not right and there are definitely "boaters" who do this and it is disrespectful to their CO. However, if the CO knows that their boater is going to be fishing that dock next, then the CO trying to get a cast first at the dock is disrespectful IMO. Being a CO I had plenty of opportunities to make those types of casts, even when my boater was in the bottom of the boat rigging a rod, yet I would never take that cast. IMO if he spent that kind of money and took the time to find those fish, he should get the first crack at them. Thats also just the way I was taught

Most of the time I am in the back, and watch him and put the lure in different spots , and have in times cot more than he did.
